Maybe they don't want to encourage people to upgrade. The ridiculous prices might make people consider buying an entire new laptop instead. I am probably more inclined to buy a new laptop with the GTX 470M, a Desktop CPU etc instead of upgrading the GPU.

The included wlan isn't terrible, but the 6300 is better. If it's only $50 more, like most places, I would do it.

I felt the same way. I was seeing them going for around $80 or so on fleebay so I decided the $35 increase was well worth it.

My 8760 is due to arrive on Monday although it doesn't have anything you all haven't seen already. 740QM, 8GB, 460M

Although I was surprised at how fast it shipped.

    Thanks! Ok I guess I'll pick 6300.

How about the IC Diamond cooler for GPU and CPU? Should I pick that too?

    guys how are you doing?

Been a while since I posted here.

I got a problem with my 8760 today. When I booted it up in the first time, the SSD is noticeably starting up a bit late and making a sound, like when you put in a dvd into your dvd drive for the first time or something.. Then it booted up as usual, until the log in.. log in is so slow, I had to wait like 2 minutes and afterwards when I open some programs I need to wait extra for it to respond first..

It really make me feel like I've gone back to a slower machine or something..

The night before I didn't do anything weird, I didnt modify anything. I did bought a new external HDD but thats have nothing to do with the C: drive which my SSD is located. I even unplugged it from the morning now.

    Anyone can help me here?

I just got my 8760 but as I'm in Singapore my laptop is being tested by my mum back in the states before she brings it back for me. She claims the laptop gets quite hot, anyone knows wat sort of temps I should expect right out of the box so I can have her do a comparison to make sure everything is all right and not that some heatsink wasn't pasted properly. I opted for the diamond paste. I7 740m with 5870 ati. 500gb HD

I can honestly say I'm in love with this notebook upgrading from 9262. It's light, it's powerful, it's cold, it's quiet, and the screen is so much better. What more can I possibly as for?

I normally find little things to get annoyed about in pretty much anything I buy, but I can't find anything other than the keyboard (just gotta get used to it).

This notebook is truly remarkable. Let's hope it stays that way for at least a couple years.

    EDIT:

Any way to turn Turbo Mode on for the i7-740QM? I'll probably find it in google in a moment, but I felt I should ask anyways.

    CPU > 45-55 idle / 75-80 load
    GPU > 50-55 idle / 75-80 load

Each machine can vary ofcourse, but these are rough numbers you should be seeing. Keep in mind i7's can run much hotter than Core2's did, so numbers in the 80's aren't terrible.

Has any one ever done a cooling mod on the W870CU ?

The stock cooling is amazing strong and silent.

I'm thinking of adding some copper sinks to the cpu and gpu to
see if better temps are possible.

I just experienced this. Fortunately, my battery bulged out out when it was within a week of the 1yr warranty running out, so I got a new one for free.

You can do it either way. If you request an advanced exchange, they will pre-authorize your credit card for the amount of the battery until you send the original damaged battery back. They paid for the shipping both ways.

Keep in mind that the battery warranty is only 12 months.

I really wish Sager could produce a non-working battery housing that fit in the battery compartment so the laptop would sit stable, especially if these batteries are going to outgas like this.

Another thing that concerns me is that if the batteries are physically cracking due to outgassing, it seems there is a risk of explosion here. I know this is a gaming rig, but that's getting a little TOO realistic! :D

I added alot of copper sinks to both the cpu heatsink and the gpu heatsink, so much so that i noticed it was significantly heavier, but no worries.

I've been getting low temps, 65.5c in gaming on the 5870m in bf bc2 with 10.10 drivers. Although I think I noticed better performance with 10.8. What drivers are you guys using right now?

    I just got my 8760-S1....and, it's awesome!!!

Just a quick question....I thought you could make the CPU work only 2 cores but at a higher frequency....how do you do that with this machine? Manual doesn't seem to have this (or I missed it).

    Thanks.

Btw, I have tried to fix stuck pixels on several laptops and several monitors. Not once have I got it to unstick. Tried all the rubbing techniques and the pixel flashing software techniques. Not a single pixel was fixed and to be honest, I think it's a bunch of hogwash. So, if it's pissing you off, swap machines before the 30 day return policy expires.

Unless the source has more than two channels, you will only hear the top two.
Try a movie with 5.1 stereo and you should hear all the speakers. It does take some tweaking to get it running, but it does work. The sound quality is another matter. :( I wish Clevo would take better sound more seriously, as their laptops are the worst.

    hi all

having a few issues with my new W870CU and wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions. running Win 7 x64

i'm getting some "ghosting" when i drag application windows around on top of other windows - i'm not noticing this on the desktop. i managed to capture a screenshot (blue tint because i drug the window to the top of the screen so it wanted to maximize). see attached.

[update] - i just realized the ghosting only happens when using the Classic theme. why? dunno.

i have the GTX 460M GPU and am using the drivers from Clevo's site, v8.17.12.5912. i tried the drivers from Nvidia (newer), but the installer will not allow them to install. i did not try the Sager drivers, which at this time are a bit older than Clevo's (and i didn't want the branding).

the other issue is the USB ports. i have a HUB plugged into one of the ports on the back and when i enter a sleep state (close the lid), the HUB doesn't power off - it only powers off if i turn off the lappy.

a 3rd issue is the fans - they are rather loud (coming from a thinkpad). i was told by one of the vendors that you have to practically put your ear to the notebook to hear them. this is not true in my case. temps for both the CPU and GPU are running around the mid to low 40's at this moment and i can clearly hear the fans kicking on and off - they're just a bit loud for my taste.

From my experience with Windows 7 it does not turn off the power to the USB bus like XP used to.

Fans are a subjective thing I am afraid. I don't really notice it that much myself, but I am older and have a lot of loud concerts under my belt. (AC-DC- Who, Yes, Scorpians, Etc...) so my sensitivity to that kind of sound in not that acute.

As far as the ghosting, I am not sure what would cause that.

I have the 5870 and I get ghosting too. Mostly when gaming and even when I use an external monitor. It's a bit disappointing after spending so much and hearing so many good things about the display.

I've had my Clevo for about two months now and I keep getting a problem that I've had from day 1. Every once in a while the computer just boggs down like when you have too many tasks running. However, I ran a cpu moniter and noticed that the cpu isn't working hard at all. I mean not a single core seems to be running high and yet the computer just becomes unresponsive. I can't get the taskbar to come up or anything. I have to hold down the power button and restart. Any ideas?

Have you ran any programs that display your temperatures? That's the first thing I would check. If your temps are high that could cause something like what your seeing. Also you may check your hard drive to be sure it does not have some kind of problem. You could download and run Drive Fitness Tool for that.

These are my temps while converting a Video_TS file to .avi format. It's been at it for 30 minutes. I don't think it's temps because it often happens when the computer wakes from sleep, but not always. Another thing is it has never happened while gaming which seems to be the time the computer gets hottest.

I had two defective G73JW's before I decided to ditch ASUS and pull the trigger on the Sager NP8760, with a 740QM and GTX470M. Just wanted to ask what the overclock capabilities are with the GTX470M, but it seems not too many people have it.

I guess I should start with MSI Afterburner huh? ;)

nah, use EVGA precision, i like it better, and try to get an OC without upvolting it at all...

try 580 up from stock 535 and see if its stable, then go up a bit from there. do not expect this to hit stock GTX 460 SE clocks (650) stably, i do not know, but it may be possible...

Hand editing the BIOS is the manliest way to overclock.
