Hi anyone
I intend to buy Clevo 9130/9150 and have three questions.
1. What is the type of the video card interface?
2. What are available video cards with that interface?
3. Is there a place where I can to order Clevo 9130/9150 with a spare second video card?
Edit1: Is the fan noise disturbing you if you are listening to music or sleeping?
Edit2: The thread is very long. I've tried to read from the beginning .. and after 60 pages ... no power .. maybe I'm too old.
Edit3: No need from answers anymore. Thanks. -
Here is a question, I know that Sager makes a great laptop. I bought the 8170 last year but hated the screen and didn't have the money for the upgrade. Now i am thinking of picking the 9150 since it is more upgradeable but wanted to know how the 95% matte screen looked. I was wondering how it would compare to an IPS panel. Also, if you use it on your lap is it super hot? Super Heavy?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
The 95% matte screens are really nice. The best I've seen on a notebook. Note quite as good as a IPS though. I have IPS monitors on my desktop and the TN panels just cant match their colors. However the 95% matte is still more then enough when needing to do editing when I'm away from home.
You never want to use a Sager on your lap without some type of lap desk. The intake fans are on the bottom so you will be blocking those which will cause overheating. Never use it on carpet, bed, or anywhere that will block those vents, always keep it on a flat surface. -
I think I'm selling my Sager now. I wanted a laptop that could handle DVI-D. It pisses me off a little that they made the input look like DVI-D. I went ahead and bought a crossover 1440p monitor from Korea and the laptop doesn't work with it. When I plug it in it crashes. I got a DVI-D cable with it and nothing. I like the sager for what its worth, its just annoying that they are actually single-link when they make it look like a dual-link. Its misleading. Well I figured I'd be with Sager for a while but looks like this love affair is coming to an untimely end
Aw well. Should fetch a lot on eBay!
-
what are the specs and what is the price?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
The laptop does DVI-D just fine, it's just that it's a single link as the specs state. I have personally used a DVI-D monitor and cable with it. They put the connection the way they did so you would be able to use any DVI cable with it as opposed to possibly buying one specifically for the laptop. I can see how somebody who only looked at the picture could misunderstand, but they do a good faith effort as listing it in the specs as single link. -
Have you tried displayport to dvi-d adapter yet? extide/Derek mentioned a couple of posts back when we were talking about the port, that it could only output single link, that would have been all I need to stop the purchase of such a monitor...

Anyone change out the screen?
I want to put a AUO B156HW01 V4 in it, anyone know where to find a genuine one? -

I also saved a bit of money by cheaping out on ram for now, 50 bucks off for 8gb 1333mhz
Going to upgrade it to Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 in a few weeks.
Quite an upgrade from the computer I am currently typing on(in sig) -

Congrats on the build! If you find yourself not using the optical drive you can get a caddy to put the 750GB HDD in there for a storage drive like your current build. You'll just need to get a caddy for it.

Haha, it happens. We'll be glad to help you out with that and congrats on the build from me as well! I'm sure we'll be talking in a few hours, until then take care. -
The 1440p monitors are really designed (or intended) for DESKTOP machines. That being said, the 9150 is a *close to* desktop, and ABSOLUTELY CAN do 1440p with either the 680 or 7970m. JUST NOT DVI-D. A call to your reseller BEFORE buying the 1440p monitor would have yielded you that information. Furthermore, though the 9150 can display 1440p over the HDMI OR DP, the integrated Ivy bridge tops out at 1560x1600 and ONLY OVER THE DP port (Google that). AND, you can't just sit there doing email or whatever non-gaming activity and FORCE the use of the discrete graphics. AS A RESULT, if you want to use the 1440P and use it at that 2650x1440 resolution all the time, you MUST USE DISPLAY PORT.
None of these "gotchas" exist with desktops as they don't have automatically switched integrated/discrete graphics functions (Optimus/Enduro). A laptop is NOT the same as a desktop. An early adopter should know that already.
Go ahead and return your 9150. You are not worthy of it. It is a machine designed for early adopters, and those are people who can read and research themselves -- a skill you lack (obviously). Go ahead and get an HP Envy and BEATS audio and brag about that.

So,i assume that there is no way to have 120Hz Refresh rate at your external 120hz monitor? even with display port?

just reformat my laptop and sometime the screen just frozen in shut down screen. i need to turn it off manually. any solution for this?
also, anyone can post the latest driver for ethernet, wifi, audio, etc? thanks -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You can find the latest drivers on the Sager site HERE.
As for the reinstall problem, it sounds like it may be trying to shut down a background process that isn't killing or something during OS Install/Update Install may have corrupted. Give it another shot at reinstalling is my opinion. -
Not sure. Check this post on another site:

I see you didnt get Windows on there, which is fine as long as you have it ready to install once you get it. I just always like to make sure you're aware of that so you dont get the computer and wonder why theres no Windows. -

New nVidia GPU coming out, GTX 680MX, with all 1536 cuda cores, same GPU clock, and faster memory clock.

edit: made a thread about the question I had
-
There's several threads already on this. Not likely to be coming to an MXM form factor any time soon if at all. Power concerns. Even if it ends up being OK within MXM spec, P150EM only has 180W brick and can't go larger unless you get a 4-pin connector one which isn't compatible with P150EM. An overclock of the 680m to 1000/2400 already starts to push the limits of the 180W brick.

Could be new more efficient chips that run at lower voltage. Then you could stay at the same power target.
-
Not likely, it's still Kepler and same process. They may achieve higher clocks because their yield has better quality, but power consumption will remain the same, same voltage. It is also using 2500 GDDR5 right off the bat which also consumes more power. As much as I'd like it to be true, I don't think so, although would be very impressed if it were made possible. Then they'd have their work cut out for them with the 780m considering it will remain kepler for the next year and a half.
-
Better yields can equal more clocks at lower voltage, which equals less power. It's definitely possible, we will have to wait and see. Pretty similar to how AMD is now selling the Ghz edition 7970's at the same power envelope as original 7970's.

From:
Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Intel HD Graphics 2500 Review. Page 2 - X-bit labs
"Theoretically, a desktop system on an Ivy Bridge processor can offer three outs: the first one - a universal out (HDMI, DVI, VGA or DisplayPort) with maximum resolution of 1920x1200, the second one a DisplayPort, HDMI or DVI with up to 1920x1200 resolution, and the third one a DisplayPort supporting higher resolutions up to 2560x1600. In other words, a popular connection option when WQXGA monitors are connected to Intel HD Graphics 4000 via Dual-Link DVI is still unavailable. However, it supports HDMI protocol version 1.4a, and DisplayPort version 1.1a, which means 3D support in the former case and the ability of the interface to transfer audio stream in the latter."
What this means is that for Laptop users with up to current HW, unless you can disable Optimus/Enduro (and we know the 9150 with Enduro cannot), then you need to get a monitor that supports Displayport or all you are stuck. -
Hi guys,
I have a question about power bricks for this laptop.. First of all, I would like to purchase a small 90w or something adapter for taking my laptop to school.. the standard 180w is huge and heavy which is not comfortable at all to drag along almost every day. In school I never use the 7970m, only doing some programming work and browsing the web/ text input. Can a 90w(with same plug ofcourse) harm my laptop in any way?
Second , the other way around.. I think I'm in need of a power brick of 200-220w.. concerning my other topic here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/693624-usb-kills-3dmark-score.html
In short: the more I OC my 7970m, the lower my combined score in 3dmark.. which I think means there some kind of power failure/shortage when stressing both cpu and OC'ed gpu(standard gpu clocks no problem)
I don't know what power brick was supplied with you guys, but mine is a chinese one with almost no english on it.. 180w and efficiency level v if that is of any importance.Brand name is "fsp group inc". A google lookup tells me that this is a pretty good brand..
thanks in advance -
As for 90w power brick I use two different ones. One for the office and one in my bag. I leave the 180w at home on my desk. There won't be any harm done to your laptop, and if any the harm would be done to the power bricks. They may get shorter lifespan if the pull from the laptop is too strong. Just dont overclock, etc while using the 90w one and you're good to go
No harm done and I've been using the slim bricks for about three months.
I have an Innergie 90w Slim and a Targus 90w universal slim power brick. Using the Asus plug pin fits perfectly in the Clevo. They use the same pin.
As for a larger power supply, my guess is that the 220/240w one from the p170xm should be fine if the pin is the same. I don't own one of those so can't comment too much sorry!
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2 -
Thanks for the info, I will be ordering a 90w slim adapter shortly then
About the 200+W, There's another topic about that here on the forums for 150em, it seems as if there is not a single adapter available that works out of the box since the plug used on the p150em(which is different from the 170em) is rated at max 180w. The only solution is to solder the tip on the cable but I'm not really an expert in that so I'm pretty much stuck..
-
This is interesting. Can you still play games while using the 90W brick?
-
I don't play any games on a regular basis, but I was able to get steady 60fps with v-sync on Batman Arkham asylum just to test the limits of the 90w brick. The brick got quite toasty though lol. I can't imagine you getting full experience for gaming on the smaller brick for most games. Since I do all of my work in GNU/Linux the 90w is plenty to power everything but the GPU, which I downclock to 150-300mhz anyways so it's perfect for my needs.

Hey All,
I wanted to update the 7970m driver on my computer but Ièm not sure as to how i should continue.
There is a giant 414mb download from the Sager website which I hope will work, but whenever trying to update from the AMD website I get this message.
I would really appreciate some help on the matter, thanks!

There is the new Beta Driver which fixes part of the Enduro issues or what ever
Try this out

Well, some issues with my bank (billing and shipping address blah blah blah) caused my order to not finish processing yet. Those issues have been resolved and hopefully my order will clear processing tomorrow. I am REALLY looking forward to this laptop!
-
If a 90w brick could run this machine well enough to game, why do you think Clevo includes a 180w one?
I would personally rather be safe than sorry and always either use the 180w brick or battery, and I never do anything that would cause the GPU to turn on without being plugged in. My battery easily gives me 5hrs so I don't need to take the brick to school unless I plan on playing games during lunch (which I often do, this laptop has given me quite a fanbase). -
There is no harm with the dgpu being turned on whilst on battery or using a lesser power brick. It just simply won't draw enough power to work at full performance. No harm to computer, but to power brick potentially yes.
A smaller brick is super handy when you forget to charge the night before or when you're away for extended periods of time. Also, my p150hm only gets 1.5 hours these days with low brightness, etc.

Just a quick question about the keyboard ghosting issues, is keyboard ghosting only an issue on sager ones or all clevo resold models, and have they fixed it? Thanks
-
Supposedly all. Not sure though.
-
I have just installed Windows 8 with MSI Afterburner 2.2.4... is anyone else unable to get their 7970 to overclock any more?
-
Have you done the registry edit again? And edited te config file of afterburner to allow oc? -
Thanks for your kind words. Yes I am an amateur. I don't know much about computers. Big deal. Anyway, will this work with an active adapter: namely a Display Port to DVI-D adapter?
-
I haven't sold yet. I have an active adapter you talk about in the post. Hopefully getting it tomorrow. I'll let you's know if it works. If it doesn't I think I may just get a desktop computer with the money I get from Sager anyway. I'll sell it on eBay. I'd much rather play at 1440p than have a laptop that can game to be honest but i shall wait and see.
