Malibal isn't a Sager reseller (they sell Clevo's). For that reason XoticPC will not price match them.

JRTech W870CU + wNic = 1,459.00
+RAM (4GB DDR3/1333) = $73.00
+CPU (720QM) = $400 (after shipping)
+my own 320GB HD = $0
-------
$1932 + S/H from JRTech
Malibal config - W870CU wNic/4GB/250GB/720QM
+my own 320GB HD (total of 670GB) = $0
-------
$1906 (cash price) + S/H
Now if I could find a non-ES 720QM for $300 we might have something.. -

RJTech's component prices are mediocre and it's best for the buyer to buy the parts seperately. The CPU I'm going to pick off of eBay for cheap, the RAM I will buy from Kingston with a 15% off coupon I have lying around, the HDD will be from my M570TU, the Intel 5350 I can also get for cheap, and I already have the retail version of Seven infront of me. S&H is also free and since they are in the same shipping zone as I am, it probably takes no more than two or three days via ground to get to my front door.

Yes, they are shipping now. RJTech is always the first to have them out of all the other North American resellers.
-
Well Soviet, let us know how it goes when you get it. Looking forward to your future posts about it.
-
Looking forward to your impressions and testing Sovie. I envy the W870, but I can't swallow a loss selling this notebook right now.

I second this. Absolutely the place to go for barebones. Good, quick communication and know their stuff.
They made my D900F barebones purchase purchase a sheer joy.
I did the same thing and cherry picked each component over the course of a few weeks. -

That's nothing. My first Clevo, my precious D400V, is a classic.

Well BabyHemi,
Looks like I will be getting one, order processing. Wanted a more portable 860, but timing is everything and 870 is not delayed. Moreover, the OC ability in the 870 makes sense for a 920xm, my rig will be similar to yours, but with one or 2 OCZ Agility EX 60gb SDDs in Raid 0, a bit pricy but one only lives once....
mid 2s on 4 cores to 3.73 will be fine for me...until we can figure a way to bump it w/o frying the core.....sizzle....

What about the below statement regarding Ntune (aka Nturd)? Anyone think it will work on the I7? Probably not...but is there similar software to help overclock, or do we have to do it all manual... buying my rig via Factor Gaming (Sager reseller), which comes with OC CD tools.
Ntune does work... It's the user who blindly makes a dozen changes all at once, and then the system won't work? I use it all the time, for diagnostics, quick tuning changes, and once the system is stable, transfer the settings into bios. Go for the newest version, and don't change too much at one time. There is really no manual... nvidia assumes the user of ntune knows what RCD, for example, means? I like the ability to make bios changes on the fly... IMHO, there is nothing 'wrong' with the ntune software, rather the problem lies with users who try to 'do it all at once', or push too far too fast. ANYONE who has ever done any successful overclocking has had to do a hard bios reset, and it doesn't matter if OC'g with ntune or in the bios! -

Just had a few minutes to open the box and take a few quick poor quality pics. This thing is not big at all!! It feels to me almost like a netbook! It is the lightest, nicely streamlined 17' laptop I have ever used, you can pick it up and move it so easy. The bios DEFINITLY HAS FULL OVERCLOCKING under advanced. Back to work now for me, can't do anything with it till latter.
-
Great pics babyhemi. Your system is a beast.
-
Niiiiiiice!! :d
-
How about LCD screen on this beast?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
My question is how high is the overclock with 4x multipliers unlocked and turbo mode on four cores and one core. I'm guessing 2.53GHz and 3.73GHz is as far as it will go since I don't think Turbo Boost will kick in after a manual overclock.
-
Specifically, how black are the blacks on this LCD screen? I like really deep blacks.
-
+1 for the share, Nice system. Enjoy it!!
-
+1 but no button to click...argh
oops, there it is now that I'm logged on. Thanks for the pics -

That is nice. Can't wait to see:
Max OC via BIOS (It has been reported to be 2.53ghz / 3.73ghz)
Size/weight of the AC adapter
LCD Panel ID/Maker
Temps under load (OCCT / Prime95)
Temps at Idle
Noise level under load and normal (IE gaming).
I'm sensing a serious influx of rep coming your way man. -
LCD panel is posted already

Xoticpc had a review of it and justin came here and told us the LCD id -

The Chimei 1920x1080 panels on the W870CU are gorgeous.
I need to find a 920XM soon. It's about time to make some Soviet Magic. High temps will be a thing of the past with a Siberian built machine. -

You're pretty on point Soviet, so I'll take your word for it on the panel. I'm thinking of going with one now since Dell is irking me to no end.

Does the W860CU have the same screen type as the W870CU?

What? 10char

I meant are the quality of both laptops fairly the same?

Sager is carrying AUO WUXGA panels for the W860CU and Chimei WUXGA panels for the W870CU. XoticPC says both look nice, so I'd say that's a yes.

When OC to 3.7ghz, is it using all four cores, or just one?

3.7GHz is the max after it goes down to 1 core. (With Intel Turbo Mode Technology)

I am seriously considering purchasing this beast, but want to make sure of a couple of things. Can the 280gtx be upgraded with a dx11 video card down the line? Also, can the chipset in the np8760 support the upcoming 35 nm i7 processors? Thanks!
-
Is it possible to get this one in UK? The only place I could find it is down - https://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/
-
No, it will not support the upcoming 32nm i7 CPUs, but those will be 2 core CPUs and what you get now is a 4 core CPU so there is no reason to upgrade. -
I get a feeling we'll have a Mid-year revision for this ala the M860 where it will support Arrandale (too?)
Too bad about OCUK no longer selling them. They were the cheapest of the three.
Oh and then there's Rock... ...and they're lowest on the list for a good reason. -
-
I looked up a 17'' Clevo clone at http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/l...x80ca17.3.html and... max RAM 4GB? Have they noticed it's a 21st century already? This is looking bad...
-
Many places do not list the support for 8GB RAM, even if it indeed is supported. Partly due to the sheer price of single 4gb ddr3 stick.
-
The chipset does support 8GB RAM, but Clevo has had some problems with the testing. Thats the reason Clevo says max ram are only 4gb on their website. However, they are trying to fix it.
