btw, I looooove this D900F!!
-
-
yes, i seen benchtech on there as well. you guys seem to be doing alright
i knew you wold Q56! -
WOw Mutant, benchTek Uk is #5 ranked team. We're #48 over at evga....but movin' up!
It's funny that my 9280 gets a better pcmark than my desktop water cooled i7 rig with water cooled quad gtx295's...must be the ssd's. -
nope....it's all in what you know...
and some of these test do better with one card than two. -
Yea, I know....and I don't know jack with pcmark...I hate that benchmark!
-
i cant even run that one..i dont own it...yet
-
so does anyone know where is the S/PDIF Digital audio output is and how to make it work?
thx -
do you see a red light in any of the 4 audio ports?
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
BenchTec UK are THE guys, great helping find my LN2
Just waiting on my 4.5Kg LN2 CPU pot and Single Stage Phase unit
Cant wait, this 980-X is gonna get the crap beat out of it -
get ta' beatin'
lol -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Haha, SS will be here next friday... no sleep will be had
-
AHHHH...mutant, you get that ES to work with the D900F yet? Forgot you had one of those.
And what are you going to bench it on w/ your SS (mobo/vid card)? -
nice. we'll be waiting to see your findings.
-
no none of four port emit red light at all, does this has to do w/ bios or fn key?
btw the headphone and mic port work, so i dont think it is internal connector problem?
so the s/pdif out is suppose to be the first one on the left or second on from them left?
also in my realtek driver it has only two output port which is speakers and digital out (i dunno the digital is HDMI or s/pdif)
thx in advance -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
I havent had a chance to get it to work in the D900F yet, no time to install an OS as i was finally finishing my DT last weekend,
My SS will be here next friday so ill be benching it with the SS + EVGA E760, Corsair Dominator GT 2000MHz CL7, 3x 8800Ultras and ofc the 980-X @ about 5.5GHz
God he;lp this CPU when i get LN2 and my pot
As for in the D900F ill have to have it running @ stock clocks unless Gophn would be good enough to give me his modded copy of E-leet to allow proper OCing then itll just trounce everything and anything -
all the over clocking in the world and it wont beat dual gtx280m's....lol
but then...you already knew that...lol
(speculation of course) -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
I do have a pair of GTX 280's + a GTX 260 for physx
I just like the look of the Ultras, the nostalgia, legendary cards -
im not messing with you and your ln2 port, buddy...im just chilling with my chiller, but i do need to get around to testing my dice pot..see what it can do, but have been a bit lazy on the mb prep work..hehe -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Ahhh got it now
EPIC FAIL
You use a water chiller? What temps do you do?
I hate insulation... takes so long for just a few suicide CPU-Z runs even
Hopefully when the SS arrives itll be a lot easier to OC without the need for crazy insulation,
I really must get to benching... My HWBot profile is bare as hell >.<
9Points lol -
right now, my chiller is running at 3C right now. cpu under load is about 60C benching 3dmark06 and vantage right now. 4.6 to 4.7 ghz. idle about 23 to 30 on all 4 cores
running a single 5970 and a bunch of other little cards...7300le/x1950 pro/6200tc/9800m gt
trying to get some ore to bench. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
ATM im running a standard WCing loop, Iwaki RD-30 > Swiftec Apogee XT > PA120.3 > EK400Res > Iwaki RD-30
But my Idle temps are around 26*C to 36*C @ 4GHz
Havent load tested yet but i will do soon, was bleeding the loop last weekend so hopefully with no air in the loop ill get lower temps -
nice...
i just have the chiller/res/2 pumps/swiftech water block.
took my nb/sb wb off
sold my 2 gtx295's and water blocks
debating on get a water block for the 5970 though. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Man thats a awesome sounding rig you got going there,
Im still waiting on my NB/SB Block to arrive (Its been out of stock for 2 months) aparrently EK cant keep up, im debating whether to sell my 3x 8800Ultras + 1x GPU block make maybe £350-£400 and then save up for Fermi SLI
Id love a 295, those things kick my 2xUltras asses >.<
Id deff go WCing for the GPU if your serious about sustaining an overclock... or making it look nice -
So you finally sold your other 295, John. I would have held on to it for future benching with future cpus. It is quite expensive though, and will be loosing value big time this year, but it is the dual pcb version, so hopefully you got top dollar!
Mutant I need 43 more points in 3dm06 to beat your 280m score. I don't know if I can without spending a whole lot more time fiddling with clocks/cooling/voltage...we'll see. Can't wait to see your 980x results! -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Ahhh not a hope man
Haha, Are you the one that stole one of my ribbons on HWBot!
I went crazy clocks altogether for that bench, something like 660/1150/1650
Pure suicide
No Vmods all i did was the good old Fn+1 keystroke
Ill be installing XP as well today so ill get even higher
980X is being massacred in my DT right now WPrime32 in <4s here i come! -
I probably was the one who stole it, as I think I'm the only one benching in that category now, LOL!
XP should get you higher, that's the way it's always been, however with the later drivers I've been experiencing Win 7 to be better with single card runs (desktop driver 191.07). It'll be interesting what you find with XP since you are using the 195.62. -
Anyone have a laptop case recommendation that will fit this monster and leave lots of room for ac adapter, and other accessories?
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Definatly Q56, I got a Black AlienArmor case for my XPS m1730, fits this perfect now that i upgraded
Theyre made by Matias if you dont wanna pay the extra for the Alienware Design on the side you can get it here:
http://www.matias.ca/laptoparmor/la1417b/index.php
Shop around you can get em pretty cheap
EDIT:
Just saw you wanted something to carry the PSU too...
Id say go for a Targus backpack, cant go wrong there
Ill install XP now after i do a 3DM01 suicide run with 2x280s + 260
Hopefully the x64 version iv got is with SP2/3 if not ill need to DL em
In the way of service packs what is considered the most lightweight for XP?
Im assuming SP2 as i dont think SP3 did much really?
Im going to use MinXP (I thinkthats what it is) to cut alll the crap out of XP so its just running bare... -
You'll have an easier time I think if you just DL the sp3 pack, or you might have 90+ updates you'll have to suffer through to get up to sp2. I'm not even sure win update will do an upgrade to sp2 anymore, it may be the sp3 pack only...i forget. Or just do what I do to save time....turn auto updates off and start benching....you don't need that crap if it's just a bench os.
Just save your result to hdd along with a screenie, and submit them on another computer if you don't feel comfortable going on the internet with bare XP. -
Mutant, the specs for that armor case says max laptop 16.25” x 12” x 1.75”. So even though the 9280 is 2.36" thick, this case will work?
Edit; Nevermind, I was looking at the Slim model
edit again: no I think it does say 1.75"? -
Mutant, I was right...windows update will install sp3 off a fresh xp install (67mb). Pretty easy...I just tested it on a fresh install I did a few weeks ago
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Cool man, i got XP x64 and nlite so im gonna strip all the crap out
SP3 is on the disk too,
It wont be on the net though, i bench with it disconnected them upload via my laptop
Yep i have that case and it DEFINATLY fits, well i have the alienware one but AFAIK its the same -
go get'em Q56!
you know they already got us by a zillion points already....lol -
You told me every point counts, remember?
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
I feel like such a n00b lol, 9.6pts >.<
-
we are slowly catching up on them zillion points...0.1 to 2.0 points at a time....lol
damn, i need to count how many points i have for mobiles... -
Don't feel bad Mutant, it takes time....a lot of time! John and I have been at it since this past summer. He kind of got me into it when we were just focused on vantage runs exclusively over on the evga site.
Then we started getting more serious about it back around November, so it's been 3-4 months of really benching hard on hwbot. I don't sleep much.....
Sounds like you have some good hardware, so just bench every benchmark for cpu/gpu. You have tri-sli so you can bench single/sli/tri-sli. I know you have at least a 975 & 980x cpu's, so bench all the cpu benches with them. Old hardware works good too, as there are more submissions and therefore more point opportunity. -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Ah cool dude
I got plenty of GPU configs to run plus 1x EVGA E670 + 1x EVGA E759 mobo, an in the way of CPUs i got 920 C0, 975 + 989-X
Im really looking for a solid 775 mobo I found a Striker II Extreme on eBay, but i have an EVGA 790i Ultra here, so pondering whether to use the 790i or go ahead and buy the Striker II -
790i should work great! TBO, I wouldn't waste the $ on the strikerII. Stryker II's are a little temper-mental too. Don't get me wrong, Asus is great..I have an x38 asus and it oc's as good as my 780i. But, you already have the 790i and they're comparable. Spend the $ on a vid card FTW!!!

Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Cool man, bloody XP x86 hates me, just installed, using 60MB of RAM and i tried to run WPrime32M on the Gulftown and im getting times ~2s slower than in vista! WTH?
-
how bout other cpu tests? wprime wouldn't work well for me either in XP...like 40 sec 32m runs on quad cores....I never could figure that out.
Try win 7...it should be better than vista too.
See what I mean....it all takes time, but we love it! -
Hello you guys. I am thinking of buying the new Sager N8120 with the two gtx285's. I have never owened a Sager before. I am actually a previous Alienware owner but there where too many problems with the damn things so I shipped mine back to Dell for a refund.
Are there any reliability issues with Sager?? How about their screens? they do not actually say anything in the webpage except from the resolution. Anyone ever experienced any dead pixels?? Also I am buying from the UK so having a problem free laptop is very important if I will import it from the US.
Thanks for all your advice -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Ahh thats not nice, im getting ~3.7s on vista so hopefully if i run a barebones 7 i might get 3.6ish then ill up the MHz to about 4800/4900 and suicide run her
As for Kaminpower, reliability problems all depend on the reseller you buy from really e.g. xotic, sager etc, the screen in my opinion is great i love high gloss
I bought my laptop from a guy on eBay in the UK, was £2200 for a kickass config, search Eurocom panther on the bay -
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Q56 guess whos closing in on an SS and im on water!
Muahaha
http://hwbot.org/rankings/benchmark/wprime_32m/rankings?cores=6
Im down to 3.5 dead now -
hey.. i got hit by the signature police...image needs to be 350x125 max....
-
Ok, I replaced the cpu in the laptop with a 920 C0, and am about ready to drop the 960 into my classified mobo.......but the 960 has sticker smack dab on the bottom of it labeled Jan '10!!! I've never seen a sticker on the circuitry before....should I remove it first? Seemed to work fine in the 9280.
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
Hmm oh the chip in the middle of all he pads?
thats weird, id whip her off -
it's right in the middle of the cpu, on the bottom. You know, where you should never touch!! the side that goes into the socket...I'm afraid to pick it off
-
Mutant_Tractor Notebook Evangelist
You should never touch that bit...?
Uh oh... seems iv ruined 3x i7's if thats true >.<
Id take it off man itll only cause problems if it stays... -
You've seen a sticker on the bottom of 3 i7's before?
