He has one SDD and one HDD.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Ok
And he got rid off his ODD?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, he threw away his M860TU's only ODD into the trash.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Right. BTW, Sov YGPM.

And I deleted it. You need 1.5mm thermal pads for your GPU memory.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Ok. Are 3M good? Or would you go for the Seikitsu something?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I never tried 3M. Sekisui makes thermal tape, not thermal pads.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Oh ok. What brand of thermal pads are you using?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Bergquist.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Where do you get one? Online store?
How about copper plates, where do you buy those? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
eBay for the thermal pads. The Home Depot for the copper plates. I'm going to cut a larger plate for my HDD on Wednesday. You can ship you my original copper plate if you want it.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
What difference does your new and original copper plate have? How much would I pay for the shipping, if ever?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Here is the copper plate I cut for my HDD. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5218933&postcount=659
The new one I'm going to cut is going to be slightly thicker and it will cover the entire face of the aluminium HDD mounting bracket. That means that I would need to drill holes for the HDD screws as well. I expect it to shave off another 1-2*C compared to my first plate.
Also, I haven't finished drilling holes into my backpanel over the HDD yet, so I can expect another 1-2*C drop from that as well. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5259440&postcount=688
I can ship it to you by USPS FCM International for free. It will probably get to you in one or two weeks. I will also throw in a 14x14mm copper shim for your northbridge too since I'm being so generous tonight. -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Really? Thanks man! You're the best
I would've bought one myself IF they were available in our place, they just aren't
Will just PM you my address
Again, thank you man.! -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I'll probably ship it out to you on Friday. I'm busy all this week with school and more tech repair jobs.
This is why I'm being generous. And I just want to help out someone who doesn't have that many resources available to them.

I do freelance tech work. People come to me with their fubared junk all the time and I offer to fix it for a modest amount. As for the case above, the guy came to me with a high offering because he needed it done fast. I think he was an attorney or a doctor. But when he pulled up infront of my condo in his Lexus, I knew he meant business. I would have put a $300 price on it, which included the equipment and the parts, but I hit the jackpot that day.
A lot of my engineering professors and students on campus come to me and refer me to others whenever they need things done right. If you're a student on this campus, you'll find my little ad in the classifieds. -

Ohhh great. That explains why modding isn't any new stuff to you, I guess
Great job man. Keep me posted about your modded laptop when it's done.
-
I got a question. I installed everest for some things, and found that i have no information for bios. Does this mean that i have to install something? if so, what do i have to install.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Why do you want to look at your BIOS info in Everest? Just enter your system BIOS you POST.
-
Its not that i wanted to check my bios in Everest as i have stated above. I just saw that there was nothing, so i was curious. thats all.

Hello everyone, I was looking at this model, and I read that there is nothing to keep the screen in place when it's closed... no magnet or hook. Is it a problem, is the screen getting "loose" after a while, I mean, does it tend to not close properly after a while? Has anyone experienced problem with that?
thank you
frank633 -
^After 11-12 months there is no problem. It`s in the same shape as when I bought it.
I like that there is no hooks or etc. Looks better without. -
Good, thank you, I soo want to get this laptop(just noticing that I should change my sig, since msi gt729 won't be out for a while...) but anyway... from de benchs i saw... the msi runs crysis at high settings better than the sager (25 fps on average from sager while msi gets 30+)
-
Do you have any link?
-
I'll try to find them, but in the meantime i realized that the msi had better fps because of it's turbo function, which the sager doen't have...
-
Turbo function as in CPU boost?
Would indeed be nice to be able to OC my CPU. -
yes but it's on the msi only that'S why i has better fps I think... it's not avail;able on sager
-
If it was available on my Clevo, I guess I would have known

The PowerPro P 15:2 (MSI 1651 ID2) has the Turbo Boost CPU overclocking feature with virtually identical benchmarks to the NP8662 - (see the thread, including benchmarks, Turbo instructions, reviews etc. at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=402583)
-
yeah, but i'm not so sure about the gts 160m... it seems week to last long...
-
I`m guessing you are selling this laptop, eh?
Who cares about benchmarks when most of the points come from the CPU? I would`nt say the 15% boost in CPU justifies the gap between GTS 160M and GTX 260M.
The temps looks a bit warm too. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
So, you haven't read what people are saying about it in that thread eh?
We actually sell both the NP8662 and the PowerPro P 15:2 (MSI 1651 ID2) so in that sense we are totally impartial.
The bottom line is if you do your research you will find the GTS 160M performance is within about 5% +/- of the GTX 260M. Once you activate the Turbo Boost, the kick in the CPU will bring performance right along side the NP8662 with the same configuration.
We have strenuously tested them both...and they not only look like twins, they perform like twins.
This is fact... -
I really doubt a gts 160m could be on par with the 260m gtx...
-
It has half the shaders than the GTX 280M and is clocked only a little bit higher. No way that equals ~5% difference.
-
im still waiting to see when the 1722-ID3 barebones will come out
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
-
well... after researching a bit, i have to say that it's impressive.... the gts 160m can actually get 33 fps of average in crysis with everything at high(at 1024 X 768 though) according to this website http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTS-160M.14561.0.html while the gtx 260m gets 37(in the same conditions) http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-260M.14559.0.html)
-
There are 4 graphic cards that are alleged to be better than GTS 160M. So basically what you are telling are that Nvidia have 5 (!) cards which performs equally?
If that is correct, I`m guessing the production costs for making those cards are pretty similar, only milking the consumer into buying the expensive "high-end" cards GTX 260/280M.
I thought the reason Nvidia discontinued the 9800M GT was due to in performed so close to the 9800M GTS? Now they have 5 identical cards? -
well it seems so... after seeing this, i might as well go with that barebone... I'll see though...
-
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
When looking at the video card specs be careful to also look at whether it is 128bit or 256bit...
Yes, you have to be very careful with nVIDIA. For example the 9800M GT was not discontinued because it was too close to the GTS, it was discontinued because it was actually an 8800M GTX that they relabeled as the 9800M GT...and once the old 8800M GTX cards that were left over when the 9800 series was introduced it just disappeared. There never was a "real" 9800M GT.
The same thing is true of the GTS 160M...it is a renamed 9800M ! -
i see... anyway, i looked at the benchmarks on your website, and it gives about 20 fps with all high settings in crysis... after OC
-
Lol, dont know how I overlooked that.
Anywho, if I understand this/you correctly, the actual mhz are far more important than the number of shaders on a card? Otherwise I dont see how the difference between GTX 280M and GTS 160M can be so small. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Why are we referencing Notebookcheck?
-
because it has a list of video cards, ranked with benchs... i shouldn'T have?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The NP8662 uses the GTX 260M, not the 280M.
I apologize for my typo in the earlier post...but as you can see I was comparing the NP8662 with the PowerPro P 15:2 (MSI 1651 ID2). -
yeah i know
anyway... they both seem like great laptops... I'm just really excited about 1722 ID3...
