That's interesting, I was under the impression all machines coming out of Sager have the new one, at least ours do. I'm not 100% on how Reflex is set up being a Canadian reseller though, I'd definitely say it's worth a shot to contact them and see what you can do.

Thanks Derek. I wanted to confirm that I got the old keyboard before I contact them. Reflex have been pretty responsive and helpful with me so far so hopefully I can get this resolved.

Yeah I'm sure they'll be able to help you get set up. In the off chance that they tell you that you're out of luck you can always arrange an RMA with Sager directly and ask them to ship you a new version. -
Just wanted to come in here and say I'll be happy to be joining you guys as an owner of a NP9150 hopefully soon. I placed my order 2 days ago with Xotic PC for a fairly standard NP9150 with the 670MX and standard specs. My main thing was music production / recording since i have a desktop to max out pc games, and games on the laptop from med to high settings to pass time. I'm very excited as yesterday it went into Phase 2. I'm hoping it doesn't take long for me to receive it, I'm too anxious.

Congrats! PM your order information and I'll keep an eye on it for you. -
I just got my NP9150 today, and was wondering after reading the past few posts, is there something wrong with the old keyboard? I just got this and the windows button is on the left...

Nothing necessarily wrong with it, it was a hit or miss as to the keyboard quality for sure. You either got a good one or a bad one. If yours is working fine for you, that's great. If you have troubles though, contact your reseller and they should be able to set you up for an RMA. -
I wish my keyboard was on the left. Id also trade this SS for stock keyboard anyday, not having FN functions is killing me.
-
Hey Derek. Is the 4/9 ETA for the upgrade screen an actual date? I was thinking to order this weekend, but might wait a week or so if they are out of stock. Thanks!
-
Mickyy, why do you want it on the left? And which is the SS keyboard?
-
Nevermind. Steel series.
-
On the left only because every keyboard I have ever used to date, except this new one, has always been on the left. So it is just the learning curve or it being on the right.
-
I was under the impression that Win key on the left was the NEW keyboard, and the key on the right was on the older model. I read it here after asking directly because I wanted it on the left but the reseller in my country only had it on the right.
Official pics of the machine have it on the right, which supports this - they were released early on. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
They moved the Windows key to the right so you dont accidently hit it while gaming and you get kicked out of the game. Its uncommon but you can imagine how easy it could be to accidently hit it.
-
Yup. That's exactly why I want to switch to a right win keyboard. I keep hitting the stupid win key when it's on the left.
Hey mana, wanna switch?
-
Odd, I've never hit the windows key when on the left. I see how you could though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
Well I still suck at shooters and get too excited when goes down and then my fingers go crazy and I hit the win key.
I also have to disable the right thumb button on my Logitech mouse because I often hit that by accident and then it goes to application switcher. -
Hey NBR. Haven't been here at all since ~August, apart from two times to ask about cleaning the fans. Still reading through the rest of the topic.
Anyway, I'm back because I recently had a 256GB mSATA m4 appear out of the blue (college reasons), and I'm not 100% sure how to set it up. I've currently still got dual 500GB HDD's in RAID0, and I'd like to use the SSD as an OS drive, and use 256GB of my HDD's for backing it up, with the other 750GB remaining for storage. I've got a 1tb external drive at my disposal for this that's currently not doing anything. Could anyone point me to a good guide on how to do this?
Also, that stock case that came with the laptop kicked the bucket recently and I'm in need of a new one. What other good, durable cases are there that fit this? I'd prefer to stay within $50-70. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
For your set up you'll want to install the OS onto the mSATA drive then all programs and games if you want onto that. For backup it will probably be best to run a dedicated software program to do it. You wont want to RAID 1 it as the mSATA will always be waiting for the slower HDD to catch up. Partition one of the 500GB to 256GB then set up your software accordingly. The rest of the HDD will be just drag and drop backup.
-
So I should partition one of the 500GB HDD's in half, and use one half for backup and RAID the other half together with the second 500GB HDD? I didn't know you could RAID HDD's of different sizes. Or can I keep them in RAID0 and partition that drive into 250GB and 750GB parts?
Either way, it's great to see you just as active on here as you were back in April/June. Good job, Xotic.
Oh... And for the last hour, I've been trying to install the SSD, but there's nowhere to put the screws that hold it in. One side is empty, and the other side has this thing blocking it that looks sort of like a capacitor with a screw in the top. I though this might have been a screw hole with one already in, but the screw seems to be part of it and is absolutely immobile. EDIT- scratch that last bit, I figured it out. I think. Is there anything special I need to do to see the drive now that it's in? -
80c max temp with 99gpu usage in Crysis 2 for over an hour of play. I think this is normal. stock paste from prostar.
but when i increase clocks to 850core 2200 mem temps max at about 87c. seems a bit high considering people have done 950core 2400mem and havent gone past 82 c. friend of mine suggested making sure the screws are tight on the gpu heatsink. maybe a repaste would be needed but i dont want to go through that crud -
Dreading weekends as I wait for my Sager to get through Phase 2.
So anxious to receive this bad boy.
-
This actually makes a lot of sense, thanks! The real question I have is why they added a second backslash key...
-
When did they move the key? I bought mine last summer.
The small "enter" key is annyoing
-
Can someone please post a picture of the "new" keyboard please?
I believe I have the older keyboard with the Windows key on the left and just wanted to compare. So far though, I haven't had any issues with it. *Knock on wood* -
Anyone have the newest drivers for webcam drivers for Windows 8?
The camera is working fine in the metro app, but on the desktop skype the image is stuttering/flickering. -
I only had my laptop for about a week and half and the windows key is on the left. Also the windows key is the windows 8 logo not the windows 7 loigo
-
All of the pictures in Sager's gallery of notebooks with backlit keyboards have been updated to show the new one. Here: http://sagernotebook.com/images/products/9150_3.jpg
EDIT: scratch that, I just noticed they don't. That's odd, a few months ago I was just looking at them...
I really could use a word on what case would be good to buy quickly, as I'll be in town tonight and have a good opportunity to pick one up. -
so i tried that foil mod to reduce heat as in crysis 2 i was getting up to 86c and i even saw 87c once. Played crysis 2 for over an hour after the mod and i saw the temp peak at 81c for a split second but it hovered around 78 - 80 for the most part. Im curious as to if ive used too much foil on the gpu and/or cpu. idle woudl be about 40c. I'm now seeing it at 36c
i also made sure the screws on the gpu were tight. i found 2 of the screws had about two spins in them before they were confident tight (not Hercules tight)
hopefully someone can put some insight in this as to if i've used too much foil tape or not. -
Thats about how much I have used. I also used some on the sides of the gpu though to fill the massive gap inbetween the fan and the copper.
-
ah thanks. now a friend of mine with the same laptop and same setup has his 680m overclocked to 950/2400 and idles at about 40 and maxes temps at 79
and yet im bone stock having to foilmod to get those temps. I really REALLY hope i dont have to repaste... as im not sure im willing to do that.. -
you talking about the little bit on the right not being covered?
-
Oh ok. I guess I actually have the new keyboard then? I have the Windows 8 logo on the left. It doesn't bother me nor has it caused any problems, I was just curious. Thanks though.
That looks excellent. I really want to do this mod myself and it seems like you had some really good results. I'll aim to model mine after yours lol. -
Yeah you can see the gap between the fan and the copper. I covered it as well to seal the hole with good results. Your mar vary of course.
-
my only concern is the fact i have a friend with the same laptop and components as I do...his temps with a 950core/2400mem are max at about 76c. even with my foil mod if i take the 680m to the current vbios limited overclock to 850core/2200mem i go up to 86c again (before foil mod that overclock would make me go to 89c. i quickly exited the game the second i saw that temp)
so im thinking i probably have to repaste
sigh...
the current thermal paste i have is some basic $6.99 paste that looks like a syringe. should probably buy something better if i do want to repaste...man what a hassle.. -
So I want to go to a small LAN party but noticed something alarming to me.. How to use my laptop lock. I see no ring or hole that most laptops have for security. I hope someone can help me with this.
-
Have you tried applying pressure to the four corners while benchmarking? That with a couple washers netted me 8c off my Max temp.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
I'm quite interested in doing the foil mod but don't really know what I need. Is the foil just regular aluminium foil and how should I attach it to the gap? And do I just stretch it across the gap?
-
its aluminum/foil tape used for duct work.

There is a Kensington lock port on the back right side. -
Hey Hutsady,
I was wondering if you or anyone else in here can chime in on upgrade prices for video cards with Xotic PC? I chose the standard 670MX option but if at some point I decide to upgrade to the 680M is there any pricing details or estimates as to how much something like that would cost? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Prices will fluctuate depending on when you get it as new parts come out the current ones go down. The latest prices i've heard from Sager were around $750-800 for the 680M. -
Decided to update my sig since I'm technically an owner, just haven't received my notebook yet.

Just wanted to update.
Got the new backplate from Sager today, but he forgot the screw. Not to big of a deal since I actually have an increase in temps with the forth side screwed down.
New paste, foil, and washers and my 7970m hovers around mid to upper 70s while gaming. Should I be content and leave it? I'd really like to Max at 71 like before but don't want to break anything again.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
plan to overclock? no? then i'd be content. if yes, see what temps are. i would be upset with anything past 80 with even a mild overclock
-
For now no oc. Don't have a need to.

I have a question if anyone could help me
I have order a sager np9150 almost a month from XoticPC. I have been waiting for them to get the Crucial 128gb msata in stock. They dont know when its coming in so i have basically decided to just buy the msata from somewhere else.
Im looking to spend no more then$150 if possible. i want to be able to put the OS on it.
Im looking at the Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series 120gb or the Crucial 128gb. anyone know which one is better or have any ideas on any other brands?
Since the slot in the computer can only read the sata II speeds is there actually any difference in the speed from the Mushkin and Crucial even though they have different read and write speeds?
Thanks -
So I've been doing my research for couple of weeks and now finally pulled the trigger. Bought from Xoticpc Check out my build. I will be mainly using my laptop for computer software, programming, and some gaming. I chose a SSD drive since I can't stand slow boot times and slow computer performance.
Also is the standard keyboard the one with multy-colors and sectors like in this video?

Thanks
Also I know that the model has been out for a while? Anything I should keep in mind? Any upgrades are absolutely necessary? Feedback is greatly appreciated.
Glad to be joining Sager community.
