Do they sell them via tray? Could be a fun project to replace a 6700hq with a 6820hk via bga rework station.

A new 3DMark Firestrike score for the first page @Phoenix 14.380P (290/500) OC on Gpu by Snowman's BGA KILLER.
On time for round numbers in Firestrike physics 15500
(15.510 in Firestrike physics earlier but with lower OC on GPU). Processor Throttling? No No
The BGA KILLER haven't BGA junk from Intel's new i7 2015 collection.
I liked the old 3DMark design better. Or what is your opnion about this?
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/11767167 @Mr. Fox Do you like the score?

For some odd reason Intel's original/official tray list prices are the same for 6700HQ (locked), 6820HQ (semi-open) & 6820HK (open):
6700HQ 378$
6770HQ 434$
6820HQ 378$
6820HK 378$
6870HQ 434$
6920HQ 568$
6970HQ 623$ -

The 6820 HQ and HK were priced the same from the beginning. The choice being between vPro in the HQ and of course overclocking in the HK. The 6700HQ if I recall correctly was cheaper initially. I think the tray price match happened because of the newer 6x70HQs

Hi guys tried oc'ing my gpu. so I ran rise of tomb raider benchmark tool and at stock overall score i get is 73.85 at 135 on core and 250 on memory i get 79.47 and on 135 on core and 300 on memory i only get 78.75. my question is, why am i getting lower scores on the last test when it should have resulted to a higher score based on the oc correct(unless i am wrong sorry i am a newbie at this whole oc thing)? also i tried to do 250 on core and 400 on memory and it resulted in a black screen/ hang. i had to reset my sytem. also how do i know i am consuming above 230w? i am running at 4.2 on my 6700k btw.

@Papusan
I may need to upgrade my system:

Hi @ all,
I tried to raise the core voltage of my GTX 980, as I only get +70MHz Core on stock voltage.
So I tried it with NVidia Inspector. I can change the slider, but with no effect.
The memory overclock with ease to +300MHz.
I am on stock vBIOS, as I am still waiting to get a modded vBIOS.
Is the GTX 980 voltage locked with the stock vBIOS, or am I doing something wrong?
Maybe @Papusan can enligth me!
-
The modded vBIOS isn't public yet. But with stock BIOS you should be able to get a decent OC i think.
-
Why? I think your machine is still good enough for your tasks. Aka Create magic for all us other
-----------------------------------
@firstcw I think @bloodhawk answered your question. But Gtx980 should go longer up than 70MHz on core with stock vbios. Have you tried raising only the core clock?Last edited: Apr 24, 2016 -

nope, pascal has no balls, so it looks completely normal.

I have wanted a rework station for such a long time, before even the nVidia fiasco where a lot of the BGA graphics chips had big problems with solder. Not that expensive but my pockets aren't quite deep enough unfortunately
and I agree that a good machine could be a lot of fun. There was talk of socketing GPU chips at one time long ago but I guess BGA was the best way to go.
If your looking for CPU's try searching the spec code, for instance SR2FTtgipier likes this. -
You should share more info when you first started my good friend

@Dufus Maybe post this info in the BGA threads too? Some have asked for this

@Papusan, I'll do that when you throw away that BGA 980 GPU and run with just socketed integrated graphics, hahaha.
I personally think most of the problems stem from the manufacturers rather than the devices but then seems the majority these days hail battery life above all else, you know "Hey look I can get 19 hours of battery life out of this laptop, takes 18 hours to post into the desktop but who cares about that". Well, exaggerating but you know what I mean.

That, or "Hey, look. I can hold 28-30 FPS using low graphics settings in WoW and DOTA 2 and my 'gaming ultrabook' weighs only 1 pound. Temps stay below 95°C except when I overclock. OUCH! Dang, just cut myself on the edge of the palm rest! ...mommy, where are the Band-Aids?"
-
Yeah, Haha. A lot of the discussions in BGA threads are as follows!! WHY CAN'T I GAME WITH THIS GAMING LAPTOP IN BATTERY MODE FOR LONGER TIME THAN 1-2 HOURS?
I helped you with the posting... Have already posted in the more correct thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...3-owners-lounge.770314/page-291#post-10245426
Or you could make a sticky BGA i7 / gpu repair thread?

Use 362.00 drivers and see if that helps. Newer drivers are a problem. Also, bump the voltage a bit if you haven't already. Add another +25 or +50mV. Is your AC adapter 230W? That might be borderline not enough. Should consider getting a 330W for single 980M.jpsm likes this.

Everything Fox says is correct. But buy a cheap KILL_A_watt for monitoring of power consumption... Do not forget that Core is king. Nor increase core than memory if you experience problems.
-
No! I first raised the memory to +300, than I started on the core! With +70 it is stable, but with +75 I get a driver reset doing a UniHeaven-Bench.....
What OC - values did you get out of the GTX 980? Would it be possible to set a higher voltage within the vBIOS?
THX -
I can put +300/500 on Gtx980. Remember not all Gpu will work the same. If you use prema's mod vbios you can increase the voltage with Nvidia Inspector. I have never run stock bios/vbios on my machine so I can't tell what you can do with stock Firmware. Have you tried Gpu Overclocking in CC with same results? If not try it.
Try to raise core clock first, then test. See what happens.Last edited: Apr 25, 2016 -
First I tried with CC (same result)....
can you tell me the core-voltage you use on your GTX? With load I have 1,118V (NVidia-Inspector)! -
Yes i am using a 230w psu. No plans of getting the 330 as 4.2 on my 6700k is enough atm. I am using 362.00. Will try your suggestion
-
Holy Sh*t !
These are actual GTX 980M/GTX970M dies. And so cheap!!!

Normally you get these prices only by purchasing large quantities of it.

This doesn't make sense. What Asic score have you on your 980? Use Gpu-z for reading your score. 1.118V is very low voltage with load.tgipier likes this.
-
Is he on stock 980 vbios? Might be a current/wattage throttle thing.Papusan likes this.
-
Hes probably on the vBIOS.
-
I would still purchase a Kill-A-Watt. Those are very cheap. 230w isn't enough even for the newest modern slim Aw Echobooks with Oc on gpu. They use 240w Psu.
Yeah, probably. But 1.118V is still a very low voltage for Gtx980. He have to show his graphics Asic score before we can say anything more.Last edited: Apr 25, 2016 -
OK, I am just fixing up my 2005 Clevo M570A (with M570U board) and would like to hear your opinion on which OS to use!
It has:
- Core 2 Duo T7600
- 4GB RAM (3GB addressable by OS)
- Quadro FX 2500 aka 79x0 GTX GO
No, this is not a joke!
hmscott, TomJGX, i_pk_pjers_i and 2 others like this. -
If that was a T7600G, you could put ThrottleStop to use and overclock it sky high. The T7600G was ahead of its time.

3.8+ GHz is not a joke either.

Yes, IIRC it's the G and I remember using TS to undervolt it back then. We had to set every speed-step manually...
So what OS would be best for such a system...they shipped with XP.Last edited: Apr 25, 2016hmscott and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -
depends, do you plan to game on it? if so then win 7 (or 10 if your desperate) otherwise you could use linux, that should breathe some new life into it.i_pk_pjers_i and Prema like this.

Maybe try Win7 and see how it goes. Have you older bench results with Xp you can compare with if you try Win7?Prema likes this.

You might need to hunt a bit driver wise with a more modern OS of course.

Finally caught up after reading like 40 pages...
Windows 7 64-Bit SP1 would be my first choice.
Windows 8.1 would be my second choice.
Windows 10 would be my third choice.
Windows Vista SP2 would be my fourth and last choice.
I'd go with 7, it should run fine on those specs.
