Do you guys know if the warranty of the Sager NP8760 is transferable?

Barbones are ready to order now for the W880CU - NP8850.

I'm RMAing the battery back to Malibal and they're going to send me a new one, hopefully that fixes it. If not, I'm really not looking forward to having to RMA back my whole laptop and be without a computer while I get a replacement. -
Hey Guys! Does anyone have experience with a TV Tuner for the mini pcie socket that uses the CATV? I'm trying to find one that works well with our machines. Any input would be awesome! Thanks!

Here are some updated temps. I've ordered some memory heatsinks and attached them to the GPU heatsink in an effort to reduce the temps a little more. So far it looks like I'm getting 5-6c better than without them. I was running about 60C idle at standard clocks. I'm now steady at 54-55c. Ambient is about 22-23c.
I'm going to be doing a little more testing. I've also ordered some Sekisui 5760 thermal tape that I am going to attach the heatsinks with. I'll do some testing to get better numbers for before\after and I'll post a couple pics.
Also thinking of trying some other heatsinks:
VIZO VIZO-CPS-22 Pure Copper Sleet Chipset Cooler
Silver RAMsinks
Enzotech BCC9 Memory Ramsinks - 8 Pack (BMR-C1L)
Attachment is showing screenshot shortly after finishing 15mins of occt GPU test. Nothing reached 90C. Quite happy with this. -
-
Could someone recommend a vinyl, frisket type sticker material for protecting the hand rests and WSAD keys.
-
Picture of how I've placed the heatsinks on the back of the GPU heatsink. Probably not optimal but I will be changing it a little once I get the Sekisui 5760 thermal tape.

I was wondering if there any working clevo ati vbios with lower fan temp thresholds.
-
You can modify fan settings with RBE, but it requires you to acquire a VBIOS. You can try downloading the one from Clevo.
I was able to get atiflash working on a USB drive and pulled the bios that way. Not sure how effective changing the fan settings are. I'd assume they are, but I have no way of monitoring the fan speeds. -

OK. I got it. Just Installed Windows 7 64bit. Now I'm looking for a software that will allow me to control CPU voltage and frequency like NHC in Win XP. Because fans are really loud and CPU fan is constant on. Is CPU heatsink mounted on thermal grease or thermal pad ?
What can i use to monitor/set fan speed ?
Actually my fan sound is close to the one in this post:

I'm having the same battery seating issue as the poster from the previous page. The battery refuses to fit cleanly, and isn't connecting with the contacts unless I push on the battery. As soon as I let go, it disconnects. Looking at the battery shows what appears to be a slight bubble on the inward-facing side. I can't be sure if that's designed, since there aren't too many reference shots of Sager batteries. Anybody else had this issue?
-
Is running this thing with the lid down and the screen off a big no-no? I did that with my previous machine and it worked fine, no heat issues.

@ Zeratul010
Consider looking at your temps with HWMonitor. Try running that with a game or heavy 3d application and ewrite back your cpu and gpu temps. -

I am looking for a desktop I can lug around. I have been doing it for years with a Toshiba P25-S609 - 10.5lbs without the power brick! Also the fans on the Toshiba can be quite loud. Still I am wondering just how loud the 8760 really is. The bang for the buck is awesome:

I have always looked at my toshiba battery as an UPS, I am never away from a plug. I don't live at home during the week so i need a transportable desktop.
I do lots of video transcoding, 3d rendering and sound conversions for our website(The wife and I are ghost hunters). I also race rFactor online and high frame rates with the eye candy is something I can not wait for.
however, I am torn between the HP ENVY 17 and the 8760.... -

It is the best choice for your work. But, if you are playing games, you shouldn't consider anything else but this laptop. Really good reviews!

thanks folks, i really appreciate your inputs

Hey guys, read through a lot of this thread but have a quick question? What are people seeing battery life wise? I don't really care about battery life but want to know what to expect with real life usage. So whats battery life for non gaming, just email and web browsing? I'm always plugged in during gaming.
-
I don't know if anyone else has tried this yet, but I plugged my W870 into a kill-a-watt meter to test how much wattage it uses ant the results are not at all shocking to me.
First off, just have to say I have a 180 watt adapter, and for good reason.
I tested how much wattage it uses while playing Bad Company 2 max settings, the meter regularly read between 150-160 watts.
After seeing these results I thought, how can this laptop be shipped with a 120w adapter, and not experience any kind of problems.
Well just wanted to throw that out there, and BTW that reading was with stock gpu clocks, I'm sure it might be higher if I checked it while overclocked. -
hey guys i want to some infos
i got a deal for np 8760 barebone at usd 950 i really want a 17 inch good laptop
changing from my almost 2yr old acer 7720g
now one of my habit is lying down in bed put the laptop over my chest and browse webs and watch vids and stuffs.
the acer 7720g is arround 3.4 to 3.6 kg with battery and the 8600m gt in it runs very hot at idle its like 65c to 70c even when doing nothing it emits heat
so if i get a sager 8760 i think it weighs 3.8kg with battery does its bottom run very hot or emit a lot heat? how many degress? will i break bones and burn skins if i use it like that? planning to put a i7 620m.
also about warranty sager give 1st year warranty can i purchase additional 1yr or 2yr warranty in total 2yrs or 3yrs wrty after the purchase? how much will it cost? -
It will run cooler than your acer, but by no means would I consider putting mine on my chest while lying down. It is kind of heavy to do something like that.
Do you plan on using this laptop while on battery? If you do, you should know that it lasts less than an hour. -
no i will plug in the power all the time so for heat its settled
another are w880cu and x7200 the same?
or d900f and x7200 same? whats different in specs?
the cheapest 17 inch barebone i see for gtx 480m is 1600 usd
when np8760 launched in october 2009 it was 2000 usd so in 6 months will gtx 480m be at least usd 1100?
also about warranty sager give 1st year warranty can i purchase additional 1yr or 2yr warranty in total 2yrs or 3yrs wrty after the purchase? how much will it cost? -
Power input and output from the adapter are not equal, there will be some heavy loss involved, therefore assuming approx 75% efficiency 160W in = 120W out, so pretty close to the rating... I agree that 120W is still a little low for such a machine, but not as low as you are suggesting.
Also, almost all AC-DC converters are more efficient on higher voltages (ie higher efficiency in Europe/230V to USA/110V)
no, they are different machines. The x7200 uses desktop CPUs and has dual gfx cards, the W880CU uses mobile processors and has a single gfx card.
The D900F is also different in that it has desktop CPU, 1 gfx card and no USB3
I believe you have 30 days from receipt of the unit to extend the warranty if you buy from Sager/Sager reseller. -

New mobile lineup of CPU's tested in the W870CU. The 740QM, 840QM, 940XM...
Tests - Intel Core i7-740QM, 840QM, 940XM - Neue Intel Core i7 Prozessoren im Test auf notebookjournal.de -
As soon as those 940xm's go on sale I'm grabbing one.
Also, I've got a pack of swiftech MC14's coming to follow up on Marz001's idea. -
Hello W870CU owners! I've managed to convince one of my friends to buy this machine (doing my part in spreading the Clevo love!), but there are still a few concerns due to budget restrictions. He also needs this machine immediately (leaves for USA for work term in a few weeks), so the faster these concerns are addressed, the faster he places the order.
He can't go all out on CPU at the moment, but he's planning on swapping to a 940XM sometime in the near future. Question is what would be a suitable CPU as a stand-in? He will be playing games. I'll list off a few: ArmA 2 (plus expansions/mods), Bad Company 2, GTA 4, Fallout 3 (heavily modified), Source Engine games, Empire: Total War, etc. The majority of these seem to be CPU intense games. The highest CPU he can afford is the i7 720-QM, but I'm not sure what's better for his needs: i7 720-QM or the i7 620m? Can anyone give input? There's a $20 difference in price between the two, but I still thought I'd ask since I don't know much about i7 mobile performance.
Again due to budget concerns, he's going to install XP on it temporarily until he can afford Windows 7 (sometime in late July for that). Has anyone successfully done this yet? Someone asked this a few pages back, but they haven't said if they've been successful. He's also well aware that a 5870 + XP = redundant, but remember that it's only temporary.
In order to cut costs, we're sticking with the stock thermal paste, and then once the machine arrives, we're going to re-do the paste with some Arctic Cooling MX-3 that I have. I should be fine re-applying paste to the GPU, but I haven't done it to a mobile CPU before. Anything I should be careful with or any advice for me? Any suggested application methods for a mobile CPU?
Don't have time to read nearly 200 pages (sorry!!) so one last question: Why is everyone getting a 180W PSU? What is wrong with the one that the machine ships with?
Thanks!
TL;DR
-CPU: i7 620m or i7 720-QM? Games will be played.
-OS: XP work okay with this? Temporary solution for 2 months tops.
-Paste: Any tips/advice for applying thermal paste to a mobile CPU? Methods?
-PSU: What makes the Targus 180w PSU better? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
If he's going to install a 940XM in the "near future," I think he would be better served by an i7-620m, as opposed to the 720qm, but I would go further and seriously consider the i5-540m, which is generally $80-100 less than the 620m. Some of these games are going to struggle at higher settings with any of these chips, but the Core duos are pretty impressive. I would also get Win 7 from the outset.
The 120W power adapter will be fine. The greater capacity adapters is really a 920xm issue. Stock paste will do fine for the short period involved. -
Well, "near future" is more like March 2011 sometime. I should have clarified that. So with that cleared up, which CPU should we go for?
Thanks for your input on the other stuff. +rep! -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
LOL. I guess if I was recommending for another, I would choose the i7-620m. It's the safest course because it provides the greater performance right now. If I was choosing for myself with budget constraints, I would probably go with the i5-540m for the temporary use. It truly is a simple cost-benefit analysis choice which depends upon how you weight the two variables.

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The thing with the Targus 180W PSU is that the DC plug is large compared to the one on the 120W units. This puts a lot of leverage on the DC jack. Even though this notebook was made to stay on a desk/table and I doubt anyone would be moving it around during operation that warrants extra care for the plug, the chance of the plug and the jack being damaged if the cord is tripped on is much, much greater than the shorter, right angle plug that the 120W units come with. Be aware of your surroundings of what or who might potentially yank or trip on the DC cord unwantedly.

Same here, I was going to get the Li Shin as well, but I couldn't find it as easily as I found the targus adapter.
As for the XP question, I have successfully installed XP on my w870cu and have a working 5870 XP driver, albeit not completely without issues but it works. The driver i used was the 10.6a drivers and had to manually install, but i still haven't got CCC to work in xp. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
You can always wait for the 180W unit that is meant for the W880CU in a few weeks. It's a bit overkill for the W870CU's needs, but then again I'm using my modded 220W unit for mine at home and a 120W unit for the go. However, you do get the peace of mind that you will be getting a plug that isn't monstrously huge, and a larger heatsink in the PSU itself; the Targus one is slightly small compared to Li Shin 180W units.

now the question is did they change the onboard PSU unit to accomidate the higher strain of a 480 or can I stuff one in here ?
o well It is sold so I cannot test -
