Merry Christmas EVERYONE!!!!
I don't have the Intel Matrix Storage Manager on my computer. I have a new W870CU with an i7 CPU running Win7 with two X-25M 160 GB SSD in RAID0. The manual on the disk refers to using the Intel Matrix Storage Manager to provide information on the RAID status but the Intel Manager is not installed on the computer nor is it on the supplied CD? Do I need this or not?

I don't know if you "need" it, but you can get it from the support section of the Sager website:
http://74.212.252.103/pages/notebooks/download.cfm?ProductType=8760
Does anyone have release notes for the BIOS update? Will it preserve my RAID-0? -
Well,
2 times when playing halo, mostly maxed out on settings, and oc x4 cpu, BSOD...does not happen when I run standard or x2 so far. Something about one of the cores not responding quick enough or something, will write it down next time. Was thinking of a small oc on the card, but rivatuner says my clocks are
200 core
400 shader
120 memory
That does not match up with what I see others running, can someone explain why? Is there a multiplier involved? Don't usually mess with the card.
Thanks -
i havent tried installing rivatuner on my notebook yet but i think the cre/shader/memory you listed is for the 2d settings. you could switch to 3d setting by choosing it froma tab in the upper right.
cheers -
Thanks,
I switched to 3D, and settings are
383
767
301
Still not matching what others say, 600/1600 ish etc.
Thanks
-
there are 2 settings in 3d.
low power 3d and performance 3d
it could be that your in low power 3d, check the tabs again
also you could be using an older version of rivatuner -
Thanks!! Any idea what's fixed or changed?
Also, I have NEVER seen a machine SO EASY to multitask on!! Jeezus, I run batch actions in photoshop on a TON of photos, browse huge folders of images, download a ton of crap in he background, etc -- NOT a single hickup or wait. I know the SSDs help a lot, but man this thing is a WORKHORSE!!
Love it to death!
(ps. if you ever install Adobe CS4 and have an issue with color profiles causing the installer to fail, just give up and rollback the OS - I wasted two days trying to fix the problem -- no go) -
That's really good the hear! I ordered one with a 160GB SSD for the root drive and a 640GB second drive.
-
Dalantech - that sucker will SMOKE apps like nothing - my home machine is a Q6600 overclocked and this beats it.... gotta love eight cores showing up when rendering in max
Simply love the machine -- best PC purchase decision in years.
-
Thanks for that my friend -really appreciate it! I do a lot of image editing and I like to watch movies on my laptop. If you're looking for wallpaper check out my gallery -all the images are free for non-commercial use: www.johnkimbler.com

work this update on all W870Cu including my MySn or only on the Sager book?
changelog would be nice -
Great stuff!!! Thanks!! Photoshop just rocks on this machine -- I threw a couple hundred meg TIFF at it for kicks -- no problems at all. The display is gorgeous -- HD movies (either bluray or rips) are wonderful. You wont be disappointed!
Make DAMN sure you install CS4 early in your setup! I had an issue with color profiles locked by the system at one point and it cost me two full days of setup!!!!! Could NOT be fixed and I'm an uber-geek at these kinds of problems..... trust me. -
I use Photoshop Elements but just in case I'll load it first -thanks!
-
yeah, the bios update works on the mySN
Now he does have a Sager boot screen but no matter .... -
Is it possible to dim or turn off the lights for the hot keys and the indicator lights? When playing movies in a dark room or playing a game in a dark room, these lights are very bright for me and distracting. I can disable the wireless network which shuts off that indicator LED but that does not work when I need the internet. It would be nice to just shut off the lights. I am OK with disabling the hotkey buttons completely if that will turn off the LED's, but I dont even see that option in the BIOS. The lights start on even without an operating system during startup, so I had hoped it would have been in the BIOS. I considered electrical tape, but I really don't want to go too tacky on this new beast.
I tried to search through these forums for anything about this, but I can't and assume I don't have the authority to do that at this time.
Thanks for your help in advance. -
I'm not using them myself. I haven't tested them, so I have no idea if they increase performance, but someone mentioned a while back they ran HDTune with and without the storage matrix drivers, and there was no gain in performance. I see no reason for for them to be installed, but I'm certainly not a RAID expert.

Has anybody else noticed the RIDICULOUSLY low recording levels on the built-in mic? I trashed the Realtek drivers yesterday to finally get audio out over HDMI. Not pleased at all with audio on this box
Yes, I have external speakers, yes I have headset mic, but my wife's macbook does 10x better than this thing....
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
My mic levels are fairly receptive for me. I have no problem playing back recorded voice with only a 10dB gain. Then again, this is with the Realtek audio drivers.
-
I think that's the difference -- I will test when I return to Shanghai.
Also, with the Sager video drivers I get Blu-ray but my 3D performance in Max is bad ('choppy')-- seems the latest Nvidia drivers perform much better, but no Blu-ray
-
Could be old version, the drivers are not offically supported by RT in my version, 2.24
-
BTW,
Halo 2 on W7 seems to be a problem, read some advice, tried some things, works fine now, not sure what finally made it work...anyway is not a pc problem..plays fine now.
Happy New Year all -
The 8760 is on backorder again. I was sent an email that gave an update to the satus of my order. Writing this as a headsup to anyone thinking of ordering it in the next week or two.
-
Damn, that sucks lw! Where did you order from? I'm sure every reseller is out, I'm just curious.
-
PC Torque. I am in NYC so I figured they would be the best since I get free shipping.
-
are you guys also getting noticeable wear on the plastic of the palmrests? my 8760 has had only light use for the past 2 months, and there are already some shiny worn areas on the palmrests (not just grease; it does not wipe off at all). i've had many other laptops, but the plastic on this sager seems especially prone to this wear, in such a short time.
any non-ugly ways to prevent further shiny spots? -
i have that shiny thing goin on also. but i just wipe it off with the provided cloth. give it a go.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
You should see my keys. They are starting to get a bit shiny. It's all normal in this world. Anyway, your palms should not be resting on the palmrests when you're typing. My palmrests are still matte as the day I got my notebook.
-
My keys are all sticky and I don't drink soda...
-
Yuk,
To much information....
Oh wait, could it be beer?
-
...or he could be typing with one hand...
-
...getting back on topic ...
My trackpad is also showing signs of wear already. I should start using a mouse more often.
Another "fit" issue that I've run into is that the bottom edge of the LCD panel is hitting the perforated top cover piece as I open or close the notebook. It appears that there wasn't enough clearance allowed for that. -
Would I be correct in saying, I wonder, that I am the first person in this country to have an 8760? (Afghanistan)
At over two months from order to receipt, might also have the record for 'the longest wait'?
NTM -
Perhaps,
I did not count, it was tooooooo frustrating.....blank from mind...use the force luke...difficult the past is to see...always in motion from historians changing it...
Hah! Anyway, keep your frigin head down...and enjoy ..
-
whats up with the TV card slot, anyone know of any card to put in there TV or other kind, anybody done any mods? I saw the pic of the heatsink mod, that was impressive.
Ordered mine 12/24
had a hard time choosing between this and the 18.4 sli sager/clevo , went with this because i like the modern style, but still unsure because of the sli gaming thing -
Who did you order from, and was it backordered?
-
Ordered from MALIBAL and there was no indication of backorder and their website today shows approx. shipping dates
-
Unfortunately no reseller is going to advertise they're out of stock, it's just one of those things. Many of us who have our units went through the same back-order problems. It's a Sager/Clevo import issue, not really a reseller issue.
Malibal is very good at getting back to you, I'd just shoot them an email and ask about the back-order. -
Well, I found out mine was back-ordered. But, I will be receiving it straight from Sager to cut down on wait time. I was under the impression that the AS-5 TIM was applied by the reseller though, will I now need to apply it myself?
-
Well i bought one of those vinyl decals for my netbook , no design just a solid color, and im really impressed with the look and feel of them they really adheare to the surface well, if this wearing is a problem i will get solid black for mine and cut them to size of the palm rest before i start using it to much.
for the mouse i would go with zagg invisishield, i have that for my mp3 player and cellphone. its insane, you could also use zagg for the keytops but it would take some time to cut and install them all -
I haven't read of any major heat issues with the 8760. I had the same thought as I had asked xoticpc about this and was told if I wanted the leftover paste I would have to order it from Sager at ... $25... per tube! I said no thank you and plan on buying it from here:
http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/ic-diamond-7-carat-thermal-compound-15-gram-p-16605.html
Big price difference!
Also, you're not alone, I'm on the backorder list as well.
-
what kind of issues should i expect from this laptop w870cu? BSOD ,crashing with win7, audio stuttering , hd failures etc?
I know the np9850 has the stuttering problems and some hdd issues, and it seems the 15 inch version of this laptop has hdd issues.
I just ordered a w870cu and was wondering about what kind of hassle i would have to go through. or is just really to soon to tell what issues this one will have?
Also, have clevo or sager had a good history of issuing fixes? -
So does anyone play World of Warcraft on this system? Does it tear it up?
-
My laptop is on phase 4! Really excited. Still out of the country so I'll get to see it when I get back to Cali.
I'll let you all know what I find.
Afitz, I'll install wow on the rig and let you know what I find. Nevertheless the earliest I could do that would be the last week of january (reason above), so perhaps someone else will have a quicker answer. -
I do, it does pretty well. In Dalaran I'm in the 20s or 30s, though raids can drop into the teens. Might be the addons I'm using, though it feels more like the video card is bogging down with all the spell effects. Honestly it's a little disappointing, I expected it to be 30+ everywhere.
-
Damn that's disappointing and who knows what Catacylsm will bring with its new visuals.
-
Wake up!! This thread is too quiet.
I am still waiting for my beast. -
damn, me is by cleaning the product, the CPU fan (rotor) broke.

I have heard nothing but good things about this machine and I can't wait get get mine. From what I can tell Customer Service is nothing but the best, and the product is terrific. I have scanned this thread and other than short battery life, bad speakers, and a loud fan I have found no common problems. Is there any that I need to be on the lookout for?? Thanks ahead of time.
Oh, and I need to give props to Frank at Sager... He has been nothing but patient and respectful to me... And after my fiacso with Dell which can be found here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=448154 I am nothing but grateful that some companies still have Customer Service Reps who not only care but can speak english!!!

I have had NO problems with win7 x64, no loud fans, no dead pix, no issues not created by the Luser
(ie. software related) Only thing that chaffs my arse is the driver issues with the 280M -- but I believe it's nVidia's fault. The default Sager driver gives me MUCHO choppy 3dsmax performance so that's a buzzkill, and you MUST use the Sager driver to watch Bluray.
Getting off the plane in Shanghai I actually dropped the thing (in it's business basic bag) and had a heart attack, but no issues at all -- I was sure the LCD would be cracked.
Also, I have a NC2000 cooler that I really don't need but it raises and tilts the machine so my eye level with the screen is dam near perfect!
ME = HAPPY!! -
What settings? That seems like a low frame rate.
