One post on the whole internet and you're going to take it as fact?

I have been using lv2g drivers for years now and so have thousands of other people without any problems, I think something else might have happened with your download.

Which exact driver did you download from them?

the system recognizes the vgacard and it's no problem to install the drivers

but the nvidia-card are always inactive :-(

Does anyone know if the NP5135 works well with Ubuntu.

Also what is the battery life with the i5 580?

I've been dual booting Win7x64 and Ubuntu 10.10 amdx64 for a while now. Both are very stable, although both suffer from some problems. For example, Win7 sometimes refuses to "sleep" or "hibernate." Ubuntu doesn't allow "sleep" or "hibernate." The synaptics touchpad is a bit strange in Ubuntu and needs to be "hacked" to enable two-finger scrolling. No word for pinch zoom or other features that are available in Win7.

Overall, if you're not in to tinkering with your OS, just stick to Win7. It's tried and true.

hmmmm i whouldn't say it's that big of a problem, the thing with the mouse pad is as simple as me sending you the right xorg.conf file and you putting it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

besides that ubuntu runs great, really great, i can even make skype video calls out of the box!

only downside is optimus, you can't use the nvidia card under ubuntu unless Nvidia will decide to release some adequate drivers, but unless you want to game in wine the igpu does a great job, compiz, youtube HD and everything.

BTW infinite, don't use ubuntu 64 bit, it's for developers only, there aren't a lot of programs who has no support for 64bit or a crappy one. there's no real need for it in linux, it can hendle more than 3.5GB ram unlike windows.

Right lads, I'm going for a Sager NP 5135 at the minute and I'm looking at the customizable options on xoticpc. Is the FHD display that much of a difference from the HD? Is it actually worth it, that is?

is that just on the 5135 or have you had that issue on other computers. I had that problem on my old Dell, but a reboot fixed the sleep/hibernate issue and I have had no problems since.

@shteren: can you send me the xorg.conf settings for the Synaptec mouse pad? I am curious to see how it differs from the one in FreeBSD that solves all the issues except the thumb-forefinger pinching to zoom. You can find that one here.

Hey I've been thinking about ordering the NP5135 from Xotic for a while now but I dont want to regret the decision seeing as I will be using this laptop for at least 4 years. I will be using it for college and moderate gaming. Should I order it?

4 years... it might not make it because the video card is only a mid range card right now, so in 4 years it will not run any games remotely new at that time.

but if you're the type to play one or few games for a long time, then this would be a pretty good choice in terms of price/spec value.

    Hope that helps

What are the delivery times for the 5135? I understand that it takes a while to make the custom laptop but the site says that it has been shipped.

i can't suspend or hiberbate aswell, i think it has something to do with optimus or switchable gpus... couldn't solve it, though i didn't spend too much time trying cos i don't use that alot, and ubuntu boots fast as it is.

i've attached my xorg.conf to this message, also note that you need to edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and add these lines at the end:
    Code:
    blacklist amd76x_edac
    blacklist vga16fb
    blacklist nouveau
    blacklist rivafb
    blacklist nvidiafb
    blacklist rivatv
this will disable x from trying to use the nvidia gpu, it can't without the proper drivers from nvidia, and those don't exist yet.

No. The screen really flexes. My screen got scratched by the touchpad in less than a week. It is not a laptop to carry around with anything else in the bag.

The battery life is around 2.5 hours new, and is only down hill from there.

The edge is sharp, though not as sharp as a MacBook.

And not all the screens are great. Mine sucks (FHD).

I suggest going with an Alienware M11x, and get an external monitor and keyboard for home.

    Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking over the past month researching laptops and my budget has almost doubled since I first started over a month ago. My current budget is now $1000-1200. As of now, I'm very close to ordering the NP5135 myself. I'm curious to know which warranty choice you made and why. Or is the warranty worth getting?

My other laptop alternative is a customized HP DV6T through Costco. What's holding me back on the HP is the lack of an FHD display. I did see that the Sony Vaio EB series had a FHD option, but for the US market, it appears not to be available when trying to build-to-order a laptop. If you have any other suggestions for FHD laptops at or close to my budget, please let me know...

Anyway, I look forward to your advice and suggestions.

    Thanks in advance!

    -BigWil

asus N53 is a nice choice, it has FHD check at newegg, more or less the same hardware as the np 5135 but defenetly has better speakers, though i don't see why you need to spend 1200$ on the 5135, it shouldn't cost more than 1k with upgrades, it starts at 750!

anywayz, i'm carrying the laptop all the time, every weekend from school to home and back, no scratches, i bought a neoprene sleeve for it on ebay for 6$.

the screen is great, i get 2:40 when watching movies! minimal use with min bright should get you at least 3:15-3:40.

    Guys,

Any success with updating the the driver for GT 425m.

Neither Clevo or Sager have updated the drivers.

Am having major issues running Cuda 3.2 code.

    Any pointer would be helpful...

I had no luck with any of the suggestions in this thread (at one point I got the 260.99 drivers to install but the 425m would never take over)

Then someone posted a file here: Need INF for Clevo B5130m (GT 425M) - LaptopVideo2Go Forums (the one at the bottom) and I was able to update my drivers to 260.99.

I had the stock driver installed and downloaded the driver from Nvidia's site (260.99_notebook_winvista_win7_64bit_international_whql.exe). I let installer run and fail and then replaced the file in the Display.Driver folder.

I had to use the Hardware Manager to update the driver. I browsed to the Display.Driver folder (I don't remember if I selected the modified file or not, I might have, not sure if it matters).

I didn't have to click "Have Disk" or anything and after going through the steps I had the new drivers installed. Haven't tried any newer drivers however.

The screen does flex but I can't make mine touch the keyboard or touchpad. I carry mine in my backpack to and from school, on public transportation and I haven't had any problems.

It is a pretty solid laptop.

My battery lasts around 4 hours with my configuration. I also keep my OS as clean as possible by removing unneeded programs and processes and I also tweaked all of the power settings to provide maximum battery life.

What kind of configuration do you have to get 4 hours?

Well , thanks for the response.

The method does install the new driver "260.99".

    However, optimus does not work.

I was not able to run 3DMark 11.

It says No DX11 card present.

Speaking of video card, does any of you (especially NP5125 owner) I wonder if you your GPU only run @ PCI-E 16x @8x ?

And if you try to read the sensors on the clock, for the first 10 seconds, it shows default/overclock/whatever settings you have, and then later it automatically downclock to 405/324/810 for Core/Memory/Shader
(Yes, I have a 3D game running in the background)

    And here's the sensor reading

When customizing the Sager NP 5135 at xoticpc, there is an option for Windows 7. Does the machine not come with an OS, then? Because I can get a copy of Windows 7 cheaper than what they're offering.

I think when I ordered from SagerNotebook, they don't have the option to ship the notebook without OS, but with special request you can have yours without.

yea don't buy from Sager directly, even the reps told me over the phone, buy from resellers like xoticpc. They're cheaper plus they have their own additional warranty services etc.

of course in your case they have the option at the customization screen to not have OS pre-installed to save some money.

My girlfriend's Dell Inspiron's lid has no flex. She doesn't have to worry about the lid flexing the screen onto the keyboard or trackpad. It couldn't happen with any laptop.

well what i quoted was the part about it being a matter of time and care, and that is true for any laptop, if u dont care for the laptop well enuff then ull have damage and overtime every laptop degrades. i already agreed with u on the lid flex, but it hasnt made a problem for me yet

Thank you! While in Ubuntu before you disabled the nVidia card, was it trying to switch over and using battery life? Is there any way to even tell that? And the performance of the iGPU while using Linux is sufficient to run 1080p video?
Does the xorg.conf file allow for pinch zooming or horizontal scrolling? And if so, do you need a dedicated area of the touchpad?
