Just a quickie guys I'm looking to overvolt my gpu, i was wondering if running an overvolted vbios has any negative effects when the gpu is at stock clocks, I only ask this as I like to keep my gpu at stock clocks most of the time but also like the ability to overclock for benchmarking and the odd game

Well, during idle the GPU should be in its low power state so the overvolt shouldn't be in effect most of the time.

Hi guys I hope you can help me out. I just installed a 3820qm on my machine and was trying to OC it, but for some reason it doesn't seem to work.. I'm running Prema's bios and used XTU to up all my turbo limits +400 mhz. I then used throttlestop with the following settings: modulation 100%, clock mod 100%, multiplier: turbo, c1e & eist enabled, all the rest disabled. I I start a stress test, it starts fine all 4 cores @ 3.9ghz, but after only +- 20 seconds, it starts downclocking by itself, first to 3.3 ghz and then it continuously jumps between 3.3 -3.4 and 3.5 ghz. Am I missing something here? XTU is not indicating any throttle issues while stress testing.

Also maybe to note, when it starts I can read from throttlestop that it is consuming +-60W when doing 3.9ghz(@+-88°C), then it jumps to 47-48W and cannot go higher than 3.4-3.5ghz(@+-78°C)

    Any help is appreciated!

You need to raise the TDP limits since as it shows 3.9ghz consumes 60W and the chip is limited to 45W (55W is the maximum you can raise the long term to).

Oh I see. Yeah it'll run at the higher voltage even at the stock gaming clocks. Then you can just overclock up (Nvinspector or Afterburner) to your limit and you'll run at the same higher voltage.

I tried putting it on 57W with throttlestop, and now it jumps between 3.6 and 3.7 ghz, it seems like with every extra watt i add, I get +- 0.25 ghz increase in long term turbo. But anyway I read about people having 3.9 constantly, how is that possible then? Or do I have a bad chip or something? :s

It depends on the stress test, as games and other applications wont be as stressful as a burn in test for instance.

Yeah it seems so.. So it can't handle a continuous 3.9ghz on stress test, but I've tried bf4, which gave me a nice fps boost coming from a 3610qm btw, and after 2 hours gaming it always maintained the 3.9 ghz and a max temperature of 86 °C, which is acceptable I think since it's constantly using 55W+ instead of the 45W.

Ah I see, so gaming with an overclocked vbios is not ideal even at stock clocks then? Guess I'll just stick my vbios on for a couple of bechmarks then flash the old one back again, thanks for the help

Bf4 is going to love that cpu mhz yes :) if you keep it for a long time be aware the xm is the only chip with a fully unlocked tdp level as well as mhz.

Yeah. Overclocking on the stock voltage isnt bad and can yield some good results.

Usually though you start seeing diminishing returns on an overvolted vbios. Though this really depends on the card.

You always get diminishing returns in a notebook due to the limited thermals really and generally the clocking curve of the chips.

Hello I am new to the forums but I have had a few question about my NP9150 for a while.

Is there anyway to change the color of the keyboard while booting? It always boots the default color and then changes to the color I have selected when it finishes booting up.

and where can I find the latest BIOS for my NP9150? Well its actually a pollux 1612 form Mythlogic.com. and is it safe to upgrade bios? never done it before

    thank you

No the default colour is hard coded in.

Check out the clevo bios thread in the main sager/clevo section.

Yes, I believe Prema got it to work with his custom BIOS update. But it's not really worth the extra cost...

I have to agree, you can easily tweak the 680M to 780M stock performance and beyond.

If you're asking about overclocking the 680M it's very easy.

You can use MSIAfterburner or NVIDIA Inspector. On NvidiaInspector it's as easy as opening the program, clicking Enable Overclocking, and moving the sliders to the right. Then you just click apply.

Generally, on stock voltage, 900Mhz Core clock and 2000Mhz Memory clock were stable for me. You'll have to run some games or benchmarks to make sure it's stable though.

There are some special vbios available that let you increase the voltage to go even higher.

    forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/1847-nvidia-kepler-vbios-mods-overclocking-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks.html

These require you to flash a custom vbios to your card (it's pretty safe in my experience), and allow you to overclock further. Some will increase the voltage.

The 680M is a pretty robust card and people have gotten really great performance from overclocking and overvolting.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. I'm a overclocking virgin, so all of this is very new (and kinda a bit scary) to me.

What is the stock core clock and memory clock? I will be using the Nvidia Inspector (and again, I'm new to this) but don't I need to overclock by the same clock multiplier rate?

    Thanks again, much appreciated

My stock is 758 Core and 1800 Memory. No, you can overclock both independently.

Mine might be a little different that yours since I used one of the custom vbios. I'm still at stock voltage too.

What temps are you seeing? It could be your CPU fans using the integrated graphics.

I have been researching and it seems unlikely to get 1440p on a 27 inch monitor, as the DVI port on NP9150 is only a single link output. Am I mistaken?? I am really hoping someone can enlighten me with any solution to successfully connect to a 2560x1440 27' inch monitor, and which one would be the best?

    Thanks so much

    What about your CPU?

It's probably normal if your playing something at 1080p for the CPU to get a little warm.

Display port only. I have Ivy Bridge which supports 1440p but only via dp. So to work with both integrated and 7970m you must use display port. I have an overlord monitor and it works like a champ.

With win 8.1, which has driver should I be running?

    I have a i7 3610QM and a GTX 680m. How can I determine exactly which 1440p 27" monitors it can support? Because np9150 doesn't support DVI-D

Isn't it only a mini displayport 1.1? I am on a quest to find the best 27" 1440p monitor for gaming and graphic design, that is actually compatible with this. What would you suggest?

My cpu runs at most 30C, when I use another driver from Radeon's site the fan makes no noise until i play a game.
Edit: Nvm, i just went into Catalyst and put firefox on power saving. Thanks tho

Overlord Tempest X270ME - Tempered Glass | Overlord Computer

It may be different with newer Intel integrated graphics, but with Ivy Bridge, you need to use the DP to drive it. The "ME" linked above has a scaler in it so it adds some latency. If you had DVI raw, he has monitors that will refresh at 120Hz. Email Scribby and he'll tell you all you might want to know. I have one and it is awesome.

Right, since you cannot use DVI-D and the HDMI also cannot support it, only 1440p with DP can be used (I have 3720QM). I think 3610 is Sandybridge, and may not be able to support 1440p on integrated graphics portion- ask your retailer.

Yes, this is correct. I already own it & might be looking to sell. My system specs are in my signature. It comes with full warranty until 2016 & it was purchased in Jan 2013. I'm just asking what folks think its worth & how much I can get before deciding if I want to sell it or not.

This same thread help me decide to purchased the 9150 SE back then & was hoping I can get the same help once again in deciding it's value.

thanks. i've noticed some listings on ebay and its about $90+...i guess that sounds right. are there any youtube vids on how to replace keyboards?

also, how much are the steelseries keyboard for the p150em? since regular replacements will be about $100 it seems anyways. are the keys known to be more durable than the standard keyboards?
