90c is honestly perfectly in spec. 100C is pushing it a bit, but won't damage it.

    Greetings, all!

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a NP9150 (haven't chosen a vendor yet) that will be used for video/photo editing mainly. I want the OS and programs on the fastest SSD and have at least one internal SSD drive for media. I'm a bit confused about how to spec it with respect to the wording on various configurator web pages. I understand that the mSATA slot is not as fast as the primary slot. Is that a correct assumption?

Now, about the OD drive and caddy vs external eSATA port. I could keep my media on an eSATA external drive and use the OD bay as, well, an OD. OR, can I put yet another SSD in the caddy? Is the caddy hot-swapable?

Sorry for the nube questions, but since this is a pretty decent "investment", I'd like to get it right the first time and not have to fiddle with re-configuring after the fact...I did some cursory searching, but didn't find quite the answers I was looking for...

So, bottom line: what do you think is the optimal configuration for my situation? Emphasis on the drive config...

    (other details of the build: 3840QM Processor, 4 X 4GB 1600MHz RAM, GTX 675M GPU, Display, and networking is T B D <To Be Determined>)

    I really appreciate the feedback!

    Cheers!

    ..sk1

Edit: "T B D " somehow got automagically expanded to "To Be Discussed" That's a first!

I have personally kept the OD for convenience purposes.

You are right, the mSATA drive is slower than the full-sized SSD drive. However, it's still no slouch At the end of the day, just remember you can always upgrade your laptop and in a few months time prices of SSDs and mSATAs will drop and you will most likely get more capacity too.

Excellent point. So, just to be clear, I can load the OS and programs on the primary C: SSD drive and use a later-installed mSATA SSD drive for media? Or I can order it with the mSATA SSD drive pre-installed but without he OS on it? (One of the configuration web pages led me to believe that the OS would be pre-installed on the mSATA, secondary, drive.)

    Thanks much!

You can install the OS to whichever drive you want, just indicate to your reseller what it is you're looking to do and if there is any confusion I'm sure they'll call and ask. Any drives added down the road could be used for storage if you want them to be.

I would recommend installing your OS on either the mSATA drive or the SSD drive. Use the mechanical hard drive for file storage (stuff like documents, music, photos.

Hey guys, I recently picked up a Clevo P150EM and am enjoying it so far, I'm loving the performance, hoping to do some overclocking on the gpu soon, however first of all I want to check the gpu temps and utilization in certain games, I've got MSI afterburner installed but it's not showing up any of the info for my gpu when I open it, it's also not showing up my driver version and it's not showing any info in games, I'm currently using 12.11 v.7 I'm probably missing something obvious but I'm quite new to MSI afterburner and overclocking in general  Thanks for any help in advance

It's because you're using the 12.11 beta. I use Hwinfo64 to monitor temps and utilization since Afterburner doesn't work with 12.11. To overclock, follow the directions in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/658958-guide-installing-overclocking-amd-mobility-7970-m17x-r3-illustrated-guide.html (scroll down to where it says "overclocking") and open a 3d application like kombuster before adjusting and applying clock rates. If you don't use kombuster first, it's an instant BSOD. Enjoy your laptop!

edit: Forgot to mention, if you want to monitor temps and utilization while gaming, you can use MSI Afterburner On-Screen Display Adapter with HWINFO64. Just configure HWINFO to show the data you want, launch the on-screen adapter (it comes with afterburner, just search for it in your start menu), and it'll show up on the screen.

Not a clue, and it might not be like that for everyone, but ever since I switched to 12.11 it has done it. I saw some people say that you needed Kombuster running to overclock, and that worked for me.

    Hey guys

I'm interested in the 9150 from Xotic pc.

    I can't decide between the 675M and the $200 upgrade to 675MX.

Do you guys think it's worth it?

Also, I was watching a review on youtube that said the rubberised finish likes to attract dust, is that easy to clean off?

ps. Is anyone else not used to the fact that the windows key has been moved to the right side of the spacebar? (or the fn key being moved for the new keyboard?)

Keyboard layout is fine to me. The rubberized finish looks and feels great, and cleans easily. It doesn't attract dust any more than other materials imo. If you're willing to upgrade to the 675MX, I would recommend jumping up to the 7970m for a slight price increase. The performance is absolutely worth it. The 675MX does scores around 4000 in 3DMark11, while the 7970m does around 6500 with the 12.11 beta. That's over 60% higher for a modest price increase.

    Hello everyone.
I haven't bought the P150EM yet, I've decide what i want, besides the graphic card which i keep hearing scary things...

I would go for the 7970m, but all this drivers issue is holding me back. the gt 680 is way out of my budget... so i would be choosing between the gt675 and the 7970... with which one would you guys go? (taking in consideration the performance and the driver issues and why?)

tks for the opinions in advance guys!

The 7970m's Enduro problems are being sorted out by the new drivers. The 12.11 beta is out now, which fixes underutilization for dx11 games. The final driver release with fixes for dx9 and dx10 should be out this month, and it will likely fix any stability issues the beta drivers had. The 7970 is a massive performance gain over the 675 and 675MX, and is definitely worth the upgrade imo. Read my previous post to see the difference in benchmarks.

I see, thanks for the advice!

I guess the 675MX upgrade isn't really worth the $200?

Somehow that $300 sounds much more expensive than it should be, haha!

What about the screen upgrade, would I really be needed a 95% color gamut screen if I'm not a graphic editor?

The screen would definitely look a lot prettier. You'll really notice it while watching movies. Not something absolutely necessary though.

It's not that the 675MX isn't worth it, I just think the 7970m is a better value. I originally ordered the 675MX but changed it once news of the new drivers got out, so I understand your concern. Trust me though, the 7970 is finally living up to its potential. Stock benchmarks are higher than the 680m's, which is pretty impressive for a cheaper gpu that came out a few months earlier. Granted, the 680m runs cooler and has a higher overclock threshold.

I've heard good things about the 95% gamut screen, but the stock screen is gorgeous too so it's not a necessity unless you're really picky about your displays. I would get the matte upgrade if you will be using your laptop in bright or sunny areas.

Thanks, I installed HWINFO64 but the 7970 isn't showing up there either, it's just the intel 4000, I tried the newest official version and the latest BETA and I've added the program to high performance in the switchable graphics program but no luck

Well, the 7970 looks really tempting.. but it seems that it's been giving alot of problems.

Just browsing through the thread, it seems that quite a number of problems stem from the laptops containing the 7970. Maybe it's just a coincidence, or maybe it's the card?

The performance definitely looks really tempting though..

edit: how hot does your 7970 run under load?

Keep in mind that forums posts don't tend to change as the situation develops. With the latest beta drivers most of the problems have gone away and once the official driver is launched it should be taken care of. Last ETA on that I've heard around the net is the end of the month. The 7970 is a solid card and should definitely be considered.

I was worried about the enduro issues when I first ordered my laptop, but since 12.11 came out I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Launch a game then launch HWINFO, the GPU is off when not in use so it has no temp to report.

Mine runs at 75 avg with AS5 in Mechwarrior online

Thanks for the help guys, currently monitoring my temps, utilization and fan speed successfully, only played for an hour tonight but had some interesting results. Played Crysis DX10 first and was getting 100% utilization most of the time only occasionally dropping to 97-98% so happy with that, then tried Crysis 2 online as the campaign crashes straight away, I was getting around 95% but on others it was dropping to the low 80's and one level constantly jumped from 90 to around 70% until it crashed, need to look into it more thoroughly I think and cross my fingers that I stable driver will come out soon...

Order In "All In" as stated to sales rep when I made final decision to purchase.

    Matte 95% NTSC Color Gamut
    i7-3740QM 2.7GHz - 3.7GHz
    GeForce GTX 680M
    16GB - DDR3 1600MHz

Got sick of endless hours of research. Replacing my custom gaming desktop, which I'll be selling to a friend for a sound. Sick of being strapped to a chair at a desk facing a wall. Finally felt like the right time to invest in a gaming laptop considering performance.

Returned a G75 after using it for less than 4hrs. Wanted to like it. Sound Driver w/ S woofer issues and sub par viewing angles on the LCD. Just couldn't see myself happy with it long. So...

Go hard or go home right?

I was contemplating the Asus G75 but because Sager offered more for my buck, I went with Sager.

My NP9150 arrived last week and so far impressions are mixed:

    Specs:
    - Stock Display Matte
    - i7-3630QM
    - nVidia GeForce GTX 675M
    - Ram: 8GB - DDR3 1600MHz
    - Primary Hard Drive: 256gb Crucial M4
    - Secondary Hard Drive: 750gb WD Scorpio Black

    The good:
    - it survived 7000km of shipping :)
    - stock matte screen is fantastic
    - keyboard backlight ditto
    - very good build quality, other than glossy screen bezel (dust/fingerprint magnet) absolutely no complaints
    - daymn it's fast!

    The not-so-good:
    - keyboard layout takes some getting used to, especially off-center spacebar and win key on the right side
    - usb ports appear tight (???), cables need real pull to disconnect
    - semi-non-intuitive hotkeys
    - basic BIOS - my 5 year old dell inspiron has much more options
    - power adapter - HUGE! ok, i knew it will be big but again i was surprised....

    The ugly:
    - nvidia card won't work with any flavor of windows, for details see http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/696652-sager-np9150-huge-geforce-675m-driver-issue.html

The irony: I went with nvidia because it seemed that ati has a lot of problems with drivers... now it looks to me that there's no clear choice if you want simplicity/reliability, it's a lottery either way

Overall, i'm not too unhappy with this thing, but unless i resolve the nvidia issue most likely i'll dump it to some poor sucker and get something with no discrete graphics but weighing 3x less

Funny you should mention the keyboard and the Win8 key placement - just a couple of pages ago we saw pictures with a 'new' (?) layout and the key on the left.

Now I'm not sure who gets that and who doesn't - I just asked the reseller in my country and they too still have it on the right. Mmm. Anyone can shed any lights?

Is the audio really a letdown on the p151em/p150? I heard about horror stories on the speaker not sounding great then the solution is using earphones/headphones but then owners are complaining the soundcard sucks even when using quality headphones/external speakers and they only solution is using some kind of amp.

Can anyone shed some light into this horror issue.

12.11 ver7, it's funny as far I know with this driver it was supposed to improve performance with DX11 games but not so much with DX9 and 10 games but my results seem to be showing the opposite. If I have time tonight I'll install Max Payne and Lost Cause 2 and see how well they perform

I've only had my laptop about a week so I haven't fully tested them yet but I will say they are quite tinny sounding for the spec of the laptop, they don't really pack alot of bass and my old Msi 660r which was half the price was more punchy having said that I currently don't have THX trustudio installed as everytime I opened it it said the audio device was disabled or not present (anyone know how to get around this I have the latest audio drivers?) To be honest though hardware wise that's the only real negative with this laptop, if you're that bothered by the audio you should perhaps consider something like the Logitech Lapdesk N700 which combines a cooler with external speakers

That's not ghosting, the keyboard is just bad. These keyboards seem to do that a lot, mine does too. I wonder if the win8 ones are any better...

The sound card is very bad, and furthermore when the dGPU is on it creates interference. Headphones do nothing to resolve this. An external amp will not help as it just makes things louder. You need to get some kind of DAC or external soundcard that uses either usb or spdif optical, so that it can get the raw digital signal and bypass the onboard card.

Speaking of that, I was just getting ready to get an Asus Xonar U3 for this, when I noticed Newegg does not seem to carry them anymore. Shame.

Anyway, I tried playing some stuff on Dolphin the other day (I own all the game discs myself, not doing anything illegal), and wow, what a difference 1080p with 16xAA makes over whatever abomination the Wii/GCN outputs natively. Only problem is, the 675m can easily give over 60FPS with all settings maxed, but the games completely fail if they go above 30FPS. Dolphin lets me limit it to 30, but then it occasionally (often, actually, but only in certain areas) dips down to 20, which never happens when I try to play without the frame limit. Is there anything I can do to avoid this?

Now that Win8's out, does anyone know if 7 pro/ult will become cheaper? I'd love to be able to have 32GB ram sometime, which home premium won't allow.

If I use Audio Technica headphones, I get no bass, but if I use the same headphones connected to my stereo amplifier and connect my NP9150 to that (flat eq setting), it sounds great. However, there is low-level noise that seems to only occur when the AC adapter is connected.

Well after several months of owning this laptop (malibal lotus p150em se)...I still like it.

I got some nice klipsch promedia 2.1's for it...and they sound awesome. Not sure why everyone rags on the sound card, sounds great to me with good speakers.

The only mod i've done to it, is that I've rounded the front edge of the front where the wrists sit. That edge was super sharp. I took my leatherman wave to it. Roughed it up, the smoothed it out. Feels muuuch better now.
I'm tempted to try the foil tape mod...This thing does get a bit hot, and that may help.

It's where you use the metal A/C tape to tape the gap between the fan and the heatsink. Apparently it keeps the air flowing properly. Some users have reported several degree temp drops.

i think it's more of an issue with the p170em/np9170s. i haven't opened mine up to check if there's any misalignment though.
