Do you guys know how to change the keyboard? Do you loose the warranty?
-
-
Changing the keyboard is pretty simple, have a look at the service manual in my sig. This should not void your warranty unless you have a really bad reseller.
-
Thanks everyone for the advice. My friend placed the order yesterday. If there's time, I'll post some impressions and pics when it gets here.

Speaking of the keyboard, what do you think of the W870CU / Sager NP8760 keyboard? How's the typing and such. Just making a little log on this. Thanks.

Thanks!

Here are some temps. All of these were recorded after 30 minutes at the designated state(idle\full load). I recorded the max temp after this period was up.
I also picked up a couple packs of these and will be testing either later this week or over the weekend.
I am also planning on trying to cut up some the Vizio sinks to make them fit in more locations since those seem to have the best cooling power. I will likely need to cut some of the Swiftech sinks as well, they are about the same length but a little thinner. -

Very impressive. Will be following your efforts.

Nice work ! You put quite a load of copper there.
I think I'll try that too. Although my temps are satisfactory right now, I'd like to cool it more so fans would not engage so much. -
I'm not sure which display I have, but has anyone else noticed that some solid colors (ie greys) looks "static-like" when you look closely? Kind of like a fuzz tv signal. You can't notice it from more than 40cm away though.

Sounds like bad screen signal to me JohnnyFlash. I' ve heard that this lapy has one of the best screen for G.Laptop. Is this true?

Hello everyone,
I am on the verge of purchasing the NP8760, and I was hoping that one of you had any experience with xoticpc.com. That place seems to be the cheapest if I purchase it completely stock, but if anyone else could recommend getting it cheaper from anywhere else that would be appreciated. -

I went through xoticpc because of everyone else's recommendation on this site. -
Would this adapter work?
It lists 19V 7.9A 150W, which should be fine I think, but I'm weak on electrical knowledge. -

No. 10char
-
OK, why not?

Ah, I just reloaded the page. Now I see the really big image down below. These damn Korean sites take ages to load. Yes, that one does work. I was looking at those two icons in the subheader under the specs.

What dillemma?
I have a W870CU. -

I just did a doubletake on your post, HitokiriZ. I know what you're talking about now. That's way old news. I went with the W870CU because I was used to a 17 incher from my previous notebook, and that I can mod the W870CU a lot more than the W860CU.
-
Ahh I see, thanks. The only reason I ask is because I am in a similar position right now in trying to decide between the two and I was curious as to what you decided.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Both notebooks are stout. The W860CU is just a blocky plastic slate. The W870CU is the same thing, except that it just tapers out more at the front and sides to accommodate the footprint for the 17 inch screen while. Other than size, and size does matter, there are other fetches that makes the W870CU more desirable over it's smaller variant, but I'm sure you know that already since you read through most of this thread.

I got flashed to 1.00.13 and I may be premature, but it appears to have fixed the sleep crashes.

Hey guys, how bad is the trackpad?
-
-
anmatheextreme Notebook Consultant
But it seems almost impossible that both card vendors experience the same sleep problems with different cards. Maybe it's the bios to blame. I had random BSODs on my M570TU when i was on 1.00.11 EC, but when I roll back to 1.00.09 bios with its EC, everything was fine. Maybe a BIOS update will give the solution to you JohnnyFlash.

Are the extreme cpu's overclockable with the eleet tool still? Or does it only work with that unlocked bios?
Reading through this thread is confusing at times. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The latter.

Hello everyone, I have an issue with getting my eSATA connected hard drive to work.
Over an USB connection I can use it as normal, and if I connect it through eSATA I also see the serial number of the hard drive in the BIOS. But when I look in Windows 7 the hard drive can't be seen in My Computer, the Partition Manager and not in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application.
In the BIOS, there aren't much more options than setting the SATA to AHCI as it should be, as RAID is not the way to go. I've tried things like switching the sides of the cable, using another cable, reboot with the drive connected at all times, shutting the drive down and back up, refreshing in the device manager and also in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application, rolling back the drivers and installing the drivers again. And also some combinations of the previously mentioned attempts.
Now is my question: What am I doing wrong? Why won't the hard drive that does work through USB and does show in the BIOS when on eSATA just work? Does anyone have experience with this?
I'm using a Clevo W870CU. -

About your problem, when you connect the drive on e-sata after windows has boot, do you hear the characteristic notification sound? If yes, then you should try the device on e-sata on another computer. If not, maybe windows is to blame! -
I wonder if there is any way to get it working with Windows 7 x64. -

Is the sound card worth the extra price? Or should I use that money to upgrade the cpu to an 840QM? Hmmm, or should I reduce the RAM to 4 GB, get rid of the sound card, choose the i7 740QM, and get a 500 GB HD primary, and a 80 GB SSD as a secondary hard drive? -
I would also recommend using a 5400rpm drive for the 500. It'll use less power and put less heat into the machine. That's just my preference though. -
anmatheextreme Notebook Consultant
He won't see a big difference between 740 and 840QMs. Also the 740QM is a little cheaper. But I agree that you don't need a sound card or a really fast HDD. It's not worth the extra battery consumption. And 4GB of RAM are just fine, unless you want to download four files and gaming while benchmarking at the same time!
-
Well I just ordered mine!!! Cant waittt till it gets here. =D How long did it take to arrive for you guys? I have the standard UPS shipping.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
New owners ordering with the new CPU's. Please post some benches on the new 740 and 840QM, and 940XM's, since these are shipping now...
-
anmatheextreme Notebook Consultant
it is a little bit dificult that anyone will buy such an expensive cpu as 940XM. So benchmarks will be rare. But I am really sure that this new monster will fly
