it does not shut down the dpug unfortunetly so it does waste battery, but you can shut it off manually at the bios on boot, this setup simply doesn't load any unnecessary drivers so that x will runs good, and yes the igpu can defenetly hendle 1080p, i use vlc it runs smoother than totem.
pinch zooming doesn't work in linux, no idea why, probebly a driver thing, but two finger scrolling works great. i also told it to generate right mouse bottom when i press with two fingers.
-
Sweet. The BSD driver allows three button mouse configuration. Glad to know I am not missing out on pinching by switching to BSD. I have never used pinch zooming so I will not miss anything. I will be dual booting so I really don't want to disable it in BIOS as that is a pain to have to go in there every time I switch. And honestly, the amount of juice it draws is not that much. Just out of curiosity, did you write the script for the xorg.conf?
-
Still unable to get your xorg.conf files to work anymore. It's weird. I've checked to make sure my mouse is event5 and even copied over your entire xorg contents to mine, saved, and rebooted, but still nothing.
-
Reposting my question
Does any of you have similar problem ? -
Sorry to interrupt; is anyone here concerned with the longevity of the keyboard? Lately I've been worried about its finger-grease build up as opposed to other laptop keyboards and worry about their sensitivity dying out. I do wash my hands before, during and after use all the time, and do what I can to keep it clean.
Is there anywhere I could buy replacement keys for the Sager in the future? Or better yet, will Sager make replacement keyboards if I sent it in? -
VZX no idea about that, personally i'm very contempt with the GPU performance, the new NFS hot pursuit works perfectly on FHD, i don't even want to overclock it so i didn't wonder about that X8 X16 thing...
infinite - do you have an external mouse connected when you boot your computer, because i noticed that i somehow confuses x.org and synaptics doesn't work, you need to boot without a mouse connected for it to work.
and ofrouce you need to first install gpointing-device-settings and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics for the synaptics drivers to work in the first place.
calbear96, yeah i know it'sl anoying to have to go to the bios, i couldn't find any other choice, there is an option to turn if off by using a ACPI call but no one can find the right call for the 5125, it's diferent from comp to comp, there's a whole mailing list in ubuntu lunch pad for the issuse with optimus laptops.
and about the script most for it was automaticlly generated by x-org, theres a command to do it, and the part about synaptics i just googled for it and found the right settings that works. -
Why would they die out? Maybe the letters will be taken off / become just black buttons.
-
No external mouse and both gpointing-device-settings and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics are installed.
-
wierd... can you send me your /var/log/xorg.0.log file?
btw make sure the you didn't disable two fingers scrolling in pointing devices settings under system -> preferences. -
And the 5135 has been EoL'ed according to the latest email from sager. However, the 7130 has been put on BIG discount to get them out the door. (This doesn't reek of clearing inventory for sandy bridge does it
). Which is basically the same as the 5135 it just has a 17" screen and doesn't have a fingerprint reader. Otherwise its the same internals. Hit our website below to see the new pricing and configurations while they last.
Also for introductions we are a sager reseller / builder, we normally build from non-branded sager shells to allow us a little better pricing and configuration options, however, sometimes these deals are just too hard to pass up =)

So what does that mean for the 5135? How long before it is totally done? I just ordered mine! Sandy Bridge does not mean a whole for me and this machine. This is my work unit. What will really get me excited and will be my next laptop will be the Haswell microarchitecture with native octal core.
-
If you have already ordered a 5135 then you are good. As we had just ordered a few yesterday too
However, if you would have waited until Monday then the answer might be different.

Any idea what the replacement will be? Similar specs but with Sandy Bridge? I don't really want to wait another month for my computer, but if Sandy Bridge has dual core integrated graphics and no Optimus, it might be worth waiting as i will be running *nix and there is no support for Optimus. Of course there is always the What if question with computers.
-
I finally got my laptop. This thing is fantastic. I love the feel and responsiveness of the keyboard. It doesn't flex for me at all. The screen is beautiful. I haven't really taken it for its paces yet, but I'm really excited.
Are the drivers on the disc that came with my computer the most up to date or should I download new drivers from the sager website?
I can't seem to get optimus to kick on. I ran 3dmark06 and got a score of 1686. Any suggestions? -
No idea what it will be as the only word that we got is "New models in January" if they are just SB parts only or not, don't know. NVIDIA did just throw out a big press release touting all their OEM/ODM design wins when it comes to sandy bridge, so my educated guess is going to be that it will be some flavor of optimus. However, there are probably going to be somewhere between 1.8 and 9.9 bazillion laptops announced on or after 1/5/2011 with sandy bridge, so I'm sure something will fit in just fine for you.

try new driver and some modded .INF from laptopvideo2go.com
when you ordered this laptop? I'm just wondering how long it takes to be in production.
Seems we don't have discount for 5135. wonder why.
Sandy bridge doesn't sound like a huge upgrade from Nehalem -
MYTHLOGIC :: Pollux | Mobile Gamer
this is what you sell as 5135? in the pictures it looks like it, but sais the gpu is nvidia 460?! how can that be? i thought you can't replace the gpu in it. -
I ordered from xotic about 3 weeks ago. Payment took a while to clear but if you went with a money order, you could speed things along dramatically. Production took about 7 days and shipping took 4.
I'll look into the driver situation. -
Thats a different machine the Sager 8690 / Clevo W860CU
-
Anyone else having abnormally high battery wear levels?
My old battery had 13% wear two weeks after I got my NP5135, so I RMAd it.
Then I just got my new battery yesterday and it went form 0% to 5.5% today, ?
I bought my NP5135 and both them and Sager have been very good with customer service with the RMA and tech support so far. -
hmm, mines stayed at 5% for the entire time ive had the laptop
-
well, not the same case here, i got two batteries, one came at 93.8% i.e. 6.2 and stayed there, though i haven't used it a lot, but the other one came with 95% and dropped to 92% after a month and half, i RMAed it.
lets see how it gets back...
it is quite disturbing.
BTW i wonder if a 9 cell battery will ever be made for it...
i noticed my first battery dropped the extra 3% when i used it till the laptop shut itself down, mybe it's not good? in cell-phones thats the way to do it... -
well idk if thats the cause but letting ur battery drain all the way till ur system shuts down typically isnt good
-
Thanks for the info. my 5135 is in production status for 3 days. hopefullly i can get it before christmas!
edit: NVIDIA seems will release new Optimus driver next week. So let's see. -
So I'm officially pissed with this laptop.
It arrived with a dark spot on the screen and a battery that went form 0-13% wear in about two weeks.
Then after the RMA, I get a screen that has a stuck pixel and a battery that dropped from 0-5% wear in one day. In addition to that my screen brightness can no longer be adjusted in the system or with the hotkeys.
Sager/XOTIC is going on here? -
This doesn't sound encouraging for my new NP5135
or you can check your LCD panel DeviceID so we know who's the manufacturer. -
why is that? its not like every person uve seen post here is having those same problems...
-
Let me know how and I'll be more then happy to give you that info.
-
My NP5135 is on its way too. Although I know that people who are having problems with whatever they ordered tend to post more than people who are having absolutely no problems, I am a little concerned about the build quality (especially the screen), fan noise, optimus, etc. after reading through most of this thread. I'll keep my fingers crossed I guess.

If you have windows you can go into the Device manager and click on the screen tab and it will give you manufacturer and model. If you are using *Nix, go to a terminal screen and enter: sudo lshw
This will give you a full list of all your components. -
basically you go to device manager,
goto Monitors,
right-click on the Generic PnP Monitor.
The property window will pop up.
click the Details tab on the top
choose Hardware Ids below the Property
There you can see who manufactured your LCD Panel.
e.g., my HP HDX16t 1080p LCD Panel has this Hardware ID:
MONITOR\SEC314D
the SEC314D means it's manufactured by Samsung. -
MONITOR\HSD06A5
I have the 1080 config. And uninstalling the teamviewer driver for my monitors fixed my ability to dim the screen. -
Wow, the NP5135 isn't being offered anymore from most Sager retailers.
I'll be quite pissed if this gets updated to a better version, NP5145(?). -
According to Mythlogic it is being cleared to make way for Sandy Bridge laptops, though they will be more expensive and I don't really think until the Extreme versions are released later next year that they are that much better than the current chips, except maybe the addition of dual core graphics. For me, this 5135 will be fine for work. In a couple years I will buy a gaming laptop/ personal use lappy with the Haswell microarchitecture. 22nm and native octal cores. Woohoo!!

Is there any trick to removing the hard drive? I opened the bay up but was reluctant to remove the HD because it seems you have to tilt the HD quite a bit to pull it out; I don't want to break anything.
I'm still trying to figure out what makes my laptop vibrate so much. For some reason it stops vibrating when I elevate one end, tilting the entire laptop. I'm guessing it's the fan or HD.
Other than the vibrating, my HD makes a strange noise when it is idle. It reminds me of the noise a rotary telephone makes when dialing a number, after you pull your finger out and let it spin back into position. I never hear the noise when I have uTorrent running, so it may be some Win 7 process that turns on when the HD is idle. It's driving me crazy and making me ponder a SSD purchase, not for performance but for quietness.
I'm also curious what temps people are getting for their HD or SSD. -
Hard drive removal procedure should be in the user manual, if not then the service manual is in my sig.
-
Awesome, I will be using that as soon as I get my 5135 because I am installing my own RAM and SSD. Went with my own RAM after hearing some not great things about the quality Sager uses. I went with GSkill 1333MHz Ripjaw RAM. 1333 was the same price as 1066 on newegg so I went with the 1333MHz and it will just downclock. Any hints as I have never installed an SSD or RAM on a laptop, only desktop.
-
My NP5135 arrived today!!
First Impression:
Build quality quite average.
Optimus is a mess. -
RAM is pretty standard on this laptop, just open the bottom and its right there in the middle of the board, really easy to get out, just press the little latch on its side and the sticks pop up and u simply pull them out like any RAM
-
Ordered a NP5135 in mid-November, and received it 2 days ago.
Impressions: fast! I'm pretty impressed with the i5. I would say that for all practical purposes and day-to-day stuff like opening programs, installing programs, opening folders, etc, this notebook is as fast as my NP8690. Build quality is also really great for the price range (<$1000).
However, xoticpc stopped carrying this model. Someone on the forums there mentioned that Sager is apparently discontinuing this model.
Anyone have any idea why? I know we should expect our computers to go out of date in short periods of time, but it being discontinued as soon as I order it (and just a few months after its release) is quite disconcerting...I just want to know if there're any serious issues or long term problems with this model so I can return it before my return deadline is up. -
Thanks for the advice.
@Kingtz: Form what I have heard, they are just making way for Sandy Bridge notebooks. I ordered the computer and it was off the site two days later so I know how you feel. Unfortunately for me i have a custom skin on it so I can't return it.
-
ye no problem.
-
what company is AUO24EC? that what my monitor is
-
its AU Optronics. Subsidiary of BenQ Corporation.
-
by the way, my NP5135 has the same HSD06A5 LCD Panel.
Manufactured by HannStar Display Corporation -
hmm after sending in my 5125 for RMA, i just checked the control panel out of a fluke and it says i have 6 days to activate windows but when i click activate it says the product key is invalid for activation...? did replacing my mobo cause windows to be invalid? if so what can i do about this because Sager/XoticPC should 100% be covering this...
-
call MS for activation. tell them u replaced mobo and sager/xotic pc is the manufacurer
-
I have the same problems. And I've had every NP5135 battery have the same problems.
-
i didnt say nobody has it... i just said u can clearly see that the majority does not have the problem.
-
Hey all, new to this thread. Wish I had found this page before I bought my 5135 a few weeks ago.
I got the i7 from xotic pc. shipped out very quick.
8 Gigs of ram,
500 GB HD
1366 x 768 screen
anything else I'm missing?
This is my first laptop, and first new computer I've bought for myself in 10 years. I've been getting hand me down computers , throwing linux on them, and getting by for email and surfing. Doing more taxing graphics work at work and school. (adobe suite, video editing/rendering)
strangely enough I needed a laptop that could do it all except for gaming: I was in a hurry to get a new laptop, and spent about 10 hours researching the market. This one seemed like the best bang for the buck. My big focus is the Adobe suite, and doing video, I'm sure there were more appropriate rigs out there, but for around 1000 bucks (bought this without WIN7 installed) I couldn't find a better deal elsewhere.
Really happy with the asthetics, love the barebones look of it, Kinda want to peel off the sager sticker on the front, (friend suggested rearranging the letters to say "sega") I agree it's not totally rock solid, and I baby it a bit, but the value is still a no brainer...I wasn't ready to drop 4,000 on a similarly equipped thinkpad, or whatever the corporate tough type laptops are called.
Anyways, got the lower res screen 13??x7?? and I'm happy with it. I can plug it into a higher res screen at home, and that works fine, the VGA to my 42" HDTV with 1080p runs great, (am i stupid to think i don't need an HDMI cable?) netflix streams beautifully in HD, (which was a nother need of mine, i've been paying for netflix and up untill now I haven't been able to watch HD streaming.)
got pretty geeky when I first got it and tried to micromanage my power settings, did the whole batter discharge and recharge as recommended per the manual untill I read so many conflicting arguments on the matter that I just threw my hands up and decided not to spend anoter minute worrying about it, and just replace the battery when it dies. sounds like If I stress out for 1 hour a day on my battery I'll be able to milk a nother few weeks of life out of it, not worth the worry in my opinion.
That being said, I'm still interested in downloading some really good monitoring/logging software. I've downloaded coretemp, and that seems good, but only shows 2 cores, and not the gpu temps. I downloaded batterybar, speedfan (although that doesn't give me any fan settings)
mobimeter doesn't work.
does anyone have any good monitoring recommendations? I would like all 4 cores, gpu temp, and cpu load...and logging overtime would be great.
Has anyone upgraded their fan? I'm really interested in keeping the laptop as cool as possible, for no other reason that I'm OCD. i'm getting under 50c for the 2 cores that show up in the CORETEMP software.
At first my GPU wasn't working well (only game is play is minecraft) and it was terrible looking and slow (must have been running of the igpu) for whatever reason, it started working, and the few nvidia tech demos i downloaded started looking and running amazing, minecraft is supersmooth and pretty.
don't know what happened there.
I've tried running 3dmark11 but I get the same error that someone else on this thread found, it says my system doesn't support dx11 or something. Any idea what that is?
anyways, sorry for the long post, really like the sager, really like xotic PC. kinda wish I spent more money for a more rock solid feeling machine, but I would have easily gotten out of my pricerange at that price. I like to think of this machine like a budget hightech racecar, fast, light and ugly looking...not a mercades benz.
Don't have much to compare this too, but i've been really happy,
