So I just read through about 90 pages and my head hurts. I've searched google and many other websites but I'm just going to ask here because I'm tired of trying to do the leg work myself. In about a week l be buying. NP9150.... However I'm having the tough choice many others had/have.

    680m or 7970m

Truth be told I don't care about physx so that arguement is out the window as far as the 680m is concerned. I mainly want the 7970m due to the price/power ratio... However I have some questions in that regard. Have the enduro/underutilization issues been ironed out for the most part? (Along with farcry3 dx11 issues and such)

If the 7970m is not the way to go, be honest. I need this for both school and my perso am gaming rig. If the 680m is the better choice then tell me but I'd love to save the cash if I can.

On nvidias front... How are the Optimus issues?

Over all in racking my brain trying to make a decision. I can afford both configurations but like most starving students I want to save $$ if I have to. But I'd gladly buy the 680m and survive on ramen for a month if its going to be worth it.

What it boils down to is which card will give me less problems. And what I can do if I get the problems

well, if you want less problems shell out the extra $ for nVidia. there is nothing else to say other than the extra cost is towards better support and solid drivers and the 7970m is usually a hit and miss with owners, but most say that driver stability is slowly getting stronger. also know that the 7970m is on-par and sometimes surpasses the 680m in terms of benchmarks for about $200 less if you so care.

in the end, its up to you to consider these factors and decide for yourself. search up any other answer to your question and you'll most likely get one of the answers above. personally, i chose the 7970m and am having superb results in every game i play

If that doesn't work, I wonder if priming the 680M would work? Like try just running some sensor app like MSI Kombuster that can read the temps and GPU utilization, that's what I use to prime if I need it. I don't run the benchmark, but I create a profile for the Kombuster to open with my dGPU. Might be similar to 680M.

It also could be something interfering. Like for example, I can't get Shogun 2 to run off the 7970M if Afterburner is running with it's annoying sensor app. If I turn that off, it works. Pretty much anything that creates an overlay can interfere, even the overlay from Mumble/Teamspeak.

    Priming the 680m?

Any 7970m users have to open a game twice to have it register and use the 7970m?

my 7970 didn't have any issues out of the box. Not all of them have. ATI've also updated the drivers so should you have an issue you can change the drivers.

    my question:

anyone found or made an external battery charger for the battery P150hmbat-8 battery?
    Anyone got larger batteries?

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but are there any other utilities for controlling the LEDs other than the one that comes with it? Or any APIs so I can make my own? I know that there is a 7 color limitation, and i am fine with that. I just want to be able to add animations to it.

    Derek and everyone else....
Just want to update you all on how I'm doing with this thing....
Whatever happened with the first install was a terrible terrible thing. The 2nd install is working beautifully. I might go for a 3rd install, jsut to practice.

As for gaming --- this thing is an ABSOLUTE beast.... Its taking the settings i run on my desktop (a SLi Config of 2x 470 gtx's) and allowing me to GO HIGHER in quality. Friggn amazing video card in this machine. I wound up ordering a 670GTX for my desktop now ... hahahahah

    The 675MX is amazing....
    Laptop is so solidly built...

Personally --- if you've got an option... I'd stick with the 675mx. Its plenty fast enough, and you can allocate the fundage to an SSD (I recommend the Crucial M4 mSATA)
now, if you really want to go with a 680, thtas fine too... I've got NO issues with the optimus on win8 pro with my 675mx, now... Only thing I would recommend -- let Windows install drivers from Windows Update, and then install the latest Nvidia Drivers, and all the rest of the other drivers EXCEPT the Intel video ones -- leave those as the ones Windows Update installed.

As for the 7970m --- I was considering that when i ordered mine, but decided to just go with the 675mx. Like I said, the 675MX is plenty fast. I wound up allocating the $$$ I saved to more ram and an mSATA ssd...

But I'd like to save 200 if I can. If most of the 7970m's issues have been ironed out ill go that route. I may just buy it with the 7870m and if it doesn't workout send jr back within 30 or 60 days and have them out the 680m in instead... If that's possibru.

well, from what i've been reading, the driver install seems wonky.... the "ATI Optimus" still needs a TAD bit of work....
Like I said before -- I was looking at the 7970m... Decided on the 675mx, because of budgetary reasons... now.. believe me, i would have sprung for the 680m if i could, but i am not regretting my choice of 675mx...
I do see your thoughts on 7970m or 680m only.. i thoroughly understand that. :)

And like you said... you could always get the 7970m, and then in the 30-60 days, send it back and have them toss in the 680m....

I am using Windows 8. While I don't like the new Start screen, I find the performance generally snappier than Windows 7, and alot more stable with games.

guys, how is the performance on AC3 with 7970m catalyst 13.1? on mine its like 30fps or less with vsync on and the GPU utilization doesnt reach 90% and the fps keeps low.

another issue is that for some reason i cant open the catalyst control center, click to open and nothings happens, already reinstalled amd keeps the same.

Turn off Vsync... That ish eats frames like no other and make sure it's using the 7970m.

You can try the 13.2 beta drivers if you're up to it.

Don't know if ac3 has a physx option... If so turn it down or off.

i like the vsync on, with it off I may have higher fps but the quality, at least for me, it's better with vsync

I've been using Win 8 for about 3 months now and have not come across a single thing about it that I'd consider unstable or buggy except for being unable to use the display adapter I had been using previously. Otherwise zero problems. You may come across some specialty programs from companies that aren't widely used and therefore haven't developed Win 8 drivers just yet but they're few and far between. If you had specific programs that you want to make sure run, just research online whether they're compatible or not at this time. As long as what you use the computer for is compatible, like heavenly_wild said, I find Win 8 very reliable and responsive. I'm no fan of the live tiles but I generally am forced to use them a few times a day at the most.

If you're going to use vsync you really can't complain about low fps =/

Unless you can maintain. 60fps to even with the refresh rate, it's going to chop down to 30.

Either turn off vsync or deal with low fps.

Personally I hardly see screen tares w/o vsync

to me there is a big difference between 60fps with vsync on and 60fps with vsync off, with bf3, ac revelations and other heavy games I can keep 55+fps all the time, and without vsync even 70 fps feels slugish

Again, if you're going to use vsync, not all games will run equally. It's either vsync and low fps or no vsync and high fps (in some cases)

vsync without tripple buffering can create a mouse lag which is really quite annoying.

AC3 is not the best even on Nvidia even, there are some LAG/utilisation issues caused by the bad porting.

ppl say that its a CPU under-utilization thing.

I'll wait till they fix it.

And meaker, I'm having trouble with the 13.1 catalyst, I cant open it, double click it, open from start menu and nothing happens, tried to reinstall but it stays the same. I know the 7970m is working because if I use the Control center and set it to performance i can with MSI afterburner that the 7970m is on use.

Have you tried installing just the CCC from another version?

Or not updating it with everything else when you move to the latest version?

You'd be able to download the one directly from Sager or you can also download it directly from Nvidia for the latest release.

Hopefully Roland can pull through and match prostars 1day build and ship for 39. Otherwise I may have to order from them when I have to order about 14 laptops for the business in a few weeks

I also bought my son an MSI gx60 that I use from time to time that also has a 7970m

People know things w/o having the exact same machine, no need to be rude, bro.... also, if he's been researching the issue for purchasing purposes, he might jsut be saving you time from having to make your own summarization of the facts. Also to be quite honest, things carry over from the desktop realm, as well as various laptops with similar parts. In regards to the 7970m issue --- its not jsut SAGER laptops having issues with it.... its with any Enduro equipped laptop that has the 7970m (MSI for one).

    Your best bet.....
Download the latest drivers, and make a Franken-install with the last known working Catalyst Control Panel. I'm considering building one jsut so you can stop being rude....

Hello, I have some questions about the factory drivers for the 7970M and the NP9150.

Currently, I'm using version 8.951.6.0 from Sager's website with CCC 13.2 beta 6 installed over it. However, I noticed that the drivers on Clevo's site for the 7970M were updated in Jauary (v 9.1.0.0).

Would it be beneficial for me to install those drivers then re-install the CCC drivers over those, to help with the occasional inconsistency in the switchable graphics? Or am I completely wrong about the core concept of drivers/switchable graphics? Lol.

    Thanks!

No sure but i think those are the Sager version of the 13.1 official drivers. You can install them from Sager or get the AMD ones.

Man I wish I could combine xotic's customer service and pricing with prostars 1day build option and option to use the 3610qm (saving $50), and CUK's option to buy the np9150 without a hard drive (saving $60)

Can't wait for the lappy though

We can also request to remove the HDD at Sager btw, same pricing.

We're still waiting to hear from you though regarding our latest email about the processing of your order. If you could give us a call it'd be greatly appreciated.
