here you go -
Guys im trying to update with the 196.21 drivers (win 7 64bit, gtx280m 1gb) and I get this message : t he nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware ANyone know what Im doing wrong? Am I supposed to uninstall the current ones??
-
-
Someone please explain this. lol
Got the Corsair RAM in, and immediately my system would reboot itself. It would get to the starting windows screen and reboot. Even safe mode and repair wouldn't work.
So I pop memtest in and it is finding massive errors and the error counter is going wild.
Reboot.
Now memtest is running ok so I quit at 10% just to see if my system would boot and sure enough it did. Just played a whole campaign on L4D2 and no problems,
I can't figure it out or decide if I should RMA the RAM again.... -
-
I am just going to let memtest do a full out test.
If it errors out again, then I'll tinker. I have never had issues with Corsair RAM so I am thinking it was a fluke.
Thanks for the help drake! -
1.Download Driver zip file
2.Download Modified .INF
3.Copy .inf file into the drivers folder and replace existing.
4.Run Setup and you should be good to go. -
2. Where can I download the modified .inf?
thanks for helping! -
1. Go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ and choose the dirvers you want to installs they should download in a .zip automatically.
2.The Modified .inf should be next to the option to download at the top. Very easy to spot.
3.Unzip driver to a folder on desktop, drag .inf into folder and then run the .exe file in the unzipped folder.
If you need any more help just send me a PM, dont want to clog the thread. -

I'm not getting one. Just interesting because the systems just got the 5870.

Well after a lot of research and thought, I have pulled the trigger on the Sager 8760. I fully loaded it up and looking forward to it. Spec’s are below. Before I get grief for picking the GTX285 over the ATI 5870, there is a reason for that. I primarily flight sim and the Nvidia drivers are significantly better (Faster, much better visuals) for my use. Also decided since I have always bought mid range gear and forgo that last 10-20% performance in the name of saving money, that it was time to treat myself and get the top of the line CPU.
I checked out both XoticPC and Powernotebooks, they were both really good at answering my questions, but went with Powernotebooks. Either one would have been very good to use.

Funny though they did not change it

I am having a MAJOR dilemma.
I will write in point form, since this may be a long post...would really like to hear some feedback (also sorry for double posting in the Asus section just wanted to get additional feedback - apologizing in advance)...
1) I am NOT a gamer. I will play a few games here and there, but what I really want is an AFFORDABLE powerhouse for Adobe CS4, video, photoshop, web design and day-day computer work. I want a 17" screen - that is not negotiable.
2) I was "set" on the Asus G73, until all the problems keep cropping up. I want a no-nonsense machine with the smallest chance of issues, problems, etc...
3) I am starting to look at the Sager/Clevo 870U and the new Lenovo W701s coming out soon...not sure which way to go here...
Some questions I have are:
a) Is it worth $550 to go from a i7-820 to a i7-920 if I have no plans on any overclocking?
b) What is the difference between the screens on the Clevo 870U and the Asus G73?
c) Am I better off with a Nvidia 285 over the Ati 5870 considering the number of GPU issues cropping up with the 5870?
d) What about the "other" comparisons between the 2 machines - keyboard, extra buttons, cooling, general feel of the machine - don't care about aestetics just funtionality...?
Lastly - is there ANY OTHER machine I should consider in the $1500 to $2800 range?
THANKS!! -
A No
B none they are the same screen
c There are no issues of the 5870's those GPU's were made by asus so they are just crappier things
D Keyboard is better here and so is the touch pad ... Overalli love the machien way more then the Asus as a work horse
I own both -
Moo
You aren't going to sell you G73?
I thought you were a poor college student? lol -
@ corpfan... If I was in your shoes
a. I would NOT pay the extra $550 for the CPU if I had no intention of an overclock
b. I dont own either but I have read they are both excellent screens with very little difference in quality between them.
c. I would go with the Nvidia card because the mechanics of it is 2 years old so it has had many many driver revisions and has a proven track record as you are not gaming the addition of DX11 has no benefit to you.
d. Again I dont own either but check out The Moo's review on both machines they make for an excellent read and both appear to be very good although I believe that his preference is the Clevo unit.
e. Other options to look at would be:
1. Clevo X8100 the 18.4 screen would give you more are to work on although it is the same resolution as the W870 the extra 1.4" will make quite a difference for photoshop etc etc. Can be run as SLI or if you wanted to reduce cost you could spec it with 1 card
2. Clevo D900f 17" frame but utilising the awesome desktop i7 processor uses the same Nvidia card and probably runs cooler than W870 due to the excellent cooling of the unit. Without a doubt the best mobile workstation laptop available at the moment. -
Thanks for the feedback!
The only thing preventing me from something like the X8100 or the D900f is the weight of the machine (at 3 lbs heavier than the 870u)...my desktop kicks - so what I really want is a powerhouse portable (but with at least 17" screen).
Do you think waiting a month or 2 would help with the difference in price between the 820 and the 920 cpus? Or is it not even worth the upgrade at all?
-
At the end of the day its entirely up to you, I have ordered a Clevo X8100 with a 920 because I intend to use the machine to play Supcom and Supcom 2 which is notoriously CPU hungry also the people I bought it from said that if I needed the extra boost from the CPU they can overclock it. -
-
magic,
I am now leaning to the Asus again...lol...never ends...
I can't seem to justify the cost of the Sager - almost double (but CPU will be 820 - a bit better)...
Other issues I am having...reasons to get the Asus...
1) No backlit keyboard...really want one.
2) Have to pay extra for Windows.
3) No mouse or backpack.
4) Sager warranty a bit of a problem for me in Canada as I will have to pay shipping both ways if there is an issue.
5) No expandability past 8GB - only 2 DIMM slots...Asus has 4 slots.
6) Volume/sound seems much better on the Asus from reviews/opinions.
7) Sager much louder fans.
8) Can't get it in Canada - have to pay customs/duty, etc...
(Reasons FOR the Sager)
a) Seems more reliable. No problems with ATI cards.
b) Better keyboard/touchpad.
c) ESata and Firewire and ExpressCard ports.
d) Better overall cooling (?).
e) Easy to get at parts when opening.
f) Can get it quick and NOW.
Does that pretty much sum it up everyone? What am I missing? Is anything above out of line?
Thanks!
-
The Asus will over-clock the i7-720QM, the Clevo can't.
-
If you are referring to the TwinTurbo well that doesn't do much. lol -

Corpfan1 and Magicdud
1) No backlit keyboard...really want one.
I wanted a backlit to, but after prioritizing what is important in a laptop it was far enough down the list to live with. I went to Best buy and looked at an asus G60 with the feature and felt that it was ok, the lighting was so bright that It was hard to see how it would look in a totally dark environment. The display would be bright enough to light up the keys anyway.
2) Have to pay extra for Windows.
Yeah that’s a bummer, I was lucky in that I have a copy of Win 7 Ultimate that I got free at a Microsoft event last fall.
3) No mouse or backpack.
I have an old Asus G1 that came with a mouse and backpack. I found the backpack very uncomfortable to use and kinda cheap, and I never used the mouse because I prefer a wireless mouse. I ended up with a much nicer backpack that is much better for long hauls.
4) Sager warranty a bit of a problem for me in Canada as I will have to pay shipping both ways if there is an issue.
Cannot really comment.
5) No expandability past 8GB - only 2 DIMM slots...Asus has 4 slots.
8GB of ram will be overkill for 99% of what most people will need for what would be an expected life span of 3 years for this laptop. By then you will be ready to upgrade then anyway.
6) Volume/sound seems much better on the Asus from reviews/opinions.
This was higher on my list than the keyboard. I looked at the MSI 1727 which has much better sound, but in the end it was 3rd or 4th on the list. Laptop sound is mediocre at best even with good sound system. If you want better sound external speakers are going to be needed either way.
7) Sager much louder fans.
That is so subjective, one persons noise is a another’s music. I cannot comment till I get mine.
8) Can't get it in Canada - have to pay customs/duty, etc...
That could be painfull
(Reasons FOR the Sager)
a) Seems more reliable. No problems with ATI cards.
Way more reliable based
Way more reliable based on the problems reported in the G73 forums versus the lack of any real show stopping problems here in the sager forums.
b) Better keyboard/touchpad.
Hope so, this is my first chicklet style keyboard.
c) ESata and Firewire and ExpressCard ports.
This one is for sure a big plus.
d) Better overall cooling (?).
I would say it’s definitely better, it will be much easier to keep clean, than theG73. The flow of air in the G73 and the design of the chassis will make keeping clean a real bummer.
e) Easy to get at parts when opening.
Yep
f) Can get it quick and NOW.
I ordered mine today and they are going to try and get it to me by next Friday.
If you look at my post up about a page I describe what I ended with and why if it’s of any interest. -
SAger is not much louder and it wont randomly die and overheat.Leaving the owner to wait 3 weeks like me
-
Thank you for the AWESOME feedback.
Still stuck in the mud...
$2000 Cdn vs. $3500 Cdn for same specs except what the differences between the machines are (ports, etc..)
-
get the cheaper

I just got my Sager 8760 in the mail yesterday. It's much bigger than I imagined...
I am trying to figure out what O/S to install. I a am kinda leaning towards Windows 7 Pro.
Here are the specs of what I got.
i7 820 processor
Nvidia 280 GPU
IC Diamond TC
6gb Ram
500gb 7200rpm SATA
BlueRay Burner multi-drive
This is my first laptop, so I'm not like this major PC gear-head (though I'm geting there)... I've never even installed an O/S before. I have a few questions that I'm hoping that y'all can help me with.
1. Is there any help available when I install the O/S
2. What OS is recommended?
3. I was considering a dual boot with Ubuntu and Widows. What are you thoughts here?
4. What, if anything should I know about my new laptop that is not common knowledge.
5. I am considering an additional 500gb HD , what brand to you recommend?
Like I said, this is my 1st laptop, I purchased it from Sager directly. It seems that I should have went to a reseller but I'll try to hope for the best here... Sorry for the new-b questions but, if I don't ask, I'll never know...
Thanks! -
Why, yes.
Doesn't it bump the bclk subtly?
I tried different vantage runs on and off an TT didn't help my CPU score. -
-
Did you run it with the 720 and 920? Or just the 920? -
720 and it made Games run worse
-
-
Yes I ran it on both with HyperX memory.
-
Hmm so 920XM ES is just $595 now. There's no reason to go for any other CPU when the barebones is just $1045.
So my plan is:
Barebones w/ wireless - $1085
i7 920XM - 595
4GB Kingston HyperX - 120
WD3200BEKT - 70
Total = $1870
Or I could cheap out with the i7 620M, which would take it all the way down to $1533.
Now I just have to save up for it....
