That would be awesome. I was thinking about 580M if it had 4.5GT/s for DMI...w/e that is. :p but 560M sounds better choice now that they both have same DMI with just a little difference in frequency.

There has to be something different with the 560m and 580m. Basically it is saying it's a $55 difference for an extra +133mhz turbo boost? That can't be right :( I have the 580m on pre-order right now, I mind as well change it to the 640m and get an extra 1mb cache and little faster CPU. Damn DMI changes has made me all confused

    Curse you INTEL

I would say go with the cheaper alternative and get 560M instead of 640. Save some money and get extra ram or something....just my $0.02.

Received my new np5135 today. Sager gave me a full refund for the np5125 I returned, so the total cost of replacement has been about $35.

I can't, they already cashed my check and is waiting to be cleared. Only way now is if I upgrade the CPU and pay the difference with a credit card.

I'll probably just keep the 580m, since there has to some kind of logic as why the 450m was faster than the 520m at the time. 450m and 580m was the only processors that said 4.8 GT/s DMI before it was changed.

Still debating  about the 640m, waiting for a reply from xotic for a quote on the upgrade. I mind as well bite the bullet and just get the highest dual core possible at this time.

Don't do it. The 640M is really a waste of $$$, at just 8% faster than the 580M.

And that's only because it's too late to just take the 560M.

Another reason I was thinking about the 640m was the 4mb cache compared to 580m 3mb cache. I tried researching about the cache difference and can't seem to find a solid answer.

For example, what kind of difference would that +1mb cache do if I play starcraft 2, use adobe photoshop, encode movies here and there.

Has anyone had any issues with their LAN connection? My wireless works just fine, and I first tried to fix my LAN by updating all of the drivers, but to no avail. I'm pretty sure the connection from the modem/router is good as it has worked in the past. I managed to get it to connect for about five minutes once in about thirty or so separate tries with different cables. I thought it was about time to ask the community.

i thought i had lan problems in the past but it turned out my router didn't want to give the laptop an ip and needed a restart.

if the network connection seems fine in windows and it sais it's working it must be some problem with your home network.

Well, I did it, I upgraded my CPU to i7-640m, ouch. My payments has been cleared and is in production so it should arrive in about 2 weeks according to them.

    Here are my specs:

    Sager np5135
    15.6" FHD 1920x1080
    Intel Core i7-640m
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    Nvidia GT 425m
    Intel Wireless-N 6300
(While in production, looking for SSD deals for main hard drive)

Now this is going be a very long October

1MB of cache = zero difference.

    Congrats.

Well, technically, it isn't zero difference, or else, they would all just make the cache size the same. Maybe it's not a justifiable difference to some people, but there is a benefit for 4mb cache compared to 3mb cache when doing something. At least the CPU can go to 2.88GHz-3.44GHz.

Oh well, no time for buyer's remorse, the past is the past. Time to be proud, i7-640m POWER with 2.88GHz-3.44GHz and 4mb cache!, OH YEAAA!

Anyone with a NP5125 or NP5135 uses a SSD as the main hard drive? Is it reliable/stable to use it for data also on this system? I mostly hear people with SSD using it as a boot drive and using a normal hard drive for data. I'm just worried if my files will get corrupt or messed up. I remember reading an article about someone using SSD and they save a file and when they restarted the computer, the file reverted back as if it was never changed. Anyone else experience any troubles with SSD before I go buying one for my new NP5135 coming? Thanks. :)

I find it very annoying how every time one toggles Optimus, the "Power Life" power plan is reset to the default values, and I have to go in and customize it each time.

Can I get the nvidia drivers direct from nvidia or do I need Special ones from Sager?, and any known probs with this PC? and is the lower res, (1366) screen nice to? I dont want to criple the 425 that it comes with. I'm new so sorry if these been answered allready, thx in advance :)

A few updates on the Sager NP5135 fan:

In a cold room (65F or so) the laptop starts without the fan running. Using core temp, the fan started up when CPU temp reached 42C. The fan stopped once the CPU temp reached 30C.

It seems like the laptop is not over heating; rather, the fan is just overtly aggressive in its cooling. The fan will not shut off unless that CPU temp gets <30C. For a processor rated to 105C(?) it seems ridiculous.

The 5135 is the updated 5125. 425M vs 330M and updated Intel processors. I can't speak to the screen difference but from what has been posted in this forum both screens are great, though it is a waste not to get the FHD. For the small price difference, I can't imagine not getting the full HD screen. You should be able to get the drivers direct form nVidia's website. The BIOS updates you need to get from the reseller's site.
AS far as issues, there have been a few minor ones discussed such as stuck pixels and according to a few a somewhat flimsy top, though others have refuted that claim. Hope this helps.

Anyone with the 425m try installing the new Nvidia drivers?

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/526587-nvidia-notebook-drivers-whql-260-89-a.html

Any LCD screen has a chance of having stuck or dead pixels. I have a stuck pixel on my mine: green when the screen is black. JScreenFix didn't fix it, but it's near the bottom of the screen and nearly impossible to see unless the screen is completely black or my face is really close to the screen. Maybe I'll try the rubbing technique to fix it but it's so small it's not really a problem.

The screen casing is a little too flimsy when the laptop is closed.

I too saw a poster claim they liked the regular HD screen, but Joseph from Xoticpc told me in his opinion, the regular HD was not the same caliber has the FHD screen.

Maybe the thickness of the lid varies, but if anyone had the lid I had, I can't them claiming it was anything but flimsy. It's a thin, THIN piece of plastic.

That driver did not work on my NP5135. I used the driver that came with the CD. It is 259.39.
The BUS speed is still limited to PCI Express 16x @ 8x just like the 330M in NP5125.

I got it this morning! It is as beautiful as my previous NP5125. This time the VGA button is not mushy! I thought I finally had the perfect laptop until I spotted a stuck blue pixel. There was a stick green pixel in my NP5125 which later turned into a blotchy white horizontal line. I'm a little worried. Of course, I'm the one who gets the imperfect screen. Of course...

Anyway, steam is updating Left 4 Dead 2 right now. I will post results soon.
EDIT: It must be the drivers... This 425M GT performs worse than the 330M it seems.

Will everyone post their idle temperatures please?
Mine is at 50-52 per core. 48 for the GPU. IC Diamond Applied (I suppose... I paid for it, anyway)

The 260.89 drivers I downloaded from Nvidia's website won't install. Looking at Sager's website, I see the video drivers for the np5135 were updated today so I'll try those. Unfortunately the download takes two hours because Sager's host is so slow.

    Visit:

Modding 101 - Missing Optimus Device IDs - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

Ignore the text at the beginning of the post. Just follow the "Simple Install Instructions" at the bottom of the first post to install the latest divers. The instructions say to download the older driver, don't bother. The instructions worked just fine with the latest (260.89) drivers.

I just did it today, worked like a charm.

I didn't have to do any manual manipulation of any of the INF files. The only catch is to be sure to let the drivers actually start to install before you press cancel. There will be a screen that says, "Creating Necessary Files" (or something like that), don't cancel yet. Wait until you see the actual NVIDIA graphic that says installing drivers. Then hit cancel, then extract the INFs, then re-install the driver.

I did uninstall the Sager drivers before I installed the new ones, I don't know if this is necessary.

    Good Luck

    John

I put arctic silver 5 on my cpu and gpu by myself. It's very easy. Everything is located under the large under panel, which comes off with 4 small philips head screws. Then there are 6 screws holding the heatsinks on the cpu and gpu.

Has anyone done a comparison of the webcams between the 5125 and 5135? Just curious.

I also just wanted to throw in my opinion of the FHD screen. While the resolution is great, I don't think it's all that phenomenal of a panel. Brightness is decent, but not the best I've had/seen. Also, I feel the contrast is so-so, with all colors washed out a bit and a good amount of backlight bleed on a black background (at least on mine). I compared it to the screen on my $400 11.6" Acer 1410, and the only real difference is the resolution.

Also, compared to the screen on my old Dell Studio XPS 13, while the Sager is higher res, the Dell has much higher brightness and much better contrast.

I have also had these small "light spots" on each of the three FHD screens I've had so far on my 5125 (had screen replaced twice because of particles and light spots on the screen (no, not dead or stuck pixels). The panel I have now has one light spot, but it's at the very edge of the screen, so I can live with it). That was one thing I was definitely not happy about. I guess I was just really unlucky.

I will admit though that I am a bit picky when it comes to screens, so for the majority of people, I think it's probably more than fine, and it's livable for me. I'm curious to see how the new Dell XPS's are with FHD screens are.

So what are other people's opinion on the screen? Have you compared it to other FHD notebook screens?

I agree. While it saves on battery, it also prevents non windows users from using the dGPU at all. Having a dGPU that you can switch off in the BIOS if you want to save on battery life is a much better option IMO.

I'm am so unimpressed by the 425M GT at the moment. Future drivers will certainly improve its performance. I can wait, I guess.
Has anyone managed to correct a stuck pixel? I've been flashing colors at it for hours but no go. I tried massaging it gently and still nothing. I don't want to massage it too much or else I might get the same problem I got with my NP5125. Any advice is appreciated!

my view is optimus is good, nvidia just needs to work with the users A LOT more to take feedback and whats working and what needs to be changed, but it seems theyre trying to do optimus the same way they would for any other video card/driver software. they dont seem to get that they need to work with the users to see what needs to be added to work with the optimus tech like punkbuster for example

hey Hamster, did u get your pc from XoticPC?, as far as the pixel is it still under the 30 days of purchase, have you called them, (if it is under 30 days) to see if they will replace the unit? I've heard a few people mention dead pixels on this lappy, I hope this wont be a prob when i get mine, I'll send it right back

This is so frustrating, I've been e-mailing Punkbuster back and forth for over a month and finally they gave up and passed the buck to nvidia. Nvidia doesn't seem to want to do anything.

So two of the major reasons I bought this laptop now are useless.

and the way ty software like PB works... hardware is not at fault in these scenarios, shoddy software developers are, software is supposed to work with hardware, especially one used in games, hardware isnt built to be compatible with all software out there

That is very frustrating. I agree with what some of the responses. nVidia really needs to listen to its consumer base to fins out the needs and wants of its loyal customers. While Optimus has its place, it would be nice to have the option to turn nit off. I am going to get this computer even though Optimus will not work for the vast majority of my daily tasks. The only time I will get to use the 425M is when I boot Windows 7 up for either a game or probably watching movies. I'll have to see if the iGPU is up to the task of displaying FHD Blu-rays without stuttering in action scenes, in wich case, only gaming. When I get a computer for just me and fun, it will most definitely not have Optimus, unless there is some serious progress in its delivery.
