Uh...I Crysis-benchmarked my NP8662 with the following specs:
P9700 @ 2.8GHz
GTX 260M @650core/910mem/1625shade
4GB 1066MHz RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
nVidia 186.81 WHQL Notebook Drivers
I used the Crysis Benchmarking Tool with the Crysis Demo.
The results were as follows:
- Run #1- DX10 1680x1050 AA=4x, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 12.31
- Run #2- DX10 1680x1050 AA=2x, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 12.46
- Run #3- DX10 1680x1050 AA=No AA, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 15.885
- Run #4- DX10 1400x960 AA=No AA, 64 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 18.26
- Run #5- DX10 1680x1050 AA=No AA, 64 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 30.05
- Run #6- DX10 1400x960 AA=No AA, 64 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 30.74
(Proof is attached.)
How do these results stack up for the system specs I posted? (low/average/high?)Attached Files:

Looks about right to me sir.

Just got my NP8662 from Powernotebooks - I could not be more pleased about this thing. A MASSIVE upgrade from my aging Compal HGL-30, tears through most games without a breaking a sweat, and it looks and feels awesome. The only so-so is Crysis, but I still getter framerates at high settings than I did with my old machine at low.
Just a quick question as well, since my old laptop's battery got completely owned by overheating while playing games, I'm thinking about simply removing the battery when I'm doing intensive things and then putting it back in whenever I need it. My question is whether it's safe to do this when the computer is on, or does it need to be off to avoid problems? -

You can safely remove your battery when you are not using it.

Had to trade in 570tu for m860tu now that i realised it's too heavy for college,
Now i have to choose between 1680 or 1920 15.4inch screen. The 1920 screen has small texts of course, but i think i'll make do by adjusting fonts.
I wondering if anyone can provide an idea as how crysis runs in wuxga? playable fps? And also can somebody comfirm if images get blurry when gaming with 1680res on a wuxga screens? Thanks in advance! -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Crysis will run playably, but not enjoyably, at 1920x1200 at low or medium settings.
-
I'm ordering my laptop with p9700 processor. I'm wondering if it will be able to handle q9200\q9300 processors, as they become cheaper. Would there be heat\compatibility issues? What about i7 processors, if there would be mobile ones in the future?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It is not certified for a Quad above the Q9000.
It also will not support the Mobile i7 because that will require a different chipset and motherboard.
The P9700 is your best choice right now, but will probably not be upgradeable beyond the T9900. -
I bought the copper heatsinks, and put all of them, except one, on the GPU. THe last one I put on the CPU.
I did notice a little drop in temperature with 2-4 degrees on both the GPU and CPU overall.
This is a Crysis test without the heatsinks and RMclock. This test is a little old, but still pretty valid.
With the heatsinks and RMclock running on the Crysis bench, temps lowered by 6c on ACPI, 7-8c on CPU and 4c on GPU. GPU clocks were a little higher this test, 610/1525/910.
If you want to lower your temps a bit, RMclock and the heatsinks are a very easy way. -
Well... I'm looking at the M860TU from eurocom... and the processors lists that can be put in the laptop shows up to the qx9300...
-
Of course ut can be put in, but it isnt supported by Clevo. Only Q9000.
-
i see..
that would mean that they(eurocom) do things not supported which could get problems to the customers if they wanna have their warranty honored? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
That is correct. You would have to rely totally on Eurocom's warranty...should you buy it from them, because it exceeds the certified thermal budget set by Clevo, and it would void the Sager and Clevo warranty.
-
well, i don't plan to buy this processor, i was thinking of getting the p8600 and then when warranty's over get the qx9300(and also when the price will lower^^) but anyway... that'S not very honest...

The only time you will get to see prices lower for mobile CPU's is after around three years. It has historically always been like this, so I hope you're ready for a long wait. But by that time, you will most likely be buying a new laptop anyway. And even more so because mobile tech is advancing a lot faster now than it was three years ago.
Eurocom isn't entirely wrong in this case. They know damn well that putting in an X9100, Q9100, or QX9300 won't damage the system any more than an officially supported CPU if treated irresponsibly. The real reason why Clevo doesn't support the said CPU's, and the GTX 280M, is to protect M570TU sales. It is purely a business decision. -
oh i see.... anyway, as you said in the end I will end up buying a new laptop before probably^^
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
So how's the hunt for a new laptop coming along, frank633? Have you made a final decision?
-
Yeah, I need a laptop now, so in the end, I won't wait for the msi gt729 to come out, and I'll get the m860TU similarly spec'ed... p8600, 160Gb 7200rpm(would have wanted 250+ but for the price i can afford i couldn't), i got a backpack included, shipping + taxes also and the rest are the default components i guess. I might upgrade it in the future, but I'm not sure, i'll see if it's worth it, cause I know that the GPU will not be high-end soon anywa^^) and that the future games will already start not to fully run on the laptop... anyway I think i can get 2 years out of it to plya game (decreasing the graphics as the time goes though)

Where are you getting it with a P8600 (discontinued) processor?
The P8600 was replaced with the P8700 back in June. -
Probably Euroscam. Why anyone would buy their overpriced goods, I can't comprehend. With the prices of EC's CPU and HDD upgrades, you're better off importing from the US.
-
no, because i got a deal with them, i don't buy it at the price showed in the configurator no way^^, and it's cheaper than getting it from the US
-
I purchased from Eurocom as well... great service and I received my laptop a few days after ordering it. They gave me an additional discount for trading-in my old broken laptop (15% off full price), and I didn't have to deal with cross-border shipping/warranty claims...I enjoyed my Eurocom experience, and I believe I saved money (at that time) because I was able to fully configure which components were put in the laptop and not. (i.e. didn't want the fingerscanner, bluetooth, CPU downgrade, wireless card choice, 9800 GTS, etc etc). many of those options are no longer available, but at the time they saved me a lot of money, and the performance is still beyond my expectations. I wouldn't disregard Eurocom as good option to purchase from.

Hey everyone, i finally decided what i'm gonna get in a couple months! How does this sound.
Sager NP 8662 - Intel P9900(3.06ghz), 4GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB HDD 7200RPM, GeForce GTX 260M, Windows XP SP3
All this for world of warcraft lol. I just want a beautiful laptop. You guys thing this is a nice set up? -
You don't need a T9900 for WoW. You should really stick with the P8700, or, if you must upgrade, go Q9000 or P9700.
-
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The T9900 is what we affectionately call the Intel® Testosterone Trap™. It isn't that much faster but it is way too much money for the small incremental increase in speed.
You will do fine with the P9700 while saving a bunch of money.
However if you aren't buying for a couple of months...then you should wait to see what is available at that time. -
I think some time ago there was a thread with a guy who actually put gtx 280M and qx9300 in np8662. Not sure, if I'll be able to find it now. However if I remember correctly it performed great, but he definitely reported some overheating issues, especially due to the video card. It's too bad about mobile i7, because from the reports on NP9280 it sounds like it's lightning fast.
Speaking of distributors, if I'm correct here, Xotic PC just lowered their price for np8662 a bit. In retrospect they limited their RAM and hard drive options, that now start at 4GB of RAM and 320gb 7200 RPM HDD. However that suits my needs perfectly, so I'm very happy about the money saved. -
btw How well would this set up run wow? is it overkill? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
However if you paid for your order before last Friday you will get the cheapest price between the two. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
BUT, as I said before you should not be processor shopping right now if you are not going to be ordering for a couple of months. Lot's of things could change between now and then. -
Also the graphic card that comes with the M860TU its overkill for WoW right? Or should i think about changing it to a 280? -
GTX 260M should be overkill.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Agreed...GTX 280M would be WAY overkill, and the GTX 260M is more than you need.
WoW will play just fine on the 9600M GT on up in the 9xxx series, or the GTS 160M. -
Alright so i'm interested in buying from Xotic even know i'm in canada. My total is around 1,684. Us switching it to Canadian dollars its about 1,815. Now What other fees can i expect. And what would the total out come be. I live in ontario. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
GST plus PST plus shipping and brokerage. Other than that, ask Xoticpc.

You should`nt have any problems at all with that system playing WoW.
WoW sucks. Start Warcraft 3 TFT instead -
-
In case no one noticed this, the M860TU barebone from RJTech is now $979 w/o the wireless card and $1019 with the wireless card. XoticPC has also dropped their price as well to $1382. The configuration is with a P8700, 320GB 7200 RPM HDD and 4GB RAM.
Could this be a hint to the W860CU coming soon? -
-
I have to say the system requirements are not the same as when WoW just started. When shadows became implemented in the game, system requirements for playing WoW on full detail got a lot heavier. I have the M860tu with 9800GTS, but with full shadows, full settings and 4x AA my system becomes laggy. (Running XP with Doxx drivers)
Right now I'm using full settings (4x AA) with 1st level of shadows. With this config WoW runs smoothly.
Using alot of addons also effects WoW system performance, so if you are experiencing slowdowns try disabling some addons first and check if the problem persists. -
-
-
Mind taking a screenshot and posting it. I'd like to see what to expect kinda. Is shadows worth having on if its only one notch up? -
4xAA is going to tax the GPU just as hard, so I'd personally bump AA down a notch to allow for HQ shadows.
Also, the M9800NU's hotkey notifications are pretty and serve as a very nice update to the M86's bland animations, so you can download them here. If you care about aesthetics, you want to use them.
EDIT: this is my upload, therefore you can download without fear. -
Buyers remorse - put my mind at ease.
Today I ordered my first Clevo ever, M860TU from Notebookguru.de. I´ve done a lot of research and finally decided on this one. The reason I went for Notebookguru is they have among the best prices in Europe, I can configure it with a Swedish keyboard and a matching laptop here in Sweden would cost several 100 € more. This one costs 1294 €. Config for the curious:
Guru FIRE
Processor:Core2Duo P8800 2x2,66 GHz 3 MB Cache FSB 1066 MHz 25 Watt
Memory:4096 MB DDR3 1066 MHz Kingston
Chassis:with Fingerprint Reader
Screen:15,4 Inch WSXGA+ 1680x1050 Pix NonGlare
Webcam:2.0 MegaPixel
Graphics Card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX260M with 1024 MB GDDR3 RAM 256 Bit
Optical Drive:8x Multi DVD Burner
Wireless LAN:300 MBit 5100 Intel
Bluetooth:Bluetooth 2.0 EDR
Hard Drive:320 GB WD Blue Scorpio 5400 rpm
My remorse you ask? I´m confident this machine is strong enough for my taste and am very excited about it. It´s the screen that worries me. I wanted a glossy screen for more vibrant colors, but that option disappeared recently. So I took the matte.
Tonight I heard they will get new glossy LED-screens at the end of the month. I dont want to wait any longer or the hassle of stopping the payment.
Someone please tell me the matte screen will be good enough for gaming, mostly shooters.
