Order delivered!
It arrived yesterday afternoon. I am out of the country so won't be able to unveil it until late january but nevertheless I ordered with Xoticpc and they, so far, were really great. Very timely responses and professional.
-
Mine shipped as well with a delivery date of the 11th. I cant wait.

Hopefully I can get some funds together to make any upgrades that I see fit. As far as I have heard, the base CPU also smokes though. I will be happy with it for awhile I am sure.

Just got my bosses approval for this beast, just need to wait a week or so on senior management to give the OK and I will place my order! Cant wait!

Then maybe it's just all the spells flying around during Twins, with all the swirlies and everything else that's going on, if you have a high particle effect set. I'm on a 7900 GS Go, so everything for me is much lower. XD
Oh, and is that Twins 25 or Twins 10? -
I've read lots of reviews and about 92 pages of this thread, but can't find any details on the hinge/screen angle. How far does the hinge open on the W870CU? I want to use it with a coolstand. i.e. open almost 180 degrees.
Also if anyone happens to know the same answer for the W860CU, M860TU and M571TU that would be appreciated!
Looking to upgrade from my Rock CTX Pro (M570u) and after a brief affair with the Envy 15 I'm considering the W870CU...
Thanks,
Mark -
for the w860cu almost all the way, id say 170 deg or a little more
-
870 doesn't open very much at all. Doesn't reach 135 degrees.
-
Thanks for the info on how far it opens. That probably excludes this laptop - pity since it looks really good and I liked the M570u...

I just recieved my 8760. IT ROCKS!!!!!! One thing that is a bit of trouble is when I first turn on the unit. I turn it on and I get two beeps and then it seems to go into a slumber. I can hear the fans and I see the power is on. It comes on and performs great after some time passes. Any ideas?

That's normal. Your OEM probably just shut down the notebook improperly before they packed it. It happens to a number of people that bought the notebook with the OS installed. It's nothing to worry about.
-
Hi All,
So I ordered a 8760 from Novatech (They seem to be running better prices than Kobalt at the moment) on the 31/12 and spoke to Adam yesterday.
Seems final build will take place tomorrow and then ship which I can't wait for (I'm seriously impatient - once I've ordered something I really want it ASAP).
I've gone for standard spec based on i7-720 with:
4gb RAM
2 x 250gb HDs
However having read through both this forum and the np8690 owners forum I still have a pretty basic question.
Is it worth upgrading to the 820 for an additional £144 ($230)?
I am planning primarily to game with the machine (WoW mostly though probably a bit of Need for Speed / GTA and a bit of FPS).
In other reviews I have read the 820 wont make a massive difference (especially as the GFX card will cause bottlenecks).
However..... It appears the common spec on this forum is the 820 and today is the last opportunity I'll have to change if I want to before the machine is built and shipped.
So - in language a Laptop virgin can understand, can anybody give me a compelling reason on why I should shell out the extra cash?
All / any input is appreciated
Edit: Just found BrandonSI's benchmark comparison on a different thread, seems to be the conclusion is for gaming the 820 isnt going to make a massive difference - Can anyone confirm? -

A P8400 would be enough for gaming with the exception of "those" games. The 720QM is enough for your games unless your wallet can justify the extra Benjamins.
-
Thanks Sov - I appreciate the answer
Looks like I'll be sticking with the original order and crossing my fingers it gets here before next weekend! -
-
I just received my new NP8760!!!! I am so happy right now, my head is spinning and I don't know what to do now, lol. AV and Firewall are installed, as well as Firefox. Now I just need to go down the rest of my checklist.
-
Was having stability issues with mine I thought. Windows switched the monitor to turn off after so many minutes. This while running cpu/graphic tests, would cause the monitor to flip on and off for a few seconds and then cause the machine to shut down.
-
Glad to hear you got it sorted, did sound like an odd issue.

The HSD173PUW1 is the HannsStar display correct? This screen is wonderful. The colors seem very strong and crisp and the screen has a nice brightness. I know some folks have the AUO panel and was wondering has anyone seen the panels face to face?
-
Is there a way to request a certain display or is kind of luck of the draw?
-
It's my understanding that the HannsStar was in the early or demo units. My Auo looks absolutely stunning.
-
I have AUO as well. Easily the nicest panel I've ever owned.
-
Has anybody else had a similar problem? Do you think I should be concerned about the small gap? I can take pictures and post them later. -
Max temps were higher than this until I added mx2 paste. This is separately running each: Furmark, Prime 95, and Avast scan. Running Furmark and Prime 95 together will cause either of two things. Switch from the wall power to the battery and back again several times and then shut down, or the system will just quickly shut down without notice. I thought this had something to do with the monitor turning off automatically in windows, but that wasn't the case.
The temps aren't always the same ranging from 85-89 for the gpu, and 76-78 for the cpu. I thought maybe it was a faulty power brick, but I just tried the one I got from ebay and it happens on that one as well. Perhaps something to do with the psu, or something else. Going to write sager in a few. -
I tried different video drivers. Ran some memory tests without any reported errors.
I ran ATITool and scanned for errors. That brought the gpu temp up to 80c. Then ran prime 95. Then ran a cpu error test to see if there were any errors. No errors with the gpu or cpu, being run for about thirty minutes.
Then I turned on Furmark, and this time not even five seconds passed before it started switching over to battery power. Though this time it was slower, not as rapid. It would switch over and then back a second later and so on. I turned off Furmark after it did this a few times and noticed that the battery power was down about ten thousand mWh. I turned Furmark back on and about five seconds later the system shut down completely. I also noticed that whenever it switched over to battery, that the chart for the cpu and gpu temp would drop a few C, before the main power would kick back on.
Probably not going to run any more tests, otherwise risk damaging the unit. Going to send it to sager to get fixed and get my old laptop back until this one comes back to me. -
Mine did the same thing the first time I opened. After a few days, it must have caught the top of the piece even more and pulled it up enough to break it loose. I haven't contact Sager yet to see if they will send me replacement piece or not.

One issue, there is no serial number on the bottom. Had to send a regular email today, will call tomorrow.
-
I believe my laptop has a defective power supply or some voltage issue. As during one test I accidentally opened up the dvd drive about two minutes into testing. When I closed the drive and it started to spin up, the system shut down. Where as before the shut downs occurred after the fans sounded like they were full speed. Which took anywhere from five to ten minutes.
This got me to try out my next test. Which was I started prime95, furmark. And then immediately put in a dvd. The drive sounded like it was trying to spin up but then would slow down and then spin up again. This went on for about eight seconds. Then the system shut down.
So its not a heat issue, or as far as I can tell an issue with the cpu or gpu. Unless there is some voltage issue, then my best guess is the psu. Sager is issuing me a rma now. So hopefully I'll get this fixed before end of next week. -
One thing that is bothering me, and I'm just picking knits, is how after each use, the touchpad and wrist areas get shiny. I try to keep my hands clean, but I guess it is just the natural oils. I need to figure out a way to keep it looking sharp, any ideas?
-
Rub it all over with your natural oils so that the entire laptop is uniformly shinny.

Electronics are meant to be used. That's the greatest happiness one can get from them. You should see my keyboard, especially my WASD keys. So shiny.
-
-
You should see my touchpad. A few more uses and my girlfriend wont need the bathroom mirror =\.

Well just got my 8760 and it was all good until I noticed several stuck pixels when the screen went to black from either screensaver or with a dark game. I turned off the laptop and turned it back on and you can see it as soon as the system turns on. I've tried several of the stuck pixel programs out there with no success. Debating if I should return it as I don't know if I'm going to like the system with the pixels as they are.
Anyone else have this problem and if so did it go away on its own? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Stuck pixels very rarely fix themselves over time if you already tried to fix them using screen scramblers, rubbing, tapping, etc.

Well, I originally had a pre-order on the new Asus G73JH, but when I saw the release had been moved to late Feb., I decided to pull the plug and go with a Sager NP8760 and I'm glad I did! Apparently Xotic (not sure who else) is running a sale with them. I was able to snag one of these with the i7 820 4g ram and blu-ray reader for the same price as a 720!!! woot!! /does a little dance...
gonna have to change my sig now!!! -
Punxnotdead - Thanks for mentioning the sale. I talked with Malibal and they are having a similar sale starting on Monday. Thank the lord!!! Huzzah!
-
That's an awesome sale going on. One reseller appears to be giving a 2nd hard drive as part of the deal whereas another is only giving 1.
