All of the NP8690's are built by Sager at their factory. The all start with just the shell, so it is not a matter of removing a component to replace it with another component.
As for your phase 1 or phase 2 with Xoticpc, that is not done real time so I wouldn't be too worried about why yours is in one phase or another. The mods have repeatedly said that details like this about specific orders should be discussed with your vendor, not here. -
Yea, but I've been told by a xoticpc employee that no orders are in phase 2 yet as it isn't in stock, but Im just going to leave it and hope for the best

Are you guys picking the 8690 over 8760 because of the form factor? I'm about to order today but I'm still debating.
-
I picked 8690 for a number of reasons
1) Cheaper
2) I like 15.6", 17" is too big/heavy/bulky
3) Battery is slightly better as a smaller screen -
What i'am understanding its the screen problem there waiting for. I order the 1600x900 res.
-
And what I'm understanding is they dont have either screen it, or the unit itself.
-
Based on dimensions, the 8760 doesn't seem to be much bigger or heavier. -
Hey hey! Mine is in Mississauga about to be placed on a truck for my house! Woot!
-
Yea, but it is slightly bigger and slightly heavier still.
Also, its over $300 more -
Fair enough, though I priced it out to be only $200 more. It seems the HannStar 1080p display is better than the AUO found in the 860 as well. -
-
Im used to a cracked hp screen that was 13" and had a resolution like 640x800
This will be fine for me.
Pricing out the 8760 with the same specs(and I would upgrade both hds to 320gb 7200rpm it is a bit more.
I would do it, but $130 shipping+13% tax+ CAD is weaker than USD so I couldnt -

I just got off the phone with Justin N and asked for a comparison of the W860/W870. I had to pull a Soviet on him at the end of the conversation based on what I was told because now I can't decide which to pick. Here's what he told me (based on his opinion):
Display:
---------
G51J vs 8690 vs 8760: Although both G51J and 8690 have AUO, he says the 8690 panel has better blacks and much better viewing angles. Brightness is comparable. He felt the 8760 panel wasn't as vivid and lacked the "pop" of the 8690 AUO display. His personal pick between 8690/8760 was the 8690.
Size:
------
He was nice enough to grab both machines and he placed the 8690 on top of the 8760 and said the 8760 was about 1 inch wider from the left side and 1 inch taller and about 1-1.5 lbs heavier (I can't recall the exact weight he said). When I asked him if the 17.3" display looked much bigger than the 15.6", he said in person it barely looks any bigger.
Sager machines aside, my first experience with Xotic has been very positive. He was patient in answering my questions and very honest--something that I appreciate with resellers. I'll definitely be placing my order with Justin, I just gotta figure out now which machine I want. -

Go for the G51J, haha. The guys in the Asus forum are going to call Benedict Arnold on you.

joker, if you can wait another few weeks more people will be getting those 3 laptops(w860cu/8690 mainly) and will be making more detailed reviews.
There is already atleast 1 reviews of the g51j on notebookreview. People like chinoobic will be posting(hopefully) detailed reviews of the 8690. I will be posting a detailed review of the 8690. The 8760 I havn't been following, but a few german reviews have popped up(notebookjournal.de)
g51j reviews

Im too lazy to find the 8760 reviews.
if you can be patient, you may get a better insight -
I'm not interested in the G51J at all. I have the G51-X2A right now and I'm selling it. I think I'll wait to see what chinoobic thinks of his machine. -
I'll still visit the copper and drill thread to taunt them with my new sager's dual fan cooling once I decide on which to buy. Too bad alienware's are so damn atrocious looking. Does anyone know if the AW m15x is mxm 3.0b? Edit: seems to be mxm 3.0b. I'm surprised Dell didn't mess with it like Asus by making it proprietary. -
What about me joker? Im giving a review to

My laptop is here!

1)Take pics
2) Make a 30 min video review
3) spend 5 hours writing a reviw
4) spend a hour editing review
5) Spend a week admiring laptop
6) Is it a hinge to open or magnet or what -

Looked over the 8760 vs 8690 some more and decided the 8690 is a better fit overall. Ordered it with Justin a few minutes ago. Here's the specs:
CPU: i820QM
Ram: 4 GB
Display: 1920x1080:
HDD: 500 GB 7200 rpm
Hopefully the AUO panel doesn't disappoint, that's my biggest worry. Justin said it looks better than the one found in Asus w/out the viewing angle limitation so that sounds promising. It should ship out in about 5 business days and then take another 3-4 through ups ground. So hopefully in about 10 business days I'll have it. -
The hinge is tight and sturdy to keep the lid down when close. No latch, magnet nor any mechanism to take away the laptop from looking really clean.
Oh yeah 5150joker, welcome to the darkside! -
What stage is your order in?
Ive been told it takes 3-7 days to be made and it will be in stock this week but not yet, yet your told 5 days untill its shipped. -

Im just going to assume you got the w860cu soviet
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I'll let you make your guesses. It might be the W860CU. But I will tell you this. I have already made my decision and will be ordering the notebook very soon. Also, I will be picking up my CPU and RAM tomorrow.
-
Thanks, I'm looking forward to using those copper blocks I've got coming on this baby. Now to unload this Asus.
-
When I check online it says I haven't placed an order yet. So I'm guessing it hasn't updated and probably won't for a little while. The 5-6 business days is based on what Justin said. He also mentioned that the back ordered ones (like yours) will receive priority and ship out first. -
Kk
Hopefully yours will be shipped soon also -
hopefully mine will arrive this friday. LoL my dealer agree to let me try the 720 processor first and within a month i can still upgrade my processor at the same price. cool.
-
hmm do you guys think this lappy is any modable ? like adding those copper to make it cooler. do you guys think there is any room for those copper ?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Maybe. Ask 5150Joker. He's getting his W860CU first.
-
Is this a confirmation? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
You're the first to get the W860CU in the pool of users that wishes to mod it is what I mean. Again, I have not inferred anything and I am very aware of my word choice despite it being very deceiving. So all of you can go shove your bets down your throats, haha.

Apologies if this has already been posted -
The 17.3" version has been reviewed by Notebookcheck-

That is a short battery life
(The 15.6" and 17.3" both have a 42Wh battery, and similar options). -

15" Also has been tested and gotten 2:30 for battery by joseph.

Wonder if Xpc has enogh to fill all the backorders??? This seems to be a very, very popular machine. Can't wait to get my mitts on one and put it through its paces. Has anyone messed with the XP virtual machine that comes with 7 pro yet?? If so how do you like it and can you switch or install the 32 bit XP??

Right now I don't think I'm going to mess with it. I'll just use plain old Virtual PC to run XP, as well as a physical XP installation that I can boot into should "something terrible" happen to my Win 7 install. -
Im running windows 7 ultimate on my desktop, and I havn't come across this feature.
Theres xp compatiblity, just like you could run things windows 98 compatible theirs xp sp1 sp2 and sp3, but I havn't seen a virtual machine.
