It was the 8XXM video cards instead of the 7XXM, and the new CPUs. They are still Haswell but the i7-XX10MQ models which got a 100Mhz bump in speed.

There are minor adjustments and tweaks, of course major changes will wait for the new GPUs and CPUs expected some time next year.

So I've poured over the pages in this thread, but can't seem to find a definitive answer on this... Any help appreciated:

Can you disable the LED "tramp stamp" on the NP8255 while still running the keyboard backlight, or are the two tied i.e. one must be on for the other to light up?

I expect to receive mine today.

You can disconnect the power at least to just the touchpad LED, I believe the software has individual control too.

You will want the latest bios/ec/software to ensure it can.

I'm finally an official owner of the NP8265-S! It's a great powerhorse machine.. but I'm trying to find alternatives for the chunky power adapter.

I'll be doing some testing to see if my W230ST's 120watts adapter will cope with the 8970m, but I don't expect much from a 60watts lesser source.

I'd put it on concrete away from flammable material, and maybe put something over it so when it invariably explodes from trying to pull more amperage than it can provide, nothing gets damaged :)

Seriously though, it will likely melt and start a fire if it doesn't have incredible protection on it. It can also likely damage the components in your laptop if the adapter surges prior to it's imminent death.

Rule of thumb. Match the voltages. Too much amperage is fine, too little amperage is a fire hazard.

    Hello,

I have P157SM (Eurocom X3) in the following configuration:
    - GTX765M
    - i7-4700MQ
    - Prema mod BIOS 1.03.04PM v2
    - modified EC (Prema) 1.03.01PM
    - Win8.1 x64
    - HotKey 8.0134

Everything is fine, except noise. I've used Prema's modified EC in order to have the following CPU fan settings:
    temperature 40~55°C => fan off
    temperature 55°C+ => fan ~2050 rpm (measured by HWiNFO64)
fan speed is increasing every +5°C

This is more or less OK and it seems that the fan can't run on lower speed than the ~2k rpm. The fan management is still a bit agressive and it tried to keep the lowest possible temperature, but "ok".

I was playing WoT on an external keyboard. Using WSAD, Ctrl, Alt, Tab, Shift (not all at once, ofc) and suddenly something similar to the Hotkey overlay appeared in the upper left screen corner - fan icon and text NORM.
After battle, I've entered the Hotkey application and found a new button (I've never seen it before) with fan icon and text "silent". Unfortunately I haven't taken any screenshot - I've just created an image, where it was located:
    http://img.jejkey.net/212.png

Functionality of that button was quite simple. It has changed the fan profile from something like "prefer lower temperature" to "prefer lower noise", so I was able to run with temperatures about 60-65°C with only 2k RPM, which is way better for me.

Unfortunately, the option has disappear again after rebooting the laptop...

    My questions are:
    - what I have done / has anyone else seen something like that? According to the manual, all actions in the Hotkey application should be done using the Fn+something shortcuts, so it shouldn't have been initiated by the external keyboard anyway. So far, I was unable to reproduce it. :(
    - is there any lust of all the shortcuts for the Hotkey application, or at least a detailed manual for the application?
    - is there any other way to change the cooling scheme?

    Thanks for your reactions.

Thanks for the warning. I totally understand guys. What I've been trying to do is underclock GPU and CPU to the point where I'm limiting power draw to something near 120 watts on full power, but I'm still way too far. I'd go for undervolting but I don't think it'd help much. Using XTU and afterburner with no luck so far.

I'm also considering the m3800's (130 watts) PSU because I really hate this brick :[

Yous would be better off modding a slim dell 240w brick than trying to down clock the system that far.

I thought so, but after getting the dell 'slim' adapter I realized it's too freaking wide to fit any bag normally.

To get a better sense of it, here's a picture of all 3 PSUs:

If your bag is big enough to hold a notebook it should be wide enough for the PSU ^-^

True, yet again I don't carry a bulky bag so it's barely enough for a small adapter if I want to carry other essential stuff with me. Anyway let's not derail this thread :)

I'm waiting for an mSATA M500. I'm not sure whether having it underneath the primary HDD is a good idea because I've read it gets relatively hot. I don't know where's the second msata slot but I assume it's under the keyboard.. a few more days til it arrives and then I'll start digging.

So I have a question. It seem's like my screen is getting darker, not all of the time but sometimes it seem's to be quite a bit darker than normal. Also when I switch from a page that is pretty dark to a page that is really white I can see it getting brighter for a few seconds before it settles. So is it just that it is not backlighting the dark page and then bringing the backlights back up when I switch back? That would make sense to me but it seem's to be pretty new and it is not helping the fact that sometimes the screen just doesn't seem as bright as it should.

just did a quick test and going from my desktop (which is not very bright) to the white google home page, the background goes from a dull grey/white to pretty bright white in just a few seconds. I am sure this didn't happen until recently

Derek - Can you help me with what appears to be the signature area in these threads where your XOTIC banner is and where some folks have their puter stats listed. Where do you build/install this box and it's contents and how do you get it to show up in every post.
    Thanks in advance

Furmark is designed to be a stress test program. For example if you overclocked it and wanted to check the stability or reapplied TIM and wanted to check your thermal performance.
As meaker suggested try a 3DMark program then compare those results with others that have the same hardware.

From the dimensions of the bag I say it won't fit, at least not the way it's meant to. The backpack looks cool though.

I just noticed that the keyboard's backlight stays on when the lid is closed, is this how it's supposed to be?

Well the pack site says: "Laptop Compartment Dimensions 12"(w) x 15"(h) x 2.5"(d)".
    While the laptop is said to have these dimensions: "14.80” (w) x 10.08” (d) x 1.38~1.69” (h)".

So it looks like it should fit, but wanted to verify with someone that has the bag and laptop...

    Thanks!

There's a difference in width so if the bag's compartment is not secure your laptop will end up having scratches/scuffs all over.

@Meaker I was thinking there is a way to do it automatically. I guess this makes a good hotkey project.. but I'm too lazy to initiate it right now :'D

This weird thing has happened again - Fan icon + NORM shown in the overlay and the button has appeared in CC again.
I've managed to take screenshots of that in the Hotkey application (changed to 8.0.150 in the meantime):
    http://img.jejkey.net/223.png
    http://img.jejkey.net/224.png

That "Silent" button is not visible by default for me. I've initiated its existence by pressing some sequence or combination of the keys:
    Q W E D

Is there anyone else who can see this button in his "Control Center" normally?

In addition to the stuff above, I've found that the change of the "Silent" button appears in the respective registry key:
    HKCU\Software\hotkey\ControlCenter => key "Silent" (values: 0 / 1)

Apparently, this settings is being ignored normally.

Damn .... yea, that's something I've expected. Do you have the stock BIOS/EC or modified ones (Prema)?
Anyway, it seems that it's possible to enforce it .... somehow. And I don't really understand why it's not visible by default, as it's quite useful and works well ... it's possible to keep the fan speed fixed on 2000 RPM and have higher temperatures instead - so it's possible to play without headphones :)
I'll upload few graphs from HWiNFO32 showing the differences in temps and fan speed later on.

It has only one bug ... if the GPU is no longer in use, the GPU fan does not turn off, but still works on the ~ 2k RPM (but that's nothing major, the GPU fan on 2k RPM is incredibly silent ... in comparison against the CPU fan on the very same speed).

Some HWiNFO graphs regarding this randomly appearing functionality...

    http://img.jejkey.net/hwinfo_silent_game.PNG
in-game replay with the silent profile. fan speed is fixed on the lowest possible speed, max. temperatures are below 70°C anyway.

    http://img.jejkey.net/hwinfo_norm_load.PNG
the same in-game replay with "normal" profile. fan management is trying to keep the temperature at ~ 60°C, the fan speed is changing quite often, which is quite disturbing.

    http://img.jejkey.net/hwinfo_switch.PNG
the fun begins - profile changed to "normal", applications using GPU are closed. GPU fan is turned off. starting CPU load (audio conversion). CPU running at 3 GHz after some time. Temperatures are about 80°C, fan speed ~ 2850).
profile switched to "silent", GPU fan starts working (nah), CPU fan speed set to ~2050 (oh, I can put headphones off) , while the temperatures have increased by ~5°C only.

I'd like to have this feature available all the time and not only after pressing some random keys combination. However, I haven't found any "Hotkey manual" nor any contact (Clevo directly?) where I could get more info about all the features of that application. Or if it's some easter-egg related to Prema's BIOS / EC mods ... who knows. :)

Anyone knows why my keyboard only has red, blue, and pink (or purple)? I think it worked before I installed windows 8.1, but i tried a reinstall to windows 8 it still doesn't work. Since I know it worked, i don't think it's a hardware problem.
    Cheers.

    RAID 1 setup Question.

I am thinking to RAID 1 my primary SSD drive and my mSata 1 drive when I take delivery of my P157SM-A very soon.

Both drives will be blank on install and I will be installing win 7 once hardware raid is setup in the BIOS.

Has anyone else done this and if so was there anything to watch out for in setting up this configuration?

The reason why I am doing this is that they are both very close to identical size and specced SSD's
and I had a very unfortunate experience with my primary SSD last December where it literally just
stopped working and my last backup was a month before.

In a RAID 1 setup at least I can then boot and operate as normal until I replace the other drive in the array.

    Cheers
    C

My advice is forget raid 1 and get a proper daily backup to a cloud service or external drive. That way anything could happen to the machine but you still keep your data.
