Just learned today that the Clevo B5130M was offered with a matte screen from mysn.de. Review of the mySN XMG A500 :
Review Clevo B5130M / mySN XMG A500 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
I know Kobalt offers a 1600x900 res B5130M, but Kobalt's screen is glossy. I wonder which company makes the matte screen.
And here's a review of the 1920x1080 res screen on the Sager np5125/np5135:
AVADirect's Clevo B5130M: GeForce GT 425M with a 15.6" 1080p Chaser - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -
Thanks for the link. Interesting review. I am still glad I ordered it over the Dell XPS 15.
-
Wow, finally a hassle-free installation. And the GPU lights work even with a completely clean installation.
-
Actually had to RMA my Sager NP5125 because of my HDMI port no longer working.. Ugh.. 2 weeks without my laptop here we go... It is so inconvenient having to ship it from New York to California whenever there is an issue..
-
I have the NP5125 and the drivers installed great and everything, but I ran windows performance after it was installed and all that changed was I recieved a lower score (4.6 -> 4.5) in the "Graphics - desktop performance for Windows Aero. Is it even worth it to keep these drivers on? I mean although the stupid windows score is lower, will it result in better gaming results? Like is that proven on the updated drivers from those on the Sager website? Any input would be appreciated.
-
the graphics - desktop score is the score in windows not game, and it is actualy the intel integrated board doing it
for the games, this driver is way more stable than the previous one, and Optimus is supposed to work better
so yes it is worth it -
anyone know wen its gunna be out of beta? i dont like using beta drivers
-
Even with the newer beta drivers, I still can't get the nvidia card to kick on when watching Netflix via Firefox.
-
does netflix use flash?
-
no, it uses silverlight right now. Eventually it will use html5 standards so probably x264.
-
ah, well does silverlight support hardware acceleration? if not then ur probly out of luck, flash has an option for hardware acceleration which does use the dedicated card
-
Even if Flash is required, you can use Firefox. You can download it into Firefox... not sure how to in Windows but I did it in Ubuntu and it works great... movies and with Acro 9 finally PDF files opening in browser.
-
i was only asking if it used flash because i know flash supports hardware acceleration, so then if it did then it wuld mean ther was something wrong, since its not using flash and idk if silverlight has hardware acceleration support then thers not much that can be done (if it doesnt)
-
Ahh, gotcha. Sorry about that. Does the 5135 have EFI BIOS? Does anyone know if it supports gpart?
-
Kinda, its a Pheonix SecureCore BIOS, so it has an EFI structure, however, it won't boot a UEFI bootloader, unless in a future update they turn that feature on. It appears (unconfirmed) that the new SNB line of sager/clevo's are using AMI Aptio which is a EFI BIOS again, and hopefully there they should turn on UEFI boot as its on by default on Aptio but off by default in SecureCore. GParted should work fine as its a standard intel HM55 board so the controllers and everything else are bog standard.

Thank you!

I had the opportunity to test two different WXGA++ panels on the B5130M. One was from CMO (N15606-L01) and the other one was from AUO (can't remember the exact model label anymore but it most certainly was B156RW01 **).
My personal impression is that both panels offer high quality regarding brightness, illumination uniformity, black level etc.. However, considering the overall performance of both displays the CMO sample recieves only a subpar rating from me because it tremendously failed in being capable of proper dithering. To illustrate it briefly some colour transitions, especially grey to black, showed a strange rasterisation behaviour (imagine dithering of only 2 different colours). At first I actually thought of it as a manufacturing error but after some feedback of external sources I was told that this is obviously just a not so uncommon indicator of poor quality.
Of course I won't generalize here, my CMO sample could very well be taken from a bad batch, but if I ever get such a panel again I would surely return it within seconds because in my opinion such faulty dithering capability should not be accepted by consumers. -
SWEET!! Just got the laptop in and it is nice. The screen is flexy but less than my gf's Compaq. More updates to follow.

Please disregard this message. I quoted the wrong post.
-
Do you need to do a clean install or can you install over the given Sager drivers?
-
don't use these, you have now nvidia 266.35 (in beta but it is safe)
that aren't tweaked so it is better -
where can i download those beta drivers for the NP5125?
-
you go to nvidia website, the download drivers, then beta and archived
then you select your system and graphic card (gt 425M)
you press the button and you ll have it in the list -
so it doesnt have to be special drivers specifically for optimus?
-
Some users claim 4 hours, but I get about 2.5.

Hello everyone.
I finally got my Sager NP5135, and I have some questions.
I have the Momentus XT hybrid SSD (model ST95005620AS), and I noticed that I have the SD23 firmware. I tried upgrading to SD24, but when the laptop reboots, I get the Seagate update tool, it tells me not to interrupt the process, then it detects my drive (writes its model and serial number on the screen) then nothing happens. I waited 10 minutes, rebooted, and the drive worked fine, but I still had the SD23 firmware. I tried doing this two times with the same result. Any suggestions?
Another question is this: when I am running on battery, Windows 7 displays the remaining battery in percentage, not in hours (I get "88% remaining" instead of "2H30m remaining"). Is this the same for you? I came across a thread that discusses the same thing, but somebody replied that is does show the remaining time ( Sager NP5135 - XOTICPC Forums). I mention that I installed all the drivers from the DVD I got with my laptop. -
I have a question, my optical drive doesn't recognize discs, it's on and the light works, and it opens but no metter what disc i insert it doesn't recognize it, happend to anyone? it did work when i got the laptop, i used it to install all the drivers...
it's the same with all 5125/5135 owners, i have no idea why that is, i saw on many other laptop that it displays the remaining time, but for us it doesn't i asked sager about it and they said "they never heard of a computer displaying the time left"
either way there is a very nice proggy called BatteryBar, try it, it's free and it shows the time very accurately, also display an assumed consumption in Watts. -
when you select the drivers for laptop (Verde) they have Optimus inside, and Optimus is installed when the hardware is found, so they are special drivers for Optimus
-
o ok, thanks
does anyone know if updating the intel drivers are worth while for the integrated graphics? windows update is offering my an intel update and im wondering if doing that update will break optimus or is it fine? -
I did that update, and it didn't break anything. Optimus still works fine.
-
ok, thanks for the feedback, do u know what that intel graphics update offers? any improvements?
-
Not anything too major, the only differences are there were a couple DXVA bugs fixed (DirectX Video Acceleration) and then some behind the scenes updates about LVDS chips, and I'm sure there were a slew of other unpublished bug fixes, so nothing I would worry too much about.
-
alright thank you, well i figure long as it doesnt break optimus i might as well install the intel graphics update from windows update and then install the new beta nvidia drivers
-
i have a question about optimus working with Opera browser, does anyone use Opera with this laptop? cuz Optimus doesnt seem to be detecting Opera on its own like it does IE and Firefox so that flash can use hardware acceleration
-
I am pretty happy with this laptop. Aside from the fan it is utterly silent. Kind of weird; was not sure anything was happening without the usual hum of a tradition HDD. This computer is fast. I am updating 403 ports and it is flying through them.
@Firzen- Are you using Opera in Win 7? -
yes i am using Opera with win7
-
I also use Opera with the laptop, but I haven't tried watching a Flash video using Optimus yet. I will try it tonight.
EDIT:
I have tried, and playing a youtube clip in Opera does not cause Optimus to auto-switch to the nVidia video card. I have tried clips in 360p and 720p videos.
If I right-click and run Opera with the nVidia card, then it will switch to the nVidia card when playing any youtube video.
I have the original drivers from the DVD I got with my laptop. -
Looks like he answered your question. Now for all you Linux/Unix users out there, I am having serious issues with X11/Xorg. It is recognizing 2 screens/devices, one the Intel card and the other the nVidia. IT is unable to choose the primary device, and it also says it is not a PCI device. Can anyone who is successfully running Xorg post the Xorg.conf file for me.
Many thanks. -
Hey I don't have an XOrg config on hand, however, when I booted up with Ubuntu 10.10 and let it do its thing to auto-detect it built a config that used the Intel iGPU just fine it detected the nvidia gpu but couldn't use it so it just punted and used whatever the built in xorg intel driver is (didn't use VESA used something else), but I know it worked.
-
Based on my experience,
cuda 3.0 works on Ubuntu 10.10 on my Sager 5130 which has 425M + Intel HD
However,
Opengl based applications do not work, as 425m is not being used as the Display Card.
The reason is your LCD is connected to iGPU and not dGPU. -
Thanks for the help. I am not using Linux, but FreeBSD and the autodetect is stalling out because it detects both cards and has drivers for both. If ayone can print the X-org.conf file that Ubunutu came up with I can tweak it to fit FreeBSD and my computer. THe fact that linux can use a hybrid laptop gives me hope that FreeBSD can too. Otherwise it is back to Ubunutu.
-
look back in the forum, i gave a link to my xorg.conf file.
it also require to blacklist some modules so that nvidia or nouvue won't even try to load, it's futile. -
Thanks, I will try to find it. I deleted the nVidia driver so it does not even try to load. The issue I am having is that it is detecting both the Intel and NVidia cards as possible primary devices. How do you select which it looks at?
EDIT: Found it. Thanks. -
Getting rid of all traces of nVidia off the partition did the trick. I was able to load X and run KDE. For anyone who is running FreeBSD and needs the configuration that works, here it is.

My only issue is using the vesa driver and so far I am only able to get 1280x1024 out of it. KDE does not even register 1920x1080 -

Argh. I am having to abandon FreeBSD as the legcy driver I found that allows support for Intel GMA HD does ot allow acceleration of any kind. Kind of a waste of the hardware IMO. So I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 an I get things partitioned on a custom layout and using btrfs and I get to the user info and the status bar say "Ready when you are" but I cannot hit the "Forward button". And in the messages it says the Intel ips has exceeded thermal limits. ? Wondering if I should go back to 10.04 and get it installed then just upgrade and disable the log for that error as I have read it is quite a problem. Or is my hardware just screwed?
LMAO. Linux does not allow Capital lettered user names, unlike BSD. -
any changes between beta and this final version?
-
I just did the install of Ubunutu 10.10 x64 and I don't seem to have an xorg.conf file. Any ideas?
-
Ubuntu 10.10 does not come with xorg.conf
By default it will load intel driver.
