Johnny, I have two HDDs installed in the notebook and it is barely warm! It is also very thick model so should be no problem with cooling! IMHO of course.

Well just got my new Sager NP8760 from Xotpic out the door $1978
this is what I got
i7 840
Ice thermal compound
4 gigs ram
intel wireless 6300
Windows 7 premium
ATI 5870 card
HDD 500@7200
is this a pretty fair price??? -
Hey question will the 1tb hdd from newegg fit on the sager np8760? If not what is the fastest and biggest hdd I can put in the second hdd place on the laptop?

So I believe the price is reasonable. Assuming that you left the rest at default. -
yes I did. you know what size hdd will fit in the second hdd location/

A 5400 RPM disk is pretty slower than a 7200 one, but the last consumes more battery thatn the first. You should think :"Do I want more battery life or performance and really good read/write speed?"
For the benchmark question, basically in this forum the FutureMark products are the most famous, but you can also use FurMark Benchmark. You can also use FurMark to stress test your GPU, in case you didn't know. -
-
Can I ask out of curiosity why did you ordered such powerful processor? It gives literally no/very little effect in the games in comparison with Dual Core processors, from what I have read. -
read some good things about it also, I like power might upgrade to a extreme later. If I do I can get more money for the 840 than a 740 thats why..

Live and learn. I'd hate to use a 5200 RPM drive as an active drive. 7200 RPM drives sometimes seem painfully slow.
Thanks for the information and links. -
With the memory computers have now it will be easily compensatedIMHO, of course.
-
-
Actually, having experienced a SSD, even a 10k+ raptor feels slow now, and 7200RPM is just kind of painfully slow for me right now, simply surviving as the main drive until intel G3 arrives, and I'm going to switch with a 160gb SSD immediately.
-
I just bought one. It arrives in early august

Um, you know you can get the 1333MHz ram for no extra charge right? I mean you did get the quadcore. Call them up or send and email and get it changed.
-
Yeah but the difference isn't noticeable from what I've read? Even if it were, I was reading that only overclockers would notice the effect. I don't plan on overclocking at all.
-
-
What I meant is that there is very little difference between 5200 rpm & 5400 or even 7200 rpm, unless you have a lack of memory or an application intensively working with reading/writing on harddrive - such as video editing.
In most of the other cases - there is additional a few seconds delay while something is being loaded. Once it is in the memory - no difference.
While on the other side with 5200/5400 there is less cooling issues - hence less power consumption or reliability due to overheating the drive. IMHO, of course. -
but they will have a significant difference in randon reads like when you open a program. -
YAY!!! Scheduled DELIVERY AUGUST 2nd!!!! WOOT!!! Only took like 3 days to build, niceeee.
-
Well just got mine in and it is awesome only thing I dont like the the mouse pad it right out sucks. Also, is there not a place when you can overclock everything like the asus have?
-

So I just bought a used 8760 from PMcar99 off the forums and the thing is perfect except for one minor problem, I've installed 10.7 and it won't recognize the card. Device Manager shows VGA adapter and in the advanced settings on the Display menu it shows Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Chip Type ATI ATOMBIOS and Total available graphics memory at 16mb.
When he sent the laptop he did a full clean wipe of the laptop so I reinstalled windows to it and made sure that it was fresh. I still can't get anything to recognize this ATI card for some reason.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you! -
You may need the newer vbios for your card. The early vbios only worked with the clevo/sager drivers.
-
Anybody running SC2 on their rig, how's the performance?
-
-
-
-
Why? I am rather happy with what I get now.
-
No, he means that the W870 is lower resolution (16x9 screen so 1920x1080)
-
I expect it should run pretty good though. -
hi guys i want to know how often does sager updates its chassis?
sager np8760 was released in october 2009 right? so will we see any other update in sept or oct 2010? any news of it?

VS Sagar 8760 Intel i7 740/Radeon 5870.Single Drive No OS (I have Win 7 Ultimate) For around the same price.
The Envy forum is not nearly as troublesome as the Asus forum. They complain of heat and some asthetic issues.
I am really torn between these two units. The Envy has USB 3 which is nice for future considertions however I don't care for big Corps when it comes to service. I like that the Sager has two fans and an open bay for SSD in the future. I prefer ATI over Nvidia because of the throttling issues I have read about regarding Nvidia cards. That may not be an issue on the Sagers. It is strange the older Nvidia costs more than the Faster and newer 5870......The 5850 is about 11% slower...
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I know this is a Sagar enthusiast thread so i want to hear the benefits of the Sagar and resellers. (RK is the closest to me in South Carolina)
I am less about state of the Art than keeping the price under $1600.....Which is the better buy? Best bang for the buck.
The only "game" I really play is FSX which should be a benchmark as it is very hard to get good frame rates on today's machines and it has been out for many years now!
Thanks.... -
well my options
acer 8943g

qosmio Q885 (USD 1099)

Argh....
Seriously....
Argh....
Friday can't come some enough, lol.. -
My 8760CU will be here some time this week...
Second time i have owned this machine but its just to good a value to pass up especially the barebones for me...
I really wanted the 480m model but just could not justify the extra $600.00 for the GPU .... -
That was fast, Quad!
Did you order from RJ? -
Nope i went through another reseller
... Its a secret though
...
Getting a barebones from this reseller is more of a favor then anything else since they dont do barebones ....
Not to mention they would strangle me if i did lol...
I really had my eyes on that Envy 17 im not going to lie but the issues that machine is having i know i would be regretting it 48hours after arrival.... With this i know what im getting since i already owned one....
I really wanted a beefier CPU but the 720 will have to do for now till i can find a better deal on an 840 or the like...
My last 8760 had the 920xm (ES though) and when it comes time to sell it just makes it difficult to move the ES machines and of course on here its not happening at all, so its OEM for now....
If i can find a sweet deal on a 940XM ES though i might have to cave ... -
If you're not OC'ing the CPU, I don't see any reason for the extreme's. 840 should be on par with 920xm with 1-2 FPS difference in games, lower TDP and heat...
-
Yeah thats why i am shooting for the 840 as i dont plan to OC the CPU ...
Problem is the 840s are rather expensive at the moment and the 840 ES($348) are reasonable but its just dealing with the whole ES thing again i was trying to avoid...
So this should do for the moment (i hope) and if i can find a decent deal on an 840 ill bite maybe... -
Actually that's a decent price for an ES. I owned many ES CPUs and the most I've lost from buying one and than reselling it one year later on ebay was about 50 USD. I would strongly suggest going for an ES now and in the mean time search for a good deal on an OEM CPU. From my experience, OEM CPUs perform a bit better ES ones.
-
I am going to toy around with the 720 for abit and if am not happy then ill be looking into the 840...
It is a decent price for sure and i doubt i would take a huge loss selling it if any... I like to be able to sell things here on NBR and when they passed the no ES rule everything changed including my interest in those CPUs...
An OEM would be great aside from the almost $600.00 price tag...
-
Could someone with the BDRW tell me what the model number is?
