Isn't $700 a bit pricy for a GPU upgrade? That's almost a third of the total cost of the unit!!

Anybody else having problems with Installing Crimson drivers on their 7970m? I try to install but only get "No AMD driver installed" when I press on the new icon after installation.

It gives you modern high end performance the same as a new machine in games however and you can sell the old card often and cover a fair amount of the cost. Most people are more drawn by the cheaper 970m though it's true.

I'd restore to your backup image before you had issues and check everything runs ok on that.

Using Win10 on my Clevo P150EM.

    Issues:
    - I dont have Win10 drivers for the touchpad.
    - The computer doesn´t turn off. I select "turn off" in Windows and all light except the light on the power button is turned off. I have to manually turn it off by pressing power button for a few seconds.

Hey guys, PLZZ HELP ME :((((

    I own a SAGER NP9150 P150EM Clevo.
    Im running a GTX 675M.
    Im using Windows 10 64bit

I decided to upgrade to a GTX 970M. So this is what I did:

    I. BIOS updating:
    - I contacted the seller (Woodzstack) and bought the 970M card from him. I asked him to flash the 970M with the latest Prema vBIOS .
    - Flashed my laptop with the Prema v2 BIOS for Clevo P150EM.

    II. Physical replacement:
    - When the 970M arrived. I uninstalled the driver of the 675M using DDU (Guru3d Graphics Driver uninstaller for someone who doesn't know about it).
    - I replaced the 675M with the 970M.

    III. Driver related:
    - Upon boot, the laptop does recognize the 970M card as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
    - I updated the Intel Graphics Driver.
    - Inf file modding: (Following the instructions in this link: http://null-bin.blogspot.com/2015/08/how-to-modify-nvidia-notebook-driver.html)
    - Next I downloaded the 361.43 driver for 970M from Nvidia website.
    - I extracted the 361.43 driver into a folder and opened up the Display.Driver folder
    - My hardware IDs are:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_ 13D8&SUBSYS_ 51051558
    - Because I am using the Sager Clevo, I opened up the nvcvi.inf file. I searched down to this line: %NVIDIA_DEV. 13D8. 5281.1558% = Section029, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_ 13D8&SUBSYS_ 52811558
    - Then I replaced that line with this line (replacing the 5281 and 1558 into 5105 and 1558): %NVIDIA_DEV. 13D8. 5105.1558% = Section029, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_ 13D8&SUBSYS_ 51051558
    - Then I searched down to this line: NVIDIA_DEV.13D8.5281.1558 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M "
    and replaced the 5281.1558 with 5105.1558: NVIDIA_DEV.13D8.5105.1558 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M "
    - I continued to search but that was the last group containing the 13D8.
    - Then I ran the installer while forcing unsigned signature.
    - Then the driver installed successfully and required to reboot.
    - After the reboot, the screen BSOD before password screen saying: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and restarted
    - The laptop is then looped in the SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION BSOD. I have to boot up the laptop in safe mod.
    - I removed the inf modded nvidia driver for the 970m. Reboot and the laptop boots normally.
    - I tried to install the driver without modding the inf file but the thing won't install.
    - I think I must have gotten the inf modding wrong or something but I've tried again and again and same thing happened. I don't know what to do guys. Please help me :

EDIT 1: I updated the Intel Graphics Driver
EDIT 2: Just did a couple more of tests. I'm only having this problem on the 361.43 driver. The previous driver (359.06) works just fine. Does anyone with P150EM have the same problems on 361.43 driver? Thank you.
EDIT 3: Don't use windows 10 guys, games won't switch onto dGPU

Do you think it's worth it to upgrade from the 7970M?

Running Windows 10 64 bit here with latest intel and crimson drivers for AMD 7970M. The "THREAD_STUCK" BSOD happened when I first installed windows 10 but it stopped after upgrading to crimson drivers.

However I can't get any software GPU-Z, HWinfo and so on to read GPU temps, any ideas?

That's a vbios thing usually, you could try and see if other programs work.

    Hello,
i have a P150EM running with a 670M gpu. I have a problem that occurs when running certain games(LoL, Diablo, Hearthstone). my program freezes for a second and then I get an "unable to remove graphics card" or a message similar to that; Shortly after, my fans spin up and the 3 left indicator lights blink for about 10 seconds until the system shuts down. I then restart windows normally.
It is odd because certain games i've had no trouble with, like World of Warships or EVE online.
the hardware is in moderate condition, I open it up every ~4-6 months to clean out dust from the fans. The back left vented panel in front of the heat sink has broken and that's caused the heat sink to become a little un-seated(?).
It's been happening since i've formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7 back in early december.
Any advice on what to do next is greatly appreciated. :)
    Thanks

I upgraded from my nvidia 680M to the 980M from Eurocom a few months ago
The system runs good, but I'm not able to update my nVidia drivers - every time I do so, it crashes to BSOD for me

I use the DDU program to uninstall in safe mode to remove all my old nVidia drivers, then it restarts. When do the install, it's fine, until the system does the reboot to complete the install - during the Windows boot up, the system crashes to BSOD

Sometimes I get the error of "nvlddmkm.sys" but other times not. I have to either do a hard reboot of the system, restart in safe mode, remove the update nvidia Drivers via DDU again and reinstall my old drivers, or I need to do a System Restore

I'm currently using drivers 359.06 and I've been trying to install 361.91

    Any ideas or help?

Eve is usually much harder on the cpu so i would check to see the gpu heatsink is making good contact. Maybe to a re-paste.

What happens if you just install them normally over the top?

I just flashed my BIOS to the new Prema V2 BIOS

I still can't update to the new nVidia 360.xx drivers - still does BSOD after the mandatory system reboot after installing in Windows 7

    Sager NP9150/ Clevo P150EM

Upgraded from nVidia 680M to nVidia 980M

    Currently on nVidia driver 359.06

    Windows 7 64 bit Professional

Must do System Restore to revert back to nVidia 359.06

    Any thoughts or ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

I'd stick with that driver package for now and see if later ones have issues too. You can either hit up prema then or now I suppose.

You need to provide more detail, is the rest of the machine working ok? If so check the keyboard cable by removing the keyboard. If reseating that does not work then a new keyboard is your best bet.

Hi there peoples, i require some expertise in regards to my P150EM.

Over the past 4+ years of ownership i have occasionally (once or twice a year) experience the laptop suddenly shutting down. The only solution was to unplug the power cord and replug it in the back. (Temperatures of both CPU and GPU were well under 80C). This was fine and never bothered me much.

However 2 days ago this happened, I smelt some burning, and the laptop did this shutdown. I reached back to unplug the power cord and i almost burnt myself as it was so hot. The plastic around the plug was deforming from the heat. I let the laptop rest and took out the battery. When i detached the battery it sparked across teh connections between the batter and the laptop...
This is a battery i had replaced 14months ago after the previous one no longer held a charge (this one holds charge for about 30mins then drops from 60% to 5% in an instant).
So since that happened i have been using the laptop completely fine without any issue by having the battery removed from the system...

Now my question is, what could be the cause of this? as i am hesitant to purchase another battery if the issue may be something else...
Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

The mains could be spiking the input and your plug might not have been making great contact into the machine. Battery draw is limited by the charging circuit and protects both the machine and battery.

If you smell burning, that's frequently a problem with the board or charging port. I'd get that looked at.

Soooo everyone's question from today's NVidia announcements.....

Will the 1080m/1070m/1060m work and fit?

I read that the 1070m will fit if you have a 980m....

The only card to fit would be the msi 1060 card. Firmware is a different issue all together though.

I bought a used P150EM from a guy yesterday, he described it as having a hot GPU. I received it today, flashed Prema, took of the bottom, enabled 100% fan mode, and ran Heaven. After 2 minutes, the GPU was at 104C! I checked the heatsink, and sure enough, one of the heatpipes connecting to the plate on the core was lifted, and the user had tried to apply thermal paste under it. Is there any way to solder it back on? And would one heatpipe not sitting correctly on the plate really cause that high a temp? The other pipe on the core is still good.

I recently desoldered heatpipe from the plate and heatsink and I managed to blow one up :-D
You could use thermal adhesive but it's not as good as soldering.
Or you could search cheap heatsink. I got same heatsink for 1€ from ebay but had to pay extra on delivery.

The pipe did already have thermal paste under it, however the temperature was still through the roof!

If the pipe is cold then my guess is it's dead, grab a new heatsink.

If it's loose then the gap between heatpipe and plate is too big and thermal paste won't help.
You can use heatsink all the way up to SM-A series, but might to have to cut some plastic off from bottom cover exhaust area.

The heatsinks are a fair bit better though so it's worth getting one anyway from a later machine.

When I upgraded my EM heatsinks to SM-A heatsinks then I had to cut off small plastic tabs near exhaust mesh (inside).

That's less invasive then. Good to know.

Is the P150SM and SM-A gpu heatsinks the same?

And what is the model number of the heatsink?
