ur points are the exact reason people chose the NP5125, battery life is MUCH MUCH better on the 5125 due to optimus, plus the fact that the 2180 has a glossy chasis is a negative IMO, also no number pad on the 2180

so really, only reason to get the 2180 instead is if u wont be moving around much and just want to game, for everything else, the 5125 is a superior choice

Was anybody able to get the fingerprint reader to work in firefox or Pale Moon..? I was only able to get it to work in internet explorer.. It is awesome but I hate IE and will never ever ever ever use it so the fact that it works in just IE does not help me at all... Anyone know how to get it to work in FireFox or Pale Moon? :D

    - no USB 3.0
    - no Optimus
    - slightly heavier (5.95lbs vs 5.73lbs)
    - slightly bigger (14.84" (w) x 10.04" (d) x 1.06" ~ 1.48" (h) vs 14.72" (w) x 9.8" (d) x .98"-1.46" (h))

On my notebook have the DirectX 11 installed.

Anyone opt for a custom screen sticker with their 5125? If so, what resolution did you send them, and how does it look/feel? Is the image pixelated at all, or feel like it might peel off easily?

Really wanting to get a sticker as an anti-theft kinda thing.

I went for the better battery life....

Plus, I do have to say that the 2180 is F'n ugly....

Admittedly, the 5125 isn't a supermodel, but it does not stand out as being a freaking ugly laptop....

Sooo I emailed XoticPC about not receiving my spare extended battery about a week and a half ago and talked to them on the phone about it like a week ago and still have yet to get a response.. Supposedly its on Sagers end that isn't responding to them but idk.. Kind of annoying because I really need this battery ASAP /:

Edit: Got an updated tracking number from them and my extended battery will be arriving in about a week. Sager was having some issues or something with the extended batteries or something but everything should be good now. [:

From xotic web site the spec says size is:

    14.72" (w) x 9.8" (d) x .98"-1.46" (h)

Why the height has almost half an inch range, is it because of 6-cell and 9-cell batteries?

So, the height with 6-cell is 0.98"?

    Thanks!

Is it possible to use different levels of brightness other than the eight levels selected with Fn + F8/F9?

The lowest level of brightness can be too bright for me. And at times when the lowest level isn't bright enough, the second lowest level is too bright. The level of brightness changes too much between adjacent levels; is it possible to get more levels of brightness in between the 8 standard levels? Or reduce the overall scale of brightness?

I did not realize there is a 9-cell battery with this laptop. But if there is, I don't think it would change the height. I'm guessing the reason for the half-inch height drop is because the bottom of the laptop curves up at the front.

You're right, there is no 9-cell for this model. I messed it up. I am researching few models right now and it got mixed up in my head :)

Thanks for the answer. 1.46" is a bit too thick I think... I am looking for a laptop for grad school, I'll be carrying it daily in bookpack.

dude 1.46" is not thick at all.. its adding on the two little stoppers at the bottom of the thicker part too adding like .16" or something.. Trust me this is a VERY skinny laptop that is actually able to game with. If you dont want to game whatsoever in the slightest then alone this laptop is not worth it to you.. but if you do even just a little bit then there isnt any better... havent you seen the gaming laptops thickness be like 2"-2.5"... this laptop is not thick AT ALL for a gaming laptop and trust me.. in my hand and backpack (bring it to college every day) its not the thickness you worry about.. its the weight.. and this laptop is pretty damn light weighing at like 5.2 pounds (yeah the weight is wrong on the website too) More or less.. no gaming dont get it.. but if you want to game at all.. there wont be a skinnier laptop that weighs less then this one.. just my two cents.

Thx for the reply, no I am not gaming anymore (SC2 is very tempting :D) but I need it for grad school projects: programming c++, matlab, etc. I am looking for reliability, portability, and FHD screen. I'll be carrying it daily for a mile each way to school.

Wow. I just read the NotebookReview review on the 5125. Is it really as flimsy and thin feeling as they say? :( I do a huge amount of typing and lugging laptops around so this is disappointing.

How long are y'all expecting this notebook to last you? How reliable is Sager? (in terms of longevity)

Edit: Also, anyone know how the speakers for the NP7110 compares to the NP5125? Are they exactly the same? (ie both crappy and really low volume)

Everything is great except for the lid, which is way too thin and flexes a lot. I don't think it will cause any damage unless you apply so much pressure the screen cracks. Which, hard as that may be, is still more likely to happen with this laptop due to the thinness of the plastic.

Combining portable and a FHD is hard, and I can't think of any off hand. But, I think you may want to pursue a weaker processor with a longer battery life.
Or maybe get this laptop, and look into undervolting (of which I know nothing). But it's how Alienware makes their laptop batteries last longer.

Not too thin to be destroyed under a few pounds of textbooks hopefully? Definitely not strong enough to let a cat walk across I guess, lol. Just sort of scared I'd buy one and then have it cracked and smashed to pieces in a month.

That is a thickass computer... Hah it better be for a desktop replacement or I'ma flip out on you :p This computer has gotten 90+ AVERAGE FPS on all the games I have tested it with, Counter Strike Source, DotA etc. sure older games but still 90 FPS is way more then acceptable. A better graphics card etc. is just a waste UNLESS it is for a desktop REPLACEMENT.. But then again, you may just be rich as hell and not really care :p

Replace it every year or sooner.. Jesus dude.. don't you think 2 months is a little too "soon"? hahaha
and don't use the phrase "you only live once" as an excuse to blow a load of money on something you are craving at the time... Thats taking the saying "you only live once" to a little different of its meaning :p

PS. Is the SSD and Hard drive caddy sold separately? or nah

I can't say, but I just produced a ripple with little pressure. Definitely not as sturdy as my girlfriend's Dell Inspiron notebook, which besides the touchpad, is a surprisingly good laptop.

if you are referring to the weird texture of the touchpad.. it eventually gets better as the natural oils from your skin make it smoother haha dont ask.. idk u just become more accustom to it and it changes a bit.. its a great touchpad IMO and I honestly HATED it at first.. but whateverrrrr :p

Discovered a dead (black) pixel near the middle of my screen. It's fairly noticeable because of its location. I've read dead pixels are impossible to fix unlike stuck pixels. :*(

Sorry to hear of that Autumn Demon, have you tried any of the pixel utilities out there to see if there is any hope for it? (Software or some of the pressure/rub methods) Might we worth a try.
