The IGP cannot output 4k 60hz unfortunately. The dedicated card plays no part in outputting the image once it is rendered.

Intels pages state the hd4600 can output 4k@60hz. What is the limiting factor ? Is there any info on this somewhere that I can read ? So the limit then is 2560x1600 because of optimus ? If there is no cross wiring from the hd4600 to the ports, what is the limiting factor ?
-
I know the hd4000 had that 1600p limit, but there are several mentions of hd4600 outputting 4k@60hz to be googled. And Intel's support pages clearly state 2 external outputs capable of this. I just want to understand why it would not be a possibility on the clevo if the wires are not tangled somewhere..

I don't see how this can be misread or miswritten ??
From reviews of Haswell mobile processors I do read that " Resolutions of up to 4096 x 2304 pixels at 24Hz are supported, but you’ll be able to do the slightly lesser 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz"
http://www.theregister.co.uk/Print/2013/06/03/feature_inside_haswell_intel_4g_core/

Someone here has got 3840x2160@60 working on a 4k samsung. I don't know if that's a single - tile monitor or not....
So according to Intel, Nvidia ++ the igp can do 3840x2160@60hz , the gtx780m can do 4096x2160@60hz, users have 3840x2160@60hz working.
But still it just doesn't work ?
If mini - displayport will have to be 1.2 as of its specification I have trouble seeing where the problem would be....
I will contact Intel communities about the capacity of the hd 4600 in the 4800mq. At least I can get hard evidence because so far I can not find 1 piece of specification saying that 3840x2160@60hz can't work.
UPDATE:
I just got the "Mobile 4th generation Intel Core Processor datasheet Volume 1" from Intel.
On page 31:
"The HDMI* interface supports HDMI with 3D, 4K, Deep Color, and x.v.Color. TheDisplayPort* interface supports the VESA DisplayPort* Standard Version 1,Revision 2.
Each digital port is capable of driving resolutions up to 3840x2160 at 60 Hzthrough DisplayPort* and 4096x2304 at 24 Hz/2560x1600 at 60 Hz using HDMI*"
On page 33:
"The processor is designed in accordance with the VESA DisplayPort* Standard Version1.2a. The processor supports VESA DisplayPort* PHY Compliance Test Specification1.2a and VESA DisplayPort* Link Layer Compliance Test Specification 1.2a."
So now I wonder, either Clevo is making a mess of the wiring, or given sufficient driver support, 4k@60hz should be possible through the igp. -
I'm still unsure why only a few people seem to encounter this issue - at the point I was trying to figure out I couldn't find any info via google on the issue so had to figure it out myself.
I have, since my post, installed the latest Clevo (there was an update) hotkeys software but the problem is still there.
To answer your question, an event is logged to the Event Log in Windows by the PowerBIOSServer service. If I can remember correctly, I think I checked the DLL references on the PowerBIOSServer executable and found it was referencing HP.DLL, as was initHeadphones.exe. Disabling it stops the hotkey software from doing whatever it is trying to achieve based on the settings in the hotkey control panel - under "Gaming | Headphone" there are a few options, Music, Gaming, Theater and Direct. It seems to be trying to use some kind of API to the SB XFi software to change those modes, but for some reason it's not having the desired effect. In my case (and perhaps yours) I installed everything from scratch and didn't have the laptop pre-loaded with Windows. The installation DVD doesn't appear to be able to configure the laptop as per a pre-loaded setup.
Anyway, using the workaround I figured out, it doesn't matter. Have had no other issues with this laptop and I'm loving it (well except for the retarded mapping of the Home/End keys to Fn!) -
Sent the machine back to sager for this problem, along with a non functioning msata slot (slot had never worked since the day it arrived). Sager replaced the motherboard to fix the msata slot and replaced a cable going to the LCD. The day the machine was returned to me, the screen began showing constellations of tiny random pixels. I sent the machine back to Sager the next day and they replaced the i7 processor.
Unfortunately the contrast issue still showed up after the new motherboard, cable, and processor was installed. I too have disabled everything I can find relating to the display "auto adjusting". I have reinstalled the OS several times, tried the old Clevo drivers, new Intel and NVidia drivers...
I have another RMA in my inbox (after a rather heated discussion with Allen at Sager support), but I am hesitant to send the intermittently troubled machine away for another week for Sager to just power up the machine and note that the display looks fine, box it back up, and then send it back to me. The display has not malfunctioned for 5 days now...
I spoke with Donald Stratton from PowerNotebooks, where I purchased the machine less than a year ago, about the display issue. He is convinced there is a video cable seating or pinching problem that is causing it. Next time the display contrast gets wonky, I will take screen shots and then reseat and inspect the video cabling to try to solve the problem.
I will post any findings here. -

So if the capacity of the Intel hd4600 inside the i7 4800mq indeed rules the output, 4k@60hz is indeed possible. Which is why I will be report back to the forum with my findings in a couple of days time, when I have the opportunity try for myself. -
Guys I need a little help. I ordered a Clevo P150SM-A and yesterday reseller told me they cannot deliver it before 15th due to lack of Intel 4810MQ CPU. I told them to cancel the order.
Today I found they have a promotion for old Clevo P150SM. So I did a price comparison for the 150SM & 150SM-A. Seems like if I buy the old model I can save around £150. I'm planning to upgrade the VGA next year. Due to 880M's current issues and very attractive price of the P150SM, do you think buying old model is the right choice for me?

Some would argue the 780M is a better choice.....
-
Is possible to OC 780M using vbios? I mean vbios flash and forget it?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes if you modify the clocks on the file, either manually or on the stock vbios only using svet's tool.
-
What kind of battery life does the 157 get? Gaming / non-gaming?
-
As for the installation process yes, I did the same. Ironically the preloaded operating system was Ubuntu which has the same exact problem regarding the headphones jack. Actually if you could take a look at this bug report it would be great (I'm trying to get a basic understanding of the problem to try to figure something out but it's more complex than I expected), regardless of whether or not you might contribute (in which case I would owe you at least a six-packs): https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75151 .

Just got my new sager, I would just like to ask how can I change the settings on the touchpad. All the software drivers were pre-installed once a got this machine. I can't access it in the folder in program files and in device manager. Do I need to go to somewhere else?
-
What do you want to change? Multi-touch gestures? Sensitivity?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Usually you right click the little touchpad icon in the bottom right.
-
@meaker
Where do I need to go? Program files or device manager? -
There should be a small red icon on the bottom. Click that. If not it should be in the devices tab of the mouse section in control panel?
-
I want to ask another thing. I saw on the MSI vs Sager vs Alienware thread the ghosting issue on clevos. Does this model have that?
Before I bought my rig, I did a lot of research and did not find that issue until now. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well do you have issues where pressing multiple keys in a game does not register all the keys pressed?
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They have used the same keyboard for some time across the non lower end pxxx (eg p150em and p150sm but not p151em) models for a while.
-
PushT, did you end up finding out whether you could drive your monitor at 3840x2160@60Hz SST? I have the same monitor, and my 2012 rMBP is only able to squeeze our 37hz at native 4k res on the miniDP output. Like you, I'm finding it bloody hard to get definitive information on just which laptops actually support 3840x2160@60Hz SST!
-
You have to consider the the Intel graphics processor generation. If its a Haswell, you should be able to output 3840x2160@60hz for the Intel hd 4200, 4400 , 4600, Intel Iris 5200 etc, etc...
That is if there is a direct connection from your integrated graphics card to the laptop displayport port. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The sli machines have it straight to the DGPU so no issues there either. Glad it's working.
-
I am supposed to have these monitors for my workstation build, but I must say I'm pretty impressed that it works!

It would be interesting to see if that starts putting stress on the system ram a little.

hey guys!
i've tried searching for my problem, but either i was <s>lazy</s> unlucky, or i'm the first one to face it. so, my eurocom x3 (which, as i understand, is basically clevo p157sm) gets strange glitches on the screen. i've uploaded a video taken on my phone cam, so, despite the quality and focus issues, you can see what i'm talking about.
i was wondering if that was the lcd cable, so i tried leaning the screen back and forth. glitches remain the same while fiddling with the lid, so i stroke this suggestion out. to make sure, i've connected external tv via hdmi - glitch pattern on the external screen effectively duplicated the one on the notebook screen. when in games, which use dedicated graphics, there are no glitches visible.
i'm thinking this might be the integrated graphics card, which got unsoldered (?) from the motherboard. not sure how though - the notebook was sitting at the same spot the whole time since it was shipped. and it started showing the symptom just recently.
i understand the main solution would be to send it for repairs under the guarantee. however, the shipping cost would be about 200 bucks, so i was wondering if there was another solution. like disabling the integrated graphics in favor of the dedicated card. it's not like i care about battery life of this beast anyway - got an asus t100ta for running around.
what do you guys think? feasible or not so much? -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will add to the bandwidth requirement too.
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It would just be a minor hit to performance, nothing big. You could see if it was by increasing ram speed and seeing if you get a performance boost where you normally would not.

Hey guys, am I abusing the battery of my sager NP8258 by always being plugged in? I think, I have read somewhere that the new batteries on laptops were safe from over charging since it will not charge after it has reached 100%.. When I open my computer to do some gaming and other light task like browsing my laptop was always plugged in since it is always on the desk. I am very concerned because I am not in the US and this laptop was not popular or well known in my country so finding a replacement battery would be hard.

No there is not.

It is safe, the battery is managed by the inbuilt EC not to over charge, it's just not user configurable.

Guys I brought a P150SM with NV780M Vga card. System works well, but VGA card temp hit 93C when I play BF3/AC Black Flag. I repasted nearly 10 times with different pastes and tried all the cooling mod recommendations (including washer mod) .
My heatsink looks like this,
http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...50sm-p157sm-p170sm-p177sm-20130922_103849.jpg
Do you think my heatsink is defective?
I already ordered new thermal pads for VGA RAM and thinking about replacing my heatsink. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's normal, that heatpipe is just for the VRM/mem anyway so would not impact core temperatures so much. It could be a faulty heatpipe on the core, what does the contact pattern of the paste look like?
-
Interesting. Is the BIOS on the video card stock? Any overclock? My heatsink has a huge void and can still manage under 90 degrees before with a stock vBIOS.
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You could try submersing one end of the heatsink into hot water and seeing if the pipes all conduct heat as well.

Hey guys, I need your help again. During some gaming sessions my machine just randomly shuts down. While playing, I constantly monitors the temperature of my laptop and I don't think its due to overheating. My GPU temps peaked ate 87 degrees Celsius while my CPU at 82 degrees. I also don't think that it is due to playing long hours because I happen to play Crysis 3 on ultra settings on 4 straight hours and it didn't happen. While playing a non-demanding game (Left 4 Dead 2), it just shuts down in the middle of the game and my temperatures were just doing 60-70 degrees both on GPU and CPU. Sometimes it also happens when I play watchdogs and crysis 3. So I just want to know what is the problem on my machine. Thanks in advance.
PS.
I always play plugged in. Never tried to play using the power from the battery. -
Anyone in here replace their screen with an IPS? I'm thinking of doing it. My P150 has a bright spot, not dead pixels almost like an air bubble as I am able to move it. If I decide to keep it instead of selling it anyone have any good IPS screens they recommend? I know it should work with most 40 PIN LCD's as long as they are comparable to the current TN..

I heard Clevo Use 0.5mm pads for the memory. I compare the original with Phobya XT 1mm and found they are same thickness. -

Finally new heatsink manage to solve the heat issue. Today I stressed both CPU & GPU simultaneously using Unigine heaven(1080p/DX11/Tessellation Extreme/4x AA) and Prime95. I run the tests around one hour and used HWiNFO to monitor the temp/clock speed.
GPU OC'ed to 953GPU/1350Mem(5500 Effective)/ No CPU OC
Room ambient temp 20C
Max CPU temp reached 87C before fans kicked in and then dropped to 79C-80C
Max GPU temp 82C (Full fan speed) after 50min
I stressed the GPU using Furmark for about 21min and temp reached 86C after 20min (Screenshot below). I'm not going to run this test again, this is just one off to test the highest temp.
If I lift the back of the laptop by 0.5inch, temps drop by further 3-4C.
