Hi,
sounds like you have a really nice laptop, I have a 7130 and really like it also, it's the same as the 5135 but has a bigger screen. I got the same error that you did when I tried to run 3dmark11. For me to be able to run it I changed the power settings in the control panel, I put it on balanced instead of UMA, and the VGA button should be orange.
As for only getting temperatures on two cpu cores, if I'm not mistaken, the i7 cpu for the 5135 is dual core.
-
-
You are not mistaken. The i7 640M is a dual core chip. The next one up has the moniker of QM which is quad core. The dual core chip supports multi threading which gives two more virtual cores, but as they are virtual there is no corresponding temp. Unless I am totally wrong. lol
-
Alright.. I've got some major problems with my 5135 right now. For some reason, my i5-560M decided it only wanted to have 1 core and 1 thread. It's too late to call Sager so I'll probably have to wait until day after Christmas (unless they're open today?).
On a side note, has anybody gotten non-Sager video drivers to work with the green/orange lights and Optimus? I tried the 260.99 with the .inf someone posted.. but it stays on the integrated card for some reason. -
I have tried multiple methods and driver versions, doesn't seem to work.
-
Thanks for clearing up that core issue. I thought all the i7's were 4 cores. Is there a big difference between having 4 cores and 2 cores that are threaded?
I noticed in another core temp monitor gadget I downloaded, that it showed 4 different cores, but core 1 and 2 had the same temperature, and core 3 and 4 had the same temp too.
Got that 3Dmark11 problem fixed, don't know what I did differently. It recognized that I have DX 11 installed, and ran fine. I got terrible FPS though in all the tests. I think I had a score in the 3000's?
Core temp has been a great program for monitoring the hear far, sticking with it, love the logging plugin. -
As far as the i7-QM chips, they have 4 cores and 8 threads (2 threads per core) whereas the i7-640m has 2 cores and 4 threads. The QM chips can handle more things at one time and usually cause a laptop to run warmer than with a dual-core cpu.
Your temperature-monitoring program is reading core 1/2 at the same temperature because core 2 is a virtual core (same with core 4). You see 4 "cores" because your cpu has 4 threads. Two physical cores and two virtual cores = 4. At least... this is what I think. ^^ -
Anyone replace their optical disk drive with a second HD? Is doing so difficult? I read that Mark121 did, but I think he sold his np5135. I'm thinking of buying this caddy:
2nd HDD Caddy for Clevo W860 / W860CU, also works with SSD [OBHD-SATA12-SATA-BU] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks. -

Once again proving that Optimus is a disaster. I wish Nvidia would just scrap the whole thing.
-
I'm using the official Sager driver with updated Intel HD driver from Intel website.
Everything works perfectly except ONLY punkbuster.
Luckily I only have one game with punkbuster: BFBC2 -
Am waiting for 265.x driver release for nvidia 425m ..
-
What is new about that one? Or is it that it includes the 425M? Maybe one day it will have support for Linux.
-
well i don't know, but optimus works great with the 330m on 5125, mybe it's locally a 425m problems, except the PB thing ofcourse.
i'm actually very happy with it, i can use the igpu for 3.5 when i on trains and such, without optimus it whouldn't be possible to have a laptop with the 330m which is a good card and such good battery life... -
ye i like optimus minus the PB issue and the occasional game incompatibility (graphics dont switch), overall good tho.
-
Which Driver Version are you folks using ?
-
not entirely sure, but their the newest ones on the Sager driver site for the NP5125
-
Sager provides driver version 259.39, this works without any issues with optimus.
We are talking about upgrading to 260.xx driver versions
-
i use the 260.99 but as said before, it installs right with no mods on the 5125, the 5135 is more complicated.
-
my comment was meant more towards whoever said that optimus should be scrapped
-
Got it
Thanks for clarifying
I hope Fermi gets better support in future. -
When you installed the modded drivers did you install over the .59 drivers? or a clean install?
-
I tried both ways. None work.
-
It seems the 5135 is having issues with the drivers in Optimus but not the 5125 and since I use *nix way more than Windows, it eliminates the ability to use the dGPU. I wish there were a way to disable the iGPU, but I know that Optimus uses the iGPU even when the dGPU is used. The fact that there is no support is really lame. Especially when, as I have said before, most users of Linus have been ardent supporters of nvidia as they have always provided better support for their graphics cards that ATI. It just seems that this tech was released too soon as there are lots of issues with it as can be seen on the Nvidia forums. And here. I am glad for those that it works for without issues. I chose this model for battery life and honestly the price point. I will use this one mainly for work and movies and the occasional game. Movies and games will be on the W7 partition when I am not online, and everything else will use *nix. I honestly hope Nvidia rethinks their no support for *nix position in the near future. My next "fun" laptop will definitely not have Optimus as I want to be able to play games and everything without having to switch over to MSW. In fact that computer won't even have MSW on it. lol
-
When Huron River is launched (next week) every mobile Intel CPU will have an IGP, so it won't be long before every mobile Nvidia GPU uses Optimus. We can only hope that notebook manufacturers will wise up and connect the the dGPU to both the IGP and directly to the display, so users will have the choice to use only the dGPU. Or that Nvidia will completely change the design of Optimus, but that's not likely. Software fixes for Linux seem a long way away; but PunkBuster should be fixed sometime soon if Nvidia/PB/game developers don't want to lose business.
-
I am patient and can wait until Haswell microarchitecture comes out or even Ivy Bridge and then get a desktop processor for my laptop. Along the lines of the x7200. And if Haswell hass the specs that are rumored, the graphics processing power of the iGPU will be plenty for much of what I want. And ATI is really catching up to nvidia as far as support for *nix. I truly hope that as you say, notebook manufacturers wise up and give their buying public a little bit more control over the products we buy. Even if they do not change the design of Optimus, giving us a driver that works for Linux and BSD should be on the agenda. I think they will lose a profitable segment of buyers if they continue down this path and ATI continues to make the strides to overtake.
-
hardware muxes will be needed if both are physically connected to the display which I doubt anyone will do this.
the best hope is frequent driver update. -
Hey guys, i just uploaded the latest driver for the 425m gt on rapidshare.
The driver's from the german reseller mysn and works quiet smooth with my 5130m. Hardware switch,LEDs and everything else work too.
Driver Version: 265_99
Here's the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/440575029/vga_64bit_265_99.rar
Have fun guys, greetings from Germany

Thanks for the driver!
WHQL signed for Clevo's geforce 425m!
3DMark11 bug is gone, now just to test punkbuster. -

CUDA 3.2 works !!!
Direct3D 9/10/11 works with dgpu !!!
Thanks Showtime91 for posting this & mysn for updating the drivers for Clevo :-D -
You're most welcome
-
266.35 BETA is available from nvidia and it installs without mods
-
just installed that...pretty smooth so far.
-
btw the pci-Express is 8x, is it a limitation of the board, the bios, the drivers?
is there a way to put it in 16x ? -
Does the new driver work with Punkbuster?
-
pci-e 2.0 8x still has far enough bandwith for the 425gt.
so it doesnt matter at all, dont worry! -
ohh cool fn+4 works in linux too, it stops the fan
-
Beta 266.35 installed fine on B5130M and the PB issue is now gone, hurrah! (tested only with MW2 so far though)
-
Just in case anyone is curious.
-
DAMNIT!!!!!! lol Mine hasn't even shipped yet!!
-
Good to know I'm not the only one in this situation.
I'm probably getting my NP5135 tmr though, and I thought about getting it replaced with one of the new ones but since I have to pay for shipping back and forth again I just thought it wasn't worth the money/hassle. -
Mine just shipped. And I had a custom skin on it so I would have a hefty restocking fee. Plus I really don't want to wait another month for my computer. We could play that game indefinitely. Plus I went with the i7 640M so the Sandy Bridge cpu's are not that more advanced and this is for work not fun so I am ok. Though I did notice that the new computers have matte screens which would be very nice to have as i hear reflections are a bit of a problem on these computers especially out of doors. Plus the new computers, while having better battery are pricier as well. My next laptop for ME and games etc. will be after Ivy Bridge when I can have a beast with good battery.
-
Yup, sounds like a good plan. I also really want the matte screens too because I'm so used to those and it's so hard to get a decent laptop with a matte screen these days!
-
I know. I have an old Dell now and the screen is pretty darn good and matte. It will be tough to get accustomed to the new gloosy but my gf has a glossy and it's not too bad. Plus I'll be mainly indoors, so it's ok. I read some reviews of SB and they actually sound quite a bit better especially the iGPU, which is important when running an OS that lacks Optimus support which is all of them except Windoze. But for me for now it is overkill. In two years, we'll be approaching 128 bit chips and octal core and these laptops will seem stone age. lol
-
The glossy screen isn't so bad. I also came from a Dell Inspiron E1505 with a matte screen with absolutely no reflections, but the screen was dim and had no contrast compared to the FHD screen of the NP5125.
In short, you'll be satisfied with the screen. -
Cool. Yeah I have a Latitude D820 and there is no contrast and I always have brightness at max even when it is dark as the screen is so dim.
-
I can confirm the new beta driver from nvidia now works with Punkbuster. I have been in Bad Company 2 for an hour with no issues.
-
I just got the laptop today! It is such a beautiful machine. The screen is especially mesmerizing. Luckily, no dead pixels or any other problems for that matter. Seems like I have to turn on wireless every time I boot Windows, but I'm sure there is something I'm missing so it seems fixable. Also, the greatest part is that I didn't pay any taxes for this thing! After spending 3 days in Customs I would have expected to pay a hefty tax, but nope, no tax. Really happy with this purchase despite the new Sandy Bridge laptops replacing these.

I am having a very very big problem... I have used my HDMI port maybe 20 times in the last month and all of a sudden, it just stopped working. I tried my vga port and it worked fine, i tested the HDMI cable from my PS3 to the same TV & Monitor I was trying to get my laptop to work on (mind you I have gotten it to work every other time in the past I hooked it up) but now it is not detected. I have the Sager NP5125.. I have had this laptop a little over 4 months and I am extremely angry that this just happened. I have not mis treated this laptop in any way, treated it with care so it would have no reason to stop working all of a sudden. Has this happened to anyone else and knows how to fix it? Maybe reinstalling graphics drivers, or... updating them or something? I honestly believe that it will do nothing as the VGA cable port works fine so why wouldn't the HDMI. Please Please Please!!!!! help me because my stomach is in a knot at the though of having to send my laptop in. I design websites for a living and work off of my laptop.. It would KILL me if I had to send it in. Please someone help with any input or ideas, ANYTHING is appreciated.
Thank you so much!

I have the NP5125 and the drivers installed great and everything, but I ran windows performance after it was installed and all that changed was I recieved a lower score (4.6 -> 4.5) in the "Graphics - desktop performance for Windows Aero. Is it even worth it to keep these drivers on? I mean although the stupid windows score is lower, will it result in better gaming results? Like is that proven on the updated drivers from those on the Sager website? Any input would be appreciated.
-
That is awesome!! Congrats. Mine left Colorado last night and I hope that driver drove through the night and arrives in Vegas sometime today, so I get it tomorrow. I can't wait until Friday!!!
