Only had it for 5 weeks or so, but couldn't be happier. Absolutely no problems except for a keyboard that sometimes seems to have a mind of its own, with the cursor jumping somewhere other than where it was and should have been. Probably some setup problem. Haven't tried to trace the source yet. Could be inadvertently brushing the touch pad I guess. Except for that minor irritation, the 8760 has been almost perfect.

Yeah i had that happening as well with cursor jumping....

Install the latest synaptics touchpad software then go into Control panel and then Mouse, inside there is a synaptics tab and you can then disable the touch pad...

I never use my touchpad so it didnt bother me having it disabled all the time and it will stay disabled across reboots etc...

I'll try that. I also discovered there were 4 keyboards installed, 3 of them tied to the infrared port. Occurred to me that the port might be picking up extraneous signals, so I uninstalled them. Your approach is more logical. Thanks.

Edit: downloaded the Synaptics driver, disabled the touchpad, and it seems to have cured the problem. Thanks again, Quad. +Rep

To those of you who purchased this laptop with the Mobility 5870 in it and have the SC2 beta, have you run into any issues? The reason why I ask is because this morning I started getting some errors (apparently just textures popping in and out). To see what I mean you can look at this screen: http://img52.yfrog.com/img52/3664/screenshot002pd.jpg and notice the black spots near the geyser and the CC

10.4 doesn't help. Also: I've noticed a similar problem in l4d2 now on the player models. http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/7923/c1m1hotel0027.jpg you can see a few of the dark spots in this one, but while im playing they flash constantly all over. are these problems are people have cause the card is new, or is mine just effed?

Maybe your GPU is deffective or you have done a wrong configuration in the driver settings. Try changing the configuration in the driver. Does this problem also accure when you play those two games with the lowest settings and resolution?

I had the same problems with the original blu-ray software, I had to upgrade to Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 and that solved my problem. I cost $56.00 US dollars.

I would verify temps are not getting to high. If temps are fine try underclocking some and see if they go away; if they do then it may just be a defective card.

Yeah, but OCCTP has an error detection function. If you get errors with OCCTP on stock clocks than you most certainly having a hardware fault.

so after about 5 minutes the graphics card got to about 97C and started reporting errors (and increasing) so I just stopped the test. Can I assume my card is broken?

No that means your heatsink most likely is not seated right. Even with a stress test mine never goes above 80C. If it did not report errors till the high temp then the problem is most likely just heat.

I consider buying this laptop, but I have some questions about configuration:

    a. Should I choose i7 720QM or 820QM for gaming?

    b. Should I go for a 5870 or a GTX 285M for modern gaming in max settings and low heat?

    c. Is the problem with more than 4GB of RAM accure now?

for gaming the 720qm will do the job.

the 5870 seems a stronger card, also is cheaper and consume less power

    4gb for gaming is fine.

That's the one a good number of W870CU users have bought for their notebooks. The only thing I don't like about it is the additional leverage that the snap on plug has on the DC socket. It will work just fine though.

    Hey all,

Just received one of these pretty things (well, I think they are) from RK Computers. Service was good, Rob was always very helpful.

Couple questions about benchmark and temps, if anyone has some input!

    Specs: i7 820QM, ATI 5870, 160GB SSD + 500GB 7200RPM, 4GB 1333Mhz RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, Catalyst 10.4, IC Diamond Paste.

I ran Vantage with "High" settings, and got CPU 12586, and GPU 4481. Are those typical scores for my setup? Is Vantage usually run in "high" mode, when people compare ratings? I'm curious as I've seen higher scores with the same components as my NP8760. Don't think they had OC'ed it, but can't seem to find those posts now :/

Lastly, my GPU's idle temps are consistently around 56-57. During the benchmarking they peaked at 75.5, but I think I recall seeing much lower idle temps on others' rigs?

    Thanks for the help,
    Ashii

EDIT: Ran 3d Vantage again with "Performance" Settings - P8677, GPU 7882, CPU 12437. Do those figures look normal, Dr. Forum? :x

The idle temp depends alot on your ambient temp, it's the during load temp that's important. Also, did you check that you didn't turn on silent mode by accident? As in the "M" LED light on top.

    Hey,

Thanks for the reply - the "M" LED/Silent Mode was off. I don't even really hear a difference when it's on, anyway, for that matter :x

I'm sure load temps are the most telling, but I figured idle temps would still be important? I really do seem to recall seeing others with my same setup getting temps in the mid-40's.

Do all those 3dMark scores look normal to you, too?

    Cheers~

The GPU score is a bit on the low side, but I don't know what are your vantage configs.

Idle temps only tells you your ambient temp, not how good the cooling system is doing, when I was in Singapore where the ambient temp is 30-35C, my idle temp is 60+C, when I was in China where the ambient temp was 15C, my idle temp is 40+C, however, when running furmark the difference is not so much, in Singapore my max furmark core temp is 77C, in China it's 72C.

The first benchmark was done at "high" settings, the second (posted in my Edit) was done at "performance" settings. Is that what you mean?

Any idea why my scores would be low like that?

Your scores are not low; in fact, those results are excellent with a 820/5870 rig. Here are my results with a stock 920/5870 for comparison.

Hey, I have been looking at this computer for a while, and noticed that it looks like all of the fans are on the bottom, but the vents are on the back. Does this mean that it stays pretty cool if you are using it on your lap?

The vents on the back are exhaust vents. The intake vents are on the bottom below the fans. Because of the heat creating potential of these laptops, it is important to keep those bottom vents unobstructed. Consequently, using it on your lap is not recommended unless your have some type of board or other flat surface under it. It is best to think of the 8760 as a notebook, not a laptop in the literal sense.

    Hello all,
    i just got a Clevo 860CU, branded in Germany ( www.deviltech.de).
6GB RAM, 320GB HDD, I-820, ATI 5870, 1080LED. Somehow i can't install the 3.5G Driver; it says the module is not present.
Could it be the german reseller ripped it apart? Can sb. pls. post a pic of the opened 3.5G bay so i can compare it?

    Thanks a lot!
    Steve.

Take out your battery, it's in a screwed close compartment left of your hard disk. Usually there isn't one if u didn't configure with one.

Hmmkay, it IS there, there also is a SIM card lock and stuff. Thing is, in Germany you can't configure it with/without 3.5G.
Same to Bluetooth, Full HD LED display and fingerprint reader; but those are at least mentioned when ordering as being included.
Wondering if they maybe locked it in the BIOS, maybe its not compatible with german frequencies?
I will try to post a pic from my rig as soon as i get online in the office.

Another Question: Has anybody information on how to get more battery capacity? My Thinkpad can take a secondary battery into the "Ultrabay" (take out DVD drive and put in battery); something similar available from clevo?

    Hi guys,

I have been lurking on this forum since I become a member. I finally decided to get either W870CU or (if my reseller have it ready by end of this month the latest I can wait) W880CU. My budget isn't unlimited, I have to take an option for either one of these 2:

Get i7 820QM and sacrifice my going-to-be-first-experience with SSD (albeit 80GB).

    or

Get the i7-720QM but with SSD and second HDD (500GB).

    Which is more beneficial? :(

The reason why I am having this dilemma is, I left windows over 3 years ago and I got to be honest that I'm not the brightest when it comes to PC (thus using Mac jokes ensue..) and I read from the forum here somewhere that people would be better off with dual core i7-620 since it's better than the quad core BUT only 720QM.. I don't know the real-world-related effect will be if I opt for the 720, but does anyone care to enlighten me on this?

I will be mostly playing games at first (since those 3 years using mac, I've held my hunger for games..) but I want to also use this laptop for working. Nothing extraordinary just CS4 and words/excels, etc However, I want that "OMG this laptop is amazing, look at the graphic on that game!" feeling for the first moments when I own it. After that, I will just stay happy without worry about specs :)

Anyway, can anyone comment/give input/advice, etc?

    Thank you in advance :D

    Hello,

First, sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I would like comments from users of this particular box.

I am in desperate need of a new box. I am not a gamer and looking for comments about CPU load and noise for this rig from people who use it.

Anyone have the I7-6 or 7 in this unit with single SSD can comment about noise and load.

To compare noise level I currently have for last 3 years, and please don't laugh, Asus Z96Js with a 7600 and 72K drive. It gets hot and the fan on say stage 2 of 4 would be the loudest I would want any book under max load.

I think the 8120 with single vid may be better with the same chip and drive?

Comments anyone would be greatly appreciated.

hmmlaptop- Get the 720 with the SSD. I Have the 2 laptops in my sig and the am blown away at how responsive and quick my Sager is with the SSD. For example the load times are amazing; Win 7 loads and is ready to use in 18 seconds. Another example is the game I run takes about a minute to load in my Asus, takes less than 10 seconds on the Sager. I know from experience the drive is the main reason for the fast loading times.

mjswyers - People’s tolerance for noise varies so much that it’s hard to tell what may or may not be acceptable for you. The two laptops in my sig are pretty close to being the same, with the Sager being a little quieter under heavy load. I cannot hear my Hitachi Hard drive at all. Based on your post, I am not sure why you want such a high end graphics machine, maybe more elaboration on that would help people to help you. Also there is a section of the forum on which laptop to buy, Here you fill out all the different requirement you want in a laptop and people help you with some ideas. Hope that helps.
