Well, I asked Justin W in the Live Chat and he told me that he cannot do that since it's against company policies.

Thanks for asking! I certainly don't want anyone to get in trouble by having them violating policies, but I do have to say that's a rather odd policy, at least from my perspective. Then again, I'm not in the notebook reselling business so maybe it's common sense to them. Oh well.

For those of you who have the W870CU can you check your driver CD's and see if the bios is on there? I'm trying to help out hosting bios files since apparently Clevo doesn't host them, or if they do, do a terrible job at it. If you've got it let me know and I'll give you my email, or I can set you up with an FTP real quick to upload it.

Well, I don't think there's anything wrong when the "customer" posts the pics we're asking for
-
do both W860CU and W870CU have identical cooling solution? as in same size heatsink and fan? i am trying to figure out why W860CU BIOS does not allow OC, because im not really satisfied with the "better cooling" answer given for the W870. if both of these laptops have identical HSF, i dont see why W860 gets left out from the OC domain. thanks in advance
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Yes they "fairly" have the same cooling system, not sure about the sizes though. They W860CU doesn't allow OC'ing to protect sales of W870CU. -
It seems so, yes. By the way, can anyone post a W860CU BIOS. I might check it out and see if there is any hidden overclocking option in the BIOS.
In the M860TU I found that there is indeed in the BIOS some indications that it supports unlocked multipliers, because it has some hidden functions for unlocked multipliers. However the BIOS of the 900F has no trace of any OC functionality. So who knows... -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Woot, that's a nice idea
-
I'd be interested in looking at that as well.. So for you lucky owners, if possible, please share your 870/860 bios immediately. That is all.
-
They should just request it from their reseller I guess, there is no way to download it from Clevo's website. I will be here to deal with it, have no worries.
-
Yeah, rather annoying. I was hoping they (clevo/sager/whoever) might've included a copy on the drivers CD.
-
I have emailed RJTech asking for the W860 bios, hopefully they'll give me a copy.

What's the noise factor under load? While gaming?
-
no, cooling solution is different but they use same motherboard
-
they don't come on the drivers disk - you need to request them. Check with Avadirect or Eurocom - they are pretty good with BIOSes
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
same motherboard?
So you could just flash the W870CU BIOS on the W860CU?
have you had time to take the pictures of both laptops side by side?
-
wow .... is this for temperature or vibration testing? or both? Anyway - will post post tomorrow
-
there is different BIOS for each model. Technically you could make W870CU to W860CU and vice versa. I will take pics early next week - I am on the road till Thursday next week
-

Ok Panther911 thanks
Keep us posted.
-
If someone can provide me with these BIOS I could have a look and see how similar or different they are. It can be helpful in figuring out the risks of flashing one laptop with the BIOS of the other.
-
yeah, keep us posted. the prospect of being able to OC on W860.. hope.. and how different exactly are the two HSF? is the HSF on W870 much bigger in dimension?

"In the news today, Sager NP860CU users were overjoyed when they discovered they could flash their BIOS to the NP8760 and overclock their Extreme chips in their 15.6" chassis notebooks to 2.53ghz x 4, and a max of 3.73ghz x 1"
"In other news of the day, the core temperature of the planet earth inexplicably rose by 2 degrees.....more details as they develop.." -

Anyone else have their system yet? I still am impressed at the small form factor of this one. Guess I've been used to larger systems like the D900 and Alienware and such. Excellent low temps and not too bad of 3DMARK score for one GPU with stock drivers and a little OC.
-
Sadly no.. I still have to look at yours daily to get my fix in.
I did push up my order date though, once Dec 3 hits the order goes in!
-
I would expect a CPU over 5K...keep working at it!!
-
what did u OC to get this screenshot? the CPU is obviously not OCéd, because it's showing as 2GHz max in both 3Dmark06 and Turbo Boost tool, so what's the OC setting for your GTX280M?
-
Anyone knows what display this uses? I am hoping is the LG 300 Nits
-
You can use everest to see the display model and other software. I use everest thou.
-
I would but i dont have the laptop

Many come with new HannStar Displays that have just been released. Mine looks great. The brightness, colors, and contrast is very nice!
Everest report is:
Monitor Name Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID HSD06A5
Model HSD173PUW1
Manufacture Date Week 36 / 2009
Max. Visible Display Size 39 cm x 23 cm (17.8")
Picture Aspect Ratio 16:9 -
babyhemi, how's the sound from the built in 4.1 system? How's it compared to the m17x you used to own?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The M17X sound from the laptop itself was a little better. I used the X-FI Creative card in both and the sound is fantastic! Laptop by itself is so so. -
well i tried to get the W860 BIOS. No luck. This is what RJTech said to me:
-
I've been lurking around on NBR's forums for quite some time now, but I wanted to come out of the shadows to validate babyhemi's observations above. My Sager NP8760 was delivered today (as a box inside a box!) and I also have the same HannStar display model (HSD173PUW1) that babyhemi has.
Initial reviews of the NP8760 screens were mediocre at best, so I had my reservations. But the moment I booted up this laptop, all my fears were put to rest! It is an absolutely gorgeous display. The brightness, contrast and colors are incredible and have blown me away so far. -
I think most of those reviews are based on the preproduction model... it was there to show off Intel's new processor quality, not to show Clevo's notebook quality.
-
congrates! and good to know the LCD quality is top notch in the W870. quick question, how many HDD did u opt for? if it's one, then is the 2nd HDD bracket (or caddy?) included so u can upgrade yourself later?
-
I would assume it came with the caddy/bracket, though I'd be happy if an owner could confirm. I see the older model brackets are available for ~$10 USD if it came to that.
-
i would prefer a confirmation because resellers often overcharge for 2nd hard drive, or they dont sell the type of hdd you want. and having to pay and ship for it is of course, a pain.
-
I went with two hard drives, an 80GB Intel X25-M SSD and a 320GB 7200RPM HDD. I assume it would come with the 2nd HDD bracket/caddy, if you only choose to go with one HDD to start... but of course, perhaps someone else can confirm that.
On an unrelated note: I haven't really pushed this laptop much yet, but the temps are looking good so far (under normal use, laptop cooler not turned on):
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I ordered mine with one hard drive because I had my Corsair 256 SSD. They included the second HD bracket kit in a plastic bag, no charge. -
Which i7 do you have? Your regular-user temps are good, the HDD idles remarkably cooler than in the M570. My GPU idles at 42C as well, HDD at 43C. The QX9300 remains in the mid 30's.
-
It's in his sig..
-
thanks for the heads up. cheers!
-
Raisu doesn't have a sig, try again
-
you kinda lost me here. i dont see any specs in his sig.
