I received mine today. Overall, the system performance is really impressive. Tried out Crysis on high settings and ran smooth as can be. My only complaint is the sound volume..it is soo low. Can anyone give recommendations to increase the sound volume? I have messed with the settings but still unimpressive sound. Even when I use headphones I still can't crank up the volume.

For those with SSD drives, are you using the standard ms driver or Intel storage matrix driver? I did a comparison and overall my speeds were faster using Intel's but it still was only roughly around 180mbs average in HD Tune. Max peak was 189.

    Intel's doesn't pass TRIM.

So if you want that you have to use the MS driver.

I am going to be using the MS drivers, the intel drivers don't support the trim feature just yet. When they do then I will switch over then. I feel the slight speed increase now is not nearly as important as having trim running in the long run.

Thx sleey and honda. I was reading just now re-looking for the driver I had. For those with SSD drives what speeds are you seeing? 180 isn't bad, but I still think it should be a tad higher.

Decided to ditch Hd Tune and used AS SSD and my benchmarks overall look good. I have an x-25 80gb.

As SSD is a good program to use for benchmarking SSD's. Should have suggested it to begin with.

Do you have a G2 version drive? If you have trim support up and running the numbe'sr you get should hold pretty well.

Also don't benchmark to often, it adds unneeded wear on the drives write cycles.

Yup, G2 and Trim is enabled now that I am using MS's drive. I was using Intel's toolkit before with their driver. I updated to their lastest driver this morning to test and I lost severe performance compared to the old one but I can't find it any more so I will stick with MS's stock one for the time being.

What a busy time for me at work! Anyway this is my very first 3D and Vantage run since I put my ATI card in. Not too bad for a first try at moderate OC. Hope to try more another day... :D

I have got windows 7 Pro - 64 installed, everything seems to be working except that I cant see my video card in my device manager. I got the 64 bit drivers and tried to install them but it says that there is no matching hardware. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

First always make sure your video card is seen in the bios. If it's not then install the latest posted bios update from HERE

This is hands down the best laptop I have ever owned! The LED screen is amazing...The performance of this beast is unbelievable! i haven't tried overclocking the 5870 gpu or the 920 processor and it is tearing through everything I am thowing at it. The sound is the only drawback but I am getting some speakers. I ordered last Tuesday through Ken at Gentech and had in my hands on Friday (UPS 2 Ground). I highly recommend Ken at Gentech...he has been a pleasure to deal with,

I am getting excited to get it. I have pretty much planned out the whole ordeal of installing my SSD Drive, HyperX memory, loading windows 7 ultimate, all that fun stuff. :D

For those with HyperX memory, has anyone done any benchmarking to compare it to the standard "9" most DDR3 ram is?

Thx Drake but I was curious if others have compared. I decided to run 8gb of ram so I can run a VM instance of my work laptop on my new sager so I don't have to use that POS laptop they provide.

    Rancid.

The HyperX only comes in 4 gig kits with 2- 2Gig sticks, You couldn't get 8gigs of this if you wanted to (you only have 2 slots in the 7860). You have to go with standard ram for that.

I understand that, I was just curious in performance since a lot of people are starting to pick up these kits. Thanks for the info though. Hopefully in a couple months we will have more choices of faster DDR3 ram.

The reason why people are getting these kits is because they are shiny and gimmicky, period. It's a human mentality called perfectionism that makes us want the absolute best for our systems. In this case, two ticks down from standard JEDEC timings. A "regular" 8GB kit would be a much better choice over a 4GB HyperX kit. There is absolutely no contribution to real performance whatsoever. The most your are going to see is 3% in memory stress tests over the course of hours of testing. In translation, this means that the video that you have been encoding for hours would be done a few minutes earlier. Otherwise, most applications cannot fully utilize the sheer bandwidth of the system memory because the CPU cannot catch up with it.

Yep! seems like some peoples machines are fine others refuse to work.

I will try one set, if they work I will be good to go. If not I will RMA to newegg and be done with it.

I figure the small increase in performance is worth one shot, but I will not be going back and forth with these with newegg.

Not sure if the problems people are having is a quality issue or just running on the ragged edge of the chipset.

Is switching from one 4GB kit to another just to get an extra 3% as SS says ? I dont believe it is, I was curious my self but think I will just hold out until 8GB kits are more avaliable.

Is it worth it probably not. $120 bucks for 1-3% increase in performance is pretty expensive. The only reason I am going to try one set, is when I ordered this laptop I was not going to spare any expense for getting the absolute best performance possible. I have in all my years of building and buying computers have spent 50% of the cost to get 80% of the performance of the top of the line equipment. This time I am treating myself to having the absolute best performance possible regardless of how much it is. I am enjoying myself and have vowed not to have any regrets.

Has anyone by chance found mobility drivers that will work with the 5870 under WindowsXP 32-bit? No luck so far, only for Vista/Win7 and my VmWare instance is running in VGA mode b/c no compatable drivers :(

    Lovin this thing so far!

Question: Is there a way to boost the sound output through the headphone jack? I have some headphones plugged in but even with the volume turned all the way up, it's not all that loud.

    apparently not.
its not a soundcard thing but some wiring/resistor thing that was discussed some time ago.
but you can try the spdif and b/t headphones if you have them. some users have commented they get excellent sound from those.

I just got mine yesterday and it is my first Clevo. This was also my first barebones laptop but I must say I actually enojoyed the whole process. I like the understated design, I am kind of a plain person I suppose. The display is very nice, the ease of access to all the components is a huge bonus. I am impressed with how cool it runs, even without a pad its not uncomfortable in my lap and the keyboard area seems to stay cool. I do have one complaint and one wish. I know this has already been touched on by others, but I have to sound off on it as well. The sound through the laptop speakers sucks, even for a laptop. I tried using headphones and it still sounds like crap and the volume was kind of weak to. I was lucky enough to still have a Creative laptop card, and with it and the headphones I am content. I still have to say even though I dont buy a laptop for the built in sound....really this was the best they could do? As for my wish, I really liked the media controls on my 7811fx as I like to listen to music while I game and this was a nice feature. While I wont call it perfect, I am still very pleased with the purchase, and I plan to drive it till the wheels fall off. :)

No you should reapply your thermal paste if your feeling up to it...

If you decide to just make sure to keep lots of pressure on the GPU heatsink while screwing it down otherwise it wont make a good seal with the heatsink....

It might be easier to have someone pressing down on it while your bolting it back down....

Replacing the paste on these machines is a no brainer but im not sure how familiar you are with re applying paste ?...

Just to give you an idea my average temps after a couple hours of gaming on the GPU are around 71-75...
