For all those thinking about getting one of these laptops but are concerned about sound quality:

The Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate has a headphone and mic jack built into it. You get a little bit of feedback but if you're listening to music you don't notice it at all, and the music sounds much more full than when you're using the sound card. This isn't not a good solution if your job depends on the sound quality, but if that's the case you should probably be expecting to buy a USB audio device regardless of what laptop you buy. For me, this is a decent substitute, at least enough of one to keep me from buying the U3 or whatnot.

Anyway, I figured I would post this since most gamers use an external keyboard for gaming anyway and this one is pretty damn good regardless of the headphone jack.

for that price, you are much better off getting a mechanical keyboard.
    way better typing experience

I guess that part comes down to personal preference. Personally, I haven't really typed on a mechanical keyboard that impressed me enough to make me always want one so really I tend to just look for features and reputation. I liked the back-lighting options of of thermaltake, the replacement USB ports, the cooling fan, and the 10 extra buttons. I didn't really think about format honestly.

Mechanical keyboard huh? I own and use the best mechanical keyboard ever made. I use an IBM model M13 buckling spring mechanical keyboard manufactured feb 14 1994. It's nothing short of typing nirvana. Plus the build quality is superb

Well my buddy had to go through prostar after I passed the news on to him that I received. I was informed by Roland that sager called xoticpc and said "yo yo yo homie, ya'lls outta 7970m's. Yo eta fo mo iZ on the 8th"

Soon that stinks that he didn't go though xoticpc. However he did say prostar gave him excellent customer service and is happy with their performance.

Now I'm not preaching for either company here. Because this benefits us all. Good successful business was drives competition which in turn means lower prices on things.

From talking to Derek and Roland and Melissa I have personally recieved top of the line service. I felt like I was calling a friend instead of calling a company. If I could I would buy them a round at the local bar.

Same goes for when I've spoken to Jeff and Chris at prostar- they gave deep caring customer service.

So I would recommend either company any day.

Thanks for the kind words Ghost! Always a pleasure talking with you. Unfortunately with the Chinese New Year inventory issues, Sager seems to be drying up what they have on hand. Constantly working to get you a machine as fast as possible though and as soon as that next shipment comes in you know you'll be out quick. Thanks again.

Np Derek. You guys have treated me excellent. I did tell both Roland and Melissa to hold off pushing it through until they're back in stock. I'm hoping I don't have to purchase it elsewhere (I will if my boss tells me we're having a conference out of state) but even if I were to, my next purchase both personally and for the business will come from xotic.

Good to hear! Once the stock replenishes it shouldn't be an issue and should be pretty soon when that happens. Hopefully nothing comes up unexpectedly that puts you into a bind.

    Hi everyone,

I'm new and joining the Sager club. I'm doing it mainly for photo/video editing. Not for games although I might be open to trying some since I'm getting a decent machine. I love the minimal look of the Sager and I chose it over the workstations from HP, Dell, and Lenovo.

Here's my rig. I opted for the 7970 since it looks like Adobe is going to support OpenCL in their next iteration of Premiere. (CS6.5). The 7970 is also faster in all the other CS6 programs.

Anyway, please let me know what you think! I ordered from Reflex notebook since I live in Canada. So far their service has been straight and all business.

Just bought a np9150 special edition from XoticPC... my girlfriend bought my first np9150 from me because she wanted to start gaming too. Hutsady knocked it out of the park as usual. Gonna be cool playing borderlands together

Quick question for anyone who owns a NP9150/P150EM already. Does anyone have the measurements of the back of the LCD? I want to put in my order for a gelaskin before the laptop shows up. Thanks!

After doing some reading on here, I went with the 680M. After spending this amount of money on a laptop, the extra was a fairly small % to make sure I don't have issues.

I'm trying to scramble an extra $200 together so I can switch toa 680m before it ships.

What sucks is I have a $170 newegg gift card code I'm trying to sell for $100 that would instantly help. Too bad my friends are broke. Hahaha

Laptop comes tomorrow. The feeling of knowing it arrives tomorrow kind of washes away the worry of the 7970m.

I mean the worry is still there but at least having it and being able to test and use it is better than speculating/theory crafting and just worrying yourself over what might be nothing.

I've heard pros and cons of each. It really depends on which games your playing as they seem to perform differently per game, sometimes worse sometimes better. I'd do 13.1 play you game, monitor FPS performance then go 13.2 and see which treats you better.

So due to some issues, I've returned my NP8150 and ordered an NP9150.

What should I expect about the keyboard? I really enjoyed the np8150 while I had it, but the NP9150 is non-chiclet style. Also, are there any issues with the np9150 keyboard?

I read that early np9150's had problems with key ghosting and a limit of ~3 keys pressed at a time, but newer np9150's did not.

What about replacing the non-chiclet keyboard with a chiclet type that also has the multi-backlight?

    Thanks

You'll have to get used to the different feel of the island style but its not too different.
There are alot less missing keystokes and ghosting issues reported with the revised keyboards. If you do happen to run into them contact your reseller and they should swap it out for you hassle free.
The Steelseries keyboards will work. They're slightly bigger so they need to get trimmed a little for a proper fit and the Fn keys are mapped differently. The hardest part is finding one sold individually.

Okay so here's what worked for me to fix the catalyst control center mom.exe error

I uninstalled all amd drivers. Went to Microsofts website and downloaded the .netframe 4.0 and forced the install of the missing stuff. Redownloaded and installed 13.2 beta 7. All good now.

I only had time to download and install hawken. Played two matches before time to go to work. GPU utilization never went above 83% and never went below 75%.

    Da fuq?

you can't expect the utilization to be 100% really, maybe try 12.11 drivers tho im using those and getting fantastic performance.

I got my p150em last week GW2 is the only game ive played + benchmarks... getting an average of around 50fps all settings maxed with render sampling on native (supersampling isnt necessary for a 15.6" 1080p screen and is a huge performance hit) This is slightly better performance than my desktop with a 680 OCd on stock voltage, 3770k @ 4.3GHz and faster memory (2133 vs 1600).. my desktop required supersampling (no FXAA) too for crisp visuals, screen is much larger at 24.6". 7970m is a great card :O 6500 in 3dmark 11 stock. ^^
