From a business point of view, it makes more sense for them to promote the purchase of new laptops rather than a single new part. I wonder if that has anything to do with it :p

i was gonna get 120 Watt Netzteil - Gamer Laptop: Gaming Laptops und Notebooks bei Notebookguru.de , however i'm not sure if its compatible with the w860cu (guru fire i7)... also notebook guru won't reply to my emails... their after sales sucks!

    thanks guys

    P.S. adapter spec: 18.5V*6.5Amps =120Watts

I got a spare from Ebay, you can get one by searching "NEW Genuine LI SHIN 0227A20120 20V 6A AC Adapter 120W"

I mostly use a similar one that is 160W so my 120w one gets less use but I am sure it is fine. Be sure to check the shipping country exclusions if you want to buy from Ebay. You can get some from official resellers but expect to pay over 50% more.

I'm sure MXM Upgrade Home Page will get them in a while, maybe they already have some samples, ask them. You can also contact your reseller, they should be able to sell you one.

i'm using windows 7 32 bit, but my ram onlyusable for 2.11 gb, other 1.9 gb are hardware reserved. I can't use an 64-bit windows because most of my software only run in 32 bit -_-"
any idea how to at least enable usable ram to 2.5-2.7 gb?

as long as i could rember, i've done that ( the 4gb-fix bios). at first, it only show 2 gb installed. Now, it show 4 gb installed ( 2.11 gb usable). i need usable ram for about 2.5-2.7, for certain game and software ( trainz 2009, need at least 2.2 gb for merging certain route.)

    any idea?

Get 64-Bit and install VirtualBox to run your 32-Bit software.

i think i should just tell the problem :
    1. i can't install the 64-bit, because most of my driver ( modem, adapters, etc) will only run in 32-bit
    2. i can't install 64-bit with dualboot, limited HDD capacity ( already got 3 os ( look at my sig), and i use them all)
    3. basically, i only use windows 7 32bit to gaming, doing some simulation, and browsing. i got ubuntu for emergency back-up in case my windows 7 messed up ( already happens many times).
    4. some of my game ( auran trainz 2009, PES 2011) tend to be error in 64-bit

i do need that 2.5 gb, because my trainz 2009 ate RAM till 1.8 gb ( barely made it after killing other task), but it only got half route. there are still half of route for trainz 2009 ( i'm merging route from JAVA island, 1/3rd from the total route already ate till 700 mb, and it jumps till 1.8 gb for half route. still got other half)

xry for brothering you.. ( well, in here it already 11.00 pm)

i see here that you use ubuntu and clearly i dont know much about that OS's but can it utilize the 4gb ram ? if it does that leads to the next question, can this trainz run on it ?
it might seem stupid since i dont know a lot about the ubuntu, but hopefully this helps.
btw that is the third OS :p

my 460m was not yet installed, i am still waiting for my thermal paste, same with yours i ordered ic diamond 7, currently i am using my old gtx 280m. once i installed my new card, i'll post benchmark and temp as well.

can you feel the difference between 2 cards (280m vs. 460m) in gaming?

Yes a big difference! I was expecting a little increase, but experienced a large improvement. FYI- my 3dmark Vantage GPU score raised about 2200 points (no other changes were made to my computer)!

Under stock clocks, it's about the same as the 280m, but when you overclock it, it will achieve much higher results. :) enjoy it!

2200 points!! that's really huge!! thanks for these forum i learned a lot before i plop my 350$. i am choosing betwen mr5870 and 460m, and i find out 460m win. It is worth upgrades from 280m to new gtx 4xxm. With DX11 + 192cores, we know how will it perform at its best. :)

Once i installed i will post benchmark and results. I hope it will surpass at 14k (3dmark06). also I'll do some dx11 benchmarking.

I hope no one here is prejudiced against FOSS. That would make many people very sad. I'm a proud owner of a new W860CU and I was hoping to join the community here, if no one minds me not using M$ products (i find them too expensive, bloated, and pretty much useless for anything useful other than gaming)

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and hope I'm not interrupting too much. I'd like to know if anyone has eve thought about transplanting the optical bay for another internal hard drive (or if it could actually be done). It'd be nice to have an ssd for booting and a standard drive for storage in the system. It'd be much more efficient in the long run for me, since I always have an external optical anyway. I could just use an external drive, but then I would 'always' have to have it connected for /home partition to be mounted... and that's just not feasible, as I'm sure some of you might agree.

    Anywho, hello, and thanks!

Oh, sweet! just what I have been looking around for! Ordered it, so it should be here in about a month or so. Can't wait to get my SSD in there permanently. Thanks for the link!

Just bought a 3G card from the same seller. Hope that it plays nice with the computer and all. Anyone else buy a 3G reciever for their 860's?
I decided on this one, since it also has GPS coverage

    In short 840 = new 820

What do you guys think, would it be possible to put a 15.6' WUXGA screen in the laptop? That would add 120pixels in height.
    i found them on ebay for a Dell Insprion 15 1545 :p

Im always using 1920x1200 24inch screens, would be fun to see a tiny 15.6inch screen with the same resolution hehe..

unfortunately a WUXGA screen has the wrong aspect ratio and therefore the wrong dimensions to fit into this chassis.

Just got my laptop back. They did not replace my mainboard, however, they were kind enough to replace my GTX 260M with a GTX 285M for free. The ingame problems are gone, but when I run prime95 and furmark, my laptop shuts off after like 10 mins. It has nothing to do with temps, as they are fine. So I guess the PSU or motherboard is not delivering enough power, which should not be the case, as the W860CU is known to work with this kind of hardware and I'm "just" using a 45W TDP CPU (athough it draws like 60W under Prime95 with 8 threads, at least that's what HWiNFO tells me). That 120W PSU is pretty under designed but it should not shut itself down in this kind of situation, right? Of course I didnt overclock the GPU, everything at stock. It's important for me to know if this is normal (don't think so) because it seems like there is something wrong with the power circuit on the motherboard (or my PSU), and that's why the GPU gets damaged over time...

I didnt tell them about the power shortage thing just yet. Got the laptop on dec 23, I'll contact them on dec 27, but I doubt that anybody there will be working... so I guess I'll have to wait till january.

I asked them to simply replace the whole laptop, but they dont seem to be able to trace the problem or recreate it, although this new problem is very easy to recreate.

Maybe it has something to do with the new bios version they installed (1.18/1.00.11), but that would be very weird. I made a post about the new bios here - not sure what its purpose is, GTX 470M or even 6000M/500M support!?

I love the 460! It overclocks like crazy. However, some games will get a higher FPS with the 5870 & some games will get higher FPS with the 460. Both are good cards and you wouldn't be disappointed with either one. I've just always had nvidia so I felt comfortable with them....so I bought the 460.

Johnny, this late into the year, you might as well wait the month or so for the GTX 580M or AMD's 6900 series.

Both are like two weeks from being officially announced. You'll regret buying anything right now.

it should....so long as they are MXM 3.0b. Either way, you are better off to wait b/c if they will work then you will get a better card for the same amount of $, and if they wont be compatible, you can get a 460 or 5870 for cheaper. If you can wait, I would....but that's just me.

It will still be MXM 3.0b. Even if the GTX 580M and HD 6990M will be 100W, there will be a 570M / 6870M that has 75W and will fit the W860CU. They should release some bios for it as well, otherwise you can always flash the W870CU bios.

    Nope, powerplay (downclock) doesnt work..
But with amd gpu clock tool you can do it yourself and clock it even lower as powerplay.
Or if you dont need hdmi you can flash an msi vbios on it (tried it myself)

On a side note, i ordered my w860cu from deviltech and they installed a ati 5870 instead of the geforce 460 while on the shipping list it says geforce 460.
I hope i dont get warranty issue's :p and maybe i can get a geforce 460. (havent told them tho..)

Unless Clevo is about to show up to CES with a brand new, never before seen 15" chassis, the Sandy Bridge machines should just be a W860CU with revised motherboard.

There is a chance, that the new BIOS will be incompatible with older W860s, and that no BIOS will be released for your model, but it's still best to wait and find out.

The GTX 260M isn't exactly scraping the bottom of the barrel yet, performance wise. The only game I can't average 30fps in is King Arthur.
