The afterburner shows me 675/1350/1250MHz. If i change the clocks an click "apply" the clocks goes back to 675/1350/1250MHz?!

I finished my selfmade fourth fan for the D900F:

In MSI Afterburner, did you set a profile for 3D?

This will help ensure that whatever clocks you set for that profile get cranked up during video intensive applications.

Has anyone else had the problem that the fans on the D900F seem to run at abnormally high speeds? I've owned this computer for a bit less than a year, and it has worked fine so far, but a week or two ago the fans started making abnormally big noise. They obviously run at high RPM, since when I boot the computer, they're all silent, but under Windows they for whatever reason make a noise, even when the CPU usage is at 0 - 1%. I tried cleaning the PC by opening the cover in the bottom of the PC, and cleaning the fans, but that did not seem to help. Any ideas?

Nevermind, the problem was solely caused by dust, that was hidden underneath the fans.

I gave them a call, but they don't have a specific model for the D900F. They want me to send pictures of the drive & chassis from all angles to get more details. Looks like I need to do some disassembly :D Although I might just give one of those cheap eBay ones a try and save $50. I'm hoping there's a nice 12.7mm model available so I can stuff a 1TB drive in there!

I know, right? By the end of the year, I'd like to upgrade to a 6-core 980x, 24 gigs of RAM, the newer GTX video card, and (hopefully) quad SSD's with a bay adapter. A 4-drive SSD RAID would be insane! Prices are too high right now though. I'll just have to settle with the 4-core i7 and 12 gigs of RAM for now :D

Nice, thanks! Figured it was around here somewhere. I'm glad it has a 12.7mm optical...I'm hoping the bay fits so that I can get a 1TB 5200rpm drive for internal backup. No more USB backups, yay! :p

Are there any BIOS updates available for the D900F? Figure as long as I'm tearing mine apart and redoing everything this month, might as well update everything...

The PCBs are almost identical. The 480M D900F cooler should be fit. The only problem seems to be the BIOS support.

I asked Clevo Germany to my D900F upgrade options (460M/470M). They made me an offer. I sent my GTX 285M including cooler to Clevo. They sent me a GTX 480M including cooler (with invoice) and I paid € 535 cash on delivery.

I'm looking to buy a D900F of a friend, runs a gtx 280m at the moment, i understand this machine can use Desktop cpu's 980x, but i was reading through the thread a bit, is it possible to enable SLi capabilities via mod or somehow. Also the 485m can be upgraded on this correct, it's a malibal version.

    Anyone familiar with audio issues?

When I turn the onboard speakers up, I hear hissing. It seems like it's picking up the hard drive spinning or something. Just lots of fuzz.

    Not me.
I have rarely used the onboard speakers, because - quite frankly - the sound they produce is crap. But I tried now, while the DVD was spinning, and I gave my one spinning HDD something to do too - but I could not reproduce anything like what you describe.

Got my $19.89 Optical to HDD 12.7mm adapter off eBay in:

New Laptop 12.7mm SATA TO SATA 2ND HDD HARD DRIVE caddy - eBay (item 170490801219 end time Jan-19-11 22:00:25 PST)

Works great! Easy install, drive shows right up, and even shows up in the RAID bios. I didn't have a 12.7mm drive handy, but my 9.5mm 640gb drive fits perfectly. The procedure is basically like this:

    1. Install 2.5" SATA to the caddy (pop out plastic cushion, slide drive in, push cushion back in - the cushion acts as both a slide barrier and a lip to prevent the drive from falling out, real easy setup)

    2. Remove DVD drive from D900F (in the dual-HDD bay, there's a screw for the optical - just unscrew it and slide out the drive)

    3. Remove the faceplate and attach to the caddy (be careful - it's super easy to bend the hooks; the flat hook on the side that sticks out is difficult to remove, I used a jeweler's flathead screwdriver to pry the top piece up and slide it out)

    4. Remove the screw plate from the rear of the DVD drive and attach to the caddy

    5. Slide the caddy in and screw in (I lifted the hole up where the screw goes in on the plate with a flathead screwdriver in order to slide the HDD bay into the SATA jack, otherwise it just kind of jams up against it and doesn't fit in the port - just needs a bit of leverage to slide in right, since there are fins putting pressure to keep the DVD drive in place inside the laptop)

I'll probably need to get some double-sided tape or something since I bent a couple of the faceplate plastic pins a bit and it has a small amount of wiggle, but it's holding together just fine. Works like a champ. Awesome for under $20. Right now I've got a 50GB SSD boot drive and three 640gb HDD's inside. Yowza :D

My power supply buzzes a lot. Right now it's buzzing pretty loudly. Like a squeaking. It kind of sounds like when you have a carbonated drink and take the lid off a little bit. Is that pretty normal for a power supply of this size, or is it faulty?

I have the same "problem" with my LI SHIN 0405B20220 220W power supply. It is okay but not the best quality. mySN told me the "problem" is known with this model. There is another power supply without this problem.

I've been listening to it on my desk this morning. If I unplug it from the laptop, but leave it plugged in, it makes zero noise. When I plug it in, it seems to be tied to data transfer from the hard drive. For example, the noise changes when any of the drives do anything, including the SSD boot drive. If I open an app, the noise changes. If I zip a folder, the noise changes. It's like it's picking up an audio feed based on bus transfer.

I've been a lot more mobile lately and have had the power brick on the desk instead of the floor, so I'm noticing the noise a lot more now. Ick.

When I swapped out my WIFI card for an 802.11n model, I noticed what appears to be a second Mini PCIe port. Is that functional - maybe where the Bluetooth goes? I saw a small Mini PCIe SSD on Engadget today:

Intel's mSATA SSD 310 reviewed: a pint-size performer through and through -- Engadget

Turns out they're selling it on Newegg:

Newegg.com - Intel 310 Series (Soda Creek) SSDMAEMC080G2C1 mSATA 80GB mSATA (mini PCIe form factor) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD

There's a scad of them in that format, too...might be handy for something or other.

Update: Looks like it's for the optional TV tuner. Wonder if the slot is hackable.

I have asked mySN about the aktuell price of 485M. No answer yet. I would test the 485M if they is not extreme expensive.

I am also interested. But i do not know if this slot can handle with this Mini-SSD.

Once in awhile, I get a bright vertical line down my laptop's LCD, about 1px thick. Not sure if a wire is being pinched in the hinge system or the video card is overheating or what. Any ideas? Did some googling but there's not a definite answer - the problem seems to stem from various sources.

Not the special heatsink for the 480m, just what most people have. Is it pretty much better than the w870cu and w860cu?

EDIT: I just found a setting where you can dictate what Mhz you memory can run. CPU Overclocking might be possible because of this.

    Quick AC Adapter question.

I lost my AC Adapter for my D900F and I was trying to find a replacement but the placard onthe bottom of the laptop looks like it is saying I need the 19V 11.57A/12.2A AC Adapter but I cannot find this anywhere. I attached a picture of the placard.
I asked the reseller I bought it from and they directed me the Sager who I have not heard back from in a couple days. I contacted Clevo and same issue, have not heard back. I looked around as well and all I could find is the 20V 11A Adapter. I found the 300W 15A adapter mentioned on the previous page, but I didnt order that because after reading the post on the previous page it does not appear the connector would be the same.

Any ideas where to look for one?

    Thanks!

I think the one that you want is the female one, but check the port on your PC.

Alright, so it's been almost a year since I've been here. My laptop is starting to show its age, in that the video card isnt what it use to be.

I've read up a bit but I just want to make sure I have everything set right.

    If I purchase a 480M from here Clevo D900F
It should be able to work with zero modification to the laptop, correct? Just a simple installation and drive update?

I was looking above at this new BIOS update but I dont see any CPU clock options, are we STILL unable to over clock on the D900f? I'd love to step up my i7 920 a little...

What else am I missing? Should I look to pick up a different graphics card? Or does anyone know a cheaper way to obtain one?
