Looks like my one RAM module goes down.
    I have 2x2Gb.

So I'm curios, if I will buy only 1x4Gb, and will add to my working 1x2Gb, as in result it will be 6Gb. Is it will be ok?
I mean will I suffer due no dual synchronization between two RAM's modules, is this thing is even actual today? Or should I to buy another 2xSomething modules for a better life?

    @kaltmond
How you made Q9200 to be 3Ghz? HW way or SW?
If it's software way, can you please to give a link?

    Many thanks in advance.

    But it's temperature...is it high?
I have QX9300 and its 85-90C time to time when working on 2.53Ghz, so I'm spending almost all the time at 1,68Ghz with 75-80C.

Is there a guide anywhere on how to re-apply thermal compound for the M860TU specifically, i.e. what pieces/screws to remove and where to apply the compound? I think it might be time for me to do that. I'm going to re-clean my unit with compressed air, but I idle 10degrees higher than I was a few months ago. I figure it might be a good time now before my office ambient temp gets hotter over this coming summer.

    Awesome info, thanks!

Has anyone had experience doing this on the m860tu? Any pointers you can send my way? Specifically, how similar is the process to applying thermal compound to a desktop processor? Is it the same procedure for the graphics chip?

Yes, it is the same. Just remember not to use too much paste.

I will keep that in mind. This will be my first time trying to do something like this so wish me luck. I am going to do the 'apply rice sized drop and let gravity do the rest' method after cleaning everything with 99% alcohol. I guess there's only so much I can screw up..

Thats the same method I have used on my M860, so if you dont use too much, youll be fine. Check the temps after pasting. If they seem too high, just repaste. A way to know if you use correct amount is to paste, install heatsink, unscrew the heatsink and see if the paste cover the die. If it does, clean it and reapply paste like you did.

Anyone else having problems with their CD/DVD drive? I have an Optiarc DVDRW-7560S and it no longer reads disks. All media is read as empty media. It seems like this is a common problem with Optiarc drives. Anyone have a fix?

Edit: Noticed this just recently as I have started backing up all my CD/DVD's. Drive has worked previously, and I recently upgraded to Win 7 Pro from Vista Business. There doesn't seem to be any drivers available out there for the fix, and Eurocom's response to fixing my CD drive was to put in my Windows 7 install CD and read off that, as if it would magically start working again.

Just received an email back from Eurocom TechSupport. Although I trust the guy, I'm not very confident he's giving me the right solution. Partly because of the amount of spelling/grammar errors in his return email (I know, not important but it doesn't give me much faith in who is giving me directions), and partly because he's telling me to edit registry settings to fix a problem related to an error message I have not been getting. Any suggestions?

Well still no answer back from Eurocom, I'll put that question on the backburner for now. Next question: how come my computer pretty much locks up when trying to watch some HD videos on YouTube? For example this video:

YouTube - Official Hawken Gameplay (work in progress)
    (AWESOME vid btw)

When I try playing this video at any resolution, my audio gets all crackly, the video lags out, my computer gets "stuttery", mouse starts lagging, and the only way to stop that from happening is either stopping the video or closing my browser. What the hell is going on here?

Post #1 and #2: It's simpler to just buy a replacement disk drive.

Post #3... I have no idea what's causing that. Try updating Adobe Flash.

Does it happen with all browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE8, etc...) or just one?

Thanks for the reply Kevin_Jack. I figured that much for the optical drive issue, my service rep from eurocom has stopped replying lol! I'm using an old external USB drive instead now, I guess that'll have to do.

As for the video issue, it's really weird. It's not like it's happening all the time, but these symptoms seem to come and go. I guess I'll keep monitoring the problem.

Ok, I've bought a new RAM module. Story is the same.

I've did a little bit different testing after.
    - If I'm using only lowest RAM slot - all work fine, no matter which RAM I will put there. I can run MEmTest whole day and no errors.
    - If I'm using only higest RAM slot - Monitoring tool will start to show memory errors, and most probable it will BSoD fast. MemTest will die to blackscreen after 20-30 sec.
    - If I'm using both RAM slots - Windows can run 1 week or 10 mins (depends on if the planets in one line), but monitoring tool will show a lot of memory error for programs, all the time...and BSoD eventually.

I've checked slots, they are clean, I've looked on MB around - all perfect, no burns or anything else.

    ----------

MB change is the only way out or there is some trick (MB+oven=please no!)?

It's definitely goodbye for my M86. The screen is hanging off and doesn't even light up anymore.

Are my temps are too high?

These are my temps after surfing with 4 tabs for 2 hours:

    TZ0 65
    Core #0 51
    Core #1 54
    GTX 260M 60
    HDD 60

These are my temps after about 1 ½ hours of Star Trek Online.

    TZ0 87
    Core #0 74
    Core #1 74
    GTX 260M 83
    HDD 70

I've taken good care of my machine... and there was little to no dust when I opened it to clean. Any thoughts? Advice?

Still, these temps are fine for Q9200 or QX9300, but for P-series processor these temps are too high.

I assume your are not using a cooler pad while you gaming, right?

Now that I've moved on to a current-gen Clevo, I'm not sure what to do with the old M86.

The screen no longer works, but the internals are still okay. Maybe I'll try to part it out. The Q9200 and GTX 260M should still hold some value.

I hear ya, trying to figure out if I want to sell mines or not. I'm leaning towards yes so I can put that money towards a desktop, it's just that it still runs so well! I figure I can try selling it for ~$600, too bad it cost over twice that 3 years ago...

I dropped it, which severely cracked one of the hinges. It developed a couple of blue or green lines on the screen, and eventually stopped working. I could still hook it up to my TV, via HDMI, and it worked fine.

The only other issue is that the two USB ports on the right side are very finicky.

    Hey guys,
Quick question for anyone that might be able to send some help my way. My silent mode button has stopped working for quite some time now. Given that's not a HUGE deal, but I can't seem to figure out how to solve the problem. The email and internet hot keys still work fine, it's only the silent mode button. Any thoughts on what to do? Thanks! :D

It stops to work for me, if I'm pushing it during first minute in win7, after logon. Reboot is enough to fix it.

What is your BIOS version? Last version did some change for fan control, so maybe it will deal with switching algorithm for silent mode too.

I've read/skimmed most of this thread, but is there anything else I should know?

    the HDD heat issue/etc...

    few questions...
Max supported memory? I've read 4gb, 6.4gb and 8gb limits
Part ###s on the screens? I like to keep an eye for good deals on fleebay for wsxga/wuxga screens
extra batts? are there any larger batts?

I just bought a 3700M from niff a few weeks ago. I polished up my heatsink and put some .016 copper shims over the vram and it actually runs a few degrees cooler than my 9800 GT did. I flashed stock HP 1.0 vBIOS and installed FX 3700M drivers. No complaints so far. I was going to undervolt it, but I'll probably just leave it. My HDD (also the 250GB) typically sits around 40-45C.

Re: the memory, scourge18a's sig says he has an m860tu with 8gb ram, so it looks like it should work. Talk to him for details.

I'm pretty sure the standard 4400mAh battery is all you can get.

Can't help you with the screens.

By the way, I got system BIOS 2.17 from Sager, and they told me to flash it straight over 1.06. I didn't need to go to 1.08 first as the BIOS thread says, and it worked fine.

Is there now a confirmed/definitive way of telling whether a M860TU can take a Quad core ?

I'm hopefully looking at getting a Q9100. Mine is a Kobalt Nexus and I've only ever seen it described as a M860TU (not ETU). Does the "V3.0A-1 or V3.0C " labelling previously mentioned apply ?
