Is the Mata BD-CMB UJ130AS ATA Device DVD player blue ray? I don't see a blue ray logo on the drive, is it software converted Blueray?

Dont know why I can't type the name, this keeps truncating it.

Crappy story with a good outcome:

I'm currently deployed overseas, and a few mornings ago I was chatting with an old roommate i had not talked to in a few years, i was running a little late so instead of having my laptop (Asus G71GX) closed and on the end of my bed, i set it in the center of my bed, with the lid almost closed, and my earbuds sitting on the keyboard.. I gently placed a pillow over it to hide it. I live in a bay style building, sectioned off in 4 man "rooms" by wall lockers and blankets, usually one of my friends is in the room, so i dont worry about someone stealing my stuff. Well, that night I return from work and get on my laptop only to notice the screen is broken, right where the earbud was laying.. Guess i hid it too well; and i think my alarm was going off and somebody was trying to find it in my bunk to turn it off and put their hand down on my pillow, thus destroying my screen.. Well, instead of being too pissed about it, ive decided to get an np8760 :D hopefully i will enjoy it just as much as everyone here

Possibly to help them sell the w870cu against the new Asus G73hj.

Any news on European resellers doing this kind of promotions?

That would be my guess. The Asus G73 should be getting alot of attention.

I wish there was a way to get all the extras considering I just received my machine 5 days ago. It kind of stinks to know that I could have received more for the same price.

Ok, I'm a little nervous here, I just bought a Sager 8760 with a 500g 7200 rpm drive. My plan was to remove the HDD from the primary bay, put it in the second and put my OCZ Vertex 120g SSD in the primary bay for a boot/os drive. I just did a Sanitary Erase on it and now it's ready. The thing I'm nervous about is the SSD itself. When it was in my netbook I had to configure SATA as IDE for the drive to work. I was looking through the Clevo Bios Manual and there isn't a setting for this. Does anyone else have an OCZ Vertex 120g installed in this machine as a boot drive? And if so is there a workaround? I would hate to have to use the 500g as my only drive.

If you really do need the drive configured as IDE, then you set the 'Installed OS' to Win XP. This BIOS option is horribly mis-labeled.

Ok, first of all I'm not completely sure I will need to configure as IDE, since I don't have the laptop yet and hopefully I won't need to change anything. Second, according to the manual the options are SATA RAID and AHCI (I have no idea what you mean about setting installed OS to Win XP, I know call me a noob :p .) When the SSD was in my Asus netbook it actually had to be configured as IDE just to install an OS on it as the install would hang when it would start to copy files with a brand new drive.

It appears that they have changed the option again, sorry about the misleading info.

Have a look at what the options are under "SATA Mode Selection", there may be an option for IDE there, even if it's not in the manual.

Hi guys, just a quick question.
Would it be possible (and easy) to upgrade the graphics card on this laptop, if I wanted to some time in the future?
    Thanks

I did almost exactly what you did and it works great. 120GB Vertex as my boot drive that I installed myself, with another 320GB drive in the second bay.

It's true that it doesn't have an IDE mode, but that's only an issue when booting to DOS and trying to flash the bios. For normal usage, it works great (I have TRIM going with Win7).

If Sager releases newer video cards that have the same Thermal and Power requirements you would be able to upgrade the video card. :) At this time we have not heard confirmed info on when any newer video cards will be launched.

Hurrah, my machine finally arrived from Novatech after a long and protracted build process!!

Pros: Great screen, no stck pixels, quiet as a mouse unless cpu intensive activities running

Cons: Got the Hannstar monitor (would love to know what this is like vs the AUO on a side by side comparison) although it looks pretty good to me.

I do have a question though - my lappy doesn't have a fingerprint reader and the chassis doesn't look exactly like that on XoticPCs You Tube Video (Different speakers at the back, different l/r mouse buttons on the touch pad)

However the machine reads as a W870cu??

Edit: You can view the machine here:
    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/laptop/range/x80ca17.3.html

Anyone else have a chassis like this or have they squeezed the innards into a different shell??

The models without a fingerprint reader have different touchpad buttons. Every W870CU chassis is the same. There are no differences other than the touchpad. Do you have a pic of your W870CU speakers?

Thanks for the speedy replies SS - having spent the cash its good to have reassurance that I got what I should have.

To be honest had a complete nightmare getting the machine so this kinda would have been the final straw. Looks like I need to start getting everything installed and up to date and see what this baby can do ;)

I was just curious as I've noticed on many of the posts of pictures the words "StyleNote" on the back part but not on the one in the Xotic video. Is this on all 8760s? or is it not present on the Xotic video one because it's a demo model? or is it random? I'm still not sure if i like it or not... lol. Another thing I was curious about is the trim. On earlier models it's orange/red but the most recent pictures I've saw show a silver trim. Is this different from reseller to reseller or...? I was wondering what factors, if any, went into determining these two vanity features.

EDIT: Wait it's on the Xotic one too... still what determines these?

It depends on where you get your notebook. My W870CU did not come with any badges at all; it's completely incognito. The Sager branded W870CU's sure don't have them on the LED bar. You might want to ask your reseller what badges it comes with.

Well, I put in an RMA request for my unit. I tried to live with the stuck pixels but it just bothers me whenever the screen saver or any game with a black background comes on. I've tried all of the suggested fixes and its no-go. It is strange though as the pixels themselves are not fixed to a specific color as far as I can tell. It looks more like a rip into the back of the screen.

As far as stickers go mine came with just the HDMI and i7 intel sticker. No others were on and I love that.

The only issue I have is that the sound doesn't seem very loud, even with headphones. Watching a movie also seems kinda "flat" like virtual surround isn't working. Any tips on improving the sound folks?

Even though I'm sending my unit back, my wife commented that she could here the sound of me playing Dragon Age from upstairs. I know Win7 has various options to manage your surround sound. Might want to give that a try.

I have a problem that my GPU fan is noisier than the CPU fan. It's most noticable at low fan speeds, when you can hear the bearings (it sounds like ball bearings of my old Volcano 11). CPU fan is very quiet. Are CPU and GPU fans the same type in W870CU?

The beast came today and it is dead sexy! I've never been so proud to own a laptop. no dead pixels and it's nice and quiet.

My temps seem good so far, but I haven't tried anything too intense yet. I am idling at 48 C. Encoding video I am at around 65 C

I wasn't able to see what monitor I have... it just says Generic Plug in Play right now, not sure if that is because I have an external plugged it or not, but pretty sure it was like that from the get go. I have to say though, this is the best looking monitor I have ever seen on a laptop. It's easily just as good as any MacBook Pro (we have a lot of those at work, so thats the only thing I know to compare it to for quality... those have great quality).

    Couldn't be happier!

That's the spirit. The W870CU is the premier notebook of this generation. All that needs to be done is apply the finishing touches; replace the thermal paste. Once that's done, your temps will be much better and you will be a much happier man.

Everest, eh? Cool I will download that. Thank you!

I imagine thermal paste will help, but if I don't run into temp problems/overheating, I will probably leave it at stock. I am very nervous to muck around with that stuff. I don't think I've ever applied thermal paste, even to a desktop... /me hides.

Just for giggles, is there a nice thermal paste guide I could use if I was ever so tempted to bite the bullet?

I really am pleased with this thing.. that's an understatement! If it holds up as well as I am hoping, I will be a Sager fan for life!
