So i just got e-mail from XOTICPC and sadly my np5125 is on backorder until september 24th . I thought i would get mines before they ran out but guess i was late. To make make matters worse asus just announced the n53jf ( Hands-On With Asus N53J, a 15-inch Multimedia Notebook for $999. I really wanted the n53 but XOTIC had the n53jq which had the core i-7 without optimus and not 1080 screen and it was a bit steep at $1200 and i really didn't need all that horsepower. So this newly announced model is exactly what im looking for just remains to be seen if there is an option to uograde the screen. I think i could order spare lcd from the n53jn and i would work on the n53jf. Plus its got the new nvidia gt425m
I bet i will get the sager no earlier than october 10th. what do you guys think? i think it would be worth it for me. i mean yea the sager had the great screen but they are almost in the same price range. my total was $925 WITH a spare battery. -
-
Shipped yesterday; great customer service from sager.
I bought this laptop mostly because of the high res screen. I was considering getting a low res screen because my vision is quite bad and I can't stand small text, but after seeing a 1366x768 laptop I knew I couldn't step down from 1680x1050 which I've used for the past four years. It's actually easier on the eyes to have high res and increase dpi. -
Why does the i5-450M seem to be preferred over the i5-540M for most folks who are buying the Sager NP5125? Is there some performance problem on the i5-540M?
-
PS. It is picked more then the i5 540M simply because it is cheaper.. by about $90.. in compairing the 520m and the 450m though, the 450m comes out on top even with a little bit lower ghz
I mean some people would rather get a cheaper processor and put the money elsewhere into like the Hybrid drive or something.. its simply you save money by going with the 450m and it really is not much of a downgrade from the 540m.

Thanks. That's very helpful. I love the poll, by the way. I will certainly post the specs when I order mine shortly.
-
Still up in the air is whether the screen will be customizable to full 1080 HD, whether it will look as good even if it does, and whether that single-button mouse can actually right click
Also, I don't think the new GPU is a heck of a lot better than the old 330. Perhaps if it was a 430 (which might not exist), but it looks like the 425 is only a bit faster.
I do like how it actually has light-up indicators for capslock and numlock though, and I bet it has a better webcam. Very interesting. I'll be happy with my Sager though -

woohoo, typing this from my newest gorgeous np5125.
arrived at israel without harm, i also did get two 62 Whr batteries, sweet
the computer looks amazing, feels great, i like the keyboard alot, don't really see what there is to complain about, perfect.
it does look a bit dull when closed but when open it looks great, really cool, the screen is amazing!! it's runs very fast and cool.
now dead or stuck pixelsno noisy fan, can't hear it at all, i only hear the ODD when it works.
my first laptop ever and i'm thrilled.
the speakers are a bit numb but for regular comp usage it's really fine. didn't get the chance to upload somr music and hear.
installed windows 7 ultimate 64, downloading update nvidia drivers as we speak, tommorow i'll install ubuntu and see how it goes.
there is only one thing bothering me, the lower edge where the wrists rest is very sharp and in some positions it's not too compfy... a bit anoying if you're lying down in bed or ona couch leaning your hands on the computer.
btw, i'll say it again, the keyboard is great, i really like it, didn;t miss one key, only the noted before space bar thingy. i don't fell any flex. only if i push too hard, but thats seems dangerous either way.
thats about it for now, i'm dea tierd, ciao. -
Update:
It seems like the OLD nVidia drivers from the driver disc that Sager provides makes the fan come on LESS. So, this is a good thing. Also of note, the old drivers fix the weird youtube video issue.
shteren - The keyboard could be better. It clicks and clacks when you're typing and it could be perceived as "loud" when you're sitting in a quiet environment. -
p.s. my cpu is idling at 30-34

Finally got my Sager NP5125 today. Currently installing W7 Home Premium on it. No dead pixels :] Nothing abnormal so far.
Also got two 62 Whr batteries.
I think everyone got that? >_< -
i5-450 has higher DMI bandwidth (4.8 GT/s instead of 2.5 GT/s found in 520 and 540), thus allowing higher transfer speed from CPU to dGPU, resulting a slight improvement in 3D benchmark. -
-
-
Nope, I didn't. I ordered the 42Wh battery and it came with one 62.16Wh battery. washogren's came with two 62.16Wh batteries because he ordered a second battery during the half-off deal. -

PassMark Intel vs AMD CPU Benchmarks - High End -
Playing Solitaire with nothing else on in the background, I noticed the fan was spinning away like it always does. This prompted me to take a series of photos!
I got my IR thermometer out and measured the screen temperature. This is with the brightness all the way down:
Then I measured the vent on the left side:
Got a bit more curious and took off the bottom panel:
I believe this is the south bridge chipset:
GPU? I don't really know:
CPU. This I know for sure!
All temperature readings are in Fahrenheit. -
Someone please help with this because I have time to switch from the i5-540m to the i5-450m and save about $100 or so.. I just need to hear it from multiple people or hear that there is literally NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER over the i5-540m over the i5-450m..
Thanks -
PHEW! For a sec I though that was Celsius. My mind almost asploded.
That looks about right for Fahrenheit, a little cool actually. -
-
Charles' review also used 450m, which got him 6.6k on 3DMark06.
Mine is 6066, Sumik's is somewhere along 6100 something. What is yours? -

)
1) Keep the i5-540m (supposedly get no noticeable upgraded performance compared to the i5-450m & lose out on $115)
2) Get the i5-450m, upgrade to 6GB or 8GB of ram -> is it worth it to just do 6GB or may as well just get 8GB? I will be using dreamweaver, photoshop a lot (I'm a Web Designer) in addition to gaming and love to alt tab a lot (i think thats when memory comes into affect a lot) and will it noticeably speed up the system from 4GB to 8GB? or at least multi-tasking? because I do this a lot.
3) Get the i5-450m, save $115 and upgrade to SSD (eventually -> year or so)
Please any ideas would be greatly appreciated.. ASAP would be best.. Thanks [:
PS. I'm voting on option number 2 seeing as in a year when prices drop on SSD I should have money by then to spend on a SSD... holding $100 for a year with no improvements on my laptop seems pointless to me (ONLY SAYING IF an increase from 4GB of ram to 6GB or 8GB is worth it.. if it is not noticeable or worth it then please tell me so because on my beastly PC I just have 4GB of ram so input pleaseee [ -
-
I'm asking someone who is used to 4GB of memory and has upgraded to 6GB or 8GB that multitasks a lot... is it a noticeable boost? because I am leaning towards upgrading the ram and taking away from the processor (in result not really taking away from the processor) I just need to know if ram is the way to go or would it just be a waste to get 6GB or 8GB of ram seeing as I multi-task a lot and use CS5 programs. -
I use CS5 as well (PS, Flash, Premiere, and Deamweaver) but I've never used more than 4GB RAM in one of those environments. Unless it's the 64-bit version of Photoshop, the program can't access more than 4GB of the RAM anyays.
On a side note, just hit 7000 in 3DMark06 (OCed of course, stock cooling as always). Hot air just spewing out of the system,though...maybe I'll put some better thermal paste in. -

haha, actually it's supposed to come in tomorrow!
the posts I've seen of recently delivered laptops seems to be very positive, so I have some newly found confidence in this machine. -
Does anyone know of a good Windows utility to overclock a Core i5...say, the one in my Sager?
-
But yeah, already using the similar but larger NP7110 model, I have grown quite accustom to the Sager brand and build quality. I love the keyboard though others have some complaints and as for the internal parts.. Those can all be changed at any point in time so no use in complaining over them (besides the graphics card, but that is what makes this machine.. this machine... It's LIGHT! THIN! and can also be used for gaming.. that is what makes this laptop so special and different).
Best of luck to you (hopefully no problems with it) and TELL ME HOW YOU LIKE IT ASAP! -
-
Well, i have instaled the cd drivers, but get a problem in video driver.
How can i solve that?
I will format again, so...
What is the best way and sequence to instal drivers of NP5125?
Thanks -
Regarding the i5-540M vs. the i5-450M it would seem that the only possible advantage would the that the i5-540M supports hardware virtualization [VT-x = Intel Virtualization Technology ] where the i5-450M does not. Where would the VT-x support be an issue? Used to be for running Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, but I understand that hardware virtualization is no longer required for these functions. Is there a significant performance improvement for VM's (which I will be using) when using VT-x?

What is the IMEI? What is the bennefit? I really need this?
In sager site, have 2 wireless driver, one for Intel Wireless driver, and one for Integrated wireless 802.11b/g/n...
I need install just one of these? (My wireless is 802.11)
And about IMSM, what is this? What is the bennefit?
Warm regards. -
IMSM is Intel Matrix Storage Manager now called Intel Rapid Storage Technology. It provides support for advanced hard drive features like raid and ncq. Your system will probably work without it, but these features may not be available.

I have a logistics question on these laptops. I'm thinking of ordering one, but I only have a week before I'm leaving town. Is it possible to get one delivered in a week or should I wait until I get back?
