Great Scott!@ajc9988
every time i read a ryzen review article i was actually thinking about your predictions in terms of AMD performance, and in the end you were right!exciting times in cpu land

I don't know if you read my predictions of 7nm and beyond... but tomorrow should give a clearer timeline for time to 7nm for AMD, the 20% jump in IPC to catch up to Skylake-X (or give clearer predictive abilities after computex on where things will be with that and CL-X relative to Ryzen 2 and 3), etc. Give me a couple months and I can give a good prediction through 2019...
-
So nowadays I've been finding that you people and your fancy finfet Pascal cards beat my poor 980 in every way, except one....
Power draw!
Try to beat 283W. I bet you can't! Your Pascal cores are too small and your voltages too low!Ashtrix, Johnksss, CaerCadarn and 8 others like this. -
I think i have managed 297W, but that was super duper while back. So cant track that screenshot down
-
Same here. But it would be nice seeing Pascal mobile up there
Or +250-260w

Firstly thanks for the assistance people, and congrats on the letters after your name Jaybee83!
"Posted earlier about some crazy throttling on a p750dm-g when both the CPU & GPU are loaded. Thanks to a magical person, from a magical land the bios on this unit has magicly unlocked (with the EC also magically updated). Tis so nice having more control!
Ironically switching on intel speedshift via Throttlestop mitigates the worst of the cpu throttling (worst being down to a 10x multiplier with Heaven running with 0 additional load on the cpu) - anyone have any idea why this would be the case as it doesn't make a lot of sense to me..? @ 4.5k (adaptive & +55 offset) with TS 1024mb bench running + Heaven it will operate in the 4.1 - 4.3 range"
Hopefully all useful properties & values are as below
p75xxDM-g
Bios version: 1.05.09pm v1.3
EC version: 1.05.03pm
CPU I5-6600k
GPU: 880m
Clock: 4.5
Cache ratio: 39
voltage type: adaptive
Core Offset: +56
Cache offset: 0
SA offset: 0
Power limits: 99999/99999
PP0 current limit (set in TS): 1023
PSYS Pmax current 5000
SA Current: 5000
Core/IA Current: 5000
Ring current: 5000
voltage under load (cinebench): 1.25xx
Cstates: off (on/off makes no difference)
RSR: off
No throttle reasons in TS
No throttle reasons in HW
No Throttle reasons in XTU (got desperate and installed it..)jaybee83 likes this. -
whats the behaviour like during cpu&gpu load? do some logging with hwinfo64 and post screenshots here.

Looks like a software/OS induced throttle or just regular speed-step behavior during lower loads. Make all settings in BIOS and use TS only to fix the Turbo Multi to 4.5Ghz if you want the clocks to be consistent.Last edited: May 16, 2017tranquil911 likes this.

just to be sure: are you running high performance profile in windows and control center?tranquil911 likes this.

Use for monitoring only throttlestop. I has problem with HWinfo, when i used it my cpu worked to 3.5 ghz
-
that is very strange, ive never heard of such behavior before with HWInfo...
-
Please report your problem in the Hwinfo forum Make a post.
Make sure you can tell about what's wrong + post your Laptop hardware and brand. Thanks
I have seen Hwinfo had a problematic version, I think it was in 2014(used with RTSS with my AW17 and it crashed my machine). But was fixed right after. But not common as you said.jaybee83 likes this. -

Flipping awesome !
I need to stop trying to validate at 5.5 and just stick to a 5.4 validation

So, AMD mentioned that it has plans for a 14nm+ process, a 7nm process for Zen 2, then a 7nm+ process for Zen 3 by 2020 on their roadmap. GloFo is taking customer designs for 7nm chips in the second half of this year, risk production starts first half of 2018.
They are predicting Intel levels of IPC growth of 5-15% improvement.
My prediction: When they said 20% for Zen+, they were meaning the 14nm+ design. The 14nm+ process is what is planned for first half through Q3 of 2018. This will erase all gap between Skylake (and possibly Kaby) and Ryzen's successor if they meet or beat the 20% promise for Zen+. Intel counter's with CL and says we are so great, but the gap is less than Ryzen and Kaby or TR and SL-X. Then comes the move in Q4 2018 to 1H 2019 to 7nm Zen (could be earlier by a couple quarters, but I'm not over rushing them nor Intel). Intel counter's with Icelake at 10nm+ with FIVR. Doesn't matter because with the IPC and core count AMD overtakes the field. Intel still has better logic density at the 10nm node and is at 10nm+ process at this point, which still does not outperform coffeelake, but is more dense because smaller node. So, 2020, you square off Tiger, the 10nm++ beast against the 7nm+ Zen 3 beast. Seriously, need I say more. This confirms my prior prediction (most likely). Enjoy!

Hence why I said Coffee is a good sit and wait buy this fall for mainstream!!!Ashtrix, CaerCadarn, jaybee83 and 1 other person like this. -
5.5 would be da bomb. @Prema predicted it could/would happen on KBL, but who's gonna do it...? cmon john, dont let us down! @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER
@ajc9988 two points im currently amazed about: first being the sudden and very apparent pressure intel is under after the release of zen, speeding up release cycles and bumping specs on upcomings cpus. and second, the return for my money invested in this machine: this is currently my third(!) brand new machine ive received inside warranty at no extra cost to my original P751ZM purchase *rofl*. and i still have over 20 months warranty left, mind you...

Yeah if someone can do it first, it's him
I have been eyeing 5.5 more than 5.4 just to beat him for once.CaerCadarn, Papusan and jaybee83 like this. -

yeah, its like you fiddle and tweak around for weeks and months in order to beat him, then he goes like: oh! gimme a sec...bam, 5.6 ghz *lol* now go play, kids, and let the grown-ups do their thing, nkay?
have u even seen 5.5 on your screen yet? if so, that would already be quite a feat!

Get me that LN2 / AC only BIOS and I'll make sure I light a fire under their asses

hm, the posted screenie is way fuzzy, cant really discern anything there...but if it shows what i think it does then kudos! looks like i got my work cut out for me *lulz*
edit: ok, got it now, sweet! validating 5.4 should be a breeze for you

Fixed. For some reason I can't get the direct image links on the phone. Only the thumbnail.jaybee83 likes this.

Didn't you see bloodhawk's screenie clearly showed us proof of 7Ghz...

That's right! Benched in a vacuum chamber in John's garage.
Back on topic:
Are those Bitspower heatspreader worth the trouble? I kinda missed the final verdict...
@Mobius 1 did you get a chance to test the 'BIG BOY' FANs in your KM1, yet?Last edited: May 16, 2017 -
If removing Cclips doesn't work for you, then the bitspower IHS is worth it.TBoneSan likes this.

Then I was like
And thus the night ends with me laughing all the way until tomorrow. ( The firestrike is john's).

Desktop users get rekt by @D2 Ultima . Nicely done
Meanwhile, still scrubbing here with ~ 4600 Fire Strike with a GPU that's probably going to be outdone by a Vega iGPU from AMD later this year... Sigh.
Must... Have... Patience. Must... Wait... For... Navi. -
haha, this is nice

Some unexpected progress has been made having uninstalled CC, reset the EC, reInstalled CC and cycled through the power modes in CC... it now seems to be holding the cpu clock when the GPU is loaded.
Am i expecting too much in regards to being able to hold 4.5ghz whist both the CPU & GPU are under 100% load? I feel like a moron asking that question, as the haswell mobiles ive dealt with in the past dont seem to have any issue in that regard. My only experience with desktop cpu's for quite some time is an i5-750 which ive had at 4.2ghz since 2010
Thanks people -

Looks like the stock firmware had to be flushed out of existence...
With the mod there is no forceful limitation in place at such levels as long as temps don't exceed safety limits.Ashtrix, tranquil911, Johnksss and 3 others like this. -

I actually think that is the evidence you haven't lost your good sense yet. If it were not for Brother @Prema being able to help us, we'd all be stupid for buying overpriced cancer trashbooks.Ashtrix, Papusan, Johnksss and 1 other person like this.

And something tells me you'll build at least one new one in the coming months...

Yeah, never that. Notebooks are cool and all, but a desktop is worth far more bot points in the end. Way to many parts can be benched off of just one or two base setups. And that is what you need to gain many hard points to gain rank. Although it takes far longer to lose your laptop hardware points. There is more to all that, but you get the idea.
Maybe.... I didn't jump this time because it was only like 2 or 3 test I would have gained very minimal results in, so I just stayed with the 5960X. Debating on testing some TI's now that they are readily available, but I think I'll still wait.Papusan, Mr. Fox, ajc9988 and 1 other person like this. -
I was meaning the threadripper or SK-X, if either overclock well. BW-E was shiite, but skylake seemed to overclock well and they used the 14nm+ process that was used for Kaby to make SK-X, so the numbers on LN2 might be really nice! TR is more for heavy multithreaded benches, but we'll know better in a couple months on those...
Also, now that micron showed the 12 and 14gbps GDDR6 this year, the rumors on Volta XX80 aren't as far fetched to fight Vega, coming in August...

True, but I buy to bench, not to play games or run intensive imaging software so I'll wait and see what some of the heavy hitters think about it. Just because it looks good on paper does not mean it's good out in the wilds beyond a certain point. At least that's my line of thinking anyway. So I wait to see what my other team members have to say, then make a judgement call from there.
Side note:
For the record I'm side playing on the Xboxone, Destiny. And On the PC it's GTA5.
I need to go play with Brother @Mr. Fox on Diablo
