When I bought mine (back in 2011) they were 39.99. And still going strong after 6+ years. I'm happy!
But you can always send it back if it doesn't fit your needs.
Yes, but that is already known beforehand and also the first card out the gate. They still need to break that card down into its smaller counter parts to actually make money. That's when we see what they decide to really do.Papusan likes this. -

I don't have leafs all over the place like that. Thank God!!!
I don't need to borrow anything since I already have a shop vac that can do that and more.
And I don't think most of my customers are going to go for me doing that to their PC's.
Even though it does work.
But..... They would if I roll in like this.

no info about 8 core cpu :'( though i do want a 2080, it'll be a nice upgrade for my 2 weeks old 1070

I would have ZERO problem giving up SLI for a full shader/SMX 5120 core die. 1080's in SLI on a lower fab node with ZERO SLI worries? Sign. Me. Up.bennyg likes this. -
Sounds good, but with all the complaining about this and that every day...I'm pretty sure you would second guess your purchase.

@ole!!!
1070 isn't that bad... Check out some of my benches with it.

i got 1070 with the intention to upgrade which is why i didnt go for 1080sli, also wanted 1 graphic and 2nd gpu slot for a mod which needs help atm. yea 1070 is very powerful with everything i've thrown at it currently donno how i can make full use of it.
-
Better watch out with some of those upgrades. Half these older cards are not plug and play in the TM1. (Just and example)
-
yea hopefully clevo/nvidia doesnt screw us over with the 2080s, fingers crossed plug n play
-
Me. I take one day at a time. And since i'm more of a bencher than a gamer. A card is just a card to me. So 2080 3080 TitanV or 480M/580M/680M or whatever....All they mean to me are points.

It's why you still see some serial ports on modern motherboards. -
If the 4th fan header indicate same MB (design) for the next refresh... At least a possibility that the HS fits. But screwed one time... You never know. And will Clevo milk on same chassis a 5th time?
Edit. Maybe Intel will come first, then next Nvidia and new chassis. Many options possible. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It certainly indicates testing went into the PCB layout stage and the populated header later than that. Beyond that it does not really say anything.

+850 mhz on the RAM?
That card comes with 9 ghz memory then. Only the very newer cards came with that. That started being added on the newer 1060's but the 1070's started getting those too. Some of those cards can do +1000 mhz on the memory (Check for errors in OCCT with the card locked in 3D speeds to find your limits).
Most of us are limited to 500-700 mhz offset with the 8 ghz cards. -
This card ranges from 700 to 850 maybe 900. You only need to watch the screen to see if it's stable. And that takes all of a few seconds or so to know.
And that card is also and older model. -
Happy new year for all of you.

Wow talk about getting a special christmas gift of a fully working laptop after moisture attack!
VERY lucky. You dodged a bullet. Hope you have a happy new year! -

I think I had a great new years eve even though I was a little drunk.

Replaced everything.
I bring my tools everywhere I go, including consumables like thermal paste and such. They were in double ziploc bag so no moisture.
The Clevo was still drying in the city, went out of town to celebrate new years with family and the P71 was the only working laptop I had. -

It's not bad as far as temporary machines go

Thats nuts on a 1070. My GTX1080 is slacking... https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/24351627?
I noticed that my scores begin to drop when I go over +182 on core and past +780 on mem.
Do i have to mod my vbios or tune the curve?
Your also getting +4000 score on physics even tho I'm also running a 8700k @ 5ghz. Whats the secret? -

Most Pascal chips tend to degrade in performance rather than crash as you push them further.
Look at your average clocks during the run, what are they doing?Jumpwired likes this. -
Awesome advice. I'll fool around with drivers. I'm using the newest version of 3DMark, I read an article somewhere stating that Firestrike scores have degraded over time with updates.
How do I install an older version? I have it on steam so I might be stuck. Do you recommend Windows 7 for benching also?
I noticed the degradation first hand, I will tune the OC further. Would I get better results tuning with the curve?Vasudev likes this. -
Yes, that have in some test. Some you can get away with it.
If you can't find the older versions on steam , then you can download a demo version. Only problem is they want to run the demo first, then run your benchmark after.
Windows 7 still seems to still be better than windows 10 at most thing benching. So that might be something to consider. Gaming wise, stick to windows 10Jumpwired likes this. -

Yes, if you can get volts down slightly and still be stable performance will improve.Ashtrix, Vasudev, bennyg and 1 other person like this. -
You find new and older versions Futuremark 3DMark if you click on "show more versions"

Awesome, I will definitely try the older versions.

Did you even check if your CPU held 5GHz? You're using the P775TM1; I don't know if your chip is delidded; you might be setting 5GHz and under load it just throttles right down and you'd never know unless monitoring.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes when I talk to an average user who insists their laptop is fine it makes me sad.
At least they know to check first now, but they then said they didn't really care to get it to 3.4 all the time, which makes me sad. I wish people would push for their units to work more. But it really bugged me that the average person assumes throttling means that you get instantly bad performance in games. The icing on the cake was the clear thermal throttling in the end despite originally saying he wasn't overheating because they never check. Reminds me of the people @Prema always talks about, set it and forget it and don't notice their unit doesn't give them what they think they're getting.
On a lighter note, this stemmed from this turn of events:
Came across this
I replied with "and then D2ultima's laptop be like"
I had a good chuckle at this this morning
-
Looks like it held. Delidded but only with ICD. I will be putting some LM soon.
Was fooling around with 5.1Ghz but I couldn't get it to stop throttling.Vasudev likes this. -
Ok, now try disabling hardware monitoring (in 3DMark) and closing everything before running the benchmark
-
Or @Jumpwired could run Wprime v2.10 tests as shown in this post. Equal results means throttling.

Good Morning Fellas... (8am in Los Angeles right now)
I have been wanting to overclock my ram but I have no idea on how to even start. I have 4x16gb Gskill RIpJaws 2800 Ram Running on XMP1. I was hoping to achieve 3000Mghrz not sure if this is too much to ask or if this has been done with this type of ram.
Is there a noob guide on how to start? or any settings I could try?
Thanks ! -
I'll try doing that... thanks.
I'll run prime once I get LM between the IHS. Even Gelid would be better then ICD, its good stuff but not between the IHS.
Also interested...Vasudev likes this. -
The noob guide is to go in the bios and set it to custom then reboot.
Set voltage to something like 1.25V first
Then go back in and set the ram dividers to 100/15=3000
Then set the first two settings to match what they should be for 2800 Mhz.
Then zero out all the other settings and reboot.
If it doesn't work....
Wait a maximum of 30 minutes or a minimum of 15 minutes before doing a bios reset.
Make sure you know how to reset the bios first or this could be very painful later if you have never taken the machine apart before. -
Thanks for this noob guide! I finally reached 3000 Mhz on my P751DM2!!! +Rep!Vasudev likes this.

So I noticed... But never seen so fast mem benchmarks in Aida64... But alas only for a few minutes...
-
Next would come the fine tuning or minor adjustments to find you comfort zone.
Under no circumstances are you to run a check disk while your memory is acting like it's corrupted! Just can any checking of disk until ram is stable.Ashtrix, steberg, Vasudev and 1 other person like this. -
donno whos into storage, last i checked @tilleroftheearth @Phoenix had benched some storage with CDM so maybe it'll be good for few others out there who does care, though this probably shouldnt be in overclocking thread because we can't really be overclocking a SSD controller unless we can somehow adjust the firmware for it.. but settings in windows, bios and overclocking CPU helps the most on storage.
this is 2x 512gb PM961 in raid 0 stripe 16k, stop gap for the upcoming 980/980pro.
each one is a continuation with bits of changes to either settings/drivers within bios/OS

how are you getting such insanely high scores?
here's mine:
Also, MSI told me that the recommended SSD Stripe Size is 128K not 16K or anything else.
Reason being, SSDs write data in 64K blocks, so when you consider that it's two SSDs writing data, that's 64K x2 = 128K which is the optimal size no matter what your workflow is because of how SSDs write data.
@tilleroftheearth I know you told me in the past that 64K is the best balance between OS / data performance and 16K is better of OS snappiness but what do you think about what MSI said about the 64K block write in NVMe SSDs?D2 Ultima, Vasudev, ole!!! and 1 other person like this.
