Has anyone tried coolers yet? Got a coolermaster u2 that did absolutely nothing noticeable. I still was around 90C with/without cooler (I just raised the back with an object prior).

    woops. weird repost

You should definitely wait until you've used the stock one for a bit. If you do get an external (whether you're miffed about the W+E+space thing or dropped keys), I'd recommend this one: Newegg.com - Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4 Keyboard

Great anti-ghosting, well-known and even backlit.

I've been using the cooler master ergostand with my NP6165 (and soon to be NP9150). It works like a charm, though my temps without the cooler haven't been too bad either. It doesn't have the adjustable fans like the U2 or U3, just a single large 140mm fan. It works as an adjustable laptop stand with optional angle settings, which is really great for setting the screen at the optimal viewing height. I haven't logged any concrete temp changes with it yet, but it runs noticeably cooler with it on. A bonus to this cooler is the addition of 4 usb ports if you need more space for peripherals.

edit: if you would like, I can test gpu temps while running BF3 with and without the cooler on my NP6165. Not sure how how it would compare with the NP9150, other than give you a rough idea about how the cooler helps move the hot air through the pc.

Does anyone know if there are any new drivers out for the 7970m version yet? Also, is there any reason why my laptop keeps saying that I have a probably with my WLAN device or driver? It works until I plug it into Ethernet, and then once I unplug it the computer acts like somethings wrong.

Sounds like you have a short in your webcam. There is no reason it should be getting hot. I would stop using that webcam and contact your reseller for a repair.

Wait a bit. Nvidia is releasing Kepler based 675MX soon. I would wait for those. They will likely be based on the desktop GTX 660.

The GK106 660 (ie NOT the 660 Ti). It will be on the GK106 chip which will be a VERY good replacement for the older high end fermi chips out there.

It's about the same price as the 7970, depending on where you get it.

The card was added to nvidia's site today. It's 28nm, 4GB vram. Looks to be about 20% more powerful than the 675M.

Those don't list TDP/power consumption, either. I'm hoping it will be more efficient on battery.

So why do they call them 670mx and 675mx and not K670m/K675m like the quadro cards?

You're right, I just copied the crap on that one page, didn't even read it to check lol. But the picture I posted shows the the 675MX slotting about 20% higher in 3D Mar
Vantage, and I know it's kepler architecture and 28nm. It's a decent upgrade from the 675M, it'll run cooler with lower power consumption and still out-perform the old fermi 675.

    marketing? lol

and it will be more efficient.

Sorry to intrude fellas just got a question about the 670mx. Is it good over the 660m and 670m? And what is the real weight of the np9150? Is it actually 6.83 lbs or more (or less)? When you carry it around, does the weight hinder? Thanks guys just quick questions

I think its worth it, although the old 675m is a little more powerful and its a free upgrade right now on 9150s. I went with the 675mx though, 20% more power and more efficient to boot.

Placed my order (NP9150/7970) yesterday with LPC-Digital, very much excited. Should be receiving it sometime next week.

What are the first things I should do once I get it? i.e. checking temps, benchmarks, certain monitoring software I should install etc.

hey guys, i've had my np9150 for about a month now and just recently i've started getting some weird delay and low fps when i'm playing league...

for fps, i stayed at a constant 60fps, never moved which was normal for me, but then one day it started jumping. Went to 20-40 fps when i'm near another player, normal when i'm by myself (usually). 2nd problem was just delay. didnt seem like my fps dropped, i'd move and then the picture would move after 1-2 second later. i was watching my fps and it stayed the same. this never happened before.

i've always kept it at max performance, plugged in if that matters.

i got the gtx675, stock paste, stock i7, bigfoot killer 1103. i'm not quite sure what wrong, whether my laptop got overheated too many times and then that just messed everything up....

    any advice? help?

Install HWiNFO64 and watch the monitoring sometimes, if the temp reach beyond 88 *C then something is wrong. Also pres CTRL + F in LoL to make sure you dont 'have lag spikes.

P.S. Make sure the firewall isn't interfering with the game :)

Ah I see! The only reason I'm even looking at the 670mx is the lesser power draw, less heat, but good performance! I'm only keeping the machine for a year, so maybe the 670mx would be a better investment.

For your second problem, I had that happen once before with a project I was working on and it turned out to be a bad external keyboard driver (I didn't even know they needed those). A simple reboot fixed it for a few days, then it happened again so I got the driver off the manufacturer's website and it hasn't given me trouble since.

    How portable is the 9150?
Looking at the dimensions, it's only 1.62" at it's thickest point, and weighs 6.8 pounds. Neither of those values are that thick or heavy by any measure.
    But am I wrong?
Like really, to me the 9150 seems to be a rather portable laptop, but am I wrong?

If you're only keeping it for a year, I would just go with the free upgrade to the 675m. It's the cheaper alternative, and will have no problem running games a year from now. Save cash so you can upgrade to the ultimate rig in the future :D

Its gonna very similar to the NP8690 in your sig for weight and size. If you're used to carrying that around the NP9150 wont change a thing.

I carry my p150hm, last year's model, to and fro everywhere. It is my school laptop and work laptop. One thing I suggest, is to get a slim power supply. The 180w that comes standard is a tank. I got an Innergie 95w slim and it is quite slim compared to the stock brick, about 35-40% it's size. This is great for keeping power at work or school since I'm usually only in text console anyways. And while at home I have my main brick at the desk to plug into when I need to do serious power hungry tasks, such as the occasional session of Batman Arkham *.

Keep in mind you shouldn't expect to game at max with 90w slim power supply. For testing purposes I overlooked my 6990m from 715mhz to 900mhz and got a sudden freeze while on the slim. Repeated behavior such as this is bad for both the power supply and your laptop.

So in short, for my particular requirements, this laptop is portable. I give it 3.5 stars out of 5 in this department, which isn't too shabby considering the power I'm carrying around :)

Examples of 5 star portability to me (excluding laptops < 13") would include but not limited to: Asus zenbook, MacBook pro and air series, Samsung chronos 7 and series nine, amongst others. However, all of these lack the nice umph I've come to expect :)

Your post probably got lost in the mix.

If you're daring enough, go repaste, although I would advise you to game a bit to check out the temps, and if it's fine, then no need to repaste.

As for software, HWMonitor for temps (there are other alternatives out there) and MSI Afterburner for overclock (no alternatives).

I'd also go update to the latest GPU drivers and install Microsoft Security Essentials and uninstall whichever anti-virus they have on there.

Oh, and replace IE with Chrome/FF

I'm assuming you're wanting to upgrade your graphics driver, you can get that through Sager or the AMD website (I think it's driver 12.9 now, but I still haven't gotten my laptop so I haven't done any updating either.). The Enduro hotfix will out within a week or so, so you'll definitely want that.

I've got my own noob question for this thread :)

My NP9150 is on the way, and I just ordered a Samsung 830 series 128gb SSD for the main hard drive bay. It should get here before my laptop arrives. I've never loaded an OS before, but I'm assuming I'll have to reload Windows onto the SSD once I switch hard drives, correct? I guess there will be a Windows 7 backup disk that arrives with the laptop, and I can just load it through the optical drive in the BIOS, right? Any special instructions you guys can recommend? What about loading the drivers after loading Windows? Will I just have to load the driver disk that comes with the backup software? Sorry for such noob questions, I just don't want to screw anything up on my brand new baby lol. Thanks!

I ordered my laptop without OS because I can get win7 for cheaper with my student account. Just seen a deal to get windows 8 for free with a ACM/IEEE membership, does anybody have any experience with windows 8 on NP9150? Any problems with drivers for the 7970m and other things

Either the Sager or Clevo websites will have updated drivers for the P150 / NP9150 (just search the corresponding). For drivers as well. If you're waiting for the 7970m driver, it's not fixed yet (beta is out though).

As for loading the OS, it could depend on the reseller. There are generally 2 ways it could come -
    1. In one backup CD which you can just install the OS (and the drivers will be installed as well.
    2. It will come with 2 CDs - one for Windows 7 and one for the drivers.

If it's the second case, boot up with the Windows 7 one first, and install it (just follow the instructions, pretty straightforward). After Windows is installed, just put in the driver CD, and let the autorun power up. There are 2 pages of drivers - go with the first page first, and do it in sequence. The 2nd page are "option drivers", but you will want to install them anyway (for the stuff you have)> Do note that some drivers depend on the hardware switch being turned on. For example, if you are unable to install the webcam drivers, just hit the fn+F10 key to turn on the webcam for the software to detect it :)

    Hope that helps!

Thanks so much, you've been a great help. I'm still unsure about the best way to set the ssd up, should I just chose AHCI SATA mode in the BIOS or should I go with RAID mode for Intel SRT?

    Thanks again! :)

Edit: OK I think I've figured it out, so I should just set it up as AHCI SATA mode because RAID mode is basically for for small ssd's or mSATA drives that you want to set up as a system cache, correct?

yes, you should set it up as AHCI. no, that's not what RAID (redundant array of independent disks) is used for. wikipedia it for more detailed information. sorry to be so short--on mobile.

No problem, thanks for clearing that up for me. I'll read up on RAID, but I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing now :D

As long as everything works, the only thing you want to update regularly (as in, times other than when an installer tells you to) is your graphics driver, and to my knowledge there's still nothing for the 7970m. Then again, I'm being rather lethargic toward new tech news right now so don't quote me on that (I'm more interested in November's game lineup atm).
