yes, copper adds some weight to the laptop but with my actual work i only have the laptop at home.

@ anmatheextreme for the temps i'm getting is worth the job. i just flashed the gpu @ 1.05 650-1625-900 and after playing wow for an hour the gpu temp was 59C

stock clocks after playing grid the gpu temp was 68C

Always remember to add ambient temp. Where I am it's 35C and the GPU is at idle at 51C :D.

i live in a tropical country so the climate is usually warm.

i think my room temp is around 23C because is raining a lot, but in sunny days it can reach 30C. i have to do more testing when at higher room temps

until now i feel very happy with the results. for me is worth the time and effort. if you want to get good results but not want to much weight, just use aluminum instead of copper.

jupapri, I don't mind some extra weight. In fact, I just bought two packs of those heatsinks you recommended. Seems that they already have thermal tape on them. Would I need to get the sekisui 5760 tape though?

i´ll re upload the pictures once i get back from work.

@ sotoa. those heatsinks, both the enzotech and the ebay ones come with thermal tape but is to thick and bad quality.

i´ve tried with the stock tape but is so bad that my temps got worse.

also you have to lapped those heatsinks to make them flat, start using #80 grit then 150 until 1000 to have a better finish, then put the sekisui thermal tape.

the results are awesome, sekisui is the best thermal tape.

I got a temp of 87C on GTA IV EFLC and ambient temp 31C. My idle is on 47C. Is that allrigt for my 9800MGTX or should work on it? Clock are 500/799/1375 with 0608 -1.03V VBIOS.
With a downvolting 1V I get 81C at same clocks and ambient. Idle at 46C.

@jupapri It looks to me that all your overheating issues you used to have are gone.

anmatheextreme, I get about 46ish >at ambient temp 29ish. But that's on my non GTX and stock clocks. So yours sounds normal.
But I know we can get this thing lowered.

I'd like to get it down to where the fan will not spin, while idle.

with that ambient temp i found your temps in the normal range.

if i had the propper tool to measure my room temp i could make a graph that relation the room temp vs the max gpu load temp. that would be cool

anmatheextreme. when i got back my laptop from sager, the laptop was fixed, the gpu wasn´t overheating at all, that´s why i pulled the trigger and made that cooling overhaul, inspired in Soviet sunrise´s mod.

the results until now are awesome, i used to get 84C in wow when my gpu was overheating and now is just 60C with the mod and overvolted and overclocked to 650-1525-900.

BY THE WAY. PICTURES UPLOADED AGAIN

Just learned that the GTX 280M got a core threshold temp at 105C and Failsafe at 115C (Correct me if I am wrong).
So I tthing it will be a good idea to raise my throttling temp from 90C to 95C, because on 0608 BIOS, the GPU usually touches 90C (especially in summer on 31-35C ambient). What do you thing guys? Will this have a big effect on the core itself?
@ jupapri Good to hear that!

yes. it will have a big effect. the thermal stress caused by big changes in temperature will cause solder cracks because the welding expands and contracts with heat and cooling cycles.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

take a look what happened to the welding in the inferior right corner, the solder points are broken and that is what happen with big differences of temperature.

that is subjective but for me anything more than 85C is danger zone, even if nvidia designed to handle 105C

Got it, I 'll stick with what I got now.
But I should downvolt a little so that the core stayes at 79-82C. It's true that nvidia doesn't know what an effect big temps got on gamers like me. The card will fry if it goes up to 105C (wow) and nvidia claims that on 115C (super wow) the card should shutdown.

So I haven't posted on this thread in months, but I've finally decided to repair my M570TU (long story short, GPU died). I'm trying to decide between the GTX 260m and the 280m. The price difference between the two is $60; is the 280m that much of a jump over the 260m to be worth it? I've seen that the specs are fairly similar, so I'm curious to hear if anyone has had any experience with both cards. On a related note, would going from the 9800m GT to the 260m be a noticeable difference, or would I need to go to the 280m to see any real change?

Second question: I've seen a lot of talk on here about improving the cooling power of this laptop. I've seen the link for the BerGquist pads, but are there better ones that I should get? Brand/part names would be helpful, and links where they be bought, if possible. I don't mean to sound demanding there; I'm just very unfamiliar with purchasing those types of items, and so am relying on misc. links I've found throughout this thread.

You would without a doubt regret it if you bought a 260M, especially when its only 60usd difference. The difference in performance is around 10% or something like that. 9800M GT -> GTX 260M is also around 10%, give or take.

Ecar88, since you're going to replace your GPU, you definately should replace the thermal pads. I used: Bergquist Thermal Pad GAP PAD GP2500 .100" THK from Ebay. It's rated at 2.7 W/m-K supposedly.

Others had suggested using the MX-3 thermal grease (I haven't gotten any yet).

I would go with the 280m too. Then add the heat sinks like shown a few pages back.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT 280m!!! As suggested in this thread, our MOBO only handles the older MXM 2.1 type III.

Well, given the suggestions here (thanks!) I think I'll be going for the 280m :D

A question about those thermal pads, though. The only thing that I'm seeing on Ebay that's close to what you mentioned is this sale here. Is that actually the stuff that you bought, or is there somewhere that sells it in smaller quantities? It's a little pricey, and I doubt I'll need that many pads for just my laptop.

those are the thermal pad i used for my gpu. berqguist makes good quality pads, maybe they are not the ones than have higher conductivity but they are very resistant so durability will play a good role in the long run.

i have the latest nvidia drivers but i prefer the beta 258.69 because with those drivers i have less dpc issues

    sorry but what is dpc?

i have never played a game more than 10 minutes with my m571tu. 3 times i sent it to the service but they couldnt repair and they claim that there is no problem with my notebook. I have tried 258.69 with 3 games, actually my brother tried, sims 2, sims 3 and fenimore fillmore's revenge, at 2 of them games freezed.

only by former nvidia driver i could play games such as call of duty modern warfare etc without freezing and ctd. so when my computer will be back i hope it will be repaired or i think i will use former driver of nvidia.

dpc lattency issues. with the 197.xx drivers there was a lot of problem with high lattency and the games start stuttering and the sound started to make a crackling noise.

the 25x.xx drivers fix somes dpc lattency issues. i also had to uninstall the realtek high definition audio driver and use the stock windows 7 driver for audio, that helps a lot.

also the wifi 5300 seems to cause some dpc lattency but i haven't tried anything with the wifi

No, but you can change your card to an ATI Mobility 4850 MXM 2.1 or if you are lucky enough, mobility 4870 (but those are impossible to get).

Pity that we can't change it. I am curious if 4850 or 4870 is better than gtx280?

My computer has come from service 3rd time already and they have changed my HDD. I was complaining about a sound like a mouse click or ''bip'' sound and i was sure that it is from HDD. but now it is continuining. Has anyone suffered from this irritating sound?? and also when this sound comes computer freezes for 2-3 seconds. I can't solve what is the problem.

@PredatoR_TR: Question out of the blue here. You posted earlier in this thread about being unhappy with the brightness of the M570TU. Did you ever come across a solution? My current screen feels like it has gotten dimmer.

On a related note, has anyone come across a good place to buy replacement screens for this model? On top of the dimness, It looks like there are "burn marks" on the underside of the glass. Almost looks like dust has gotten under there, actually. Anyone have a similar experience? I'm thinking of dismantling the screen today and seeing if that's something that could be cleaned.

the 4850 is ATI's equivalent to the 260, while the 4870 is ATI's equivalent to the to the 280. I bet if you really want to know, you would have to ask both sides and go from there which is better (intel or amd).

    I'm picking ATI FTW! :)

Searching here in this forum, this comes up and is very interesting. According to law, 280 is faster than the 4870.

So another annoyance that I'm rather late to the discussion with: eSATA. Has anyone gotten this working well with the M570TU? I got Windows to detect the drive, but it only transfers at speeds of 15-30 MB/s. Any ideas?

I dug through this thread, but I didn't notice anything conclusive on this issue.

which audio driver do you use for m571tu? I have looked the official website and the latest update is 4th month of 2009. is there a newer one? Speakers are located at the side so sound is not that good at our laptop. I am using win7 64bit (there is no activating equalizer like in win XP at realtek program) and I am thinking if it is possible to increase the sound of laptop by downloading the latest driver. Where can I find the latest driver and do you think that there will be a problem by using it?
