I don't know. Haven't played it in a super long time. Maybe not even once on the DM3. Cannot remember. I'll have to check.
Edit: @D2 Ultima I think the last time I ran it was on the Sky X9 developer unit. I made a YouTube video like this one [LINK] in February 2016. I had to re-download from it GOG earlier today. Interesting to watch, as the 200W 980 runs about half the framerate as 1080 SLI. I had the 6700K running 4.7GHz in that video as well.
I almost never play games any more. I find that I always have something else to do, and when I do have time I am generally not in the right mood for it. I usually binge game in spurts after long periods of zero activity.
You're not missing much. Witcher franchise is one you either love or hate, and I find it extremely boring. I've only played it a few times and seldom can tolerate a full hour of it. I find most RPG open world games to be like watching paint dry. I prefer the linear chaos of a FPS campaign with little or no storyline and no complicated plot to get in the way of the action.

I don't see what you are getting at? I know all about what intel have been up to. -
"It's been less than a year since [intel] introduced their new product launchphilosophy, called PAO (Process, architecture, optimization), with Kaby Lake launch. For various reasons, the PAO launch model didn't even last a year, so today we've got a new launch strategy, probably called PAOWONACTYDAMCHTAGMS (Process Architecture Optimization Wait Oh No AMD Can Really COmpete This Year Damn Add More Cores Hurry They Are Gaining Market Share)."
If this isn't funny and related to your last statement I can say nothing else -

Seems an odd result? Mine is fluctuating beteen 80-90FPS on most cases but will dip to 70-75 fps when there is rain. Note that hairworks is enabled & everything is maxed out except motion blur and gpu @ stock while cpu is running at 4.5ghz.
Can anyone verify both mine and @Mr. Fox results please.Stress Tech and Mr. Fox like this. -

To me it seems like it is a medieval version of Batman Arkham Knight... meaning poorly optimized. Both include NVIDIA CrapWorks, too.Stress Tech and cj_miranda23 like this.

Yeah the witcher series is terribly optimized; all of them.
Ubersampling in Witcher 2 is so broken that you could DSR to 4K and get double the framerate than using uber at 1080pStress Tech and Mr. Fox like this. -

For a quick reference:
Played Witcher 3 for a few minutes at 7680X1440 Nvidia Suround. Everything maxed out, but Nvidia hair-works off. I'm floating around 50FPS. I thought I get less FPS.
Still to this date though; Deus Ex: Mankind divided absolutely kills my system with 25FPS at 7680x1440 gaming. I will test Witcher 3 for a few day and give you guys the heads up soon...
Edit: Just tried everything maxed out with HairWorks on and full HairWorks AA, at 7680X1440 and I'm getting a 40FPS float when I'm outside on the balcony of the start of the game.Last edited: Oct 16, 2017 -

That's true, it good for benchmarks. But in reality, the games that are difficult to run, are games that are poorly optimised.

At least, they don't overheat if you disable Turbo Boost. Better than nothing
This is one of the newer units, and not much have changed. Soon will the refreshed models come. The $1000 usd questions... Will Dellienware continue with TRIPOD?
Probably yees, as they said the heatsink problematic was fixed long time ago. Oh'well we have to see what the refresh will bring.

Where are all the laptops from all the stores ?
I was looking for laptops right now and both laptops and GPU cards are almost gone from almost all stores in Europe. What is going on?!
You can barely find 2-3 models for 1080ti, no Acer V17 laptops, and many others that are normally around .

Still less variance than a Clevo at this time xDbloodhawk likes this. -
Dell at least once knew how to make a quality heatsink with quality fit.. so I guess there's a chance they could get it right down the road. Still it won't change the HW they offer.
More importantly I'm keen to know if Clevo have upped their game this time round.Stress Tech likes this. -

Once Dell has started with TRIPOD, it will be very difficult to change. Remember 3 legs cpu HS is the Golden standard in most of DELL's laptops nowadays. So don't hold your breath
Last good HS from Delllienware was what? 2013 ?
I think so. Or 2014. But the design was the same as 2013.

Oh yes, while I rant that I'd want to upgrade, I should share this with everybody: Do not upgrade to 8700K for gaming, 7700k and 6700k are not throttle points for any game right now!
Those two CPUs are already more than enough for most games out there!
What could be a throttle point is the GPU far more than the CPU is.cj_miranda23 and Stress Tech like this. -
False
Most is key word
You've never hunted for high FPS then xD -
The thing I don't like about this 9 game average they drew results from is they failed to disclose what the 9 games were. If they listed them there (which I didn't find) they sure as hell buried it from any consideration. It's gross negligence and deceitful not to include them. If I wanted I could pick 9 modern games to make whatever argument I wanted.
-
Absolutely true!
I only hunt for 60fps max, which all of my monitors are. You know, doing photo editing and design and all, I cannot find a monitor that has both color and fps, so I'm going with color for my work.
If you were hunting for fps, I think the CPU might play a bigger role, but then agian, you need a display to show those or for benchmarking bragging. -
Because you look for 60fps max, you won't run into a CPU bottleneck pretty much ever. There are games that benefit HIGHLY from higher fps, even if your monitor doesn't display them. Call of Duty titles are one example; they are designed to run at multiples of 125 and 333 fps ranges.
Higher FPS is less input lag too, and some servers have higher tickrates (there are some BF4 servers with 144Hz tickrate, if your game is getting less FPS then you're not taking advantage of it at all). Plus we do have 120Hz laptop panels, expecting high FPS on a gaming unit is pretty par for the course. A CPU bottleneck doesn't mean that your CPU is running at 100%; it could be at a limit you don't know is there. For example Battlefield 4 generally will never pass about 80% CPU utilization. It doesn't matter where the CPU is being used from. If you're using a CPU-based recorder and it's using up 50% of your CPU, battlefield is generally going to drop its FPS heavily, even if 120fps on battlefield only takes 40% of the processor in question; it won't want to pass 80%, so it'll use another 30% of your CPU. If you use things that force the CPU above 80% the game will just kind of flop over on itself; it won't stop working but it won't be nearly pretty. We can extrapolate this into a game like Arma 3 which barely uses a CPU at all, but still wants a powerful CPU. Adding more cores can help even that.
If you want to say that just the act of playing a game at a playable framerate doesn't need 6 cores? Sure. But then you might as well buy a dual-core i3 and call it a day. I think 4 cores is too little for a strong card like a 1070 or 1080.Georgel likes this. -
Welp
I need more cores for development.
Never tried high fps gaming before. I'd love to, but all my monitors are 60 Hz locked... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
High FPS mostly cares about core frequency though

More cores doesn’t automatically mean better performance. Just look at Ryzen
Stress Tech likes this. -
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
But it does. Look at performance increase from Ryzen 4-core (1300X/1400) to 6/8-core (1600X/1800X). -
They also used the more expensive Ryzen "X" CPU's, which are fine and all, but you can get the non-X models and OC them for the best performance - which needs to be done for the X models too - they all core OC much faster than out of the box defaults, and the non-X models do it even cheaper, knocking the Intel 8th gen out of the running for price/performance.
It's cute how they threw this in, to ward off comments like mine:
"Our follow-up coverage to this article will include overclocking numbers and for that we'll use the much cheaper Ryzen 7 1700 overclocked to 4GHz. The R5 1600 will also step in for the 1600Xand the 1500X will be replaced by the R5 1400. This is the real challenge facing Intel's Core i5-8400: for those willing to overclock, can Ryzen deliver more bang for your buck?"
I hope they really do follow through, but by then it'll be too late for all those guys that over paid for Intel single use z370 8th gen parts.
They better do the same tests, and not cherry pick 8th gen parts that tippy top OC. And, I just noticed they said they will substitute the 1400 for the 1500x, so they are taking the best competitive CPU - the 1500 - off the table - they are programming their tests to favor Intel.
Besides all of that, everyone should be waiting for the B360 (B370 too??) motherboards for even more $$$ savings. But, that won't be until Feb 2018.
All the more reason to get Ryzen / ThreadRipper now
