This problem is typical. If you are using ThrottleStop to control your CPU, ThrottleStop should check and set your overclock and voltages appropriately every time you resume from stand by. Send me a message if you are using TS and have any problems.

Good work @Papusan. I love seeing some good old fashioned benching.

I added a new button to TS for you so you can keep track of max power consumption. Thanks for the idea.

    Good call.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Prema EC supposed to completely stop CPU throttling due to high GPU draw? I've noticed that the CPU tends to drop in frequency when the GPUs are pulling a lot of power (150Wish each).

Just took the new GPU for a test run :
    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/11834288
With the same clocks, the last one would need about 50mV extra, and it was never able to +400Mhz on memory with anything over 125Mhz. And the temps would be over the roof, now max 70C!

Yeap. But the difference seems to be rather drastic. I dont care too much about the ASIC quality per se, but other than that the load temps have dropped drastically.

@Papusan If possible can you check what the power draw is for your card @ +175/+400 running Skydiver?

Chips can vary a lot, though some of that can be difference in temperature diode readings.

Congratulation with new GPU bro. Hope this graphics card live with good helth while you own it :D
You should be ashamed of yourself bro :D. Forcing me to a bench with a moderate OC at 175/400, Shame on you bro  :p. I hate low/moderate OC + monitoring in the background when benching

But here's Sky Diver bench for you Bro... 306W maximum power consumption from the wall. And Gpu 209w.
Will run more of Sky Diver with 2x 330W psu and higher OC when I purchased an additional 330W.

Hehe sowwie! But thanks a bunch! My draw from the wall seems to be around 305W as well.
Gonna bench more next week with a 4.9Ghz on the CPU. Lets see how far this GPU can go.

So I've worked out my stable 980m overclock which is +174Mhz for clock and +345Mhz for memory at stock voltage (1.062v).
The weird part is that as soon as I try and increase the voltage to attempt a higher clock, Fire Strike would just black screen after a few minutes into it and laptop would reset.
I can't even get the card to do +174Mhz with +50mV increase.. yet it's fine and stable at +174 at stock voltage.

It seems this will be the highest that the card can go, which I'm not too unhappy about, however I would like to push it further by raising the voltage. Any ideas?

Laptop is a p750dm-g with vBios.

Can you reset your OC on processor to(default clock)and try Firestrike again with increased voltage and same or higher OC on graphics ?

Hi ive been experiencing frequent hangs or freezes when i play dota2. maybe 8x already this week. i am running at 4.2ghz on my cpu and no oc on my gpu. my temps are peaking 86c atmost on my cpu and 70c on my gpu. its possible that it was the game but i experienced it too 3 days ago when playing tomb raider. any idea why this happening? or how do i go about this?

Once it's flashed it's gone, you would need to contact your reseller or find a stock file online. It's more a matter of being prepared in the event of something going wrong, especially with firmware it makes a lot of sense.

I doubt it would be vBIOS related, in NVCPL, for DOTA2 under 3d settings, make sure that the performance mode is set to prefer maximum performance.
Also try verifying the integrity of the game cache, and if that doesn't help, backup your configs and reinstall it.

    I doubt it, my 6700k and 980 200W , draw about 305-310W running at 4.5Ghz and +175/+400.
And i know for a fact that DOTA2 does not use the GPU more than 50-60% when maxed out.

Did you also change the memory settings as shown in the video? Those are very specific to his memory modules and will most likely not work for others.
If not, then try running the games with only 1 module in the system. Then swap them and do a same run.

I have a feeling its because of the overclock settings.

It's worth checking if your VRMs are making flush contact with the heatsink if a minor change in voltage is causing issues.

My bios looks nothing like that :\
I bought the laptop from metabox.com.au (re-seller in Australia) and it looks like they've taken all the settings out. Is there a bios version I can flash to have those settings re-appear?

    http://imgur.com/a/8ycV1

Also, thanks Phoenix for the stock vbios file, I didn't backup mine either..
