Woah there buddy no need to get people's mothers involved in this. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Some people will have different views of the notebook. Some people will like the design of it some won't but you should be a little more respectful on this forum. Should never ever say anything bad about an individual's mother.

Sotoa: So the e-mail notification on this forum isn't working for me. Then life got busy. Point being, just saw your message, and I'm going to pass on the offer. I believe I'm going to go ahead and save up for the 280m.

I have a NP5797. Has anyone had issues with it shutting down in Windows 7 64-bit? Also Is it common to have to start up bluetooth every time you cut the laptop on? I have a Bluetooth keyboard and it just seems a pain to have to start it up and wait for them to join everytime.

I don't have problems shutting down in Windows 7. But yet, you will have to turn the Bluetooth on every time you start your computer. It's stupid, I know.
Sometime I wish someone from Clevo would actually read this forum.

Dont know if you have been able to solve your random freezing problems.
I also had this problem especially when using the USB ports.
    My original Bios was 1.00.09.
As every suggestion in the thread didnt solve the problem decided to flash the Bios to 1.00.19.
After flashing, Windows 7 Ulitma took a long time loading but when finished Windows said it had installed a new System Device:
    Intel (R) 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448.
Since then my M571TU has run for 3 days without any random freezes :)

NP5796 owner here. My video performance has always seemed a bit sub-par (some web videos choppy, Boxee and XBMC video choppy), so I want to update my nvidia driver. The driver on the Sager website is over a year old, and the newer drivers on the nvidia website say I should only use the driver provided to me by the manufacturer. Is that bull? And then I know there's laptopvideotogo, but I have no clue where to start with that.

Given that I don't need to squeeze every last drop of awesome out of this card, can anyone point me in the direction of a reasonably simple answer?

Alternatively, if this has been covered before would you point me to the right thread? I searched but didn't find the info I need.

    Thanks a lot!

    ...Oh - it's a 9800m gtx card. Thanks.

(Possibly dumb) followup question. In Driver Sweeper, there are checkboxes for nvidia display, chipset, and physX. Obviously, I need to check the box for Display, and I see physX in my "add/remove programs" so I assume I should uninstall and run Driver Sweeper for that also. What about Chipset?

    Thanks again!

    Greetings to all,

I have been a very satisfied owner of a 5797 for almost a year now and I have very little knowledge when it actually comes to the hardware of the computer itself. I really would like to get educated, and I figured that because this website is actually what directed me to buying the Sager I might as well go ahead and see if there is any information that I would find out about the laptop. I recently took off the back cover the other night in search to see if I had quad core support and for what I understand I do because the numbers under the memory read 3.2B-1. I only bought it with a dual core at the time with hopes of updating the system later on and the time might be nearing what I actually do that. I am also perhaps looking at upgrading my video card from a 280M if that is possible at all, I just have no clue as to what is out there for both the processor and the videocard.

I have never been one to understand much about the way different parts work, but I am guessing that I just can't put in whatever I want because things just will not communicate. I might be asking this in the wrong place, but what are the best options for the video and processor currently for our laptop? Are we able to upgrade to 8 gigs of RAM? Do we have the possibility of keeping up with the current generation hardware for a least a little while or is the notion of being able to upgrade the parts of the laptop merely a superficial selling point?

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback!!!

Max Processor Support: Dual Core - T9900, X9100
    Quad Core - Q9000, Q9100, Q9200, QX9300

GFX Card - You're maxed out at the GTX280M I'm afraid, all newer cards use a different slot (it's only the GTX285M (OC'ed 280M) and Mob Radeon 5870 that are newer anyway)

You can upgrade to 8G RAM, you would need to buy 2 new sticks of 4G each of DDR3 1066MHz

Thanks for the info! That is disappointing that there is no better option for the video card. Do they ever make a type of converter for the card slots? Or is it possible in the future that there will be a single card that will have the potential of fitting into the slot? Like I said, I really don't know too much about the way things work...so if these are silly questions please excuse my ignorance. Any certain forum thread that I can go to that you guys know offhand that would have a list of US based companies to buy the quad cores? I am guessing I could pick up the RAM from a company like Newegg?

The "newer" cards aren't that much better. You can still easily overclock the GTX 280M to 640/1600/990 and still be within a single digit percentage difference in performance to the GTX 285M.

Maybe I missed something, but there's nothing listed for the 5796 at that link and no other bios updates offered at Sager or my retailers site (just a link to Sager)... I'm running 1.00.09 for bios. Anxious to see what .19 is offering. Any suggestions where I can find it?

Theoretically yes... and it should work. Besides if the flash itself fails and you get a black screen you can always blind flash your card back to life. Just make sure to backup your BIOS and make all the needed preparations in advance.

Ok, so it seems that someone has indeed overclocked the video card.
Original clocks are 500/800/1350 if I am not mistaking. You need to downclock your video card.

This is a bit complicated process because you need to flash back an original 9800M GTX BIOS on your video card. I will get later back to you if there isn't anyone else to help you.

That's kind of cool. Anyway to just stop getting the hiccups with out killing the power up? Although this could be why the USB port doesn't have enough power on start up too, huh?

You seem to know it all Blacky. I was bout ready to sell my 5797 and downgrade to something simpler. If that video issue gets resolved I'd just have to look into the BSODs. :(

I bought this laptop one year and half ago with the P8600 and 9800M GTX. So, I am experiencing overheating problems all this period (exept the first three months), with the CPU on 55C (really cool) and the GPU on 90C, and then it downclocks performance. I send it to Sager about 5 months ago and ""said"" they had changed the GPU (not sure about that) , but still no good. I have been using a cooler with 2 extra fans and cleaned it all again and again and again, but just the same. I had to downclock the gpu to 250MHz (from 500) and still gets 85C. I think it's the TDP faulty and the GPU needs to be replaced, but who can explain Sager. If this continuous, I will need a new GPU in 6 months, which means 699euros more!
What is your opinion......????? (My waranty expires in half a year...).

lol. good luck with sager. the same thing happened to me. for sager a temp of 103°C is normal.

first i have to ask you some questions.

have you replaced the thermal paste. sager puts too much thermal paste.

try to reseat your gpu, just unscrew it and reseat it. repaste it and screw the heatsink.

what drivers are you using? i recomend you to try the ones from sager website for your model, or the latest ones from laptopvideo2go.com

if this cant help you please make another post

I will try later this day to replace the gpu's thermal paste. I've already tried to reseat the gpu, but same temp. As you've already said said, for Sager a temp of 100C for a laptop is just normal.
By the way, Iam using 195.81, but with every driver I've installed, it keeps doing it again.... I must certainly call Sager for second time about this matter. Who can tell again Sager!? :(

    Here it goes:

This is the guide for flashing back your video BIOS to the proper version:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=160237

Here is the latest nvflash version:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/nVFlash.shtml

Here is the original 9800M GTX BIOS:
    http://www.mediafire.com/file/xwgyzqzjetn/9800M.rom

In a nutshell, you need to create a bootable USB stick. Copy nvflash with all its files on the USB stick, copy the 9800M GTX BIOS on the stick as well.

Then boot from the USB stick and run "nvflash -4 -5 -6 9800M.rom"

Hit yes everytime it asks you. Wait for it to finish and restart.

During very hot days of summer my 9800M GTX, which was overclocked as well, would hit the 90C temp after about 20-30 minutes of gaming. The solution was to simply play with the bottom of the laptop lifted up by about 2-3 cm / 1-2 inches.

However, in your case the best thing to do is to make sure the fans are working fine, update the BIOS to latest version and finally... reapply the thermal paste, using something good like MX-2.

From what I see, the cpu fan, which is a lot smaller produces much more air than the one of the gpu. It also spins a lot quicker. Is this normal, I mean is the problem coming from the GPU fan in this case?
