Yes all the NP9150 will have the multicolor backlit keyboard. The build looks good, pretty much stock with the SSD in the primary drive. Dont forget to add Windows unless you have your own copy ready to install as Sager computers dont have one one default.

Yeah. I am going to install Windows myself.

    Thanks

    Edited:

Forgot to ask, the 30 day return policy starts from the day laptop is shipped out, or received by me?

Day 3 of Phase 2 with Xotic PC.

The nights are getting colder, and the days are getting hotter. I don't know how I'll make it out of here alive. All I know is there's one thing that's worth believing in.....and that's my NP9150. I have to survive if it's the last thing I do. I'll stand my ground. If anyone finds this message and I'm gone....please...Just take care of her for me.

Per your last request, I'll hold onto the laptop here for you until you're reanimated as a zombie so that you can take care of it for eternity. Hope you don't mind a little bit of a wait.

    Quick question...

I want to replace the screen bezel and lid of my laptop. I bought it from Mythlogic... Can I buy the parts and install them without bugging them about it? I know the parts are cheap because they are just plastic. Anyone know where I can buy them??

    Thanks!

You could contact Mythlogic or Sager directly for those as they're the same parts from either supplier, but I doubt Mythlogic would consider it bugging them if you were to ask they arrange that purchase. Pretty install to do after you get them in.

Question for both resellers and owners of the P150EM / NP9150: I was about to pull the trigger on the purchase of a NP9150-S, until started hearing about all the negative reviews on the sound quality when using headphones. I'm not an audiophile by any means, and I really don't care about deep bases or Mhz or any other measurable audio statistic. All I want is a normal, run-of-the-mill sound experience when watching Blu-Rays or gaming with earbuds in. I don't need Bose quality sound or anything special - just something that I don't notice as being downright "bad". From what some of the reviews say, however, is that the sound that comes out of the headphone jack is so bad, that it can't be ignored. If that's the case, it's inexcusable from a laptop at this price point. I know there are 3rd party USB options, but that'd be against my principles if paying $2,000 for a laptop.

    So, my questions are:

    1. Is the headphone sound from standard earbuds really that bad?

    2. Is there a fix for issues that others have been complaining of? I've heard rumors of removing THX drivers, but these are largely unsubstantiated, and often people say that it's just bad hardware.

    3. For the resellers: What percentage of NP9150 sales get returned because of this issue? AKA, is it a significant problem when reselling this model?

    4. Is there a revised model / motherboard from Sager / Clevo coming out in the near future that I should wait for, if this is a major concern?

Hey LOTDN, you are correct that the 91xx audio isn't all that great. It's hard to quantify it as being bad or good though as that is largely subjective to the person listening. I've listened to the machine before and I always describe it as adequate. I've been a laptop owner for about 15 years and running the gamut of manufacturers. I've had worse and I've had better. If I were to spend the money on this machine and having these reviews, it'd be about what I expect. Nothing stellar but nothing downright terrible.

There isn't a fix for it although some users have reported messing around with the equalizers in the THX control that it helps out with the problem immensely but it's still not great as it's limited by the hardware.

We aren't generally allowed to report a number of RMA cases but I find that those going with the Sagers and us in particular advising people not to expect great audio that we have very few returns for audio problems.

We should be seeing new models coming out in June/July that may have better audio but until one is received and listened to it's really hard to say whether it'll be better or not.

Sager has a 30 day return policy that is carried by all Sager resellers, so in the event you do get it you'd be able to test it out, see if it meets your standards and if it doesn't return it. The return policy is minus the original shipping cost as well as you having to pay the shipping to get it back to them, but it's a whole lot better than being stuck with something you hate listening to it. On the flip side, if you do not mind the audio, you have a great inexpensive powerhouse laptop.

i find the p150em's laptop speakers and soundquality actually a bit better than normal for a laptop. im not disappointed..but then again who buys a laptop for sound..

also can someone please shed some light on what normal temps for idle/load on the cpu/gpu with normal paste should be? im starting to suspect i may have a bad paste job

Temperatures will vary from system to system but at idle should be pretty low on a normal paste. I've seen 30-40c for CPU and 50-70 on GPU. What temps are you seeing yourself would be a better way to go. As long as the system isn't overheating during your usage you generally don't have to worry about.

I can't complain about the audio. I came from an Asus k53ta, this is probably my 7th laptop. Audio is nice and loud. Clear, but of course don't expect stellar bass.

If you don't expect high standards from the audio, you might even be impressed. I was.

40 - 42 idle and 82 - 86 with 99%gpu usage for over an hour or so in crysis 2

since doing the foil mod and making sure all 4 gpu screws were properly tightened

    36 - 37 idle and 79 - 81 with 99% gpu usage for over an hour in crysis 2

what bugs me is ive seen overclocks on the 680m with the p150em not go over 80c and yet i can barely do that with the foil mod

Thanks for your responses regarding the audio. I've heard that the speakers aren't *that* bad, but the headphone output is what really falls short. I'll probably hold off and see where the how the upcoming models fare. Although I have $2,500 burning a whole in my pocket, and I really want a new, portable gaming rig, I'd hate to buy this one only to have a better 15.6" version released in a few months.

Quick question on the P150EM, however: does anyone know if the Origin EON15-S is really just exactly the same as the NP9150? Or did they change the motherboard in any way? The only reason I ask is that I didn't see much complaining about their headphone output (except one post), but from the pics and what I've read, the Origin EON15-S is identical to the NP9150 in every way. The only difference I can tell is that Origin offers more/different CPU, HDD, SDD, and RAM options, which leads me to believe they assemble it themselves in-house.

the only reason the headphone port ''falls short'' is because those people are using headsets that draw A LOT of power. my sennheiser PC350 headset sounds like garbage unless i use an amplifier. each speaker in the pc350 had an impedence of 150ohms.

the audio port is fine man. dont let some eliteists ruin you from the laptop.

Yeah honestly, I use both the headphones and speakers for lectures and music and rate them above my older Asus laptop. They're pretty darn good in my opinion. For the price, you won't find a better brand that offers such high performance parts.

Also Decoy, when you run these overclocks and benches, do you force full fan speed when recording max temps? That will have an enormous impact because the Sager fans move a lot of hot air when running at full blast.

No, the audio port is not fine on NP9150 -- even my smartphone gives better sound than Sager when using 2.0 earphones/headphones. However the NP9150 does sounds fine when using 2.1 speakers.

I was going to hold off on getting my NP9150 originally, but I decided to go forward with it. As long as it's able to do what I really want from it ( Music editing / production ) then I'm good. Gaming is an extra thing for me, and the upgradeable graphics card is a nice thing as well for when I decide to do some sort of upgrade. That on top of the fact I have NO laptop as well for myself, and the sooner the better that I can do everything I want to do. Initially I had a bit of buyers remorse because of the fact there will be upgrades in the next couple of months even though I haven't even received the product yet, but then I realized the upgrades are minimal for me. To each his own, but I will say I'm dying to receive mine already. x_x

I dunno man - I'd be willing to take a chance with the NP9150's known sound hardware issues for gaming, but if I were looking to do music editing/production like you said, I'd steer clear. "OK" sound hardware won't do the job if music editing/production is your primary use, no? From what the previous posters said, this is a great gaming laptop with OK sound, but nothing great.

    hey guys,
Im about to pull the trigger on a sager np9150 from xotic pc. All settings are stock except:

    1) 7970m.
    2) downgraded ram to 8gb(1333mhz).
    3) no branding.

this is going to cost me $1362.21.

Hutsady at xotic pc has been really helpful with his swift replies and information.

Now I have some mixed feelings about this and would like your opinion on some things.

    1) Is the 7970m worth the trouble? have most problems been fixed or will I end up regretting my decision? The mx675mx is $100 cheaper
    2) How much battery time can I expect?
    3) If there are any LoL(League of Legends) players here, can you tell me if that game runs alright on this? I especially want to know how it performs on the intel hd4000 when on battery and how much it can run when on battery.
    4) If you were to buy a laptop with my budget(around $1350 now), what would you do differently?

That's not a bad deal, a little more than what I paid for mine at release though...........it's not a bad idea to shop around a bit if you haven't already. You might find that you're able to get faster RAM or a Hybrid drive for the same price or even cheaper, otherwise it looks like a find setup, you certainly won't be able to find any other brand that boasts higher performance for a cheaper price.

    1) I stand by the 7970m. I haven't had any trouble from it at all. It performs pretty close to the 680m for about $300 less
    2) Just yesterday I sat down and watched a couple of episodes of Sons of Anarchy..I want to say i was a third of the way into the third episode before the battery gave me a warning. Each episode is 45 minutes in length..so I'd say about 1:45-2:00 and that was in power save mode.
    3) I play LoL everyday..as a matter of fact it's the ONLY game I play. I'm currently playing on EUW since I'm in Iraq and unable to play on NA without having a ping of about 500 and It plays on my 9150 flawlessly. Add me if you want - scrizewly
    4) I just bought my laptop in January for a little over $1400 (I chose a samsung SSD and 16gb of ram instead). Sager/Clevo is definitely my choice.

the 7970m was nothing but trouble with performance and its drivers when i had it less than a month ago. switched to the 680m and im seeing better fps, gpu usage, and over all performance. wont look back

also anyone SERIOUS about doing audio work on this laptop will opt for a better built in audio card..and even if those arent up to snuff there are other external soundcards you can use. the laptop is great, and the stock sound is great as well

Just a quick question for you guys. Do you know when the Haswell chipset will be released? I really am interested in purchasing a new laptop, but with Haswell so close i feel like it might be worth the wait. What do you guys think?

Do you think there will be a price drop soon on the current model based on the release date? Or do you think it is worth the wait for Haswell?

Likely won't see any price drops until right before the new tech comes around but in my opinion it's not quite worth the wait. The first batch of these Haswell chips aren't really reporting much in the way of improvements over the current ones, probably won't be seeing a reason to upgrade until around October when the first refresh tends to happen.

I also agree that unless you really need the discount, it's not worth waiting if you're really itching for a new laptop.

Haswell's biggest improvements will be load power draw improvements (supposedly really substantial) which will increase battery life, and an upgrade to the integrated GPU. While the improved battery life will be really nice, it remains to be seem how much the real world gain is. Especially since, the gain is only when the CPU is under load (which you should not be stressing the laptop while on battery power anyway). Performance wise, Haswell is rumored to only be about 5% faster clock-for-clock than Ivy Bridge.

In term of the iGPU upgrade, it's pretty substantial as well, but in a gaming laptop with any discrete GPU, your discrete GPU will always blow it away so in my opinion, this is also negligible. It will be awesome for netbooks, ultrabooks, and more portable laptops that don't do a lot of gaming, but not really relevant here.

Just my two cents. (Also trying to rationalize my impatience :D)

1866 RAM is available for the current laptops so I don't see why they would necessarily be locked out of the next gen. Sager just doesn't offer it themselves as the performance gains were pretty negligible and in some systems caused instability. Until they're released though, this is all speculation as no confirmed specs have been released yet.

Hi, I have the exact same setup as you and i had my rig for about 2 weeks now.
    1. The 7970m does not give me any trouble at all and i dont regret my decision. It does have a few problems with a some games, but the games i play didn't have a problem with it except in the 64 player battlefield 3, i see huge stuttering and FPS drops.
    2. The battery lasts me about 2-3 hours just surfing the web, doing assignments, and taking notes.
    3. I play HoN instead of LoL and the 7970m eats that game up, I do have an LoL account, but haven't tried it out with the 7970m.
    4. 2 things i did was replaced the stock Harddrive and put it in a harddrive caddy which i purchased from amazon for about $5, just make sure you get one compatible with your laptop. Also I installed a OCZ vertex 3 SSD which I salvaged from my old macbook pro.

    Hope this helps

The machine is still pretty current and if you're wanting to sell it now would be the time before the new models are released. If you configure it up on a reseller site you'd get the like new price and then discount it based on the wear and the fact that it has the 3720 instead of the revamped 3740.

Well I bought it for around 2300 euros, so I was thinking of selling it for 2000? Or is that too much?

In my opinion that'd be a bit much for the age of the machine but you're free to put the price you feel is fair. The only real way to get a feel for it is to put it up for sale at your price and see if you get any bites, who knows, there may be somebody willing to pay that much.

    Good afternoon everyone

I am new to NBR and would like to thank everyone for their input on the NP9150. I am about to pull the trigger on one myself but had a couple questions. Is the 95% NTSC color gamut upgrade worth the $95, and how much of an improvement in temperatures will I see with the copper cooling upgrade? Also since there are complaints regarding the sound system on these models, will upgrading the soundcard improve the audio? Your input is valued, thanks! Here are my specs:

15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" w/ 95% NTSC color gamut
Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3630QM (2.4-3.4GHz)
IC Diamond thermal compound (CPU + GPU)
nVidia GeForce GT 675MX w/ Optimus
    16GB DDR3 1600MHz
256GB Crucial M4 mSATA SSD preconfigured as OS drive
    750GB 7200RPM HD
Combo Dual Layer SuperMulti DVDRW/CDRW Drive w/ software
Sager Intel Advanced N6235 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth 4.0

I had a used np8150 for a little bit that had the upgraded screen and it convinced me to buy the upgraded one on my current np9150. I can't really describe it, but it looks incredible and the colors are much more lively than I'm used to. It's worth it in my opinion since it's what you'll be staring at whenever you use the laptop.

I would recommend against the copper cooling and even the IC diamond paste. In my opinion they're not worth the cost. A tube of IC diamond costs 7$ by itself and if you buy nonconductive, there's no risk involved. The copper cooling upgrade does not so much lower temperature as it does prolong the duration until you reach your max temperature, so it's kinda useless. Up to you though.

As far as the sound card, it's pretty subjective. I think the stock one is great but audiophiles and professionals may disagree.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you need 16GB memory? You would likely save some money dropping to 8GB 1333Mhz.

You'll like the N6235 though. It's a nice wifi card and even supports WiDi.

    hey guys
Im in the process of getting a np9150. All stock except im adding a 7970m. Now I'm starting to wonder if I should go for the 95% gamut screen over the stock led.

I've seen mixed reviews for these screens. While most people agree they are fantastic, some people have noted that they do not perform well with enduro and perhaps never will. Can someone who has experience with this setup offer their 2 cents?

I really do like the 95% matte screens. Since you're using the screen pretty much the whole time while you're using the computer its one of the best upgrades you can do. I dont see how Enduro would affect it, it could be they didnt have a good color profile selected or needed to tweak the colors a bit.

    Hey Hutsady!
its me Omer, the guy who's been nagging you these past few weeks =).

I'm still on the fence over the 95% screen. can someone who uses this with a 7970m confirm its performance in game. might help me make my decision a bit faster =p
