processing load increases proportionally to the settings in the game, the highest settings in windows only require <1% of the available cpu/GPU power, and there is extra processing required to upscale the screen resolution (in desktops, this is generally processed by the screen, but laptop displays do not have that functionality)
-
sooo, there is defenetly some improement in need for speed undercover, with 259 i could only set things to med to have 25+ FPS, now i can pump it all to high on 1280X720 including AAX2.
did any of you tried to play the new NFS? hot pursuit? it's amazing! great graphics, and apperently it runs on Full HD all high without a hitch on the 5125
i was sooo pleased, i saw the trailer and said, nehh it will never look like this with me lappy, but it does! check it out!
Edit: hmmm wierd, i also played the new SW force unleashed II, it also works better than it's prodecessor, i think new games works a bit better than 2008,09 games, they were horrible for GPUs.
the 260.99 is good driver.
BTW, my "S" key is became sort of stiff, like something got stuck beneath it, i'm thinking of opening it up to see whats there, did anyone stumbled on a similar case? -
I'm up for learning something new. "laptop displays do not have that functionality" Why's that? Any source?

can someone recommend me a laptop cooler for my 5135?
I'm debating in between:
Zalman NC2000
Zalman NC3000
Cryo LX
Thanks -
Somebody quick! Try pressing Fn+4 (the NUMBER key, not the function key).
I think this may be a fan setting hotkey. When I press this combination, a pop up box comes on in the upper left corner with a fan icon and the word "Slow" or "Norm".Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Question: Can you plug headphones into the S/PDIF port or will the jack not fit? I remember seeing the Dell XPS 15's port showing a headphone icon above it so I was curious if you could actually plug the headphone jack there.
-
It works for me.. and seems as if yes, it is the fan settings.
-
Nothing.
Is there a list somewhere of all the Fn commands? Or a way to change what keys do?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
list is in the user manual, they cannot be changed.
-
The user manual doesn't say anything about Fn+4...

Managed to snag a new HDTV on Black Friday. 37 inch 1080p. Hooked it up via HDMI to the Sager and it is BEAUTIFUL.
However, to get sound to go through HDMI you have to open control panel -> sounds and set HDMI to your "default" sound device. Figured i'd share since it took a bit to figure out. -
it worked straight on for me, didn't had to configure anything.
BTW fn+4 works for me aswell. -
TV's and monitors have a separate image processor built in (this is how you can calibrate displays, raise lower image brightness [ not backlight brightness])
laptop displays do not have this as it would increase power consumption, they're connected directly to the video output instead of going through any processing -
Which version of the hotkey drivers are you guys all using?
The version that came with the DVD? (not sure about version number)
The version thats on the Sager site? (3.3005)
Or the version that's on the clevo site? (3.3007)
or... is everyone that is able to change their fan speeds on a NP5125 instead of a NP5135?
and if you are on the NP5125, which driver version are you on? -
I'm running Hotkey version 3.2025. I think it's the one that came on the CD. I've got a NP5125.

Any word on Optimus drivers that'll have PunkBuster support anytime soon? ]: I'm miserable without my games!
-
Will that ever happen? The error is more so on PunkBuster's side: it kicks people for having multiple instances of Direct3D. I don't see how a driver fix from Nvidia could fix that, as Optimus is designed to have two graphics cards working at the same time. I suppose a new driver could try to fool PunkBuster, but wouldn't that make it easier for hackers to get around PB?
When Huron River comes out I think we'll see a lot more laptops with Optimus, so PunkBuster will have to address the issue themselves. -
Just some quick question here about NP5135:
Besides the resolution difference, is there any color rendering/view angle/colorspace differences between the 1366x768 and 1920x1080 LCD panel?
My current laptop is a HP HDX16t and I'm looking for a replacement laptop this month.
Thanks1 -

Well I heard the 1920x1080 panel was very good, while I am not sure there are any good standard 1366x768 panels out there.
-
I have the 1366 screen myself and id say its pretty good, from what ive seen with the 1920 screen, only real major diff is the resolution, im def happy with the 1366 screen
-
Just get the 1080 screen. You won't regret it. It is amazing.
-
The service manuals for these models have now been added to my list
-
I think until PB fixes the issue that all companies selling Optimus enabled laptops should put a disclaimer letting customers know. I know I'm pretty pissed off that I can't play any PB enabled games which is the bulk of my library. I've had the laptop since September and one of the main reasons I bought it was to game. I contacted both PB and nVidia about the issue and went back and forth for months with them. Basically each of them blame the other, and there is no fix in sight.
-
Not all the 1080p screens are amazing. I had a 5125, but it malfunctioned and I decided to switch to the 5135 while in RMA process, as I was within my 30 day return policy. But, I should have just returned it because the NP5135 took forever to get here, and by then the 30 day return policy was over.
The screen on my first laptop was really great. Best I've seen on a laptop. However, my second is not of the same quality. It's brightness fails in comparison to the brightness of my original screen. And the contrast ratio is poor on this one, too. Having the screen at default settings is too dark to be able to watch slightly dark video (aka night time in any show/movie), and I have to turn up the brightness in all applications in order to see, which dilutes the colors.
If you're buying it for the screen, go with the 1080p, and return it if it isn't any good. They upscale well, if native resolution in games is your concern. -
Thank you so much for posting this! I did this on my 7130, and now I can FINALLY watch HULU and youtube videos properly with the 425m. I can read subtitles, I can use the menubar slider in full screen, i can see the X to close the popups on some youtube videos..--it works like it's supposed to. For some reason, the integrated card can't even handle 480p HULU without stuttering a bit. And of course all 720p+ youtubes were stuttering/lagging a bit w/ the igpu too. But now I have no problems. Thanks a million. The green/orange light even works properly.
-
No problem but i'm wondering why you were having stuttering problems?
Even with the Sager drivers, all videos run perfectly smooth on the integrated GPU. Even 1080p.
I actually forced Firefox to only use the integrated GPU and never switch to the 425m because the integrated card works perfectly and to keep heat down.
I'm curious, but did you simply install directly over the old drivers?
Do all 3 of the GPU LEDs work, or only the one that actually says "VGA" on it? -
When I installed the drivers after a driver sweep, the dGPU was always lit, but only the iGPU worked.
-
Yeah, thats my experience but people seem to be having better luck with installing the new drivers directly over the old. I'm assuming this keeps the necessary files for the LED lights to work in place.
-
I too would like to know if you uninstalled your old drivers before installing new ones.
-
I installed over the existing 18x.xx driver but chose "clean install" during the install process.
Update on fan noise: I've noticed that the fan isn't constantly on when using Ubuntu. I think Ubuntu has better heat management in the OS somehow. This is also noticeable during long (2+ hrs) use. The touchpad will get pretty toasty in Windows 7, almost to the point of not being able to keep my finger on the touchpad for more than a few seconds. However, when using Ubuntu, the touchpad is never more than room temperature. I think the south bridge chip sits under the touchpad? -
I installed over the other drivers, and checked the clean install box. As for the LED's, the one that says VGA on it definitely works. I'm not sure about the lights next to it because I never paid attention to how they worked before.
And as for the videos not running smooth on the integrated GPU, i have no idea why that is. It still stutters on the iGPU when I stream video. I have been watching this Shaun white video @ 1080p: YouTube - Front Double Cork 1080 - Shaun White
When I Have it on iGPU only, the video is choppy while he's doing tricks, it's obvious the frame rate is too low right away. And the guy who's talking- his words don't match his mouth movements. But when I switch over to using the 425m and watch the video, there is instantly a huge difference and everything is smooth.
-Is it possible that I have a bad chip in my computer? or what -
I just watched it. While the frame rate isn't as smooth as lower resolutions, it wasn't as choppy as you make it sound. It was watchable, but I wouldn't want to watch a movie like that.
In power options, make sure that the iGPU video playback is set to maximum performance. -
Playback is surprisingly smooth in Ubuntu on the iGPU.
-
Just watched that video in 1080p on full screen and its perfectly smooth. Maybe you have a bunch of processes running in the background or something?
-
So i've got my 5135 for a few days now... I love this !!
around 6700 for 3dmark06
Full HD 1080 screen
i7 640m
500g hdd
4 gig RAM
blu ray
Intel 6300 wireless
runs cool as hell max ~ 82c CPU and ~70 GPU when running AVA for an hour or so, min CPU is around 35/30 for core1/core2 which is CRAZY cool, I can't even believe it.
Now to buy a cooling pad to cool it even further
and for 966 CAD shipped I simply just can't complain -
Glad to hear someone else noticed the same thing...I thought I might be going crazy, lol. The first screen I had on my 5125 was bright and had good contrast, but was plagued by white and dark spots. I got the screen replaced, but the replacement had issues with white spots as well. The third replacement had no issues with white spots, but to me clearly lacked the contrast and brightness of the first one.
-
Nah, there is nothing running in the background. And I doubt that would make a difference, since the cpu usage is only around 50%. It's just choppy as all hell to me. I definitely have something wrong here with my system probably. I mean, i have a core2duo laptop w/ integrated card that can handle 1080 streaming video smoother on the igpu than my brand new 7130-makes no sense.
-
Where did you get a fully loaded NP513 for under $1K? That configuration runs about $1400 in the US.
Thanks,
C. -
Not really. Its $1200 on Xotic.
-
ordered a NP5135 today!! can't wait!
but the order doesn't show up in my account page...I paid by paypal, is that normal? -
I lucked out on this deal. Bought it from a boutique reseller on ebay and they forgot to put up a reserve price
does anyone know if it's even worth it to get a Zalman 3000 laptop cooler for 5135? the vents on the bottom seem rather small/scattered. I posted in the cooler recommendation thread and was suggested to get any cooler with a 200+ mm single fan. -
I don't think its needed. I use my 5135 on my bed (directly on my sheets/matress... I know this is frowned upon but, hey, its where I do my work) 90% of the time and it generally stays cool. Even when I play the occasional game or model in 3D with Sketchup/Revit/3dsmax it never gets TOO hot... it does get warm on the bottom so I just lift the laptop up off my bed for about 10 seconds and it cools down quick.
This laptop just seems to stay amazingly cool.
Also, after I took the bottom panel off to put some more RAM in I realized that there is basically a straight shot between the keyboard and cooling fan so lots of air gets sucked in between the keys. If you look carefully you can even see that they put a space/channel between the motherboard and bottom of the keyboard so air can flow over the top of the motherboard as well as the bottom. -
I just watched that video of the Double Cork on my old (five year old, 1.83 GHz T-83 Centrino duo, with a bad iGPU) in 1080p and while it was a little choppy on the action scenes, all the dialogue matched up and it was suprisinngly smooth. If this can do it, the 5135 should have ZERO issues doing it if everything runs correctly. I am running Ubuntu, so perhaps that is the difference. Windows just does not handle things as efficiently as *nix with the iGPU. Now to be able to use the discrete GPU or Optimus with it. Finally also placing my order this week for the 5135 without HD or RAM.
-
the fn+4 did work...at least in appearance. fan didn't actually slow down though.
-
Yea, I hear you. I have 7130, which is not the 5135, but it's still 425m+igpu, which is the same graphics setup, so i really don't know what the problem is. I have been playing with drivers and such, but still can't get igpu to work right. I also have an asus UL50vt core2duo w/ 210m+igpu, which I would think would be much less powerful, but it also plays that video fine. It's not that big of a deal, but I just wish it would work right so I could leave it on the igpu setting all the time, because it seems to stay cooler when just running on the igpu. It is possible that there are some driver issues with the igpu on the 7130 that the 5125 and 5135 do not have trouble with.
-
I doubt this will work but try disabling Flash hardware acceleration.
-
Just thought I'd let ya'll know ... I clicked on that link "laptopvideo2Go or laptops2go" or whatever, from my work computer and immediately got a pop up msg that I was infected with Malware. The next thing I know I have our IT folk coming over to see where I got it from. Thanks a lot! I got busted for researching info on my soon-to-be-ordered-NP5135!
Once they cleaned the infected file from my laptop, and no one else was around, I did a little research and found a post where a person said that every driver downloaded from them contains malware. Lovely eh? Sheesh, for me, I didn't even need to download anything - all I did was click on the link to their site.
Anyhow, lesson learned for me - I will never download a driver from anywhere other than the original manufacturer's site. Period.
** Edit **
I see that this post didn't get placed as a reply to the original post that contained the link, but if you're curious, it was in the section where everyone's discussing the video drivers. (optimus/non-optimus, light features, etc) -
