I forgot to say Raid 1 will work just fine, I just don't see the big benefit of it unless uptime is so critical that imaging your backup to a drive will take too long.

Are you able to change the backlight color when I turn on my computer?

I don't think anybody has discovered the trick to this just yet. There was a third party option that people were using for a bit but I don't recall if they unlocked that feature.

Does anyone use laptop cooling pads with these models?

If so is there any that people recommend.

    Thanks

I have noticed some odd screen brightness on my P150SM over the last couple of months. Its almost like the screen is taking a while to warm up. It will be "washed out" looking sometimes, the colors not vivid, and then after a few minutes it will revert to normal.

Last night I noticed it was very dark, after checking that the brightness setting was on full, I let Win 8.1 install the intel driver that had been sitting in the optional drivers to install category.

Immediately the screen became bright white like it used to. I am going to pay attention to it closely as the warranty is nearly up.

Raise the back feet a bit. Anything that does this will work from stands to bottle caps.

Took delivery of my P157SM-A today... it is a neat machine however I have one small issue I can't seem to solve.

I have installed w7 Pro and when installing the drivers I followed the driver installation program installing each item 1 at a time and rebooting as you are supposed to.

When it came to installing audio i see there are two audio drivers and one is for the Sound Blaster X-Fi 3 which I do have configured as part of my hardware.

I installed the regular driver and sound was working... I installed the SB XFI drivers and I had conflicts. I uninstalled both and then re-installed XFI only and it worked although now when I boot my machine the XFI reports " There is no supported audio device available". Which is strange as I just click the OK button and the XFI configuration screen appears and nothing is configurable on it but sound works fine.

Looking in Computer Management under Device Manager I see under Sound, video and game controllers two items that are installed:
    + High Definition Audio Device
+ NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)

So now I am not sure what to do to make the SB XFI work properly.

Does anyone else have any hints at all on this?

    Thanks
    C

I ran into that problem also and the only solution was to install both clevo audio drivers and the xfi, in that order.

I searched for this but I couldn't an answer anywhere.. is either of the mSATA ports on the P150SM Sata III? I recently received the M500 240gb and I want to install it and do a fresh install but I'd rather have it on full bandwidth.

Also, any advice on setting up ssd? Technically this is the first time I install an SSD myself so I'm unsure whether I should proceed like it's a normal HDD or is there any preferable procedure for installation.

Both are SATA III. You install it just like a HDD, it will just do it much faster :).

Make sure you install it as the sole drive so it gets a boot partition.

Holy schnitzels! I might even get another one if this is the case.. Although it strikes me that m500 runs hotter than other SSDs so I might consider some other option.

Off to install the SSD now! Edit: Yeah I'm gonna remove the HDD and install it below it, I'll put the HDD back when I'm done.

Yes haswell increased the number of SATA iii ports so the hdd bays and msata could all be made SATA iii.

So I'm done with the installation. I gotta say, this SSD is FAST. I'm very happy with it right now.

I'm having one tiny bit of an issue though, whenever I try to install Rapid Start I get an incompatibility message (your computer does not meet the minimum requirements). Would the BIOS have anything to do with it?

If I recall Rapid Start requires a caching drive to be setup. You won't need to use Rapid Start if booting off an SSD.

That explains it. I think I could install it before because I had 2 HDDs connected together.

All is good now, just gotta test it properly. :)

AS5 is an older paste with a very long cure time. You can't monitor temps accurately for a few days.

Have you tried changing the setting in Intel Graphics setting?
In your System Icons on the right of the task bar right click on Intel HD Graphics > Graphics Properties > Advanced Mode > Media > Image Enhancement > Uncheck Adaptive Contrast Enhancement.

It can be quite awkward to use and a good paste like IC diamond will do very well.

    Ok, dumb question:

How do I disable the touchpad right edge-swipe that brings in the Charms menu in Windows 8? I keep accidentally triggering it and the solutions I've found on Google don't seem to apply to these drivers.

You could also rip it out and go for a start menu mod if you want to be rid of it entirely.

Dude! I've just registered here only to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I've bought this beautiful laptop (Monster Huma H3, a derivative of a CLEVO I guess), perfect, except for this stupid bug that links sound card and hot keys manager (why are they even related in the first place?). I had already found the workaround using initHeadphones (I found this post searching "CLEVO initHeadphones" indeed) but having a stable solution is 10x better! Thanks again.

Here is my question on Superuser: Audio from headphones is muted after screen is locked or sleep mode (Windows 8.1) - Super User (If I'm not supposed to post links I apologize but I'm too tired to read the rules etc. right now). You should definitely post your solution as an answer, I'll make sure to upvote and select it.

Could you please share how you found out about hp.dll and the signal of "log off"? Just out of curiosity. :)

    Thank you, again!

Hi, I've been reading through this thread, but just have one question. How is the heat build-up when using the p157sm-a on your lap? Does it feel like its cooking your legs like my alienware m14x r2? Thanks!

Depends if you can sit with the vents uncovered. If you can since they are two distinct points and little is drawn from other parts then you should be ok. For gaming I would advise against doing that with any notebook.

Any recent Clevo (except the W740SU?) can be used as a laptop. But to avoid covering the vent is tricky.

I have used P150EM and W230ST on my legs with high workload. With a bit practice it can be done.

Its really funny because I have tried playing games on my lap, and my temps are actually better. If I place it in between my legs instead of on them, the fans have more room to draw air from under the laptop. On a desk, there is actually limited room. (This can be solved by raising the back of the laptop though).

Yes but the heat is not good for your body and certain particular areas may be warmed ;) The vents can cause slow burns if you are not careful.

Well I almost fried my beans using the laptop on my lap, so yeah it can be bad. It's just that I'm always used to supporting the bottom of a laptop on my knees, rather than holding the whole thing with my thighs.

Well I find that the heat source is usually focused around the center, and right under the fan grilles (where the heat sinks are), and the sides are usually cold enough for me to balance the computer, when I don't have a table nearby.

Try resetting the EC by removing the main battery and AC for a couple of minutes. It could be one colour of LED is having issues or the keyboard cable is not quite seated right.

Anyone else have issues with auto-dimming? Seemingly out of nowhere, laptop screen auto-dims when the contrast of the item on the screen changes (minimizing browser showing a white webpage to the darker background automatically increases brightness). I have already went through intel graphics, nvidia, and windows power options to turn off anything that even remotely sounds like it could cause this to no avail. Further strange thing, I have a second monitor connected, and this does not occur with the second monitor, only on the laptop screen.

Is the Displayport on the np8250/p157sm specification 1.1 or 1.2 ??
I read a lot of reviews + specifications from back when I bought it and they say it's 1.2.
Then I read specification in the clevo concise manual, and it says 1.1a for the ordinary Displayport and it is unspecified for the mini-displayport....

Update: I understand mini - displayport is part of the 1.2 specification, so I'm sorry for the stupid question.
So I guess there would be no reason to leave the other full - size Displayport spec 1.1 then ? You see, I have this biiig problem with missing information. I don't know, but I get kind of manic....

I presently run internal screen + 1440p ips screen @60hz + hdtv 1080p@60hz, mostly for desktop space. I play games on the 1440p. Works good. Bought Asus pb287q 4k. I need to be able to get 60hz for it. I don't care if I have to turn off the internal lcd or whatever. I need the extra screen real estate while I build a new computer... You say it runs through the igp - yes I understand that. But for most of my activities it doesn't seem to matter so far ? I mean for a lot of applications it is pass-through , so I still have gotten pretty good fps on my 1440p in heavy games + added benefit in my newly installed Photoshop cc 2014. I am not implying surround here, just extended desktop for my programming. The Asus is just intended for extra space and some apps/web/text. The offer was just too good on it, but I cannot live with dragging my cursor around on 30hz!(Need the extra bandwidth of DP 1.2).
Gaming will have to wait for my HAFXB monster build to finish.
