So I don't know if I should be happy or mad. The supposedly "back ordered" Sager NP5125 was somehow shipped to me today after asking xoticPC about making the change in my i5-540m to a i5-450m. It was still on stage 1 of (order confirmation) and out of nowhere just changed to stage 4 (order shipped) tracking number below... I was in return not able to make the change in my proccessor but it is an expected delivery date of the 23rd... Whereas I was expecting on not getting it until early October (back order was supposed to be until the 22nd or so of September).
Soo I am confused as to why they told me it was on backorder and when I asked to change my processor out of nowhere they updated my account at xoticPC saying it was shipped. It jumped from stage 1 to stage 4 in a day not even going through stages 2 and 3 which were supposed to be like a 5-7 business day stages. Is it because I am not getting the OS put on by xoticPC but ordered it without an OS so then Sager is just shipping it straight to me and it never reaches the XoticPC facility then? Any help would be appreciated... Thanks [:

I don't have a hybrid drive, just the regular 500gb.
-
My personal opinion, research should be done BEFORE ordering a laptop (or anything for that matter). No use dwelling over your lost $100, just be happy it's on the way and you avoided the back order hiatus.
RESEARCH PEOPLE. Even easier, the sales associates at XoticPC and PowerNotebooks are there to help you, ask them questions.

ok i'm having my first problem with this babe, can't connect to ethernet networks, wifi works great (6300).
it seems like the computer recognizes the adapter just fine but it can;t seem to connect to my home network, did anyone try to use the ethernet?
i'm exchanging mails with sager and so far nothing... -
my ethernet works fine, i use it when im in my dorm room since its more reliable than wireless
PS. make sure ur using an ethernet cable and not one for a modem (modem one is slightly smaller but looks identical to ethernet, i made that same mistake at first using the cable that came with the laptop which turned out to be a modem cable not an ethernet cable, so with the modem cable it did identify the network, but could not get an internet connection which sounds like the problem ur having) -
I believe the power savings setting in the bios might be preventing you from connecting with the NIC card.
By pressing F2 on boot up and entering the bios under advanced settings
the setting is called Jmicron power setting disable from enable. -
thanks but i'm sure it's the right cable since i used it for sereval comps, and either way ethernet cable doesn't go into the modem slot.
tried it now after i saw your message, doesn't help.
it just sais unidentified network, no internet connection -
Try reinstalling drivers. Enable the device in your device manager (right click "My Computer", click "Properties", click "Device Manager" and then find your network adapter. It might be a yellow question mark. Install or update driver. Profit!
-
thanks for the advices, tried this aswell... well the nice guy from sager sais i need to buy a new cable CA6 since the np5125 has a gigabit ethernet adapter and old cables are not good...
it seems reasonable except that my desktop has an integrated gigabit adapter and it works just fine with the same cable...
can anyone comment on this subject? did anyone used the ethernet using an old cable? -
while technically you need a CAT6 cable for GigE it should still work over CAT5. You may not get the full bandwidth at the same distances, but it will still function. That said network cables do go bad all the time, but the network interface will show "network cable unplugged" in this case.
It sounds like you just aren't being issued an IP address. Make sure your TCP/IP settings are set for DHCP and that you have a DHCP server on your network. -
alright! wierdest thing in the world....
i was messing around with ubuntu trying to get nvidia drivers to work (no luck look here for info)
messed up ubuntu completly, reinstalled it and suprisingly it connected right away?!
rebooted to windows and there it works too! wierd but i can't complain... mybe it really took my hub some time to get used to the new max adress in his little home network... -
well, it's here. about to open it.
-
Well... everything is ok in my notebook. (except for the stuck pixel, but microway will change it for me without cost =D)
So... Can i force the PC to use GT330M card? -
@shteren - thx for replying my 2-weeks post on ubuntu forums !!
I posted too, hope it helps. -
Hope it all goes well.:]
-
thanks.
installing windows at the moment. no dead pixels and a quiet fan.
except the CD drive can make some noise and it was like there was a hard thumping when reading the disc, caused a lot of vibration.
I love the design, touchpad is great, and I'm not sure how much pressure you have to apply for keyboard flex, but I applied more than normal amount and had no flex, and have no inclination to test it's durability any further. It's not the best, but it's good in my opinion and the number pad is a great addition.
also, I believe they may be right about the weakness of the lid of the screen. I haven't tried to test it, but it seems like when I change the screen angle by gripping the top like I normally would, it seems to get brighter at the top while the pressure is applied. -
Amazing.
Beast.
No dead pixels, keyboard isn't loud at all, some flex in the lid but I won't mistreat the laptop by putting stuff on it anyways.
NO COMPLAINTS! -
Well, by putting pressure on the back of the screen lid, I don't get those points that I do on my Gateway.
I can't bend the screen to 180 degrees like my gateway :[ at most... like 145 degrees?
I like the keyboard a lot, reminds me of Macbooks/HP Envy? Iuno.
I noticed I need to have the hotkey.exe on to disable/enable optimus switching.
My temperatures are at 40s-50s, did not hit 60s yet.
I love the fingerprint scanning, so easy to log in now.
I'm more used to the ports on the right side, but now that I have a NYXT Cryo LX, I'm fine with it.
I haven't used the numpad yet. O__O
Webcam was not choppy for me, it worked fine and better than my iphone webcam xD.
Brightness is awesomee.
On my 62whr battery, I only got 2 hours so far, dunno why... discharge rate was at like 20k something. But it was the first discharge, currently charging and will test again tomorrow in my dorm.
EDIT - Found on dead pixel on the bottom left of the windows screen. :[ Start menu button. -
Actually, the i5-450m also supports VT-x.
-
excatly 120 degrees, sais so i the manual (i opened it to be sure what ever light means)
i like the webcam aswell, 24 fps at 640X480 is fine, and you probebly got two hours because the dgpu was runing. -
Thanks for the info. I looked again at the specs and the virtualization I meant to refer to is Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d)
450M does not support and 540M does. Is that going to have any appreciable effect when running VM's locally?
Thanks. -
love this machine.
all original drivers seem to be working perfectly.
is there a reason that I should switch to the cracked nvidia drivers?
xoticpc was great. -
If you read the instruction manual (I normally don't - had a weird feeling this time though) it says to not bend your screen more than.. 120 degrees, I think. I believe the wires connecting the screen to the main unit get stretched the more you bend it back. Kind of a design flaw, but just to be safe, don't push it to the limit k?
-
I did read in a review on NBR that the quality of materials was lacking and provided for quite a bit of flex and rattling. Have you found the rattling to be true? What about the top of the lid? No distortion but what about sturdiness? that is my only concern about buying this model.
-
Well, as an average user, I find the quality pretty good. The top of the lid has no distortion for me, it's pretty sturdy-ish. rattling? I should read Charles's review. >_<
But everyone does not have the same opinion.
-
The nice thing about VT-d is that it uses your computer's hardware. This can be super-useful or defeating the purpose depending on your application. VT-x does not let the VM interact with your hardware directly.
-
Well i'm with a problem... graphic cards.
I play Counter-Strike, and, lower resolution is good to decrease aim size.
But, when i put 640x480 or 800x600 or 1024x768 the game crash a lot of times, every map change, or reconnect, game get crash.
I've installed all lastest drivers, how can i solve that?
Thanks -
that question would probly be better asked at an actual counterstrike forum, if there is one, or somewer where they can actually help u with game specific issues
-
Just out of curiosity, why would you ever want to have your screen @ 180 degrees?
-
Some weird situations. :]
-
Guys,
Would you know what is the current waiting period for Sager 5125 ? -
How can i force the dGPU (GT 330M) to work?
-
this, and "late september" is all the information we have
-
Its back ordered until the day after mine arrives [: Oh well although I couldn't make the change in processors from the 540m to the 450m.. At least I didn't get stuck with the back order AGAIN.
-
Hey Juano11, Shteren, Stryker412 and/or Kytael... How do you like your laptop so far? I haven't heard from any of you (seeing as we have exact same setup) and I am assuming you have yours already.. I'm waiting on mine and eager to know how yours turned out.. Everything work fine? Any Dead/Stuck Pixels? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks [:

Thanks Kytel.
I wonder if anyone has posted a unboxing video for Sager 5125 ? -
been told here before, install latest driver 259 from sager site, go to nvidia settings, look for global settings, there you can choose auto, nvidia or intel.
i like it alllllot runs SC2 fHD on high settings, running around the 25 fps defenetly playable for strategy game, i looooove the wifi card, it;s excellent, really usfull and i'm glad i chose the upgrade.
only thing buging me is nvidia drivers in ubuntu but i guess most people don't mind about this.
the battery is wierd though, i got two 62 Whr ones and still they only last around 2 hours of websurfing with lowest brightness, i thought it should do at least 3 -
This makes me nervous.. It was supposed to be close to 5 hours just web surfing low brightness for the new battery.. This can't be right because I had the 7110 for a few days and with web surfing (youtube, google, facebook) on two notches below middle brightness with winamp on playing music... I was able to get about 3 hours or maybe a tiny bit more out of it and that is with the old battery AND powering a larger screen by more then an inch so I am extremely confused as to why youa re only getting 2 hours.. Are you absolutely positive you are only getting two hours? and have you switched to your other battery and checked with that too? because I have also bought the extra extended battery and 2 hours that you say you are getting is worse then the lower no longer available basic battery...?
-
i def get more than 2 hours, i typically have 3 lectures a day and can go thru all of them with decent battery to spare on low brightness, and in power saver mode
-
only difference between you two are the HD screen you have compared to the FHD screen he has and the processor.. you have the 450 and he has the 540... There is no way that the processor and screen would make that big of a difference in battery though.......
-
The speakers ARE horrible, the worst I've experienced. Volume is at 100% and I can barely hear.
Bah, nothing headphones can't fix though. Still love this baby
-
Thanks shteren, i'm formating my machine again (3rd), but... well, the manual says to me, install the Intel GMA driver first, and after nVidia driver.
I download the lastest drivers from sager site.
Well... this is correct? First the Intel and second the nvidia?
And, what did u mean about "Nvidia Settings", u mean "Nvidia Control Pannel"? If it is, i dont find any "global settings" in Nvidia CP.
Thanks. -
Mine is on the backorder still, so I'll be waiting for a while
here's another review to compare the 400 series and 500 series processors by: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Intel-Core-i3-i5-i7-Processors-Arrandale.25085.0.html -
even on high performance mode, with the screen at 1 brightness, 1 hour brings my battery down to only 80%, so in theory in that mode i should still get aprox 4-5 hour of battery life (that is with utorrent running, a onenote document and firefox)
-
I have one question, how does the 1366x768 screen fare against the FHD screen in terms of contrast/colour and overall viewing experience?
thanks
-
Man.. what i'm doing wrong?
I've downloaded all lastest drivers from here:
Software Upgrade
All 64bits versions.
And i can't see the option that guys says: Global Settings in nVidia CP.
I'm now downloading the lastest driver from nvidia site, i will try install him.
I search a lot, and found one unique "Global Settings" in pc, he was in Graphic Properties on Intel CP, then have an "Device" box, and only give-me option to use Integrated Device.
Where is the option to use the Dedicated Device?
Can anyone help-me? What i'm doing wrong? -
I'm glad your happy with your laptop.
So far, my screen is perfect also.
I'm happy with the keyboard.
As someone else suggested earlier...open the Realtek audio and turn all of the Equalizer settings to the max. It does make the audio better, not good, just better. Meaning you can actually hear things over some ambient noise without putting your ear to the keyboard.
Just used it while laying in bed for the first time last night. I also noticed the sharpish edge on the front and found it irritating. A fairly small niggle though. I suppose I'll get used to it. -
I dunno, exactly, how to quantify "sturdiness", but I would say that it feels average/slightly above average.
I certainly does not feel cheap, but I wouldn't try hitting it with a hammer.
As my first new laptop in several years, it feels miles better than my old one. -
the regular screen (which i got) is actually quite nice, much better than the screen on my dad's dell laptop, brighter, and def better contrast.
only diff id say is the resolution, thats really the only major diff between them so choose based on ur need for resolution
