But would I need to bend just the sides? The top has a lip which I may not be able to bend too much if the sides are bent out.

Woot! My NP8760 shipped, I should be getting it Friday, can't wait

Hi I just received a w870cu, I have installed all the devices but can't seem to install the lan card. It says device not there. Is there a way to turn on the wired lan like the bluetooth? I went through bios and didn't see anything.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I don't actually use the lan card, but IIRC, it is a "wake on demand" type that requires a connection for it to be energized and visible to device manager. Plug it in and then install the driver (or see whether it was already installed).
Edit: the only Network Adapter that is reported by DM on my 8760 is the Intel 6300 WiFi, even though a network card is installed (but unplugged). -
Same here. I use the LAN at home. I'm not there and its not listing it in device manager.
Using the set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1; devmgmt.msc. I am able to show hidden devices and the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is listed there, its just turned off. Not sure how to wake it up. -
I guess that brings up one question, what is the stock wifi card brand? I dont have a Wireless N router yet so I didnt choose the intel 6300.
But what is the stock one? -
The only driver listed is the Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300AGN. I would assume its this. I have the 6300. -
Ahah, thanks. Forgot to look there. This will be my first Sager laptop, so certainly looking forward to it.
Ive heard the 5300 is a good wifi card, so that sounds good to me. -
Gonna get mine tmrw!!
I'm psyched!

I received it!!
how is the temp though? this is my temp after playing crysis warhead for 20 minutes: attached
so far overall impression.. AWESOME!! design is a lot better than I expected!
So happy..
this all at stock drivers, etc
EDIT: Setting are at "all enthusiast level"
EDIT2: Just cause 2 20 minutes, directly took the screenshot too (Second attachement)
-
considering that your ambient temp is 30-35, and didn't do an ICD 7 thermal paste replacement, it's a good temp.
-
Hi fzhfzh
Yes today is very hot in Singapore. I don't dare to open anything, so yeah, all are stock (the thermal paste is also stock, not artic silver, etc).
Are you sure? cause I'm so happy with this machine right now! barely any fan sound (not even on silent mode yet) and running those games the laptop not even hot to touch, just very slight warm at the upper keyboard area :O
any more test I should do before being very content with this?(returning to my home country in 2 days, so need to check everything if there's a malfuction or not )
-
You can try running a furmark to see the extreme temp, though it will probably make you want to replace the thermal paste.
-
thanks for the reply! furmark, downloading
One problem,my second HDD isn't detected, what can I do to make it appear? -
Are you using raid? if you are, you will only see one hard disk.
-
I'm not sure.. I can see it on the device manager but it doesn't appear under "computer"
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Then you're probably in RAID0 with one partition. What is the size of your drive C when you go into its properties?
-
if it's 900+gb, it's a raid 0, if it's 400+ gb, it's likely a raid 1, though I doubt you will be using raid 1.
Hmmm... wait, you are using a SSD, I would not advise on using raid with SSD+HDD. -
err.. never mind.. havent formatted it yet.. >_>
I'm so happy(downloading 3dmark 06 now)
I just want to thank this forum to help me choose my next laptop I really glad I chosen this laptop

So what are your temps with Furmark?
-
Hi,
there I attached. What kind of setting should I run the furmark? that wason stability mode? I am guessing wrong setting? -
Yes, it's the correct settings, 89C for memIO is quite good on stock paste, your dispIO which is the core temp is probably still 8-9C lower.
-
Thank you for the reply again, I'm so happy to hear that
I ran 3dfurmark 06 with this result as attached.
so, last question, any other thing that I need to download/check before I can declare to myself that this machine is safe to keep? -

Is there any possible side effect running furmark? after I ran mine my normal usage temp is raised to 60C. If not then I'll run it again later after I finish installing loads of programs :O
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Edit: Given your ambient temps, using the downclocking technique when in 2d/desktop operations would be particularly beneficial. It will ordinarily reduce idle temps by 8-10C. -
Thank you for the replies again.
I kin of confused. Kevin do you want me to test with or without the msaa sample? I though you did, then I decided to run it again, only now at my air-conned room. result is as attached.
The revelator, thanks for the reply, I beginning to understand the purpose of furmark
Is that the downclocking method in the sager/clevo thread I saw? Thank you I will try to downclock it after I am done installing load of apps >_< -

@hmmlaptop: Those Furmark temps are excellent. You do not seem to have any cooling problem, at least in A/C rooms. LOL.
-
Alright, I'll do that again later kevin
I need to move to a hotel soon, I'll do it by then
@the revelator LOL that's true XD too bad later when I return to my usual everyday activity, I can get air conned room only around evening.. -
Guys what Accidently compressed my bootmng and now the windows won't start. Any idea how I can repair this problem?
-
I think you can boot to the windows 7 CD and run a fixmbr. I think there is another one but I can't think of it right now. -
Yeah exactly what I did.. I was trying to save some space so I tried that. Any idea how to run the said command that you mentioned please? I'm not to
familiar with windows 7.. Thank you. -
Alright. I ordered some MX-3 and some 1mm thermal pads. I put the 1mm pads on the 3 grey chips(not sure what they are) and the 4 black ones in between 2 of them. Seems acceptable now. Haven't run any graphics benchmarks yet.
Pics: After mx-3 then Before -
Before you do this, please tell me what message you get when trying to start up?
Link
Explination of bootrec
I would try a fixmbr first. If this does nothing, /fixboot. If the entire thing is compressed and just unable to read the drive, you may need to wipe that drive and re-install. Not sure if you can do this just for the boot drive. -
nice thermal that is
I finally able to made it work! thanks alot Marz001! I was so confused on what to do last night..D:
Anyone know why my GPU isn't listed on ALL notebook temp monitor programs? previously it was there, then yesterday I opened again and it was gone. I even tried 3 different programs and all doesn't display my GPU. All I did yesterday was only updating into the new catalyst 1.50 (or something) and that's official from ATI isn't it?
Thanks again and sorry for the questions.

hello everybody!
I need the latest clevo 5870m vbios in .bin format (use gpu-z for save it).
Where i can find it? Anybody have already post this file?
someone can upload it or send me a pm.
thanks for help. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You can get tthe 5870m vbios straight from Clevo at ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/ . You need to use Chrome or Firefox to get access to the ftp board. With IE8, it will ask for a username/PW. Once in, click on "ATI_018.zip", and it downloads automatically. The package includes the Feb, 2010 vbios (the*.018 file), together with atiflash and a dos batch file to update.
-
i find a a solution to open this file with rbe.
-------------------------------------------------
another curiosity
do you know what's the minimum downclock frequency using vbios clevo?
for example you can try 300/300 or even lower numbers. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You can use RBE to modify it, but the file TS35951.018 included in the zip file is a live vbios file that can be flashed as is.
Edit: I use 250/300 for everyday desktop use. Some here go lower at 200/300 or 200/250, but I occasionally run into instability or performance glitches at the lower clocks. I'm sure you can go even lower for short periods. -
Anyone hear ever hear their AC adaptor making noises almost like a hissing noise? heard this when running a OCCT GPU stablity test, the sound is almost like a ZZZZ buzz or hissing sound. I wonder if its time for a new ac adaptor....

Hey, I am a soon to be owner of the Sager np8760 and I have a question, or rather, a request for your opinions.
What do you think the better upgrade would be for an engineering student who will be using CAD programs and such:
4gb to 8gb ram
720QM to 820QM
500GB 7200RPM to 160 Intel SSD
Out of those 3, which would be the best performance upgrade? -

The only thing that has changed since I last wiped is that I installed a 6300 wireless card. Never use my wireless currently, but it'll drive me nuts if I can't get this resolved...
Edit: LOL, so I went upstairs and connected to the LAN. Lo and behold, as soon as I connected it successfully installed the drivers. That's fine and dandy, but I *never* had to do that before and I always do my reinstalls the exact same way. Just don't understand the change. -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
The motherboard of both the W860CU and W870CU today features "Green LAN" by default. It simply activates the LAN ONLY when a cable is connected. This is true to all W860CU/W870CU users, nothing to worry about.
So if you're updating drivers, you should do it while the LAN is "activated" or else you will see the "device not found" error.
Hope that helps.
