Hey Hemi does that also mean that there is a new BIOS, perhaps even support future video cards?

Well looks like I'm gonna have to RMA this computer. First the wireless adapter wasn't working, and I had to switch the leads to get it to work. Now whenever I watch a movie from youtube, etc... on battery power it keeps coming up with that driver display error. I'm not happy about this because it'll take a max of 2 weeks to get back to me, and I didn't expect this with an over 2k laptop. But still overall, besides those problems it is a great laptop.

Others have reported the same thing, and it's looks like a driver issue so far, not hardware. What catalyst are you running?

Hello again! Does anyone knows the exact specs of the lapton camera? I tried to find them but I had not any luck, the only thing that I found is that it is 2 mp. Is this for video or still image? My main concern is wether it is 640x480 or 1280x1024 on video.
One more thing is that I read on the manual (and saw it on the body of the laptop) that it should have a TV tuner. Is this a digital or analogue tuner? All w870cu have this and if not how can I find out if my laptop has it?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

10.8 but I also tried the drivers that came with the driver CD, but both gave me that amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered message.

I just updated my flash and tested it out, with firefox I don't get the crash anymore. I'm running 10.7 on Win7 x64. I did originally get those crashes with 10.4. Is your flash up to date as well?

Could someone confirm that the following parts will work in a Sager 8760? Just want to make absolutely sure.

    OCZ 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model OCZ3M13338GK Newegg.com - OCZ 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model OCZ3M13338GK

OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD3-2VTX240G 3.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Newegg.com - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD3-2VTX240G 3.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

[edit: just got email back from Rjtech, yes all their 8760s now pack USB 3.0.]

You're going to want the 2.5" version of the OCZ Vertex 2 drive for use in an 8760. The 3.5" drives are designed primarily for desktops.

I just received my new Sager NP8760 from XoticPC yesterday and I'm quite thrilled with it.

I still need to go through and update and tweak everything but I thought I'd post and confirm that mine did come with USB 3.0, which I ordered about 2 weeks ago. (Left side, next to the dvd slot)

I have noticed my GPU idle's at about 56-58 C, even with an IC7 paste. This seems a bit high, or am I just paranoid? Should I check to see if the heat sink is making proper contact?

Those are more or less normal idle temps for a 5870 running at stock clocks (700/1000). You need to use the downclock shortcut using AMD GPU Clock Tool to reduce idle clocks to 200/300 or thereabouts, as discussed many, many times in this forum. It will drop idle temps 8-10C.

Yep, I find desktop shortcuts to be the best way. Just to make a shortcut to AMD Clock Tool and add "-eng=xxx mem-xxxx". I have three, 200/250 700/1000 and 800/1100.

Once you get everything tested and you're comfortable, you can can also try undervolting if you're brave. I got pretty great results with it here.

Is there a way to clean the screen on this laptop? Mine has all these little flecks of stuff on it that aren't coming off with the provided cleaning cloth. Could I apply a small amount of water to wipe the screen?

Dampen a folded, clean kleenex and softly wipe down the screen. Then wipe the water off before it dries with a dry crumpled kleenex. Good ones, not the cheap sandpaper tissues.

I too was "burned with the Asus G73JH". I knew the issues with it though...and decided to buy one, test it out...and sent it back to Amazon. It wouldn't hold up and the forums are bursting with posts on the gray-screen-of-death (GSOD) with ways to flash the video BIOS to keep it stable. I don't want any stability issues or to see the acronym, GSOD, ever again.

Through my complete research, I bought a Clevo 870cu from rjtech.com. The only upgrade I got was the intel wireless, which I heard has 3 antennas opposed to 1. I bought a G Skill SSD and 8GB of memory from NewEgg. I will be running the Intel 740 from NewEgg as well.

Mine shipped out and arrives today, so I'll be putting the Artic cooling MX-3 on the processor and GPU and putting it together today. Flashing to the latest BIOS and installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Should be a fun time. I'll post more on my experiences later...

So, I built the laptop last night. Built (which was easy...and I was concerned)...as in...installed the processor, RAM, SSD and removed existing processor and GPU thermal grease and added Arctic Cooling MX-3. Loaded up Windows 7 64-bit...and installed latest drivers for everything. Took about an hour.

Ran Windows Experience Index...received a 7.1 with the processor as the lowest component.

Ran 3DMark Vantage with no issues...received a decent score.

Played some StarCraft 2 on Ultra settings and it ran silky smooth.

Ran Prime95 and a couple other benchmark utilities on the drive and memory and it's stable.

Really impressed with the design (clean) and the keyboard (and I hate laptop keyboards). Really like the subtle display lights for the hard drive, etc. Not hearing the issues with speakers that others have stated. Have not tried battery at all since I just got it and wanted to ensure it was charged.

I had never ordered from rjtech.com and was nervous with a new vendor, yet they pulled through and packed the laptop great and it shipped out on time and arrived when expected. NewEgg always pulls through...so I expect that. :D

So far...best laptop I've owned. Screen is fantastic...system runs fast and smooth. Only complaint is the touchpad needed the sensitivity upped after installing the latest driver in Win 7. Really impressed. Only missing item on this laptop would be a backlit keyboard. I did receive the 870cu with a USB 3.0 port (it's blue at least) which I plan on testing out soon.

Any chance the 470M or the next gen AMD stuff is coming to this laptop?

Edit: Just checked the owners manual for the W8xx CU laptops and in it is mentioned the gtx 470M, so hopefully it is possible.

Is it just me, or the W870CU has been removed from Clevo's website ?

    CLEVO - Series

I think they might be phasing it out and leave only the W880CU. Also, I've noticed that some reseller in EU now offers the 460M as an option for the W870CU / W880CU. The difference from the 480M to the 460M is about 500 euros which means about 500-550 USD in US prices.

Certainly appears that way. Makes sense, given the similarity of the W870CU and the W880CU, but it's always discouraging when your (my) model is phased out.

The W870CU is off the main page of the stylenote.eu website as well. What is funny is when you click on the W880CU it takes you to a page title W870CU but one of the options is Nvidia GTX 480M (along with the 470, 460, ATI 5870, etc)

Then it means that the W870cu has been permanently discontinued and now only the W880CU chassis is available. That's not actually a bad thing as it should reduce costs ;).

This thing was not built to game on the battery, you can't even get 45 min web browsing in full power saving mode.
