In that case, your temps are normal. That one critical detail nulls my entire explanation above for people that live in warm regions.

Ok, just received mine and I'm experiencing exactly the same problem, only difference is that putting brightness on extreme low makes it even worse, only max brightness works. Looks like I cannot send pm's and I'd like to ask those users about how they dealt with the issue. It proves to be very annoying and I already complained to my Clevo reseller.
I'm wondering is if that's something really serious or maybe some small thing that could be fixed easily even by me ?

I think the problem appears only in HD panels, previously I had 1600x900 and no flicker at all, but it had a stuck pixel and since I had to send it back due to other problems I decided to upgrade the screen at the same time.

I'll try to record something but it needs some good camera, I tried to make a vid with my cellphone before but the refresh rate is too low and you cannot clearly see that effect in the end

to give you an idea, here's a movie from youtube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBFXJKy0FRU

it looks very similar but it's not as strong as on the movie and seems to appear only when certain colors or gradients are displayed, dark or white colors seem to hide it.

what drivers are you both running ?

I had a similar issue when I OC my 285M and updated the drivers, reverted back to old stock drivers and seems to work fine. I also have the full HD screen.

    Hi all,

As I promised yesterday, I posted up my initial review of the Steelseries Siberia V2 USB headset. I made a separate thread in the Accessories area, so others can hopefully benefit and/or chime in. Here's the direct URL - please check it out and post up any questions that I might be able to try and answer!

    Uhm, YES.

Damn... I didn't realize that's how badly Sager slathers onto their boxes. I was going to be lazy and leave mine alone, but not after seeing that mess! *sigh* Guess I'll be re-doing mine later this week.

 Looks like they used half a tube on that. The person who did that was suffering from an extremely common condition. Thermal Paste Paranoia or (TPP). They know that a small amount will be better but just to be on what they think is the safe side, they apply too much out of paranoia lol.

Well guys, Bad Company 2 runs flawlessly on high settings in DX9 mode.
DX10 created some very fun intermittent artifacting.

    Thought you'd like to know.

Edit: stock GPU/CPU clocks and 1600x900 native res.

I just bought my first NP8690 :) apparently with a HD 5870 too....this will be a nice upgrade from my POS Toshiba with a Mobility 9000 :D
    I wanted to say hi!
and should I have upgraded to an 820? i dont think it will effect game play all that much, and I dont run really intensive engineering apps...yet.

alright so today the price went down again on the NP8690 so I decided since it went down, I could just not do the $40 IC diamond upgrade and do the 820 upgrade instead...then its only $130 more than i was originally paying. that sounds reasonable. right? good. i mean how bad could sager's stock thermal paste job be?

oh but now the poll is inaccurate. forgive me. >.>

Its fine but Sagers stock thermal paste isnt bad its just the way they apply it that makes it bad.

The price went down because of components, specifically the cheaper MR 5870. The barebone W860CU is still the same.

That's okay. I vote in polls in the Asus and Alienware threads just to throw off the results too.

Sorry to bump the thread, but i have been given the option for either a gtx 285m or a Ati HD5870m and i cant decide.
    Is the 128bit v 256bit a bit issue?
From around the net people are saying the 5870m should be compared to sli gtx 285m?
Yet on Xotic Pc its cheaper for HD5870m? I have no idea which to choose. Help appreciated :)

well on pure gpu power get the 5870
i still feel however that nvidia gpus in general have more games optimized for them and their drivers at this point.
however between the 5870 vs the 285 id pick the 5870
plus the 5870 is even cheaper

    Get the 5870.

    -Cheaper
    -Support for DX11
-Should be better performance (early benchs seem to show this)
-Draws less power (cooler and quieter)

Ye no matter what you do there is always something bigger and better around the corner. Your better of just getting the best that suits you at that time. The 285M and the HD5870 will both run new games with the exception of the 5870 giving you DX11 and some extra FPS in SOME games, and by the time they cant a new GPU will be out.

yeah and the only game where ati consistently outperforms nvidia is called "3dmark06"

not that im an ati hater or anything like that.
ive just been used to using nvidia, but i do like the price point of ati gpus.

I guessed as much. I asked SagerNotebooks.com directly and they told me that I can just swap the card on my own but I'd need to purchase the card. Even though my system is just a week old. I guess I'd have to wait a while to get the card then....

I have just sendt my NP8690 back to get a free upgrade to the 5870. I have to pay both way shipping which is bi*ch but small price to pay for the fastes card around, especially since it doesnt look like Nvidia are announcing anything at CeBit.
